Title: Power-Con: September 11-12, 2021 at Hilton Anaheim
Post by: AzT on April 07, 2021, 07:08:38 PM

thepowercon With the news of California’s plans to be fully reopened by June 15th, Power-Con 2021 is moving ahead with high hopes!

There are a few conditions we are required to honor:
• The California mask mandate is in effect. Adequate face covering is required
• All in attendance must do their best to observe social distancing. We do not know the exact distancing specifics that will be required. Regardless, please be mindful of others
• International Attendees travelling to the USA must be vaccinated.

For domestic Attendees, the current plan does not require proof of testing or vaccination. But this means the total attendance will be limited! And please note that this might change and proof of testing or vaccination may end up being required for domestic Attendees. We have to do whatever the government and the hotel require, and we will post updated information if things change.

Hotel reservations will be opening this Saturday, April 10th at 9am Pacific for our discounted room block at the Hilton Anaheim. We will post more hotel info before Saturday.

Also, the reveals of the Power-Con 2021 exclusives are coming as early as April 15th. But that date can change. Please keep checking back for more info.

Tickets will go on sale shortly after the reveal of the exclusives. Ticket prices for 2021 are $40.00 for Saturday or Sunday, $60.00 for the weekend, and $300.00 for Power Passes. Children 12 and under get in for free. We will have a Non-Attendee option for fans who want the exclusives but cannot attend. More info will be posted soon.

We will be reaching out to returning Exhibitors in the near future. After that we will open up vendor space requests to the public. More info will be posted soon. Volunteer, Press, and Cosplay registration info is also coming soon.

Thanks to everyone for their support of Power-Con and we hope to see you this September 11 & 12 in Anaheim, California!

The Power-Con exclusives sold out in an insanely fast amount of time. We have never witnessed anything like this before.

The traffic to our server (which is a very robust server) was so strong that the server crashed. The techs worked hard to remedy the situation, but it still took 30 minutes to get it back up and running smoothly. It’s impossible to tell if the server being up from the start would have changed anyone’s chances, as so many people kept refreshing and continued to do so until the server came up and they could add items to their cart.

Regardless, we apologize to anyone who hoped to get these and were not able to do so either because of the server issue, or due to the fast sell-out at both Power-Con and BBTS. Many of you are asking if more will be made. Exclusives are typically limited and Mattel will not be making more for Power-Con.

As far as the fast sell-out, that was not expected. We expected a bump in interest, but not this level based on all prior Power-Con exclusive pre-sale events. We had the same number of exclusives as in 2020, and those took a month to sell through. BigBadToyStore limited each 2021 item to 1 per customer. We limited each 2021 item to 3 per customer, and it took us longer to sell out than BBTS. Going from a month to sell out in 2020, to about 30 minutes for BBTS and about an hour for Power-Con pre-sales just a year later is not something anyone could have anticipated.
You might have witnessed some inventory reporting with the Power-Con shopping cart that may have seemed confusing. There were quite a few customers who came to the pre-sale, added items to their cart, then… sat there. They didn’t complete their order or they just added them and left. What this did was remove the items from inventory for 15 minutes. When that time limit expired, those items would show back up for sale. This happened continuously until all items were sold out. That’s the one downside to having a shopping cart that secures your items long enough to pay. We never want fans to go through the White Screen of Death from previous MattyCollector days where fans would have an item in their cart, only for it to sell out before completing purchase. So if you saw inventory fluctuating between Sold-Out and In-Stock, that is what was taking place.

Some of you are upset that we offered these through BigBadToyStore, due to BBTS’s asking price. Yes, the BBTS price tag is higher, but they have to pay for their operations and generate a profit. And we can’t help them to reduce their markup by selling the exclusives to them cheaper, as the limited profit we make pays for Power-Con. So BBTS is paying what you pay for exclusives, then adding what they need to the price in order to run their business.

The reason we keep using BBTS is because so many of you have asked for it year to year. They don’t take payment up front for the full order, they have their Pile of Loot program to help save on shipping, plus they charge a super low shipping cost. Partnering through BBTS isn’t intended to hurt you. Instead, it’s about giving fans options.

But now we have this really fast sell out that took us by surprise. What could be fueling this increase in interest? The main factor is most likely the recent reveal of images of the new toys and images for the new Revelations cartoon. There is also the recent release of the official toy guide from Dark Horse which may be bringing new and old fans to MOTU. Plus the collector’s market has seen a bit of a boom in the past year and a half. No matter what is behind it, there is a noteworthy rise in interest in MOTU.

So who was buying these? Was it fans? Was it bots? Was it resellers? We looked at our own data for answers.
Despite the ability to get up to 3 of each via Power-Con, the overwhelming majority of orders were for 1 of each item, or just 1 of a particular item. We only saw a handful of orders that maxed out at 3 of each item. Ultimately, the stock at Power-Con was not depleted by resellers.
We also looked at the data of who was ordering. Many of the customers are prior Power-Con customers. So there was a lot of repeat business from existing fans.
For the other orders, we see no noticeable signs of bots being used. Nearly all orders are from unique individuals in places all over the world. These customers might be speculators, or they might be resellers, but hopefully they are new fans who are jumping into the world of MOTU.

Most of you that have contacted us directly have been very polite, despite being upset. That was very kind of you, as we know many of you are angry and you didn’t have to be pleasant at all. Power-Con is constantly striving to create an enjoyable event for Attendees from across the globe, and we will always value the contributions of those of you who are unable to attend the show. All of your feedback will be taken into serious consideration for Power-Con moving forward, and we thank you for sharing your experiences with us so we can work to improve future pre-sale events.

While there is always a shred of hope, we don’t expect the MOTU Origins exclusives to arrive in time. We have received no more updates and our hope is quickly dwindling. We wish we had some way to speed things along at the ports so the exclusives would be unloaded. Still, we are deeply sorry and apologize to any fans who are disappointed or upset that they will not be able to pick up their exclusives at the show. The t-shirts and souvenir pins will still be available for pickup.

As we mentioned on August 24th, attendees & exhibitors who pre-ordered the MOTU Origins exclusives will have two options:
1. We will give you a full refund of the cost of the exclusives following the conclusion of Power-Con. Please note that passes are non-refundable.
2. You can pay to have your exclusives shipped to an address of your choosing. This will include pins and shirts if you pre-ordered those as well. But please note we can offer no discounts on shipping, and that shipping has gotten to be fairly pricey.

We still hope to see everyone at the show who purchased tickets. Please note that you do not need to contact us with your preferred option as we will e-mail you after the show ends. Our plan is to reach out within a week or two, but two weeks is more likely. We will post a notice when we have sent e-mails to attendees & exhibitors who pre-ordered exclusives so you won’t miss that important correspondence.

And for those of you coming to the show, here’s a quick recap of our COVID-19 requirements:
• Face coverings will be required inside the convention, inside the panel room, while in line at Registration, and when queued to enter the show floor. Face shields are discouraged but allowed.
• We will be limiting the number of people on the show floor at one time. Once we hit the floor limit, attendees will be required to queue at the show room entrance. Thereafter, for each attendee who exits, another will be allowed entrance. We have done our best to minimize the amount of line queueing, hence us pausing Saturday ticket sales until 1pm on Saturday when tickets must be purchased in-person. We appreciate your patience and assistance with this process.
• We will not be making temperature checks, require proof of vaccination, or require proof of negative test results.
• If you feel sick or ill, or if you are immunocompromised, we ask that you please stay home. If you stay home, but you pre-ordered exclusives, we will contact you a week or two after the show to arrange S/H payment or to refund you the cost of the exclusives.
Thank you so much for your time and we hope to see you at Power-Con.

It’s Power-Con season, which means that you can find some of the rarest and most amazing Masters of the Universe gear while reminiscing about the classic toys and cartoons that bring us together! And this year, our designers went all out with exclusive figures and merchandise, so get ready to hit the MOTU motherload.

All hail Hordak! This Exclusive MOTU Origins Horde Figure multipack features Hordak, supreme leader and the man who taught Skeletor about the dark magic. He is the sworn nemesis of King Grayskull—along with the evil Grizzlor, the wild beast man from Jungulia who serves Hordak as his hairy henchman.

To round out the collection, we have extremely rare black Shadow Horde Trooper and Crimson Horde trooper—the foot soldiers of the Horde who wreak havoc throughout the galaxy for their master, Hordak.

Is that He-Man and Battle Cat? No, it’s their evil blue doppelgangers, Faker and Dupli-Cat, ready to trick the good guys into letting their guard down. This Power-Con Exclusive Origins set comes complete with their orange armor and weapons, including his own Havoc Staff and Power Sword.

Our designers took the original decal stickers from the OG Grayskull and thought, “what if our figures could interact with them?” So they brought to life three of the castle’s best decorations—the Dungeon Monster, the robot sparring partner, and the Spirit of Grayskull. All of these additions fit perfectly into your Origins Castle Grayskull to help He-Man and his friends keep the power safe behind its coveted walls.

All of these Exclusive collectibles come in classic, Origins packaging to celebrate everything that’s important to the MOTU fandom. Get them all before they’re gone!

Rising September 13, 2021 9am PT

Ruler of the Sun, Sun-Man has joined forces with He-Man in the battle against evil. This legendary hero was created in 1985 by a mother who saw a need for diversity in the action figure space, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome him to the Masters of the Universe family!

This figure features 16 points of articulation, swappable heads, hands, and accessories. The packaging pays homage to Sun-Man’s origin story and features deluxe artwork and an original comic.

Arriving September 13, 2021 9am PT

We asked our MOTU fans which character we should make next. You answered loud and clear. So now, we’re super proud to offer this MOTU Collectors exclusive… Tri-Klops!

Based on his first mini-comic appearance, this Tri-Klops figure comes with his signature rotating visor with three different types of vision, his sword, a Glow-in-the-Dark Warrior Ring (just like his first figure), and an exclusive mini-comic to showcase how he got his evil start.

The ultimate spy for Skeletor, this three-eyed menace was originally intended to be an ally of He-Man but was quickly turned into an evil minion for the first toy line.

This exclusive figure comes in retro-style packaging for the true collectors, showcasing the art and details from the 80s toy line.

Here is the latest update on the status of the Power-Con MOTU Origins exclusives.

As we mentioned on September 25th, finalizing all Attendee shipping quotes is bit slower going as we have to separate out non-toy items that have already been picked up by Attendees at the convention, and that process is a bit more involved than originally anticipated. Our apologies! We plan to start e-mailing Attendees very soon to see if Attendees want a refund on their MOTU Origins toy pre-orders or if they will pay S/H to send them their way.

As far as the MOTU Origins exclusives themselves:
• All of our Horde 4-Packs have arrived
• The Faker 2-Packs are still not here yet. Their delivery to us is now estimated to be late October
• The Grayskull accessory exclusives are not yet in route, and are now expected to be delivered to us anywhere from early-November to mid-November.
We are going to wait until we get the Faker 2-Packs before we proceed with any shipping. Once they arrive, we will fulfill Attendee orders first for those who just ordered 2-Packs and/or 4-Packs, followed by Non-Attendee orders for the same. Then once the Grayskull accessory packs arrive, we’ll handle the remaining orders (Attendees first, then Non-Attendees).
BBTS won’t get their stock until we ship it to them. Which means we have to get it first, then we’ll ship it off to BBTS while we continue to work on customer orders made directly through Power-Con.

Fans saw that Mattel made extra of the Power-Con exclusives and pre-sold those the Monday after Power-Con. For those who have asked, we receive none of the sales from the extra that Mattel sold. But our exclusives will be slightly different than the ones pre-sold on Mattel Creations:
• the Power-Con logo will be at the top panel of each outside mailer box
• each exclusive will come with three trading cards:
4Pack comes with He-Man, Skeletor, Hordak
2Pack comes with She-Ra, Teela, Evil-Lyn
Grayskull Pack comes with Man-At-Arms, Beast Man, Mer-Man
If you pre-purchased one of each Power-Con exclusive, all nine cards come together to form the awesome MOTU Origins Castle Grayskull box art battle scene.

We know we are starting to sound like a broken record but we mean it when we say we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while this is sorted out. We know it’s been frustrating and we apologize for any inconvenience that this situation has created for you. We’ll share more info as it becomes available.
