G.I. Joe: Retaliation Delayed Until 2013

In a surprising move, Paramount Pictures has delayed the release of their upcoming G.I. Joe: Retaliation until March 29, 2013, a full nine months after its originally planned release date of June 29th.

Part of the postponement allows for the film to undergo a full 3D conversion.

I think that's a really bad sign for the movie. Do wonder if this means there might be something at Comic Con now? Maybe a panel with some new clips to get the buzz started again? Some exclusives?

I think it's entirely possible now to have some sort of presence at Comic-Con.  I mean, take a look at the Star Trek sequel--the producers want to be at con this year to show something to the fans, and it won't be out until May of next year.  All in all, you never know (until the Programming Schedule/Grid) comes out...

So bummed about this.  Can't believe they are delaying it almost a year.  It looked so good too.   I gotta believe this is solely for the 3D addition.  If it was a bad movie, they'd just put it out and cut their losses.  I mean - the toys are already out.  Jinx is an SDCC exclusive.  This will hurt sales for Hasbro.  This is just dumb.

It's possible there will be something at Con, certainly. And a delay isn't necessarily bad news. It could be that there are issues with filming or CGI, but that doesn't necessarily mean the movie will be 'bad'.

In case anyone was still paying attention:

According toThe Hollywood Reporter, a number of factors contributed to Paramount's cold feet.
1.Fears over competing with The Amazing Spider-Man, which opens less than a week after G.I.J:R's original release date (which … executives couldn't have anticipated that?).
2.A crappy opening for Battleship, another military-themed action movie based on a toy (which, fair enough, was sort of a surprise).
3.A rewrite involving Channing Tatum's character.

LOVED Fanboys!

The delay is a pretty horrid decision though considering all the promotional material and merchandise is starting to pop up everyone. The current issue of Maxim has Adrianne Palicki (Lady Jaye) on the cover. Oops.

saw a link that talked about the delay, test audiences had a complaint that a friendship in the GI Joe movie never developed properly, so they were adding some footage. Paramount also saw the John Carter did 200mil overseas, mainly because it was 3D so that helped recoup some losses.
