IIRC Comic-Con's website was slow on the uptick when it came to Ace Parking lotto system. I don't remember if that was in 2016 or in 2015, but one of those two years CCI was pretty awful getting info out and I believe a lot of people may have learned too late to enter the lotto.

UPDATE 3/20/17:
Ace Parking will be running the same lottery process we ran last year and the lottery registration period is now open. The only difference will be we have transitioned to a sign-up form instead of an email process. To register for the 2017 parking permit lottery, please fill out this form. If that link does not work for you copy and paste this link into your browser address bar. https://goo.gl/2Iof4U Entries for the lottery will be accepted until the 24th of April. We will hold on the lottery drawing on the 25th of April and divide the selected entries into six groups.
On May 1st the system will be opened and restricted to the people in group 1 only. Each week thereafter the system will be opened to the next group until all groups have had a chance to purchase their permits. At the end of the six-week period, the system will be opened to the general public.
Each group will have a full week to purchase their permits. Last year there were still plenty of permits available in the system when it opened for the general public. Everyone that participated in the lottery was able to get a permit for parking. We cannot guarantee a spot at any particular location and some locations are a lot more popular than others, however, all locations are within easy walking distance of the Convention Center. If you have any questions, please send them to [email protected]
Thank you,
The Ace Parking Team
Comic-Con 2017 FAQ
Q: What locations will be included in the sale this year?
A: We are still finalizing the locations and rates for this year’s sale. The list will be posted before the sale begins in April. We will send out another announcement through social media when the information is posted on this page.
Q: What is the link for the site selling the permits?
A: https://space.aceparking.com/events We are releasing the link to the site that will be selling the permits ahead of time so you will be able to get familiar with the site and set up an account in the system, if you so choose. The permits will be sold by our reservation website at space.aceparking.com. The link to the page that will be selling the permits in the system is: https://space.aceparking.com/events/. Credit cards are not stored on the site and the site is fully PCI compliant.
Q: What are the operating hours for the lots?
A: Most lots will open for drive up business at the times below, however, there may be cases when the lots open for permit holders only and do not open for drive up sales until later in the morning. Each lot is different and works to maintain a balance between the reserved spaces and extra inventory.
Convention Center, Hilton Bayfront garage, Padres Parkade, Diamond View Towers: 5am — 2am
Tailgate Park, Triangle, MTS: 5am — 2am
707 Broadway: 4pm on Friday until 6am on Saturday. Saturday and Sunday 24 hours. No overnight camping.
Q: What is the decal number field in the user account setup?
A: The decal number field is for Associates of Ace Parking Only and you can leave it blank.
Q: Do the lots offer over-sized vehicle parking?
A: No, vehicles over 18 feet will be turned away and not allowed to park even with a valid permit. Sorry.
Q: Does my permit include in-and-out privileges for the day?
A: No, in-and-out privileges are not allowed. If you leave the lot your space will become available for another drive-up customer to park in. Sorry.
Q: Does the on-line system require me to set up an account to purchase my permits?
A: Yes. You will need to setup an account during the checkout process. Your account will enable system features such as the ability to print your permit in the future, and tie all purchased permits to a single barcode that you can carry on your smart device for use at scanner equipped lots. Your account will be available for future purchases for parking at next year’s Comic-Con and other events with the same barcode assigned to you which will be replenished with future permit purchases as they are made.
Q: Will the system allow me to purchase multiple permits per day?
A: No. Each account is restricted to one permit per day for Comic-Con. If you need to purchase more than one permit, you will need to setup multiple accounts.
Q: Is there a way to purchase Comic-Con permits other than online?
A: The only way you can purchase advance parking permits for Comic-Con from Ace Parking is through the online system. However, the majority of the lots included in the online sale and others that are not included will be available for drive-up parking the day of the event. Drive up availability will be first come, first served for the remaining spaces not reserved online. The lots are expected to fill up fast. If you are planning to find parking the day of the event, you should get there early.
Q: Can cars be parked overnight? Or just during the hours of the event?
A: Overnight parking is not permitted. The lots close at 2 am and reopen at 6 am (Convention Center opens at 5 am). They close so they can be prepared for the next day. Most lots are pre-sold to full capacity each day, so any cars on the lot after 2 am, will be towed at the owner’s expense.
Q: What if I drive a different car the day of the event?
A: This year there is no need to enter details about your vehicle when you purchase your permit. The program doesn’t even prompt for them. We only request that you place a copy of your printed permit on your dashboard so it can be scanned by our lot enforcement personnel.
Q: Can I make a copy of my permit and give it to my friend?
A: No. The permits are lot specific and can only be redeemed once. If a copy is found, the vehicle will be ticketed. If you’ve copied your permit and given it to a friend, the second permit scanned will be in violation and that may end up being your car. The permits are bar coded and lot enforcement personnel will be making the rounds scanning/redeeming them.
Q: Handicap Parking?
A: ADA spaces are first come first served. The Convention Center and Hilton Bay Front are the best choices for ADA parking.
Q: Will the passes sold on-line include a fee?
A: Yes, a convenience fee will be added per permit per day at checkout.
Q: Why am I being charged a convenience fee?
A: Yes, we do our best to make pre-purchasing parking as easy as possible so that fans can reserve parking ahead of time online. The convenience fee covers resources spent on making this option available and include, web hosting, ticketing hardware, customer support, training, credit and debit card processing services, merchant fees, computer hardware and software, telephone lines, labor and more.
Q: If I send in multiple entries from multiple email accounts that I own and win one of them, can I purchase my permit with any of the emails I registered with or only the one that won?
A: Only the one that won. Your winning email address must be registered in the account you are going to use to purchase the permits. The purchase process will require you to log into your account first and will validate your email address. If your email address matches one on the selected list, you will be given the option to purchase a permit at the lot your name was drawn for. If there is no match, the option to purchase a permit will not be available to you.
Q: Can I register for the drawing with an email address that I haven’t registered an account within the permit system?
A: Yes. Accounts in the permit system are separate from the registration emails. If one of the email accounts you entered from is selected to purchase a permit, you have the option to create an account for that email address or update your existing account with that email address to qualify for the purchase option.
Q: If my entry is selected for a lot, can I purchase a permit for multiple days, or just a single day?
A: When you enter the system to purchase your permit, you will have the option to purchase permits for all five days during the show (preview night and four show days.)
Q: Can I register multiple times for the lottery?
A: Yes and no, the system will accept your entries, but the drawing will be restricted to one entry per email address.
LOCATION INFORMATION WILL BE ADDED HERE ONCE THE DETAILS ARE FINALIZED.

I sent in the following question to ACE:
With the new form - are we only allowed to sign up once? - or can we submit multiple forms using different email addresses? - even though the name, address, and home numbers would be the same.
If you are allowed to submit multiple forms and emails - is there a limit as to how many?
-

I hoping the hotel lottery will be before April 25th. How will attendees know if they need downtown parking without booking a downtown hotel? Could this be a slight hint as to when the Hotel lottery could be? Hmmm...
-
I also sent in question asking they will send out email confirmations that the forms were submitted properly - In past years, I received a confirmation email that my submission was received - This is helpful just in case of any misspellings on the email address part of the submission form.

I can't imagine this would be an issue, so many people could easily have the same name, but different email addresses.

We have a little over a week left to submit entries for the Ace Parking lottery. I added a calendar link too (better late than never...).
-
If anybody gets an extra group 1 or 2 I would really appreciate the hook up. I have about half a dozen entries my self using mine and other family emails if I get any I will be more than happy to share....

Chances are very good that we will have a parking giveaway on this site once the results go out, where people who have extra lottery spaces can give them to others who weren't as lucky.

i will confirm this. I don't quite know how it's going to work, likely very similar to last years give away. it will be in the as yet unopened 2017 Exchange area. I am anticipating opening this area up before the first lottery results arrive from ACE Parking.

No worries! This is the kind of place where many of us are 'jumping the gun' and thinking about things in advance. You are not alone!

I set up a lot of submissions using the dot(.) trick with my Gmail. Hopefully that lets me get in. Haven't been to Comic Con since 2014, so I hope I can get some good parking this time around.

How will the giveaway work? Will it be first come, first serve?
-
How will the giveaway work? Will it be first come, first serve?
no it's a lottery, folks have submitted their tickets and will be informed when and if they can buy a parking space.
-
How will the giveaway work? Will it be first come, first serve?
It's a lottery. Everyone who entered will be put into the lottery. Then they will allocate spots randomly to groups 1 through 6. You will be notified if you were in one of those groups, or if you got nothing. All of group 1 will get to buy first, then group 2, and so on. Once Group 6 is done, then all remaining spots will be opened to anyone. Each group gets a week to purchase.

Q: Do we need to log on at a certain time for the parking lotto? Or will an email be sent to us letting us know what group number we are in ?
Ace A: Once we determine winners they will be notified through email with instructions on how to purchase parking.

UPDATE 4/25/17:
The lottery registration period has ended. We will be sending confirmation emails to all valid email addresses received. The emails of those selected for the lottery will go out first, with the group not selected second. It may take us several days to get through the list of those not selected. There are over 28,000 entries on the list. We will update Twitter and Facebook when we are finished sending the emails out to those people that were selected.
-
On Ace's Facebook
Emails will start going out today with the lottery results. It may take a few days to send out all of the emails. All details will be provided in the emails.
Good luck to everyone!
-
Remember if you get two lottery positions, give one away on the forum. it's simple & we'll help everyone through it.
and
if you're unlucky, post in the parking thread here http://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/index.php?topic=7924.0 & maybe someone will have an extra position they'll give you.
As always we do not condone profiteering on badges, parking spots or hotels.

I wonder if Ace automatically eliminated entries with the same name. Because with my group we collectively submitted something like 30+ emails and so far we haven't received anything. Last year we got a couple group 1 slots right away which was exactly what we needed.
-
None of my 26 E-mails got any responses. :(
-
None of my 26 E-mails got any responses. :(
Same here, except 29. But maybe they're only sending out group 1 today and there's still hope for group 2.
-
I had over 50 emails, and nothing. :-[
-
My guess is they are still batching out group 1s.
-
Those that are getting winning confirmations - keep us posted on the groups - whether or not they reach group 6 by the end of the day.
-
Heard that they didn't use BCC so now people have 490+ emails from ACE 😂
-
I got a group 1, but the other emails I submitted have heard nothing. I think it is going out reaaaallllly slowly, in order of group.
-
Yeah looks like they did send out a message with all the emails visible (they acknowledged it on twitter). Which means if your email wasn't in that list you probably didn't get group 1. :(
Let's hope they didn't send out group 2 yet.
Still seems strange to me that several people here (myself included) submitted a ton of emails and didn't get group 1. I really didn't like that we didn't get confirmation of submission to our email addresses. I didn't trust that form and I don't really trust Ace's handling of these lotteries.
-
I just got a group 2 confirmation.

Agreed. I triple checked to make sure my emails were spelled correctly before submitting it. I'm also worried that those of us who used the same name when submitting our emails were eliminated from the drawing. :(
-

I used the same name on all the emails I submitted and just got pulled in Group 2, so I think we can say that's not the case, fortunately!
-
They specifically said one entry per email address for the past couple of years. If they are eliminating the same name with different emails as 'duplicate submissions', that's new this year.
-
group 3 going out now
-
Got Group 2. If I get one of my hotels, I will be giving up my parking. Just a heads-up!
-
Still didn't get anything.
-
This is a question for the exchange... How do I edit my post so that it says something like « Last Edit: Today at 10:41:50 am by archenemy »?
I'm sure it's something simple but I can't seem to figure it out. :-[
-
I got a Group 3! For those still waiting - I only submitted 3 emails! Now, all I have to do is remember my purchase window - for those hoping to get a Group 3 - the window is May 15 - May 21st.
In addition, for those that don't get a spot today - definitely take advantage of the Parking Exchange - I have had to use it previously and it is a godsend to forum members.
-
Woohoo! Group 1!
-
Ugggh. Nothing so far. I like how they wanted to double team with the hotel lottery to try to hurt me today.

If you go to your post, in the upper right corner are 3 buttons that say 'Quote' 'Modify' and 'Remove'. Use the 'modify' button to edit your post. Change the date of your request in your post to show that you have edited it. I'm one of the people who will be checking and removing old posts, and that's what I'll be looking for.

And now group 4 is going out

Just got a Group 4 as well. So this one definitely will be posted for exchange if someone wants it!

Looks like they'll be done in the next hour or two, at the rate they're going!

You can find instructions (both for requesting and offering) here.

But in short, the way I like to give parking spots is I make an account on Ace's site with the winning email, then send that email and the account password to the person receiving my spot. Then that person can buy their own parking and pay for it and print out the barcodes, and afterward I take back the account and change the password. You can also just give the email address to the recipient and have them make their own Ace Parking account, but then you might not get the account back afterward.
-
Just got a group 5 for the exchange.
-
Submitted 4 email addresses. Got a Group 5.
-
good odd - you should play the lottery today ;)
-
Ace didn't BCC the Group 1 email addresses and whoa - so many bots. I submitted three emails and thought I was a rebel.
-
So it turns out my nephew got into group 1 so they are set (the rest of my group still needs group 1 or 2).
But the interesting thing is in that email with the exposed addresses there was one that kept repeating. It was something like [email protected]. I think I must of seen like 30 of those with the numbers after "joey" changing. I don't know if that's legit or someone was just messing with the system. But I'm hoping whoever that is won't buy up all the convention center/hilton spots so that those who got group 3 might have a chance.

Think of it this way. If you saw like 30 that got picked for Group 1...how many times do you think Joey actually entered?! Ridiculous
-
Got a group 5 notice . What was left by group 5 last year? A vacant lot in El Cajon? :'(
-
We can assume thousands. That email address has numbers in it that start at 13xxxx, 14xxxx, and 23xxxx. But Ace didn't say you couldn't do this. So ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-

I think it was a *little* closer. try the exchange....
i assume everyone has checked they're spam filters?

Actually, IIRC, over the past 2 years (the 2 years they have done this lottery) everything except the convention center and the Hilton Bayfront lot has been available by the time Group 6 concluded.
-

I would almost hope someone would bring this to the attention of CCI - it doesn't seem like a fair way to do the lottery.
-

Yeah that's what I was thinking.
The other thing that occurred to me is -- with all those exposed email addresses couldn't anyone grab an email off that list and set up an account to purchase their permit? So for anyone that got a group 1 you might want to set up your account on the space.aceparking.com site asap. I'm probably being paranoid but I just set it up for my nephews email address.
-
Sent 6 emails, got one group 1 :) :) :)
If I am lucky and get a downtown hotel, my group 1 will be available for the exchange

Just got a Group 6 email. They must be almost done.
And yes, [member=2931]archenemy[/member] I was worried about that too. I got one of those emails, and I immediately set up the Ace parking account so no one could steal it from me.
-
I only submitted email addresses that I had ACE accounts set up for already - so I hope the one that "won" is secure.
-

They should be secure, unless you think that someone is going to guess your password just from knowing your email address. IMHO the ones that are unsecure are the ones where no Ace account has been set up.
-
Yeah that's what I was thinking.
Thank you for the advice, just did it!!

Rejection emails are going out.

Q: Have all of group 1 been emailed out? Thanks
Ace A: We are still sending out emails. We are alerting winners, then sending out emails to everyone else. It could take a few days.
-
Well they are done. I started getting sorry emails...
-
Ace didn't BCC the Group 1 email addresses and whoa - so many bots. I submitted three emails and thought I was a rebel.
I noticed that also.. LOL we know they are bots. It would serve them right if somebody just posted those emails and other people could snap them up. (assuming ace parking accounts haven't been made for each of those yet.)
-
I would love for Ace to remove all of them from the lottery but I don't think they care. :(
-

However, they have just now exposed the real hole in this whole lottery thing. if they DON'T do something about it, they're going to get a ton more of these next year.
-
Question what if we offer somebody a group. But they don't want it. (lets say we offer a group 3 but they are holding out for a group 1). Is that there decision? We just go down the list to the next one asking?

Yes. If someone refuses your offer (basically, if they don't say 'yes' then you should immediately offer it to someone else.
-
.........the way I like to give parking spots is I make an account on Ace's site with the winning email, then send that email and the account password to the person receiving my spot. Then that person can buy their own parking and pay for it and print out the barcodes, and afterward I take back the account and change the password. You can also just give the email address to the recipient and have them make their own Ace Parking account, but then you might not get the account back afterward.
Just curious, do you set up the accounts with your real personal info or just make up bogus mailing addresses and names?
-

Bogus. I have made up accounts for Rick Grimes, Bruce Wayne, Tyrion Lannister, etc. etc. etc.

Good thinking. We submitted 2 under emails but the one that won had not been used for an account before, so I just went and made an account and set the password. Also, while we did get group 1 our notification email did use bcc, so maybe they were sending them out in batches and fixed the issue before all of the group 1 emails went out.
That's what I did. Bruce Wayne has a lot of accounts opened LOL
Well he does have a lot of cars ;)

Submitted 2 emails and totally forgot about the lottery. I got a nice surprise , Group 2. The other email just got a rejection letter but we dont care cause GROUP 2 ! ;D ;D

Group 2 should still get you in at the convention center.

Got my rejection email. :( Hopefully I have better luck for hotel.
-
Out of curiosity, what will be the best parking garages available for group 3?
-

I've always used the convention center as my mailing address.

Depends how large the group sizes were this year. Last year, Group 3 did very well http://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/index.php?topic=5805.msg162827#msg162827

Thank u Steve I needed that laugh!

Just saw on twitter that a couple people got group 1 and another later group for the same email and were asking what to do. Crazy. They need to find a better system for next year. Maybe something attached to our comic con member id's.
-
What I think is funny, (and I am including my self in this comment). When people get what they want. Everything is hunky dory but when they don't and get skunked. The company is the worse thing in the world and it should go back to the flaming pits of the underworld LOL.
-
9 emails used and I've only gotten one reply which was a no.
-
Well, two e-mails haven't received group/rejection e-mails at all (1 rejection and 1 Group 4 received though) and I have no idea if my brother received a response. He's been MIA for a week so, who knows.
I saw that the twitter responded that it make take a couple days for all e-mails to fully go out, so I'll probably wait another day and worry Friday morning about the other two e-mail addresses. Generally, I assume the other two e-mails were probably rejections.
-

Totally true. Lol. But to be fair people have rightfully been complaining about Ace for a while now. Not just their incompetence but also the fact that they keep trying to raise their prices. When I started buying my parking through them I think it was less than $10 a day for the Convention Center and a little more than that for other lots. Now with the convenience fee some of those lots are $50 a day. For that cost they should invest in a better system.
-
8 emails used 3 responses, i expect rejections for the rest of them i would think.
1 group 1
1 group 4
1 group 5
-
I got a denial message :(

oh I remember those days also.. I remember when I could just drive up and get parking. Then I had to get there before 5. Then they changed it. So you couldn't park before 530. Then they went to presales and then to the lottery. (all the while jacking up the price. To where parking is more expensive than going to the con it's self.).

Base on past history, you should be able to get the Hilton garage in Group 3 if you are speedy (i.e. if you login when the Group 3 slot opens up).

However, they have just now exposed the real hole in this whole lottery thing. if they DON'T do something about it, they're going to get a ton more of these next year.
I submitted five email addresses:
One from the company I currently work for
One from the university I did grad school at
One that's gmail
Two that are yahoo
The email from my work got group 2, and the grad school one got group 3, the rest nothing. I don't really believe it, but yet I can't help but wonder if there's a connection between the rarity of the email address type and the likelihood of success...
-
Nothing for me.
-
So this is weird. I just got a Group 5 email to the same address I already had a Group 1 email sent to earlier? Anyone else had this happen?
-

Someone on twitter had it happen. Edit: It's been happening to multiple people. Ace's twitter said:
Please email [email protected] with the email address that the lottery was entered and we can let you know what group you are in.
-
Just got another no. I generally have bad luck with this lottery so I can't say I'm surprised.
-
I've seen some questions about using the same name for different e-mails and whether ACE would lump Google addresses that use the dot trick together as one single entry. I used 3 separate Gmail accounts and did the period after each letter thing (for those unaware, if you put a period after a character in a Gmail address, it registers it as a separate e-mail address but it's sent to the original e-mail. So "BruceWayne@Gmail" and "B.ruceWayne@Gmail" are recognized as different e-mail addresses but both end up in the "BruceWayne@Gmail" inbox. You can continue to do this with a period after each letter.) So I probably entered around 20-25 "different" e-mail addresses using periods after each letter of the 3 original Gmail addresses
I also used the exact same name (my actual name) each time I did this.
I received a response for every single one.
I got one group 1, two group 4's, two group 6's and then shut out for the rest.
So that means that ACE doesn't lump names together as a single entry and you can use the dot trick.

Oh, thanks for letting us know. I'm thinking that those of us who haven't still received responses to some e-mail addresses are just ones that are lagging a lot.
-
There's still a few E-mails that haven't gotten a response yet, but all of the later ones I'm getting are rejections. So of the 26, I only got one Group 3 and one Group 4.

Rejection number 3...

I'm winning on rejections.

I'm going to wallpaper my sure-to-be-in-Mission-Valley hotel room with Ace parking email rejections.

Last of my emails got rejected.

Group 5 for me

[member=2210]Berts[/member] are you able to tell which gmail dot address that they sent the email too? I would guess you would need to open an Ace account with the same spelling, correct?
I do receive a lot of mail to my gmail account for other people, but haven't figured out how it is being spelled to end up in my inbox.

I got a group six e-mail today.

Do you know if the + trick works too?
With gmail you can add + and some characters after the + and it will still go to your email.
So these would all go to [email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
...
This can be useful but sometimes systems won't let you enter an email with a + in it.

The husband received an email for Group 6. I got a rejection email.

I thankfully ended up getting a Group 2 from a friend. So I will more than likely have at least one Group 3 to offer in the exchange.

Yeah. I just looked at the address they sent it to and it shows which variation (essentially where the period is in the address)

One email still left MIA, but I'm too worried really (my brother is still MIA and he can take a nice walk or something with Group 4 if he didn't get a better Group from his parking lot.) So far 2 Rejections, 1 Group 4, and 1 MIA still (and brother's still unknown.)
-
Got an email last night saying that due to the high demand, I was not selected to participate in any of the parking sales. It's ok, though since I just did it as a back up in case we didn't get a hotel or something. Hopefully we will be able to park at whatever hotel we get...if we get one...

Anyone have any extra group 1 or 2?

"Thank you for participating in Ace Parking's 2017 Comic-Con lottery. Due to the high volume of entries received and the limited number of spaces available, we regret to inform you that this email address was not among the group selected to purchase a parking permit for the event."
Whatever. Worst case scenario, if I don't get a downtown hotel I can always use the shuttle.

Between 4 of us and 14 emails, we got zero groups.

UPDATE 4/27/17:
We have finished sending out response emails to everyone that entered the lottery. If you did not receive an email response from us you can check with [email protected] to verify the status of your entry. We did observe that about 2% of the entered email address were not valid for one reason or another, most due to typos. In those cases, it was not possible for us to respond back.
The group 1 sale will start on Monday the 1st. Please note that Ace Parking does not support the purchase of parking permits from a third party. If you choose to purchase your parking permit from a scalper, you are running the risk that the permit will not be valid and you will have lost your money. The best practice is to purchase only from our system. There are no guarantees otherwise.

Comic Con keeps working on keeping hotel costs in-line. What about the ridiculous prices Ace charges?
With their abusive process fees and day charges, if you park the whole con it almost costs as much
as your badge does.

How much are the fees?
-
How much are the fees?
I looked and couldn't find it. They state a "per permit, per day" fee. So if you have all 5 days, then you're paying fees to cover all 5 days. Maybe a couple of dollars or so is my guess? So maybe for all 5 days, the fees will equate to $15 or $20. Hopefully closer to the $15.

If I remember correctly, fees last year were about $7 or $8 per day... which, yes, is ridiculous.

I hope they don't call it a "convenience fee" like they do with things like movie tickets, that always gets under my skin :)

Just looked up my statement from when I bought two parking days for my brother at Hilton Bayfront. Looks like I was charged $7.95 per day for the tickets. It is ridiculous
[member=4270]mark[/member]
Unfortunately, they do, from the FAQ:
Q: Will the passes sold on-line include a fee?
A: Yes, a convenience fee will be added per permit per day at checkout.
A per-day convenience fee is ridiculous, especially as last year, according to my card statement, it was $7.95 each day (or something weird.)

I actually think the parking prices are pretty reasonable. The two most desirable lots (convention center and Hilton Bayfront) are $20/day. $100 for 5 days of parking at an event like this? Not bad at all. I know there are fees but even with them the pricing is still good in my opinion.

That would be totally reasonable, if they didn't double that by adding the INconvenience fee.

That's great if you park there but some of the lots are $30 and $40 a day plus service fees.
I'm just sick of Ace gauging people. I parked at the convention center one time and they asked
me if I was going to the concert at Petco or just parking. if you were going to the concert parking
was $25 otherwise it was $15. These guys make plenty of money they don't need to gauge us.

I am in Group 2 and hoping to get a spot for Preview Night and maybe Sunday. How quickly does it take for Convention Center parking spots on those two days to get sold out?

Sunday tends to stick around. PN tends to sell out earlier. I think there are fewer spots available, because vendors are in the convention center unloading on that day. But in Group 2, even if you don't get the convention center, you should still be able to get the Hilton Bayfront.

Yes, we will do that here.

FWIW as a historical data point: Two years ago I had group 3, and was able to get all days at the Convention Center except Sunday. Last year, I had group 2, and was only able to get Convention Center for Wednesday, Hilton Bayfront for the rest of the week...so it seems like they change up the group sizes from year to year.
This year I got group 5, which is unfortunately likely to be useless to me, but we'll cross our fingers...

Just putting some info out there for analysis by the forums data junkies. This is my first year attending and participating in the parking lottery. I only submitted 3 emails, and I got a group 1, and two group 5's,(and even a group 5 on the same email as the group 1??? which prompted a very quick and nervous email to Ace to confirm the group 1 was still valid). Do you think it is possible that emails submitted in previous years are somehow prioritized differently. I honestly don't remember what all was asked for on the submission form, did it ask for a mailing address? If so, perhaps distance from San Diego playing a factor? I dunno, maybe I just got really lucky, but it seems strange so many on here didn't even get selected.
Oh, just had another thought, perhaps the email services themselves playing a role? All 3 of my accounts were charter.net email accounts. Food for thought?

I think you just got really lucky, Trav. There are people who submit a lot more emails than you did and the majority are rejected.

Based on the email error for group 1, i think it would be safe to say that there is about 500+ people per group this year. However, the majority of those emails are bots. Not to mention that many people seemed to have gotten multiple confirmations for various groups on one email. Also, I don't know if it's just me overthinking it, but it also seemed like there are more people in group 1 than any other group. It's all very confusing.

Was that on their actual Ace Parking FB page? I didn't see a place where one could post to their page, only "message".
Interesting, I only noticed this today from their FAQ, indicating that there were 28,000 valid email addresses:
UPDATE 4/25/17:
The lottery registration period has ended. We will be sending confirmation emails to all valid email addresses received. The emails of those selected for the lottery will go out first, with the group not selected second. It may take us several days to get through the list of those not selected. There are over 28,000 entries on the list.

492 in Group 1
At least 83 were bots

I also received a group1 but my email was bcc'd, so maybe they fixed their error before sending out all the emails.

Did anyone get a reminder email for the group 1 sale but not an email indicating the result of the lottery? I didn't get a rejection email OR a group assignation... but did receive this today:
The sale date is getting close and this is a reminder that the sale will start on Monday morning at 10am PDT. We want to make your parking permit purchase process smooth and easy. As a reminder we want to point out the simple procedures below that you will need to follow.
1. Make sure you log into your account before you try to purchase your parking permit.
2. Make sure your account email matches your winning email notification.
3. Once logged in to the system click on Upcoming Events choose San Diego as the city.
4. Select the number of days you would like to purchase parking for by clicking on the square icons.
5. Proceed to purchase and you are done.
6. If you have any problems with the purchase please view attachment.

Did you try emailing them? This was in one announcement:
We have finished sending out response emails to everyone that entered the lottery. If you did not receive an email response from us you can check with [email protected] to verify the status of your entry. We did observe that about 2% of the entered email addresses were not valid for one reason or another, mostly due to typos. In those cases, it was not possible for us to respond back.
Doesn't sound like you had a typo but maybe they can help. I guess if you don't hear back, worth going for it just in case?
-
I also received a group1 but my email was bcc'd, so maybe they fixed their error before sending out all the emails.
I got a group 1 email where only I was bcc'd and one with the mass bcc. The one with the single bcc was time-stamped earlier than the mass one.

I sent an email to Ace Parking but haven't received a response. I like your suggestion of trying the sale on Monday just in case!

Pretty sure they take a chunky cut if you refund. I remember thinking about it and when I checked, whatever amount it was, it was enough that I was like nope bc that's ridiculous.
-
Does anyone remember how it works if you buy parking through Ace and then end up at staying at a Downtown hotel like say Hilton Bayfront or MMM? Is it cheaper the go through ace or buy the parking when you check in.
-

Will depend on the lot and the hotel. For example the Embassy Suites is $46 a day which, when you add in the fees will put it around the middle of the lot range.
However, one problem is that the ace permits aren't 24 hours and you can't have the car there from 2AM to 5AM.
This link has the prices, times, etc.

I should have a Group 6 code available to offer up...but it'll depend on how the hotel sale goes! Basically, if we get anything close to downtown, we won't need to use our backup and won't need parking.

Mark is right. Even though I often stay at the Bayfront, I HAVE to buy parking from them (which is more expensive than Ace) because I need to have my car stay there overnight. You CANNOT park overnight with an Ace permit.

Yes but reserve your spot. (http://san.org/Parking-Transportation/Parking)
It fills up quickly.
Edit: I've parked at both Economy and Long Term Parking for years (as often as every week for work). It's safe, spots are a good size, and no issues with garage or outdoor parking. I've never had issues with the staff or shuttle.

Sunday at the convention center is probably sold out because all the exhibitors fill it up so they can dismantle their booths at the end of the day.

Why would you say that? Last year, even after Group 6, most lots still had spaces available (not under CC or Hilton, but the others).

Think everything near the Con Center will be gone by Group 6, as the coveted lots are the Con Center and Bayfront/Hilton. Wonder what is left is as I have a Group 2 permit?

This year it seems ace added a few more lots. The 6th and K parkade is just right across the street. Park it on Market is a new one to the lottery this year and is easy access and a more scenic walk to con, in my opinion.

It is interesting that the Convention Center is full on Saturday at this point. The convention center has over 1,000 parking spots and if Group 1 was about 500 in number - even if they all purchased Convention Center spots, there should still be about 500 or so left for the start of Group 2. I wonder who is getting the other spots on Saturday? - or if they are using some of the space for equipment and supplies being used for the convention center renovation, or if the groups are actually larger this year that was indicated in the Group 1 emails that went out - Sunday being full makes sense because exhibitors need to get the spots so that they load up their stuff after the show closes.
-
Thanks all for sharing this great information! I'm hoping for Hilton BayFront so I'm on the request thread, but so far no dice. It sounds like based on an earlier post that maybe by the end of group 2 there might still be some spots. I'll be sure to keep checking for updates. Thanks again everybody :)

Not sure that Group 1 has only 500 emails as it would not an efficient use of their servers given 7 days period to buy. The 500 email was probably one of a few batches sent out that morning for that group. The most likely theory is that folks probably ran multiple emails and ignored other emails that won or opt to only drive in a couple of days during the Con.

I think professionals already had their own parking sale, and I'm guessing vendors too. That could be who got the other spots? Although I have no idea how many spots that would take up.

Vendors could be an issue, since Sat is probably the biggest selling day - but I have not heard of a separate parking sale for Pros, or even Press (except maybe for the local TV and radio stations), before - anyone have any info on that?

Yeah, press definitely doesn't have their own parking (except maybe as you mentioned). I'm press and I'm in with everyone else for parking.
What does an artist (who has a booth in the exhibit hall) fall under...are they a vendor or a professional? I know of at least two artists who got their parking before us.

Yes, my friend is a vendor and they had their sale the week before the lotto sale started. I was not surprised Sunday went first b/c that the big load out day for vendors.

They have a separate exhibitor application because the tables/space are smaller and cheaper. I don't know if they get parking priority though as their fees are significantly smaller than the other tiers for vendors.

Trust me, as an attendee, you don't want a Sunday permit in the Con Center. Learned my lesson last year when it took over 1/2 hour to get out the lot at 5pm. Once you are out, it was stop and go traffic on the streets
at 5mph in the downtown area. It took me almost 90 mins to get the FOCC dinner.

Congratulations!
This email confirms that you have been drawn in Group 2 of the Ace Parking Comic-Con permit lottery.
This means you are guaranteed a permit for all days of the show or any portion thereof, and will have a five day window to purchase your permits.
Your sale date is currently set to start 05/08/2017 at 10am PDT and end at midnight on 05/14/2017.
Access to the permit sale is based on your email address and it is very important that you understand that you must use the email account that received this message when registering your account in the online system. Failure to do so will result in you not being able to purchase your parking permits.
Please review the instruction document available at https://goo.gl/OI8OZZ to familiarize you with our system and the steps you will run through to purchase your permits.

I just realized what the issue was. My friend that sent me his Group 2 actually sent last years and that is why the date is wrong. So I guess I don't have a Group 2, which is really upsetting because I had been the 3rd or 4th entry on the Parking exchange but took my name off thinking I was set. :(

I doubt it, but you never know! Stranger things have happened! People have randomly seen sold out days pop up briefly. I have no logical explanation for that phenomenon.

Only if they allotted some spots for group2, which they haven't done in the pass. Maybe if some people cancelled/refunded their spot already.

I was happy last year with Hilton Bayfront parking. I think I prefer it to the Convention Center parking as it is ventilated a bit better (being outside as opposed to underground). Don't hesitate to get parking there instead.

You have to use the email that was assigned the group2 pass. You can use your account if you already have one, just change your email info. It won't work without that info. Once you've purchased it you can switch your email back to your regular one.

It can be completely made up, as long as the payment information (name, address and CC info for payment) is correct. Just print out the pass when you are done. That is all you need.

Yes, getting in and out of that Convention Center lot is pure madness! Having the Bayfront lot just to the south of the madness makes for a more pleasant trip.

So true. I was debating between CC and HB for this reason. HB is way easier to get out of. But I decided saving money for a cooler of food and being able store our stuff easily was my jam this year. .... except for sat and sunday. It was sold out, but I still would've chosen HB on those days. Friday we linger after it closes so it's not insane

They both have their advantages. I prefer Convention Center because I like easy access to my car to store purchases since all I have to do is basically go underground rather than potentially have to walk the length of the convention center and across the street to store my stuff. They both have traffic issues though as Hilton once took me over an hour to leave it one night and the convention center lot can be frustrating to get in in the morning since you're on the street waiting for them to open the door. But I do feel Hilton is a perfectly good lot to have in alternative to Convention Center, particularly if yoyu're a hall H person where the car's proximity is now much better.

Yes! This (being a Hall H person) is probably why I was so happy with it last year. Stored my floor pad, canopy, chair, etc. all in my car and could take a short walk over to put it away. Definitely different advantages for different needs :)

i gotta think Ace changed the amount of people in each group
They must've, right? I don't recall Convention Center being gone in the Group 1/before Group 2 before.
I also recall that it seems as if they make the amount of people in each group larger each year. The first year I think Convention Center parking was available the entire sales (or maybe the first 4 or 5 groups at least); last year or two (can't remember how long this has gone on) Convention Center was open during at least the beginning of Group 2. This seems like the earliest it's sold out in previous years.
I could be remembering this ALL wrong FWIW...
-
I was happy last year with Hilton Bayfront parking. I think I prefer it to the Convention Center parking as it is ventilated a bit better (being outside as opposed to underground). Don't hesitate to get parking there instead.
I my experience Hilton Bayfront is also WAY easier to get in/out of than Convention Center. I personally like Convention Center parking for days I know I'm not messing with Hall H, and Bayfront on days I am planning to do Hall H (closer to the lineup).
I park in Bayfront when I go to Padres games (when I park and don't take the trolley), and I parked there last year for the MLB All-Star Game and it's always been EXTREMELY easy to get to/out of

It can be completely made up, as long as the payment information (name, address and CC info for payment) is correct. Just print out the pass when you are done. That is all you need.
That's the clarification I was looking for, thanks!
I am now of course paralyzed by indecision between 6th and K and Bayfront ??? . I parked at 6th and K for 2015 thanks to my previous job's parking permit; I'm not too worried about the time it takes to get out of the former because you exit that structure onto 7th, which doesn't have much pedestrian activity as 6th at the beginning and end of the day. Distance seems like relative wash when it comes to unloading stuff at the car. It essentially boils down to what I want quicker access to:
- 6th and K: Gaslamp, offsites, evening extracurriculars, Petco Park, CC proper entrance (the 6th and Harbor intersection that puts you at Hall D)
- Bayfront: Morning lines, Hall H/Indigo, FX lawn, Interactive Zone, pedestrian bridge, Adult Swim, anything along the water behind the CC, easier to get in/out of during peak hours
Bayfront seems preferable if you want a quicker start to the day, 6th and K if you want a quicker end. HMMMMM...

From my experience, you can take the "back exit" out of Bayfront, hang a right, and go to the 5 ezy pzy. You skip almost ALL gaslamp & downtown traffic since you're hitting the 5 south of all of that, and the only hassle are the freeways (traffic-wise, depending how late/early you arrive/leave).

It's also possible they are offering less spots this year. Last year if you got to the Hilton lot late morning there weren't any spots left even though you had a permit and you had to drive around and around the lot. There were spots they blocked off so some people complained and it seemed to work because that didn't happen again. So I'm thinking they maybe just offered less spots this year. Not sure why they are hanging on to them.

What is the parking capacity of 6th and K vs the Hilton Bayfront?

What is the parking capacity of 6th and K vs the Hilton Bayfront?
According to parkopedia:
HB is 1,300
6th & K Parkade is 1,230

Keep in mind that a good chunk of the Bayfront lot of reserved for guests of the hotel.

What is the parking capacity of 6th and K vs the Hilton Bayfront?
6th and K has appx 1000, but there's a chunk of spots that are permit use, so the availability of spots is around 600-650(ish).
Hilton Bayfront has appx 1800 spots, I'd make an estimate that about 1000 spots available for non hotel guest parking. Not exact numbers, but from my observations.

Hopefully, between HB and 6th and K, there might be enough spots for Groups 2 and 3.
-
It's 10:00 am PDT and I'm in Group 2, but not seeing SDCC parking on the events page. Anybody else?
Click events, it will ask you for a city, pick San Diego and you will see Comic-Con parking.

I think you should be fine. I can't remember what year it was but I was in the last group and got HB. Can't be the first year they did the lottery cause we had someone drop us off. So it would've been last year. Or I'm too old and the years blend. But I could've sworn we got one or two days at HB last year (probably Thursday and/or Sunday). I think I was even in the open sale last year.
If the numbers in the groups are larger, that will change things. But you should be good for at least PN, Thurs, and Sunday

Has anyone else purchased parking and NOT received a e-mail confirmation/receipt? I had group 1, purchased my days, printed out my barcode but was never sent a receipt or confirmation of charge.

I received an email for group 1 but my friend did not receive an email for his group 1.

Yep - that's why Bayfront is a close second in my books. As much as I love parking right below the convention for a slightly shorter walk in the morning, I also love not sitting in traffic on the way out!
btw, I posted in the exchange thread, but if anyone has a parking spot to spare, I would really appreciate it! ;D

This is the primary reason I get dinner following the convention day in teh general area. The lot exit is horrid (though slightly better if you exit out the side that faces the Mariott) but if you wait till after dinner it's usually a lot smoother.

How is Group 2 faring so far this week?

This annoys me... That's why i really not into Ace Parking when they decided to do their crappy lotto thing...Haven't got into any of the buying groups for the last 3 years ever since.. I really need to consider creating more accounts and emails.

Yikes! Waaaaay overpriced, plus there's no security. That guy could sell his paper 100 times and you wouldn't know it until you got to the convention center garage only to find out that the code had already been scanned.

I just want to confirm that you can purchase a different parking location for each day if necessary on a single purchase - For example: I could purchase three days at HBF and two different days at 6th and K if needed on the same purchase. If so, will you be prompted to print out two confirmation pages - one for HBF and another for 6th and K (or three pages if you choose three locations - all on different days, of course?).
-
Ugh, that ebay stuff is just gross. Someone's selling a Group 3 lottery spot for $150, advertised as Convention Center parking.

Yes. You can buy for different locations on different days in one purchase session.
You can choose to print all on one page (they will cross off the day once used). OR you could choose to print them out separately (combined location or one for each day)

I never got a chance for a permit. but I need overnight anyways since I will be using shuttle or uber to and from my hotel so I can line up in hall H. My hotel is public parking so I don't want to take a change on hoping theres spots when I got there so I chose to park at the airport, much cheaper.

Never got parking group over the last 3 years, hoping there is still close parking available when it opens up to everyone

How is Group 2 doing going into the weekend?
I just received my email reminder from ACE that my Group 3 purchase period starts Monday - but at the end of the email there is this sentence:
If you have any problems with the purchase please view attachment.
My question is - What attachment? There wasn't any in the email - or are they referring to something else?

I know. That had already been established earlier in the thread. I meant nothing had sold out or changed since the sale opened on Monday.

So I just purchased a permit in Group 2 using someone else's account (thanks, parking request thread!). Not that I expect them to do any funny business, but if I try to make another purchase for parking on a non-SDCC day and get to the Enter Billing Information page, it shows the CC I used on the SDCC purchase in ***********1234 form, along with a "Use previous stored credit card information" box that's automatically checked.
That is not ideal, to say the least, especially when their FAQ (https://www.aceparking.com/comic-con/) says "Credit cards are not stored on the site and the site is fully PCI compliant." Is there a way to remove this that I'm not seeing?
-
So I looked a fair few pages back but haven't seen (I think) anyone confirm what the convenience fee for each parking pass/day is? I'm thinking it is $8/day from someone's post, but I'm not sure if that was a rounding up number or an exact. I'm mainly just curious as I'll be buying parking passes for my brother tomorrow morning, as he's going to be at work.

The permit I purchased for the brother at the Hilton Bayfront charged $7.95 service fee per day.

No problemo. I guess we're both running point for our brothers although I will say he's step up his Con game from years past. ;)

I'm in the same situation and didn't notice that they had kept my CC information. You can change the email address on the account to your own. That way you only have access to it and the person who gave you theirs can now use that email address. I couldn't find another way to do it. :( Have you emailed ACE about it?

I sent a note to Ace this morning, but haven't heard anything back from them yet.
-
Just change the email to your own and change the password so the account is yours. This is how I told the people I have the emails to. I told them just to use that email to make their account and once they got their parking to change the email to their own. There is no need for the person giving the spot away to even make the account. Just give out the email address and let the person you gave it to handle it all from there.

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
Edit: Going to update this because it initially showed the Convention Center available some days and then updated immediately. But I took the capture on getting in so Con Center is not available at this time unlike as the initial capture said. I tried buying the Convention Center immediately out of curiosity but it wouldn't allow me though. At least one other member saw the same thing AND was able to buy those days. I think there were only a handful of passes were available.
Edit2: New image taken as of 10:15 AM PDT, as far as I can tell it's the same inventory that was available for purchase as of 10:00 AM PDT. Aside from the few Convention Center parking spaces that were open. They might have been returned passes though.
Edit3: And written table added in as well under a spoiler as well.

I just got 5 days at the Hilton Bayfront!
-
I didn't expect this to happen, but I was group 3 too and actually did get convention center for 4 of our days. I logged in early and kept refreshing so I was in almost immediately. But in seeing and hearing from others, I must have just gotten lucky as it doesn't seem to be available for others.

I had emailed Ace Parking about the stored credit card information and I was able to get them to remove it from my account.
There doesn't seem to be an online way to do this, though.
-
That is really weird about the change in spot status at the convention center between last week and this week. I wonder if they held spots back or they got an updated number in the vendor demand?

Awesome! I'll e-mail them to do the same. Like I said, I'm not too worried about it being used, but it seems like a huge flaw/oversight in their system for the information to be automatically stored without asking first.
EDIT: Did you e-mail them at [email protected] or use the Space contact page (https://space.aceparking.com/site/contact)?

Yeah it's really weird, I saw the Convention Center available as well on initially logging (I clicked right at 10:00 AM PDT according to an atomic clock) but it didn't allow me to buy and Convention parking spots when I clicked immediately for it. I was mainly testing it out though, to see if it would work, because as I'm at the Bayfront for my hotel room it'd be more convenient for my brother to meet me there from the Bayfront parking lot when we're meeting up. Plus it's easier for him to get out and to the 5 compared to the chaos that is the convention center.
Edit: I just realized that maybe people cancelled parking spaces in the convention parking lot, so maybe that accounts for why there seemed to be a few going around for those days.

Once again thank you for lending the e-mail and info to me the Group 3 parking! Just a warning, I also encountered (and double-checked to be certain) the issue where Ace automatically stored my CC information. I looked to make sure there wasn't an option to check (and make sure I would uncheck it as such) a button if you wanted to store your information. There wasn't anywhere on the buying screen etc. as I could find, so they're just doing it by default (at least for some of us.)

I definitely agree, I just had that happen to me and I double-checked to make sure there wasn't an option to click to save your info on the buying page etc. It is a huge oversight/flaw as anything that could potentially store your card information etc. should absolutely ask permission. I also don't think they did store it last year, at least not automatically if I remember correctly.

[member=1256]Iris_aya[/member] Yes,someone else told me that as well. I'm going to make sure the account owner emails Ace and asks for the cc information to be removed.
It's annoying, because last year there was just a checkbox that asked if you wanted to save the cc info. Sigh...

Yeah I remember that being a thing :/ according to my own Ace account (I think I did it for a friend one year and apparently I still had the info for logging in saved) they switched payment servers in the last year, so maybe that's why it changed. So annoying that it's doing that now unlike in past years.

It's possible people canceled who got Group 1, and then got a hotel w/parking and didn't need Convention Center so by the time ACE processed them it was this am

No, I had to email them again and then was redirected to their SDCC email. But they eventually removed it. My billing information is still there too.

Thanks for the heads up on the way they're storing payment info for some of us this year.
So now I will use my Disney Visa card as payment since I was planning on closing that account in a few months anyway.

I loaned an Ace account to a board member for Group 2 and his CC info had been saved in the account. I emailed Ace and they replied within a couple of hours telling me to log in to make sure the CC info had been removed, which it had. Thanks for the warning!

I purchased parking on Monday as part of Group 3 and, according to ACE transaction process my credit card went through and I printed out my Parking Pass(s) - but it is now Wed and my online banking account still shows the transaction as Pending instead of completed - Is anyone else seeing this? Would this be an issue with ACE or the bank?
It just seems odd that it would take more than 2 days for the transaction show completion on the banking end. Just want to make sure that I don't lose my parking purchase due to some ACE glitch - and my parking pass(s) become invalid.

3-5 business days is typical. Even up to 10 for some. It could be either merchant or bank side. I would not stress out about it. It's also still early in the day.
ACE customer service is pretty accomodating if it weren't to go through. Thoug I'm sure it's fine

I wanted to do another update on how the Group 3 is going, for anyone who hasn't bought yet or Group 4 to keep them updated! From my comparison, my previous update on the inventory is still true. However, I can't see the Bayfront Parking Garage Thursday and Friday because I bought this days. So please let me know if those days are now sold-out and I'll update this!

Hopefully [member=823]RSilvaConFan[/member] sees this, I had to edit it in.
It might be your CC servicer/bank, on their end, but mine is still pending and I bought at about 10:02 AM PT on Monday due to making sure to take a screenshot properly. However, I made a purchase on Amazon the same day with the same card and roughly the same time (birthday present) and it's also still pending. The gift has already shipped out and I printed to save into my files for my brother. So I wouldn't worry too much about it taking a couple or more days. Either way, you have proof, if you saved your passes, that you bought them.
Edit: As of 6:53 PM PT, both of the transactions just moved out of pending.

You know, I just realized 6th & K Parkade at $15. That's amazing and so close. It's right across the street from the Omni and right next door to the Hard Rock.

Yeah, I'm curious as I'm pretty sure I parked there on Preview Night one year and it was definitely more expensive for a day. I think it was $20/day + the daily fee, when the "convenience fees" were only $5/day.

I'll just requote my earlier post here, because I had the same exact debate:
HMMMMM...
I ended up going with 6th and K. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw they added it to the pre-sale this year, as I was prepared to do Bayfront like most people. The tiebreaker for me was based on my past experiences: I envision myself spending a lot more time during the day closer to 6th and K, because there are so many more popups and offsites closer to that versus Bayfront. I know I'll make a lot of pit stops so it'll be a lot more convenient to drop stuff off or reload there vs Bayfront when it comes to coming and going from, say, Horton Grand Theatre, dinner, a Conan taping, Conival or Nerd HQ (at least last year...). The upper levels can also provide a nice view (if you're tall enough) of the surrounding areas (Tin Fish, Hard Rock, Omni, Petco Park, etc.)
I don't really do overnight waiting or super early arrivals, which is where I think Bayfront has the clear advantage if that is your priority to get a good spot in the Hall H or Everything Else lines.
As for traffic, if I arrived by 8am or left no earlier than 9-10pm, pedestrian and vehicle traffic was not a huge issue. If you arrive or leave in peak hours, then it might be a crawl.
Last year, I parked elsewhere, but I remember noticing a sign at 6th & K for Con drive-up parking that was $15. I'm not sure if that was for the whole day (I remember something indicating it might have only been for 12 hours?)... however, I know from my time parking there for work that 6th & K rarely goes above $15 for the normal daily rate or any Petco Park event, which is shocking considering its location; they were charging $15 even on the day of the MLB All-Star Game.

Group 4 next week, then Group 5 after that...

I stayed at 6th and K last year. It was $15 for 12 hours and $30 for 24 hours meaning you can keep your car there overnight. We choose to keep our car there because we were staying at the marriott right in front and this was a cheaper option than hotel valet parking. Also, the prices and hours are staying the same this year.

I'll try to update this with a later/confirmation update with what the inventory looks roughly like tonight for the Group 4 people!
As for now, the inventory has been staying pretty static, in terms of what days are available for each parking garage. I don't believe it's changed since the start of Group 3 (May 15, 2017 at 10:00 AM PT) other than the few Convention Parking Garage being available in probably just a few handful of badges most days. That may happen again tomorrow, for a few people, depending on returned badges and if they're taking the weekend to add any refunded parking passes in for Group 4 and not just immediately adding them into the current pool.
As always, it shows P for Hilton Bayfront in the screenshot for Thursday and Friday as I bought those days for my brother. However it still stands that from what I know/have heard those days are still available for purchase as of now.
-
I wonder if the addition of 6th and K this year into the pool is taking some of the demand off of the Hilton Bayfront.

For saving $5 it may be worth it to some folks. I thought about it but opt for Bayfront as getting out of downtown in the evening is probably easier.
-
Good luck to the Group 4 people tomorrow!
-
I can't do a final update as I don't have access to the list anymore, but I assume it hasn't changed much from my last post in here as it didn't change all week.
Good luck to Group 4 and I hope you get what you need. Remember that there is a slight chance of a new set of the convention center being available if you click right at 10:00 AM PT according to an atomic clock. I wasn't able to buy them but at least one forum-goer was able to, so keep that in mind! Also we have no idea how quickly or slowly the lots you may want will go, so earlier is better ^^
-
The Hilton Bayfront was sold out for Saturday when I just bought my passes.
-
[I swear I just hit post on this and it never popped up... but I'll keep an eye on it just in case it pops up as a duplicate. O.o At least I kept a version of it.]
So I just realized I also have an account with access to Group 4, but didn't realize it until just now. So I can give a quick update on the current inventory-ish. [On that note, I do have an extra Group 4 if anyone needs to buy passes as no one else has posted in the exchange forum.]
Main changes from yesterday: Thurs-Sunday are sold out at the Bayfront Parking Garage, also 6th & K has sold out on Friday.

I was worried that none of the closer lots would be open in group 4. But grabbed spots at the Hilton and 6th Ave lots. So overall, this helps with my disappointment at not getting a downtown hotel.
As of May 22nd, I'm done with the logistics of just getting to SDCC. Now I can focus on what to do there!

I think so, I was originally going to go for Hilton, but I'm not a hall H person, so I went with 6th and K. They are pretty much the same distance and I'd like to think I left an open spot for someone in a later group that might want Hilton .

I don't know if anyone's tried that, but I imagine they'd be amenable? Especially because the Bayfront will just go back into the batch next week (or even this week.) So e-mail or call them.
Here's their contact info if you want it in one place:

Okay, another update on the Group 4 Inventory, there's been some change since Monday, so I might go ahead and do another update tomorrow if it changes between now and then.

Hey there everyone,
I am just wondering (as I missed out on being picked for the lottery) how quickly parking tends to sell out once released to the general public? When they are released at 10am, this is 3am in Australia where I am. I am just wondering whether if I purchased parking at 8am in Australia (so 3:00pm in San Diego) whether parking will be available?
Thanks!

Hey, so I've never tried to buy once it opens to the general public, but I don't see you in the Parking Exchange list. It's been a bit slower for being checked off, maybe because members have fewer spots left at this point, but there still is a chance to get a Group 5 or 6 parking spot, from one of the forum-members before it opens to the public.
You can find the link to the Parking Exchange Thread:
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
Just read through the instructions, follow the format, and post to that thread and hopefully someone will be able to give you an account to buy during the group stages.
As I don't know about the General Sale and what kind of inventory is still available (and I can't access the current inventory to update this atm), hopefully someone else will have an idea to answer your general question.

I think even in July there was still a ton of parking available: not from the best/closest/cheapest lots, mind you, but there was still a lot of parking in past years well after the general sales hit

To confirm -- parking lottery aside -- Ace is indeed setting aside a certain amount of parking spots each day in each of their locations for "drive-up" parking, too?
Meaning a non-lottery winner might still be able to secure a parking spot underneath the convention center each day (of course getting there very early to do so)?

Q: Is there a way to purchase Comic-Con permits other than online?
A: The only way you can purchase advance parking permits for Comic-Con from Ace Parking is through the online system. However, the majority of the lots included in the online sale and others that are not included will be available for drive-up parking the day of the event. Drive up availability will be first come, first served for the remaining spaces not reserved online. The lots are expected to fill up fast. If you are planning to find parking the day of the event, you should get there early.

personally i would view trying to get a underground spot the days of sdcc as a huge long shot.

Ditto: especially since we have no idea how many spots there might be for drive-up. Parking, traditionally, was always the #1 thing that gave me anxiety about Comic-Con. Even when SDCCI didn't sell out, parking was still quite a pain to secure downtown, especially during the week/business times. If it were me, and I didn't already have pre-purchased parking, I would jump on the best I could get now. After more than 15 years of attending SDCCI, words can't express how nice it feels to get up in the morning, know exactly where I'm parking, and not have to think about that type of think (more brain cells to think about what I'm doing that day instead).
Just my thoughts, and there are plenty of adventurous folks who will wait for parking and get OK spots. I know from other friends and family, however, that waiting until the day-of has often meant "I found some parking but I have to feed a meter every couple of hours" or "I found a spot but only until 1pm, then I have to move the car somewhere else until 6pm, and then I have to move it one more time for evening rates." That was from just a couple years ago. Parking is crazy, and last-minute parking is crazier/more expensive typically.

Not happy at all with 6th and K. Location is great but upon scanning my pass yesterday, the attendant said it was good for only 12 hours and that each extra hour would be an additional $1. It should be mostly a wash compared to Bayfront or CC if I stay over 12 hours, but I am really irritated the 12-hour limit wasn't clearly indicated in the ace Parking FAQ, the pass's fine print or at any point during the purchase process. I know the attendants can't really do anything, but I emailed ace parking just to vent a little.

That strange because a friend came to stay with us on Friday night and parked there and didn't leave till Sunday night and was only charged $30.

When it happened to me again on Thursday morning (the 12 hour warning), I immediately sent off an e-mail (okay, it was more of a rant) to Ace Parking. Happy to report they quickly wrote back and cleared it all up and there was no further bad information being passed on by the garage attendants the remainder of the weekend:
Thank you for reaching out as this brings up an opportunity for us to reaffirm policies with our team. The 12-hour restriction you are mentioning refers to the rate structure for the garage on normal days but not during Comic-Con. Your Comic-Con permit allows you to park in the garage from 5 am until 2 am. You should not be charged at all during that time. If you are, please let us know. Comic Con Permit holders will need to exit the garage prior to 2 am and are more than welcome to return to the garage at 5 am.
We have counseled our location team to make sure they understand that the 12-hour time frame does not apply to Comic Con permit holders.
Sincerely,
The Ace Parking Team
Now I seem silly for ranting and raving earlier in the thread :P

Not exactly silly, because the attendant there should have known the policy because well... they're literally manning the lot for a huge event and should probably know what's changed. I'm curious as to whether whoever it was missed the briefing on it, missed a message, or something like that on Ace's end instead.
