The Annual Battle Against Con Crud
« on: June 13, 2019, 05:19:46 PM »
Five minutes ago someone started hacking up a lung in my office.  I popped in an Emergen-C tab, drowned myself in antibacterial hand gel, and sprayed every surface with disinfectant spray.  Overkill? You betcha.  But I will NOT be the cause of other people's Con Crud.  I won't be bringing my coworkers icky germs with me to con.

That said, I'm also preparing my game plan for the con itself.  I got the Emergen-C to take during the con to boost my immune system.  I also got some pocket anti bacterial hand gels and a packet of portable hand wipes.

What's your battle plan against the crud?

Usually all of the above!
Fun isn’t something one considers when preparing for Comic-Con, but attending does put a smile on my face

I've never gotten con crud in the 19 years I've been going.  I live in SD so i sleep at home every night so that might be it.  Plenty of years I've stayed out until incredibly late going to midnight premiers or after hours parties (not so much nowadays).  I don't approach Comic-Con any different than any other day.   8)

**aaaaaand I totes jinxed myself to be horribly sick and bedridden by Saturday this year didn't I :'( :'(

Get a ton of sleep for the entire week before the con.

When I get on the plane, I wipe down my seat, tray table, seatbelt buckle - basically anything I’ll touch - with antibacterial wipes. I get some weird looks but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It’s a small price to pay to the con gods.

I swear by Zicam. The moment I feel the tiniest tickle in my throat, I take it. The year I got Con Crud,
I ran into a sick friend on PN and didn’t have Zicam with me that trip. So I was totally sick and losing my voice 2 days later. I have made it a point to take Zicam on every trip since.

Washing hands before eating also does a lot.

Daily Emergen-C starting about a week before the con for preventative immunity boost.
On con days, I drink an Emergen-C packet each morning. Have Zicam in my bag in case I start feeling like I caught something or walked into someone's cough/sneeze cloud. Also in my bag are wet wipes and hand sanitizer in case I can't leave a line or find a sink to wash hands.
Maybe overkill, but it's what works for me!

I have not tried Zicam but I'm definitely gonna look into it now.

I do the same thing! Except I do like 2 weeks of Emergen-C for preventative boosting. Of course, that didn't stop me from catching really bad con crud one year (unseasonable flu), I obsessively wash my hands and use hand sanitizer too. Sometimes it just happens regardless of what you do.

I've started boosting a full month in advance because so many of my coworkers are coughing right now.  There's 40 Emergen-C tablets in the bottle I bought so I should be ok.  And vitamin C is water soluble so I don't think this will harm me? lol  Uhhhh

Alcohol. Before, during and after the con. That seems to keep it at bay and I have a good time doing it ;)
