The forum will go dark for a brief time, like a 1/2 an hour on Sat morning eastern daylite time.

Hopefully, when we turn the lights back on there will be a chat function located at the bottom of the main index page.

Indeed.  Ultimately, the goal is to allow forum members the opportunity to get to know each other, while, at the same time, reducing off-topic posts in each thread.  We had some good discussions on what was best suited for the forums (I approached her with the idea, and she found an interesting add-on function for the forums), ha ha.  You should have seen it, ha ha. 

The basic You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login still apply to the chatbox (particularly the ones about flaming, trolling, advertising, profanity, discrimination, or scalping badges--the last part is mainly addressed to new/potential forum members).


If all goes as planned, you should see the new chatbox/shoutbox on Saturday. ;p

It's pretty cool.  the neat thing is we won't have to log on, simply start typing. The chat box will appear at the bottom of the Main Index page.  Above the paypal logo and below the Hall of Records.  There will be a bar labeled Shoutbox with an expand/contract button on the right side, simply click on the button & start typing.

This can be a real useful tool come badge/parking/hotel sales.

Some Notes on the system;

The one thing everyone needs to be aware of is to only use one Message box per session.  There is the main message box and a pop up message box. A messages typed in box doesn't pop up in the other box hence only using one or the other message box.

It seems as tho the sounds takes awhile to become active.  Me & Chris Chen chatted for a good 5 min's before the sound started pinging when a message came in.

As a note, you must have already signed up or registered for the forums before being able to use the Shoutbox.  Your username in the Shoutbox is your forum username.

To clarify, you can use the "in-page" shoutbox, where it's already provided for you on the index page of the forums, or you can use the "pop-up" shoutbox (it's a little link in a corner of the shoutbox that says "Open Popup").  The messages in the "in-page" shoutbox DO NOT sync with any messages from the "pop-up" shoutbox.  Therefore, when you are chatting in the shoutbox, choose one or the other.
