Regis Philbin passed away. WHile I knew of him before that, he entered pop culture history by hosting Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and coining the phrase, 'Is that your final answer?', among others.

Director/Writer/Producer Sir Alan Parker died Friday July 31 after a lengthy illness.  Parker directed such films as:
MIDNIGHT EXPRESS (for which he won a BAFTA Best Director award, the British equivalent of an Oscar)
FAME
BIRDY (for which he was the Grand Prix prize at Cannes)
ANGEL HEART (in which De Niro played The Devil)
MISSISSIPPI BURNING
THE COMMITMENTS (for which he won his second BAFTA Best Director, as well as BAFTA Best Picture)
EVITA (for which he won a Golden Globe for Best Picture)
ANGELA'S ASHES (which has a great John Williams score)

He had a diverse career, with hits and critically acclaimed films.

He was 76

chadwickboseman It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman.⁣

Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV. ⁣

A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. ⁣

It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther. ⁣

He died in his home, with his wife and family by his side. ⁣

The family thanks you for your love and prayers, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time. ⁣

Leslie Hamilton Freas, twin sister of Terminator star Linda Hamilton, has passed away at the age of 63. An obituary about the passing of Freas was released on Thursday. The cause of Freas' death has not been made public. Freas, Hamilton's identical twin, acted as her stunt double in the 1991 sci-fi action classic Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Not only that, but Freas was also chosen to portray the cyborg version of Sarah Connor when it was required there be two of the character in the same shot. She can be seen briefly in a dramatic fight scene towards the end, wherein the real Sarah Connor must shoot T-1000, which has taken on her likeness, in order to save her son, John. She is credited in the film as "Leslie Hamilton Gearren."

What a tough loss.  He was only on my (and likely mainstream) radar for less than a decade, but he's made such a huge cultural impact.  The fact he was essentially dying from cancer almost his entire time in the MCU is mind boggling: the amount of training, bulking up before shooting, and all the work done post-filming to promote the movie world-wide is astounding.  I've known people with cancer that after treatments struggle to go from bed to kitchen, let alone maintain a Marvel Studios schedule of 4 films in 3 years.  Oh, on top of his other amazing work, too!

FWIW, his role in DA 5 BLOODS, Spike Lee's brilliant Viet Nam story, is small but incredible & pivotal.  His final scene in the film (FWIR, at least) was gut-wrenching when I first saw it in June when it was released on Netflix: I can't fathom being able to keep it together seeing it now (I'm almost tearing up just thinking about it).

This is a tough loss.  He changed mainstream culture, and gave Black kids worldwide a superhero they could see themselves in.  NEVER doubt the impact of representation, and props to Chadwick for making the absolute most of his incredibly, tragically short time on our floating blue rock

Her last film will be the Edgar Wright (SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD; BABY DRIVER; other masterpieces) film LAST NIGHT IN SOHO: a film I think he's said is a straight-up horror film of some type (as opposed to SHAUN OF THE DEAD, his brilliant horror-comedy).  She was not only a great actress, but for most of her life at least a style 'expert!'
