Javits food is okay. But it's expensive.

The closest places to eat are around 34th St and 10th Ave. There's a McDonald's, Subway, Pizzeria, and a Gourmet Deli. However, those places are always packed. Especially on the weekend.

There's the Skylight Dinner at 34th St and 9th Avenue. The food and service is good here:

There's also a take-out/eat-in Chinese place around the corner. And a deli that sells pizza, across the street.

A bunch of places to eat once you get to 8th Avenue.

I swear by 5 Guys.

5 Guys rocks! Plus their online ordering makes it soooo easy. No lines! (Something I'm sure you'd appreciate during a Con.)

Any one have a close by recommendation? I will be in early Thursday, before the doors open at 3. I think it would be nice to go somewhere good/interesting for lunch before I am caught up in the con. I am staying on Broadway, so somewhere around there would be great.

I never eat at 5 guys, especially if you have ever seen the nutritional info (some of the worst in the nation). But I might reconsider if I have free time, and they take Internet orders. I would have never thought about that.

Personally I think Shake Shack > 5 Guys

There's also a decent Chinese food spot on 9th ave  between 33rd and 34th street.

Burgers and fries. Nutritional info? Pfffftttt! If I want nutrition I go elsewhere. 5 Guys tastes great! ;)

Yep, the online ordering rocks. You get to walk right in to the pickup counter. You can even order hours in advance and customize all your toppings. I think there's a mobile app for it too.

A few places off the top of my head

Gyro II - 425 7th Ave  New York, NY 10001 (right by Madison Square Garden) - quick, cheap, NY Dirty (LOL), and been there forever

Dallas BBQ - 241 West 42nd Street ( located between 7th and 8th avenues) or 261 8th Avenue
(Located on the corner of 23rd Street in the center of Chelsea) - restaurant, average price, a bit further from the con, but if you are trying to kill a night in the City and not go clubbing

5 napkin burger - 630 9th Ave New York, NY - restaurant, average price

This is not cheap or very close to the convention center but is in the area (but I love this place so much so I will give it a plug)

churrascaria plataforma - 316 W 49th St  New York, NY 10019 - nice jeans and a nicer shirt (nothing fancy), pricey (expect $100 per person if you drink), you will not leave disappointed or hungry!

Lol, yeah pretty much. I am a grab and go kind of person at cons. I try to eat in the morning (at the complimentary hotel breakfast), but might pass on everything until I leave for the day. At SDCC last year, i think i ate mostly pretzels, hot dogs, and ice cream. However, if there is nothing I want to see/do for an hour, I'll stop for something.
