AMC to Allow Renting Theaters for Movies Starting at $99

Now this sounds interesting.  For up to 20 people, you can reserve a theater to watch a movie.

Can invite some friends, still be socially distant in the theater, and see a movie in a movie setting...pretty cool!

it's too bad their choices are really limited; I kind of thought the largest movie theater chain in the world would have a deeper selection of movies here.  Cool idea, and maybe they'll expand the movie list if the idea takes off more

Agreed...for me, right now, Jurassic Park is the top of the list.

I'm looking into this for a group of peeps...I'll post here what I find out/experiences.

The reason it starts at $99 is the movie selection.  Old movies cost less.  This offer starts at $99 for the oldest movies and the price goes up from there.

In a demonstration of how movie theaters are struggling right now, the new blockbuster opening this weekend only netted $3.7 million.

We've booked a theatre this Sunday (at an Arizona chain, Harkins) to see Tenet.  It cost $149 + $5 fee, so $154 total.  We have 14 people planning to attend.  I plan to buy loads of popcorn and snacks, gotta keep our theatres in business!

Does everyone need to wear a mask while watching?

Yes, unless you are eating or drinking.  Which for me is pretty much all through a movie, I eat one kernel of popcorn at a time.  I'll report back on how it goes.

I would definitely consider doing this. But it's still not allowed at all in my county, and I don't think I can convince any friends to drive 60 miles to try it. I hope it's a great time, @TardisMom !

I never thought I'd see "blockbuster" and Liam Neeson in the same sentence. lol.

I went to the theater last weekend (they just opened in my area at 25% capacity). Masks were required. Concessions were SUPER limited. Just nachos, popcorn, soda, candy, and hot dogs. AMC usually has pizzas, burgers, fries, chicken strips, mac n cheese, etc. etc. Seats on either side of you are blocked when you book, so there's a 1 seat buffer between you and a stranger.

Of course, when I went, there were only a handful of people in the entire theater. I was there to see Liam Neeson's movie though.

I also saw New Mutants which had maybe 10 people in the theater.

We had our Tenet movie night last night, Sunday at 6:30pm. It cost $149  + $5 fee for the entire theatre, with a maximum of 20 people.  We had 13.  It was a small theatre with reclining seats that had room to walk in front of them when reclined, so pretty roomy.  There were 6 rows with about 9 seats per row.  We spaced ourselves out in the room and had plenty of space between us.  We all agreed it was a good set up and we'd do it again.

The rest of the theatre was pretty dead, maybe 15 people total plus about 6 staff, all wearing masks.  We got drinks from the bartender, and popcorn and soda.  This theatre has a refillable cup you can buy each year for $2 refills each time you come, but they can't do that now as they can't take the cup from you to fill it.  So many details to consider!

As far as the movie itself, I don't have any idea what I watched, time to go online and read all the recaps, lol.

I could never get through the phone to talk to a rep, then a couple days ago they removed the phone number from the page :(

Hoping this gets extended...

The theatre we went to has online booking.  I looked at next weekend and they've increased the number of times available for private viewings so it must be doing okay.  Hopefully they'll continue!

My Regal is one of 3 in a bazillion mile radius that's still open. It seemed hoppin' on Tuesday
