How busy is the public transport on the 23rd arriving into San Diego? I'm just wondering I'll be going by train to the San Diego Amtrak Station, but is it recommended to book a cab/shuttle in advance to the hotel? Is it the same for the 27th? If so, how much in advance.
I know there's also the public transport option, but I'm wondering is it that busy that you have to wait awhile to get onto the bus/trolley or it may be difficult to get in while having the luggage?

It's cheaper for me to fly into LA and then take alternative transportation to San Diego. My question is Amtrak or Greyhound? Which would you recommend?

I would do Amtrak because the station is right downtown, close to public transport, , if your hotel is downtown it will really easy, your also right near the con

What cab companies are there in the us/san Diego area? Is there any you recommend in particular? How much does it cost approximately? Does it count by the km/mile?

I don't know any in particular, but if you google San Diego taxis/cabs I'm sure something will pop up. The prices very, and they charge by mile and minute.

There's also Uber and Lyft that are available.

What is the best way to get to the beach?  We usually do not rent a car but might for a few days this year.  With that what beach would you recommend?

Pacific Beach is more people in their 20's and 30's.  Lots of great food.  Lots of drinking.  Lots of place to shop and poke around.  Be careful to not drink & drive or of drunk drivers on the road.  Parking can be unholy hell in July, particularly on the weekends.  If it's in your budget, a cab is probably the easiest.

Ocean Beach has more of an age range and has the reputation, fair or not and to put it bluntly, as more of a stoner crowd.  It has a smaller main drag, but it is not quite the madhouse that PB is in the summer.  It also has more of an artsy kind of feel to it.  Again, cab is probably easiest.

They are relatively close to one another, so if you don't like one, you can try the other.  Unfortunately, there are no trolley stops at the either.

There are other beaches, but those are the 2 that I am familiar with.

Forgot Mission.  So north to south:  Pacific, Mission, and Ocean beach are all right in a row with some bridges in between.

If you're interested in a wide, calmer beach check out the beaches at Coronado (consistently voted one of America’s finest beaches by The Travel Channel), North of the Hotel Del Coronado, just across the Bay from the Convention Center.

This is a San Diego rivalry:  which is better?   Hodad's or Rocky's (which is in PB)?  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

I don't have a vote as I've never been to Hodad's   For Rocky's, don't ask for a menu, they don't have one.

It's a chalkboard saying:
--Half pound or third pound?
--Cheese or not?
--Fries or no?
--And the locals know that you can get onions grilled if you want them.

They put a WHOLE SLICE of an onion on the burger so be careful and always get the half pound.  Every person ever who has gotten 1/3 pound because they "weren't that hungry" has always regretted it. 

Seating there is a nightmare.  You can call in to go orders.

Does anyone know much about staying on Coronado Island? My brother got a reservation for a motel on it (not the famous hotel del coronado, some other hotel/motel) And i'm not finding much about getting on and off the island. Seems there is a ferry/taxi, but that seems limiting. How is it driving off the island? He'll have a car or truck (driving from las vegas to san diego) so that part is taken care of. Is there traffic jams on the bridge off the island?
