This was a gut punch!!!

I first saw her in 'Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan".   She hit a home run.

Then next, I saw her in Cheers.  Yes, I saw the original broadcast.  She was replacing a regular character, and again, she hit a home run.

She will be missed.

Yeah she had the impossible task of replacing Shelly Long, and I think one could argue the show got _better_ when she came aboard.  In fact, she had one of my all-time favorite jokes of the series: she had gotten dumped by her rich boyfriend, and got wasted.  Sam came to her apartment to check on her the next day, and Sam says "OMG are you drinking again?!"  Alley says, "well, that would imply I stopped." *she puts the wine bottle down on a counter and says "Now I stopped." *immediately picks bottle back up "Now I'm drinking again."
It's crazy to think that a really popular sitcom lost a star in season _SIX_ and said replacement nailed it and the show still absolutely thrived!  That type of thing, especially in a sitcom, feels rare, if not unheard of nowadays (how many sitcoms even last 6 years nowadays, let alone a shuffling of the female lead after 5 seasons where it succeeds for another SIX SEASONS)!

In the 80's she was also in the real fun sci-fi movie RUNAWAY that starred Tom Sellick as a cop in the future who's main job was dealing with robots who malfunction.  Alley played the girlfriend of the bad guy (Kiss' Gene Simmons!) who not only created evil spider robots that shoot acid, but also created bullets that follow its pre-programmed target if the intended victim tries to jump out of the way or run around the corner.  It's a shlocky, pure-80's sci-fi action movie, but all involved 'knew the assignment,' so to speak, and when I was a kid in the 80's it was a favorite.

Her film debut was the meaty role in WRATH OF KHAN, where she was the 'audience surrogate'-esque character (which I thought she was awesome in).  She didn't return for STAR TREK III: THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK, for reasons that vary depending on which story one chooses to believe.  Nimoy said when she was signed for WRATH OF KHAN they only signed her for one film, and she could negotiate for III; she demanded too much money so they just recast.  She had stated that she didn't want to do it because she didn't want to 'be typecast,' though RUNAWAY came out the same year as SEARCH FOR SPOCK which was also a sci-fi action movie.

She was awesome as the female lead in a favorite 80's comedy of mine, SUMMER SCHOOL, where she plays an honor's teacher helping a 'slacker' PE teacher roped into teaching a remedial English cast.  She often seemed to play a stronger female role, and I don't recall her playing a lot of 'damsel in distress' types.  And of course, her star role in LOOK WHO'S TALKING, a crazy high-situation comedy movie that co-starred Bruce Willis as the inner-voice of a baby :o  It was an unexpected hit that spawned (fairly obnoxious in my movie-snob opinion  :P )sequels, a knock-off TV series, and a reboot/remake currently in development.  The original was what I'd call "a cute 80's comedy" that's entertaining enough; the sequels, from what I remember, felt pretty stale, though I see they both have solid casts w/Alley, John Travolta (the eventual boyfriend), & Olivia Dukakis in all three films.

Her social media persona over the most recent half dozen years or so was fairly caustic, especially depending on one's political persuasions, but her talents as an actress were undeniable.

I met Kirstie outside Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in San Antonio during Alamo City Comicon in 2018. She was eating dinner with George Wendt and John Ratzenberger and she stepped out to smoke. I waited a beat and then joined her. We were the only two people out there and she borrowed my lighter since her’s wasn’t working. I told her how amazing she looked (because she did) and then we started chatting about the weather, and I told her Drop Dead Gorgeous was one of my favorite movies. She said it was her sorority’s favorite too. She was extremely kind and it was a fun, easy conversation. She will definitely be missed.

Annie Wersching, who played Tess in the video game The Last of US, died after a 2 year battle with cancer.  She was 45.

She was also in a lot of other projects.  She's a very familiar actor.  The last thing I remember her from is The Rookie TV show.

She was the Borg Queen on "Picard". I saw a behind the scenes feature on all the make-up work they had to do. She had a wonderful attitude about her work.
