Hey [member=4270]mark[/member] are you organizing this again this year? I have to get payback against [member=2125]mickeyjack3[/member] for all his microaggressions.

Absolutely! Been meaning to start a thread but hadn't got to it yet. I'll post more tomorrow but if anyone is interested in participating please let me know, I met several people at SDCC this year who said they wanted in which is awesome.

Ha ha! The gauntlet has been thrown down. I’m ready to defend the oppressive reigning regime’s title.

I'll be sending a pm to everyone who participated last year, but you can also post here or message me if you want to play. I probably need to do some stuff on ESPN too.

Preseason ends 8/30 and the 1st regular season game is 9/6 so a good draft date would be around 8/31 (Friday) to 8/3 (Monday.) If anyone has preferences as to dates and times, let me know. (We likely can't find a time that works for everyone but past experience has shown that autodrafting is not typically a problem :) )

I still have some prizes from last year (and one from 2 years ago) to deliver. I will be pestering you folks as well.

You're in! And it's just for fun. We'll do some prizes but there's no buy in except for the usual time and tears. Last year we had 2 leagues of 12 teams each, we'll likely do something similar this year. Overall standings at the end were determined by place in league and then score.

I would prefer to keep the rules the same but it's open for discussion of course. Everyone, especially new folks, please look over the settings once you get access to the league.

Cool!

The only suggestions I have are these two: try auction waiver wire pick ups ($100 start; money wouldn't be real and the teams can get more during the season like $5, if they are the high scorer of the week and you can do $0 pickups on ESPN too) instead of snake and/or eliminating the TE spot for something else, since this football position is super weak.

I would advocate for keeping it as simple and as user friendly as we’ve had it for the previous years.

if we go that route someone will need to translate LOL

also

I was in both leagues last year because it was needed- [member=4270]mark[/member] if it's possible, i would prefer to only be in one league. perhaps [member=397]Javier[/member] can take one of my spots?

Just sent you a pm. For anyone else that wants to join you can send me a pm with the email that you want to use for espn. We have at least 2 more spots, maybe more if additional people decide not to play this year.

Everyone who played last year should have received an email, last year was the first time I used espn so this is the first time I am renewing an espn league so I may need to figure some things out. It looked like it had everyone join automatically, so please let me know if you don't want to participate.

Thanks for the suggestion! Once we get a clearer idea on who is in this year we can discuss it more. Something like ww could be different in one league too, but nothing that effects scoring. (Also, a small clarification, the draft is snake but the waiver wire is a queue.)

We've had 2 people drop out of the Otters and one from the Badgers, so I think what I'll do is drop my daughter's team as well and then we can run 2 leagues of 10 teams each. We will need some one to move from the Badgers to the Otters, let me know if you wouldn't mind.  Both leagues are the best league FYI.

I'm in; I've got unfinished business...

Speaking of unfinished business, I have some prizes that I didn't get to deliver during SDCC for [member=2835]straightline3[/member] , [member=5544]Deathbyjackal[/member] ,  [member=412]tk415650[/member] and [member=414]karatekid[/member] . Easiest thing is probably for you to pm me an address so I can mail them to you. I know a couple of you are in the SF Bay area so it might be easier for me to drop them off somewhere. These are already in a box with your name on it so that's a done deal as far as I'm concerned :) (Also if I told you you were getting a prize and you didn't get it and are not in the list I just made, let me know.)

To give people a sense of the prizes, [member=2835]straightline3[/member] has been a force to reckon with the last 2 years, winning 2 years ago and he came really close to winning last year, so he is getting a Juggernaut Pop. Someone else ended up at the other end of the list and is getting a Good Luck Bear Pop, and other people are somewhere in between.

As for future unfinished business I have this year's last place price already and it's a great one. I also have some extra (and really nice) Pops that I will be throwing into the mix, (apparently I did some shopping after having a few beverages and bought things I already had ... not the first time.)

I get what you are saying about the TE spot but I kind of like to have it. We could make it a flex WR/TE spot, that might not be too bad with 10 team leagues. We had so many really close matches last year that even a few extra TE points could end up deciding someone's week.

So people know about the auction ww thing, the way it works now is that players go into waivers when their game starts that week, at which point you can put in a claim for them which is processed on the next Wednesday. Everyone has a waiver priority, the best being 1, which determines whose claim is processed first. If your claim goes through then you get that player and your priority goes to last. (Your initial priority is the opposite of your draft order, so for example if you get the first draft pick in a 10 team league your initial waiver priority will be 10.)

In an auction, instead of priorities you get a budget to use for the players that you want to pick up. Say it's $100 and you really need to pick up a WR due to injuries then maybe you would bid $25, if I only bid $20 then you would win and the $20 would be decremented from your budget. People who switch to this kind of league tend to like it better, the trade-off is that you need to put in some more thought and planning into your season. We would allow $0 bids, so even if you blew your budget you could still try for players.

Let me know what you think, we could totally do one league with auctions and one without, moving people as needed. We just have to keep [member=3906]dcuodust[/member] and [member=2125]mickeyjack3[/member] together so they can work through some things.
Title: Re: 2018 Fantasy Football

I like how we have it now where the teams that have a weaker record get higher priority on waivers. I know that gives @dcuodust an advantage over me every week, but so it goes. The auction does sound fun, but we have people with a variety of experience levels or time to commit to doing the research. I think if we’re still making the Grand Poobah winner the highest score from both leagues’ final, then we need to keep the rules the same for both. By the way Mark, you did an awesome job of finding prizes!

Actually, it is fairer than the normal WW system as everyone has a shot at a certain player. It’s helpful in that it keeps the league competitive by making sure every team can be good throughout the year. And auction doesn’t take away anything from your work day nor is it rocket science. Overall, it’s the same amount of time you would put in when doing the normal waiver wire system. Likewise, when coming up with a good strategy. Lastly, I have done auction before and most (from rookies to vets) do enjoy this system. I can show you the posts of the leagues I have done before.

That being said, I do want everyone to have fun and if most do not want any changes, I’m fine with that as well.

Sunday is out for me. I’m moving my daughter for the new school year that day. I could autodraft if it  means that I’m holding everyone else up. Saturday night works best. Again, with this many people, I’m fine with taking whatever the football furies consign me from the ether.

Thanks! Just sent you a pm. That move should leave us at 2 10-team leagues.

Draft-wise it looks like Saturday might work best, we could do both around the same time. Right now I am thinking 4pm PST as a tentative time.

And please let me know if there are any objections to changing the TE slot to a WR/TE slot.

You're in, looks like espn automatically signed everyone up. I've only dropped people that explicitly asked me to. Hopefully none else drops out since we are now pretty much perfect with even numbers in both leagues.

I've set the draft times for 4PM EST / 7PM PST for the Otters and 4:30PM EST / 7:30PM PST for the Badgers.

I made the Badgers a bit later so I can make certain the Otter draft gets started ok, the team in that league under my name is my son's team and he will be autodrafting since he'll be away.

I'll check everything again later on, I've already managed to mess up the time zone, again :)

Hopefully the autodraft gods treated you well. It doesn't slow things down too much, after the first round it puts people on auto which then goes fast. (I seem to forget this every year and have to be reminded.)

Only 3 people (which includes myself) showed up for the draft last night. I know you had to do auto for your son’s team, so I am not worried about that. Just wondering about the league overall, nothing more. :)

I hope not, Javier is in that league and had account problems, jclemy was traveling and had bad internet, also one other person did join the draft a bit late. Hopefully the other few will be active once things get going.

I think the app will display in your time but I don't think you can change it in the browser version, it's annoying.

i did not find a setting to change the time zone in a browser.
Interestingly tho, if i click on the game time link from my over view page, it brings me to a page with the correct time zone for me

Haven't been watching today but had to put on the Bears-Packers game :) Wish I would have seen the Bucs-Saints game, obviously surprised how it went given that I started the Saints DST.

Chuckling that the Browns broke their losing streak with a tie.

Week 1 was nuts. And I'm happy how this Thursday's game has turned out, I had kind of given up on it after the 1st half. (TBH, also selfishly happy to see Mixon get some decent yard, would be even better if Ravens would stop trying to hurt him.)

Wish I was going to be there, that would be awesome. Always fun when there are other people yelling at the tv, and with FF we end up yelling at the oddest things.

Let's check in on the leagues, still early enough to be anyone's season ofc. In the Badgers [member=2143]TheOtherMel[/member] has the only undefeated team, [member=414]karatekid[/member] , @Carlo and I are at 2-1, and everyone else at 1-2.

In the Otters [member=2389]Mario Wario[/member] and [member=5732]superkatchick[/member] are both undefeated, (unfortunately they don't play each other until week 5.) [member=397]Javier[/member] and [member=5606]tsnyder[/member] are 2-1. Most everyone else at 1-2 except [member=819]brand4d2[/member] at 0-3.

I should also point out that I have the highest overall point total so far. That doesn't mean anything, I just wanted to mention it. That I have the most points out of everyone.

Let me know if I get anyone's forum name mixed up, I can't find my secret decoder list.

I think you did, "200.2" How do I know.....................Because i was the victim, lol. That was probably the highest scoring line up i've ever seen in this league.

I wiffed on Thielan when it came time to draft. I didn't think he could carry that streak over but he's been the most consistent WR in the league so far.

Excellent win "Cut that Meat"!

Woohoooo!!

Whoever suggested that the typical "TE" position be "TE/WR", kudos to you.  TE has been the most unreliable position all year, maybe outside of Ertz. I have a league with my family and I think i will be using that format next year as well as trying to convince them to change to PPR instead of Standard.

There's also a great prize this year for last place. Though some people have been neglecting their lineups recently so I think we will have to have a rule that says you don't get a prize unless you are making at least a halfhearted effort :)

I apologize for not posting much at all this season. I blame myself of course but also L, N, D, M, T, Q, another M, S, Y and A. These being all of the people that have recently quit the group I'm in at work, all unconnected and all during FF season. I do think I am starting to see the light at the end of this active volcano so I will try to post more, especially since playoffs start next week! Naturally my team is actually doing pretty good this year, most likely since I haven't spent nearly as much time on it as I usually do :(

There are some locks in both leagues but still a lot of teams that are make-or-break this week. Cowboys v Saints tonight, good luck to all!

Question: is it alright that teams that didn’t make the playoffs in both leagues can do waiver wire pickups? I know about the last place stuff, etc., but I am wondering. If it is fine due to the format you use, I’m cool with it. None? I’ll leave that up to you, Mark. I know each league is different. :)

(Btw, I’m not trying to be a jerk or anything like that, just want to know so that way no one gets in trouble. Talking about those that didn’t make it to the playoffs.)

Good question,  someone asked this last year too iirc and yeah,  it's ok. People that didn't make playoffs still have the consolation bracket and we want them to fight to the bitter end, crush their enemies, something something lamentations.

ETA: Similarly, if people with a bye this week want to pick up some players in advance of next week that's cool too. (I've had people in other leagues question this.)

Sorry I haven't been more talkative as I realized I haven't been checking the off-topic chat section.  While I'm not very happy with how my team shaped up through out the season I squeezed into the playoffs with a win last week.  Ready to make some noise in the playoffs!!

Week 2 of the playoffs starts today, everyone is playing this week, good luck to all :)

In Week 1 [member=2143]TheOtherMel[/member] , [member=2389]Mario Wario[/member] , [member=2835]straightline3[/member] and yours truly had a bye. but a lot of matches came down to Monday's game. However the most important part of the game wasn't even shown (at least in the broadcast I saw.)

So if you missed it as well, here is the Corgi Cup Seahawks Halftime Show:

https://www.seahawks.com/video/2018-week-14-corgi-cup-halftime-show (https://www.seahawks.com/video/2018-week-14-corgi-cup-halftime-show)

In the winners brackets, [member=3450]Cut That Meat[/member] , [member=414]karatekid[/member] , Gavin (who is right now sitting through his first college final at 8am the poor guy hahaha) and [member=5606]tsnyder[/member] advance.

And in the consolation brackets, [member=1]alyssa[/member] , [member=3906]dcuodust[/member] [member=819]brand4d2[/member] and [member=412]tk415650[/member] advance (the latter in a really close game.)

Good luck to you folks! Maybe next year we could get a little more trades going just to break up the routine.

Or I've heard of this league called a "Vampire League" which sounds really fun but not sure how it's actually put into practice. But all for another time. GO NINERS!!!

I had never heard of "vampire leagues," but this is the second time this week that someone in a league that I am in has introduced the idea. From what I have learned so far, it is not something I would be interested in. Call me old-fashioned, but it's a little too far afield for me. Good luck all!

Quick reminder to check your lineups, I had completely forgotten that there are 2 games today, Jets v Texans at 1:30 (in about an hour) and Browns v Broncos at 5:20.

Lot of weird scores this week, with some typically reliable players coming in under the expected :( Big matchup to be decided tonight as [member=2389]Mario Wario[/member] v Gavin who both have 2 players in tonight's game.

I'm also (quietly) rooting for [member=2389]Mario Wario[/member] since I basically need my son to lose in order for me to beat my brother in the family league. Family is complicated.

Too bad the yucky week 15 bug got to the Monday Night Football game. Only CMC and Kamera showed up tonight...barf. Anyway, I did better in another league at least and daily, too, so I have that. No matter what though, I will soon be free to cheer for my Saints. Good luck to those that made it to the championship round in both FoCC leagues! Still happy about my season, regardless of tonight’s results.

Btw, for Otters and Badgers, I noticed that a lot of teams kept injured players that were done for the season. Unless it’s a keeper/dynasty league or that player has a shot to come off the IR during a season, no need to use that IR spot for nothing or a slot in general. Just drop those that aren’t coming back in a redraft league like the ones we are in. Just a friendly tip for next year. Speaking of which, the offseason has begun for me in Otters so see you all next season!

Sucks, but I wouldn't worry about it. This week's games will determine your finish in the league.

Brees and Antonio Brown and James White carried me all season to get to the semis.  And then not show up during semifinal week.  So painful.

I was really surprised at that game, I think the over-under line was around 50 points?

FYI, espn has been doing some weird things today. Rosters locking and unlocking, and scores have been shifting around which has at times messed up the matchups for the final week. Hopefully they will get it all sorted soon  :( At least there's no Thursday game this week.

So, unless we have a major stats correction this week, I think it’s safe to say congratulations to [member=4270]mark[/member] for winning Badgers (by beating Cut that Meat). Likewise, for his son for winning Otters once again (by beating Team Terminator).

Cut that Meat still had a great season, regardless of finishing second again. Maybe 2019 will be the year of the Meat? Or Team Terminator will terminate us all next season? We shall find out in 2019!

And finally, father and son (Darth Vader vs. Luke Skywalker type battle?) have 1 more player left on each team, so who will be the overall FoCC champ? Both are sitting at 140 points right now. Good luck you two!  :)

I was sad to see that, hit me in my family league as well where I ended up losing to my nephew in the finals. I'll be hearing about that all year :(

Need to go through the weeks and figure out prizes, having a bit of a dilemma about the last place prize since both of the teams that finished last in each league had abandoned their teams partway through the season and I would like the award to go to someone who was active. I'll figure something out.

(There was an earlier post about the idea of a "vampire" league which looked fun but that I don't think we could make it work with our setup, you would have to do a manual draft for example. I was wondering about having a zombie protocol in the future in the event that we have any more abandoned teams. Message the owner, take over the team if we don;t hear back, replace the picture with a zombie picture and then manage it according to a strict set of rules. And hope the owner comes back of course.)

Yes, abandoned teams are a problem. Maybe, if the players are all dropped to waivers, owners can pick up players in waiver order. That seems fair.

People should play for pride even if you're team has no chance of winning, there should be a punishment agreed-upon by all team captains at the beginning of the season that if you're making the decision to be in the league you're in all the way through, if you abandon your team there should be some sort of punishment at Comic-Con , something along the lines of having to wait inline for someone in the league, or they could have to wear t-shirts all week of their favorite teams rivals, or even a t-shirt talking about the disgrace of abandoning your team, I mean heck you can even have them wear Twilight shirts all week

I think all my bad luck poured into this league this year. Never abandoned my team but it sure felt like my players sometimes forgot the memo they were suppose to play to win each Sunday. I won all the other leagues (3) I was in. Thanks again for putting this together.

With respect to abandoned teams, some of us get so busy with stuff we don't even have time to watch or read about football. It's not on purpose, it just happens. (Also, when you're top 2 picks miss the entire year, there isn't much with waivers or free agency that you can do lol.)
