Cosplay at work to celebrate Comic Con
« on: May 31, 2015, 06:47:32 AM »
I've been going to the con since I was a teen and, um, I'm sooo not a teen any more. BUT.....I've never ever dressed up. Ever. (GASP!!!!)

A few days ago, an email was sent out stating we are going to dress up to celebrate SDCC!! Rad!! (oops, I think I just gave away my age). Never having dressed up before, and being over the age of....well, I'm older without the figure of superheroes. ......so I'm stumped. At first I was thinking of a cute pin up dress of Wonder Woman. Kass was telling me I should go as a character from one of his video games. Problem, I'm over 35 people. So I *think* I've narrowed it down to two different things.....pop art (you know, the polka dots on the skin) or Sin City makeup (B&W with a touch of red or maybe the gray scale with green contacts). Or do any of you have any other great suggestions??

Wow, I love the dots! That's such a great idea! And while younger people may have no clue, the older people will get it.

I too am at the age where I ponder if I should be cosplaying younger characters... But then I realized that I don't care. The anime characters I cosplay were designed in the 70s, so they're older than I am. They have to age, right? I have a Daenerys costume, but it goes with my husband's Jorah. He's a bit too young for Jorah, I'm a bit too old for Dany... But it works for us.  ;D

I tried out a Carol costume (from TWD) at ECCC and it went really well. Turns out I'm too young for Carol, but it was still fun! So my point is, don't let your age stop you from cosplaying a character you love.

If you don't want to do the dots (I know the makeup can be time-consuming in the morning) you could go with a Starfleet uniform. That's easy and works for people of any size or shape.

As for Star Fleet, I agree about the age/size thang. I have a running joke that I'm going to give my ex a red shirt. ;)

That looks great! That requires even more makeup skills (which I don't have) but if you can do it, that looks like an easy thing to 'wear'.

If you're not into Star Trek, Jedi costumes are also pretty adaptable for any size and age.

And all exes should be wearing red shirts...  >:D

With the new x-files show, why not scully?
Pant suit and sensible heels. Make a fake FBI badge and you are set.
Cosplay with out getting too far out of your comfort zone.

Wearing a pant suit is a GREAT idea for others in my office, but not me. I wear Storm Trooper skirts. ha! I think whatever I do, I'll do it for Halloween too. I'm loving everyones great ideas, especially since everyone is coming to me for ideas on what to wear.

If you regularly wear stormtrooper skirts, then why not one of those Star Wars dresses from her Universe or Thinkgeek?

I love those dresses!! I found 2 great ideas, you guys gave me the confidence to wear what makes me happy. So why not my version of Wonder Woman or Mera?

Someone said they were wearing a Batman shirt. No! So now they are dressing as Bane. Rallying up the troops. :D

Definitely! Cosplay is *supposed* to make you happy, not be a chore! You have to wear whatever makes you feel good.

Glad you liked the dresses!

And in a similar vein, I ordered a Walking Dead dress from Etsy months ago (custom order) and just got the shipping notice this morning. It will be here in time for Comic Con!!!!

I got the Michonne comic fabric, because I liked that it had more red in it.

I'd love to be twins with you, Miss Kitty!
