I've never used Ace Parking. If I'm going to be at a hotel that charges for parking, does Ace generally work out to be cheaper?No. Ace Parking lots close at night. Anywhere from 12AM -3 AM. You aren't technically supposed to stay overnight or they can tow your car if they want. The lots open back up around 5 AM.

That's a great idea. In 2018 I stayed at The Republic and found a long-term lot that was cheaper than the hotel valet parking. Considering that I drive down on Tuesday or Wednesday and don't see my car until I load it with dirty laundry and swag on Sunday evening, it just makes more sense. I was wondering if Ace was the solution, but it clearly is not.

Oh! Thank you for letting me know. I've only had to personally deal with a refund once, and it wasn't even for myself, and it happened to be a partial one so I never thought to look into those rules any deeper.. I would say it was around 2017 too. Well, I guess I'll just have to figure out if it's worth it going on Wednesday and dealing with going through getting a parking pass (granted, I'm local so there are more options that way too.)

Generally no. Alyssa mentioned it earlier, but all Ace Parking Ragnarok obtained parking passes are only good until usually 2am (it's possible certain lots have different end times.) You cannot park overnight with them, so if someone has a downtown hotel that offers parking, that is a 24 hour parking slot and you wouldn't have to move your car. There are alternatives to parking at your hotel too, that can be cheaper, like parking structures near the airport that have 24/7 security etc. that can be cheaper etc.
I'm, and probably others who have a downtown hotel, only participating because I potentially need a day where I am not staying at a hotel. I'm local, but stay in the gaslamp Thursday-Sunday with my out-of-town friends and because I usually camp, but in the past and this year I'm doing Preview Night. So, if I drive I'll need a Wednesday parking pass somewhere. There are also people who are trying to grab passes for friends etc. who may already have downtown hotels too (I often do it for my brother.)
Look up your hotel's policies regarding parking as well as pricing for it (which can change during the con sometimes.) Some downtown hotels only have valet parking and things like that. You probably don't need to participate in this though!

Honestly, the timing of them felt a bit weird. I checked the junk for all my emails on my phone, found two of the emails that went to junk. I check my junk folders basically daily, and if not that at least 2-3x a week, and I didn't find the third confirmation in junk until about a week after I saved the other two emails.

If I recall correctly from 2019, you can pay with any credit card and not the one associated with a winning entry. If that's still the case, FYI, the Ace form accepted my entries where I used my FSA/HSA and unemployment debit cards.they didn't accept my target red card LOL

fIn 2019, I got my emails on May 6. Looking back at the 2019 parking thread on this forum, it said lotto was on May 6. So for 2019, emails and lotto were the same day.

Man, this was the worst parking lottery year for me. All of my submissions were rejected. If anyone has any extra group 1 or 2, I would really appreciate it. I usually bring all the sun shelters and chairs for my line group, so this really throws a wrench into the plans. =(

I was surprised they accepted my VCC. Since anyone can make those at will, if someone was serious they could flood the system with hundreds if not thousands of entries.

Thanks to those that replied. Even though I didn’t get confirmation emails I did get the results emails. A little bummed and kinda shocked I didn’t get any groups out of any of my entries. At least one of my sisters was lucky in getting one.

Which must be what they meant since that's really the only rule for parking at Balboa Park, no parking between 2am-6am. Which is similar to the restriction Ace has for parking in it's lots. So in that regard, why would it matter to people in this thread looking for "daytime" parking?
To anyone curious, here are the rules for parking at Balboa Park. Really it's only this rule. The other rules are for the streets because of street cleaning.
"Vehicle parking is prohibited in Balboa Park parking lots from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. daily (SDMC 63.02.21) with the exception of Marston Point parking lot. Parking in Marston Point parking lot is not permitted from sunset to 7 a.m. daily and 10 a.m. on Thursday for maintenance."

The wishful part of me is hoping they allotted more spots to the public sale and that those who were selected in groups 1-4 have a better chance of getting a close lot this year. But it is wishful thinking. My group submitted probably double the amount of entries as in 2019 and had less success this time (got a couple group 2s last time). So, I too, am curious where did all the spots go.

I was surprised they accepted my VCC. Since anyone can make those at will, if someone was serious they could flood the system with hundreds if not thousands of entries.
You know, I remember hearing about VCC, but when I tried to generate one a year or so ago, I think all the credit cards I checked said that although they used to do them, they had stopped providing them, so maybe they're not that accessible anymore?

Thanks! I'll have to check it out. VCCs seem like a pretty good idea but I've never had any experience with them so far.

Sale doesn't open to group 1 until June 20th, so we still don't know the convenience fee. If I'm recalling right though, it was like $7/day at one point though (or am I mixing this up with something else... I feel like it's pretty steep though considering.)

Don't i have ever been skunked this bad before by ACE. I really think they held back parking for the general sale. Its the only thing that can explain how so few people seem to get anything. I also remember during the last SDCC parking sale even group two was getting under con parking which had never happened before.It's hard telling: sometimes a lot of people on a forum just get cruddy luck. Sometimes I've gotten really lucky w/this, sometimes I strike out. This year I've unfortunately struck out: I hope that I get lucky with help here, especially with a little one who plans his whole year around Comic-Con (down to outfits!).

I haven’t used Ace Parking with a rental car before, does the purchase site ask for make/model or car and license plate? What would you enter for a rental car?
We went in a rental car one year and it was no problem. I believe they do ask you for details about your car, but I just listed our usual vehicle and figured I would explain it to the parking attendant if they asked. But no one ever questioned it.

To follow up on this, their FAQ says that once you know the car info to update the car info in your online SpACE account/website. I'm pretty sure I ended up using a different care one year than one I registered with and it wasn't questioned at all though. It does seem a bit ridiculous with the number of people who come in from out of town and may not know what license plate until the day of sometimes...

ace has changed their formula. We just need to figure out the new formula. The spaces won't go empty, the question is how will they be distributed.

Wonder if that is more of a reflection of the amount of people looking for parking or that people are finding ways to spam the site. I honestly can't see it being the true amount of people as they still do drive up parking sales on those same lots during Con.

ik, the numbers of spaces for sale before covid aren't reconciling with the numbers of spaces being sold. That amount shouldn't have changed much UNLESS there is a reallocation of groups/& general or drive up sales.

The lots up for use during SDCC have always been more or less the same. Tho I will add that two of the lots that were used 15ish years ago are now rented out for outside events, but that has been happening for years now.

I'm pretty sure that they'll be open spots, remember you needed a credit card to enter the lottery, and that's why it might be hard for someone to help out another person/ stranger. I did in previous years when it was just an email address, but having a credit card on file makes it more difficult. Just my opinion.it's not so much about helping out other people, but more about the shear quantity of wins to entries.

I struck out entirely too. Submitted 12 entires between me and my roommate and first year all entries were rejected for no groups not even a 3 or a 4. Weird.

General sale starts like monday before con so that is kind of rough time wise but it should be something open. If you need to park offsite and trolley is most major trolley stops have park and ride space.

I can't remember a time when there weren't any lots available after the groups finished, and sometimes there was even Hilton Bayside if you were set to go as soon as they opened it up to everyone.
Alternatively, before I knew anything about the lottery, I think I used to just park in whatever lot I could find that day that wasn't exorbitant and then took the shuttle in from whatever the nearest stop was, if it was far away.
There will still be lots open after all the groups go through it just won't be the ideal lots everyone wants.

Before taking the Trolley every year, I used to park on the street. San Diego's version of skid row is not that far away from the convention center. People tend not to park there. I never had a problem. But that was a few years ago. I also used to walk through the Tenderloin up in SF at all hours of the night. I don't think I would do that now.

I think underground parking generally sells out fast. Not sure if any were left for group 2 in 2019 but Bayfront was available in group 2. I can't recall what was left for group 3.

Because a lot of spots are taken by people living in the condos/luxury apartments so they are less available comparatively. As for why people chose to buy there over the others first idk especially since its $5 more than 6th and k which is also closer.

You have to remember that 2019 was the year that everyone who had a group could log in on day one despite what group you had as well. Typical Ace shenanigans!I think that was 2018? 2019 was the year group 1 sale opened early. But I recall reading posts that it was still mostly limited to group 1 only. But yea, we can probably expect some shenanigans again.

I just poked around the ACE site & added a Tuesday before con to my cart. The convenience fee was $0.95 cents. Lets hope that stays the case. Hopefully someone who buys for Group one will let us know.

PSA - Do not inadvertently click the Request Refunds button on the Purchased Reservations page. It'll immediately cancel without giving a confirmation prompt first (such as "Are you sure you wish to request a refund?"). I panicked a bit but was thankfully able to get on the phone with someone at Ace who was able to void the refund and restore the pass.
I e-mailed them suggesting they should really add a pop-up prompt or confirmation page to the Request Refunds button. An easily avoidable stress point.

So how do people keep drinks cold in their car all day? I usually take an ice chest down with me from LA, but then the hotel refrigerators don't have freezers, so I can't use my ice packs after the first day.
Hotels usually have a ice machine you can use to refill the chest.

Yeah that what I've been doing in the past. But I think for those of us from outside of SD usually decides a month or so away.
Because the problem gets worse closer to the date, because then we worry for a place to stay and flights (which then gets extremely expensive :).

All Convention Parking is still open for all days, and remember you can only buy passes once, even it's only 1 day, when you purchase you can't go back in and try to get another pass for another day.

No. Ace Parking lots close at night. Anywhere from 12AM -3 AM. You aren't technically supposed to stay overnight or they can tow your car if they want. The lots open back up around 5 AM.
In the past they closed from 2am-5am.

So say you're in group 3

it'll take you to the a page to select lots and days. There will be an option to 'select all' but you can just select one
add it to your cart
continue shopping
go back to that page via their links (I wouldn't recommend using the back button)

I founded this place so people could 'pay it forward'. Do something nice for someone, & someone usually will come around & do something nice for u.
It's not a straight trade but a 'building good Karma' type of thing. Pay it forward, if you will. It's what the Hotel exchange was built on.
Honestly, it was an experiment that paid off. There's pleanty of stuff to take advantage of on this site, information being the primary stuff. But meet ups, line groups etc.

Had a small hiccup at checkout because I was using my brother's Mexican credit card (which he used to sign up for the lottery) and the system wasn't accepting his address. It kept saying it has to match the address listed on the card (obviously), but the boxes on the website aren't tailored to enter international addresses. At the end I decided to use my American card instead ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Many folks here I've gotten the pleasure of meeting over the years, especially when I joined a line-up group five or so years, and everyone I've met in real life has been just as cool as they are virtually. I've scored parking, 4-day w/PN badges (before I recently achieved pro status), countless exclusives and swag, head's up on awesome events, and just about everything else one could imagine over the last 10 years thanks to folks on this group.
Fandom has gotten rather toxic online over the years, but there's not much of a hint of that around here. FOCC is the community many wish other corners of the internet could be: respectful, cordial, helpful, generally fun.

I just wanted to give a huge thank you to @Alyssa for helping me get parking; I'm a local, and now I'm a Pro, so the biggest worry for me is securing parking for myself, wife, 7 year old, and college kid (obvs one 'slot,' not 4, but we all carpool - just wanted to clarify in case anyone was wondering "wait - HTF did Alyssa get 4 parking slots?!?! :P ).

There's a fine line between controlling speech and requiring respect for others opinion. It's a fine line and hard to define at times.
I'm hopeful fandom is able to return to a less toxic stance. I suspect once we can meet again in person & see the differences are less then imagined while sitting at a keyboard, we might return to a happier time.
At least franchises realize conflict among fans is counter productive.

It seems that everything is still available EXCEPT Convention Center Parking which is down to only Preview Night availability as TJ noted earlier. The letters on the line after the cost per permit designate which days are available (most are W-SU of course.) It might be good for someone to check in on it before Group 4 opens up, just in case it shifts significantly during G3.

It sounds like Ace's system is down. I'd keep trying every 15-30 minutes, and once it goes through, carefully check your card activity to see if they charged you multiple times. If so, put a hold on the payments with your cc company and then call Ace.

It sounds to me like they are dividing up the available spaces in each venue across the groups - this means that more people in each group have a chance to get good spots???

iirc, thursday-sun were sold out undercon.
it's doubtful they got that many returns to keep the undercon spots avalible for 5-10 min after it went live this morning.
therefore it does indeed seem as tho ACE held some back for groups 2-3-4
anybody dispute that?

Yep, you just show them the ACE barcode when you enter. There's usually a parking attendant. Show them the barcode and they'll scan it. There are some spots that are blocked off for hotel guests so just follow the signs.
I usually like parking on the same floor as the pedestrian bridge.
I forgot how it works when you leave as it's been so long. Might be motion sensor where the parking gate arms go up?? I forget.

I also doubt they will oversell parking. They usually don't. If they have extra spots, they'll just sell them the day of.

I wish I could help someone out with a winning lottery email, but it's connected with a credit card, so that's not going to happen. But the Hilton parking is second best spot and cheap compared to all other spots. So good luck last remaining attendees looking for parking.

Due to only being able to attend Con as a volunteer and other personal matters that have taken most of my time, I kinda put Comic Con on the back burner. Now Con is upon us. Is it possible to get last minute parking via Ace or the hotels? I am not really familiar with all this. The few times I have gone to Con, I have lived downtown, but now I live in the LA area. I am planning to stay at a friend's house who still lives in San Diego, but will be driving to Con.The general sale is tomorrow morning at I think 10am

its nice for after you do parties or bars at night but if you are trying to haul stuff from the convention center its meh crossing harbor is kind of a pain. Its not horrible but not amazing.

You also don't have to book the same lot for all 4 days. I believe you can split them (just don't check out until you're done adding every day).

Thanks I've tried that but their website doesn't seem to allow refunds anymore. I'm going to try to call Ace because they didn't respond to my email.
If they don't allow refunds at this point, then I've got 4 day parking for Hilton Bayfront (thurs - sun) available for anyone that needs it. Selling it at cost.

On Wed, the parking attendant told us to put our barcodes on our dashboard because they were towing but no one else mentioned that on subsequent days (and I don't recall having to put our barcodes on our dashboard in prior years).
Upon exiting the parking garage, at least one of the parking booths had the arms up so you didn't need to insert your ticket. The other parking booth had the arm down so if you didn't get a ticket on your way in, you couldn't easily exit from that booth.
Overall, it was pretty smooth getting in and getting out each day we were there.
