I wonder if this will replace giving out tickets for these signings at the show.  Will they be linked to your badge?  Will they be linked to your name?  do you have to print out the ticket if you win?  That's just the questions that popped into my head over the first couple of minutes.

Oh god they listened to me

I was like. "hey, instead of making people wait outside in the cold for 10 hours why don't you make a raffle? It will be 100% fair. EVERYONE gets and equal chance. Because I thought getting there at 2am was early and that I was going to be 1st in line but I guessed wrong. And even those who did get tickets, now they are tried and can't fully enjoy the best day of the con (sat)."

I like the idea but yes... HOW does it work?

Well on one hand, I won't be sorry if I don't have to stand/sit in line for 8-10 hours or more, just to get an autograph ticket. BUT at least then if you're there early enough, you have a decent chance of getting one. This is so random, and strictly luck of the draw. Which I suppose is fair, but...  :P

I may just have to settle for being able to see the Walking Dead panel. If I can get into the theater & find a seat.

Wishing now I'd been able to snag a VIP pass...

2 questions come to mind, maybe Brian can clarify

1. Can we enter more than one contest
2. Is there a way to confirm they are not sold/given away. I.E. if you win you are the one getting the autograph

Hey gang. This link should answer most of your questions.

http://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/Whos-Coming/Autographs/Free-Private-Autographing/

We wanted to make the process of getting free autographs fairer and less brutal for everyone. Hopefully this will reduce the amount of people sleeping outside on the street in the cold. This way everyone has a shot at an autograph and you will know if you have one before you ever get to the building. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Thanks, Brian! Will this be the only way to get autograph tickets this year, then? Not that I'm sorry I won't need to camp out all night in the cold, of course.  :D

This will be the only way to get the free autograph tickets. This should make it easier for fans and give more people the opportunity to obtain a pass. This will also help us control it more and eliminate scalping of the autograph tickets. Feel free to let me know your questions, concerns, complaints, etc.

Can we enter and win more than one giveaway.
Do we choose one option for all rounds?
Do we choose one option per round?
If we choose a giveaway in one round and don't win, can we enter for the other giveaways in that round?
Can we enter all the giveaways in each round?

Say I want TWD and they show up in Round 2 and I waited but did not win but could have possibly won Robot Chicken in round 1 which would have been my 'second choice' then I am somewhat out of luck on both accounts

I think by having it as a online drawing it makes it too easy. People who are not even fans are going to be trying and possible winning autograph tickets just because it's free and it takes no effort. An in person raffle system like they do at SDCC is in my opinion a better way to go since it takes care of making it more fair but also at least makes people put in a little effort to keep most non fans from really trying.

All fans are created equal. Because a fan isn't willing to sit outside overnight doesn't make them less of a fan. This allows everyone a shot at an autographing ticket. We want it to be easy for people. This should make it much cleaner and easier the whole way around for fans. It is also one less line that people will need to stand in so they can enjoy more of the show.

As for the questions you brought up. A fan can enter all the giveaways in each round. They only have one entry for each autograph session. They can win more than one autograph ticket if they are lucky. Technically if a fan is very lucky they could score an autograph ticket to each session that they enter.

Appreciate the message here and I do agree with this method even if I also see the side of the die hards that choose to sit outside because they are saying they are the number 1 fans.

I assume also that there will be checks in place to cut down on the scalping. Say a person goes to FB to try and sell their ticket maybe that counts as a forfieture of said ticket

I guess we will have to disagree with this. I think it does take more of a fan to make the effort to camp out or to get in line very early. Why does everything everyone wants need to be easy. I think it should take some amount of effort to get something you really want. Like i said you are going to have people who are not even fans trying and probably winning autographs because it takes no effort to go on the computer and hit a button. Only the biggest fans are the ones who will put in the effort to get in line or camp out.
But you could of also done something like a live drawing which they do at San Diego comic con which still requires at least some effort to show up at a certain time for the drawing.

A fans ability to suffer shouldn't be a judgement on how big of a fan they are. Not everyone is able to spend a night on the street for autograph tickets. It doesn't make them less of a fan. This gives all fans an opportunity. I appreciate hardcore fans and the ones that are able to sacrifice more than others but I don't think it is fair to judge how much of a fan someone is based on waiting on a line.

There will be no scalping of these tickets. there are additional security measures that we will only reveal to the winner of the autograph tickets. There will be several checks put in place and autograph tickets will not be exchanged, sold, etc or their will be forfeit. There will also be no opportunity for that to happen because of the structure we will have in place.

What about the people who are working at that time of day, and cannot get online somehow to get their chance at a ticket? Will there be chances later in the day for those fans? Or are they just SOL?  :(
[/quote]

What about those who have parents/spouses who wont let them sleep out in the street for ten hours? What if a person has a health problem or are pregnant and can't stay out ten hours in the cold? What if they have some sort of responsibility to attend to at night? What if they show up a half hour too late and end up a few people short of being the top 50 and waited on line for ten hours for nothing?

I guess they're just SOL.

If you're "hardcore" enough to wait ten hours in the cold for a ticket then I think you can be hardcore enough to have a family member or friend us your facebook and click a link

Personally, I think this is awesome and for people whining about "#1 fans" and camping outside and "earning it," get out of here with that. With some signings, like Marvel (during SDCC), it didn't matter if you were first or last because it was a raffle. You pulled a ticket and you either one or you didn't. IMO, this isn't much different.

It's just not safe to have people camping out and sleeping outside JUST to MAYBE get an autograph. Like other people have said, what about those with kids? health issues? coming in from out of town? Should they miss out just because of those issues? No.

100,000 people; ~100 tickets per giveaway is .1% of the attending population no matter what you will have upset people

In my opinion it will obviously cut down on people overnighting it, however I still think there will still be some camping out for 2 reasons.
1. Uninformed fans who will still think the tickets are being given away at the show day of. Trust me it will happen and trust me they will complain. It will happen
2. People who may want to make sure they get into the former ign theater or Hall H syndrome

Thanks guys! I definitely appreciate the support. I post here because I feel that you have a respectful audience and forum. I'm happy to hear the good and the bad comments. We can debate and keep it positive and I really appreciate that. We want our autographing program to be as fair as possible for every fan. If the time of the raffle is a huge issue on this first round let me know and we will change it for the second round. My hope is that by giving away the tickets in this way it will be easier on fans, give more fans an opportunity to get free autographing tickets and ultimately be safer for fans. We have been very blessed by good weather at NYCC for several years even though it was very cold last year. I know this is an extreme example but Hurricane Sandy happened right after NYCC last year. What if we have a severe lightning storm while fans are camped out overnight for autograph tickets? That could be scary. Hopefully this program will reduce the amount of people wanting to camp out overnight and give everyone a fair shot at the autograph they want. I'm sure there will still be lines to get in and that is a huge compliment for us. I love seeing everyone there when I get to the building in the morning. Thanks for understanding and for at least being open to the new autographing procedure. When you have 100,000+ people and only 50 autograph tickets available for certain people you will always disappoint someone. It is simple supply and demand. Hopefully this new procedure will at least give everyone a fair shot and make the entire experience easier for fans.

We're happy to have you engage us back and listen to comments. As to debating, hey people are going to have different opinions and that is OK, but we do stress to keep it respectful to everyone here, we are a positive community.

Even if you change the time you will still have people argue. Like you say you will never please 100% of the population. I mean if you had the giveaway open up at 6 PM on a Wednesday I would be at the Gym and would certainly be upset about it if I missed a ticket opportunity. If you have it at 12 people who are not able to get in at 12 would also complain same for every hour.

Bottom line just don't have the ticketing open up at 5-7pm Mondays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays as that is my Gym Time and nothing can go wrong ;D

Brian, I know the Walking Dead wasn't announced in this round, but will they be part of this process in a future round or will that signing be handled differently through AMC directly?

a thought and an observation

My biggest concern with this system is that there will be folks trying for tickets who aim to resell them.  I understand that there will be robust system per Brian's comment and that gives me hope.

Or...what happens if someone wins a ticket & doesn't have a pass- yes they won't get to use the ticket but that ticket/slot will be lost to the fans. So instead of 50 tickets able to go threw the line only 49 will be allowed in line.  maybe an alternate pool would help, i.e.  if someone doesn't show, someone from the alternate pool would get the golden ticket.

One last thought regarding timing of the ticket pull/lottery.  Since this one is at noon on Wednesday perhaps the next one could be at noon on a Saturday?  some folks work m-f 9-5, some work in the service industry (weekends etc).  It's wonderful that there seems to be some leeway regarding the timing of the ticket pull!

I agree that maybe having the 2nd round on a weekend might help quiet some of the rage about it being during the week. It'll give people a chance who maybe didn't have the time/ability for the 1st round.

And if someone who doesn't have a badge tries to win, that person is a moron, plain and simple. I'll never understand people who do crap like that.

weeeellllllll, at the risk of baring the brunt of the nerd rage- i was thinking of doing the lottery/ticket pull.  If i won i was going to *give* the ticket away, most likely to a nycc mod or attending forum member- <sheepish>

regardless, since there's safeguards in place it's a non-issue for folks who wanted to help out friends like myself.
However, i've heard of some stupid stuff people do & wouldn't put it past someone to try & win a autograph tix without a badge.

We will have people print out an additional item if they weren't able to print out the confirmation page. Also...it looks like it is working again. It wasn't a traffic issue surprisingly.

Won Robot Chicken Autographs. Really wanted the Following or Persons Of Interest but didn't win those. It doesn't say what time the session is so hopefully it doesn't conflict with either Agents Of Shield Panel or the Walking Dead panel because those two panels are my top priority and since i can't give the autograph ticket away it would go to waste which i don't really want.

1) Instead of an autograph, can I have a photo?

2) Can I trade my Private Autograph ticket with someone else?

Thanks

I got Robot Chicken but if anyone has Person of Interest, I would trade.

I'm pretty sure you can't trade for a photo. I know with SOME signings, you can get a quick pic when going through the line. I did it with LL Cool J at SDCC.

You can try ONCE for each show.

1:11PM EST and I'm having no issues with the app BUT I was having issues with FOCCI.

I was talking about both.

1. I had no issues with the NYCC App being used for the giveaway.
2. I WAS having issues with Friends of CCI.

Sorry but you cannot trade an autograph for a photo op. It is up to the guest in the free private autographing to decide if they will take a photo with you from across the table. You can not trade your ticket. That will forfeit it. We will be e-mailing all of the winners directly. The winner will need to provide personal information at that time. No other person will be able to claim the ticket other than the winner. We will also be checking the list again at the door as people enter into the room.

So then if a friend won a session and wanted to give it to another friend, that wouldn't be possible? Not even trade, just give it to them?

Brian - Quick question ... I know the tickets are random but are they set to be distributed throughout the day or in theory if say 50,000 people tried at 12:01 EST would all the tickets have been given out?

BTW, I did finally make it through. I was having an issue with the link from the NYCC website that popped up when you "confirmed" your LIKE of the NYCC FB page. However when I just went direct to the FB page, liked it there, all worked fine.

@briansteez My main question is that when you attempt to win tickets for these signings does this have to link tothe same account that your NYCC badge is linked to? Beause I never linked my account to my facebook acount because it wouldn't let me log in on the NYCC page. And in terms of the email do we give you our nme and all other information in the email you send to us or is that obtained through when we win the ticket?

Thanks.

The autograph ticket is not connected to your badge in any way. We will be contacting winners with some very specific instructions. If you are a winner of an autograph ticket then you will know all of the details at that time. All of the questions you are asking here will be answered in our direct communication with the winners. The time and location of the autographing will not be announced to anyone other than the winners and the winner will not receive their ticket until just before the autograph session. I can not reveal any more than that as I don't want scalpers or anyone to try to corrupt our system.

Furthermore....for the record....I have never seen Chris Chen and Aquaman in the same room at the same time. Coincidence? I think not...

OK not to make things dificult but does that mean you could technically provide your friends name and information if you won and wanted to give it to your friend

I wonder what happens with people who won tickets but don't have a pass for the show that day. I noticed a bunch of posts on the NYCC facebook page that people said they won a autograph ticket but didn't have a ticket to NYCC for the day of the autograph session. Do those autograph tickets just get wasted now? I just see a bunch of autograph tickets going to waste this way. An onsite raffle/lottery the day of the show in my opinion would have been better. That way no one would be taking autograph tickets that they can't use.

I agree. Looks like the setup was dumb. Other thing is it's one thing to stand in line, get a ticket, and then get an autograph a couple of hours later.

But now, people will have those tickets way in advance and would be less likely to show up and thus waste a ticket.

I hope they at least have standby or something.

What I don't get is, why are people who don't even have a pass for that day trying to get these tickets?! What part of the instructions did they not understand? It's not fair for them to win a pass that they can't even use...it goes wasted. Meanwhile people who already HAVE a pass for that day don't get a ticket, and they lose out. That sucks.

Yeah, there are alot of people who realized afterwards that they didn't have a pass for the day of the signing. Others didn't even have a pass at all. Hopeing for stand by or something as alot of tickets will go to waste. I think it was just dumb to have it open to anyone. Should have had it setup so only people who had a badge for the day of the signing could participate. Though I hate standing in line but would much rather have done it that way since I think doing it weeks ahead of time will mean people will forget about the signing and thus waste the ticket.

Also wonder if people tried to get autograph tickets just so they could re-sell them? I've seen people on Facebook offering to sell their autograph ticket or to trade it.

That's the other thing. The site crashed today and at least they got it back up and running pretty quick but i worry what is going to happen if they do the walking dead autographs this way. I think the walking dead will draw more traffic to the site then all four of the signing they had today combined. Hopefully they can handle it but who knows.

I'm sure today was also a test run to prepare them for the other giveaways. The 4 they had were what I would consider medium to upper-medium in popularity. So I'm sure it gave tradablebits some insight into making sure the other rounds run more smoothly.

Also Brian did say earlier today that the crash was not a trafic issue

Hey gang! Time for my daily pop in. Here is the deal on some of your questions.

1. The Walking Dead has not confirmed if they will be doing any autographing onsite. We are talking to them but nothing is confirmed yet. If they do decide to do an autograph session it will probably be a very limited number of people like it was the last couple of years. We will distribute tickets in the same manner online as we did yesterday and everyone will know well in advance when they will have a chance to get one.

2. The problem with the site crashing yesterday was not due to traffic. We are still investigating but it looks like someone tried to hack our partners site and that is what caused the issue. This is why we were able to fix it so quickly. It is actually was a crash caused by traffic it probably would have taken longer to get things back up and running.

3. No tickets will be wasted. We have a couple of different back up plans for distributing tickets if we need to use them. We will be contacting everyone that won a free autograph ticket by the end of the day on friday with very specific instructions. If they do not have a valid ticket for NYCC on the day of the autographing they will not be allowed in the building. If you are a winner of a ticket you will receive all of the information you need this week and you will need to confirm several things with us via e-mail. If at that time they forfeit their ticket it will be put into another round of online free autograph ticket giveaways. No tickets will be wasted and we will do everything possible to get them into the hands of the people that want them. There will be no scalping of autograph tickets.

4. There is no easy way to distribute these tickets. It is simple supply and demand. If there are 100,000 people and only 50 autograph tickets there is no fair way to distribute tickets. This process while not perfect at least gives more fans a fair opportunity and getting a free autograph ticket with one of our top guests. I feel that it is a much safer and more fan friendly option than expecting people to camp out overnight outside the Javits. As difficult as it might be for some people to get to a computer or mobile phone I think it is more difficult to expect people to camp outside overnight. We have been very lucky with weather at NYCC but what if we weren't? If we were to try and give out autograph tickets onsite during the show how exactly would that work? We would have 40,000 people get in line for 50 tickets to a Walking Dead autographing and where could we do it onsite? There is no simple solution and someone will always miss out on a ticket and be disappointed. The online system at least makes it fairer for everyone.

5. This was the first time we have used this system and it was mostly successful. We will work out some additional kinks for the next round and will be announcing those soon. As far as trading and ebay goes. There will be no trading of tickets or reselling. No one will have the tickets in hand or the opportunity to sell them. We were VERY clear about people needing a valid NYCC ticket for the day of the autographing and this will be re-iterated and confirmed with people in our communications to them. They will also need to verify the number on their ticket with us. So don't worry...anyone trying to cheat the system will not be rewarded.

I hope this helps clear a couple of items up. Feel free to hit me up with additional questions anytime. Thanks everyone!

So wait, let me see if i understand this correctly. Last year i was able to get a bracelet for arrow signing and my gf got a following bracelet as we waited in line for them near the panels set up on the show floor. Is there still going to be an opportunity to do that? I absolutely despise FB and social media for personal family reasons. Is that literally the only way to get tickets for the signing?

While I didn't win, I like the random online drawing. As someone who has camped out at SDCC for Hall H and other events, I like knowing in advance my schedule so I can plan vs this unknown, maybe I'll make the cut off or not deal.

Now, I'm OK with this for "limited" deals like this when you're talking 50 spots and such. I'm less a fan when you have thousands of items, that should be first come first serve.

One difference is the line up in the morning for the tickets last year didn't have 100,000 people in line. With the online raffle, you are competing with way more people who wouldn't have bothered showing up early to get in line for the autograph tickets.

I can't say I'm sorry I won't have to camp out to get these tickets. Heck, it's gotten cold enough to snow in October before! It did in 2011, I think?  :o

Title: Re: NYCC Autograph Ticket Online Giveways Wed. Sept. 25th
Post by: YouThinkMeMad on September 27, 2013, 10:45:03 AM
The email has two information sections.

The first section is your information (the winner). Then after that there's another section where if you want to transfer it to someone you know, you supply their information as well. It's basic info (name, DOB) and your NYCC ID/Barcode #. That's how they verify I guess that you have a badge for that day.

A friend transferred her Person of Interest signing to me. I haven't received anything yet though but you had until 5PM today to send all the information back to them.

Why are they letting people transfer it? Just means you'll have more people going after tickets online they don't want since they can transfer it or sell them. I hope they don't do the online ticket raffle thing next year.
