Questions About the Free Shuttles
« Reply #165 on: June 18, 2014, 12:55:28 PM »
Noob here, first time staying in SD for SDCC. I've asked this question to different ppl but mixed answers. Can anyone who has experienced using the Free Shuttles help me plz? I'm going to SDCC Fri & Sat but will be staying in San Diego on Thurs. I want to do offsite events starting Thurs. Is a badge required to ride the shuttles or are they open to the public? Since I won't have a badge til Friday, can I still use the free shuttle to get the convention center & back to my hotel? Some ppl said the drivers don't ask to see a badge, others say they do. Plz help and any tips about transportation and/or shuttles will be helpful. Thank You!

Thanks very much! I appreciate you answering!

I messaged CCI too & got this response:
"Hello,
The shuttles are available to all attendees even if they have not picked up their badges yet.
Thank you

Does anyone know much about staying on Coronado Island? My brother got a reservation for a motel on it (not the famous hotel del coronado, some other hotel/motel) And i'm not finding much about getting on and off the island. Seems there is a ferry/taxi, but that seems limiting. How is it driving off the island? He'll have a car or truck (driving from las vegas to san diego) so that part is taken care of. Is there traffic jams on the bridge off the island?

the island is tricky.  i've never stayed there but somewhere there's some info on the communter ferry which (i think) drop you off by the con.

From Twitter: @DelCoronado has #hotel rooms available for @Comic_Con #SDCC! Getting to downtown is a ferry ride away. Call 800-468-3533.

If you went for the cab option to comic con would you expect a long wait or should you really book awhile in advance? If so how much approximately? Guess it depends on the time but I'm wondering if cabs book out quickly during comic con coz of crowd?

I haven't had any problems with getting a cab. They can get backed up due to pedestrian traffic. I've taken a cab early Wednesday and Sunday afternoon--not exactly peak hours--without any trouble. I've only had to wait 5 minutes max for them to come around. The cabs were really good at weaving through all the traffic and I think they have a lot in the area due to the high demand.

We're staying in Sherman Heights - is there any easy way to get to the zoo using public transit? I see that you can get there by bus, but you have to take a bus downtown, then another bus back up to the zoo.

San Diego MTS website has everything you need to know about public transit. Enter your departure and destination locations in the trip planner and it will give you every conceivable option and how long each takes.

Taking Amtrak Home After Comic Con
« Reply #175 on: July 03, 2014, 10:00:09 AM »
Hi there,

I've taken Amtrak to Comic Con from the Los Angeles area a couple of times, but I've never taken it home. Someone told me that she was stranded on Sunday after the con because there was no room for her on the train back to LA. That has me a little concerned. I'm booked on the 6:45 pm train home, but it's an unreserved coach seat. Does anyone have any advice about taking the train back to LA? Do I need to get there super early? Not sure what to expect or who to ask about it. All replies appreciated!

Best,
Xina

Someone previously recommended that if you are taking a later train (as you are) that you book a business class ticket to guarantee yourself the seat.

I always use Super Shuttle. I think SDCC Blog has a discount code for them.

MTS has an app so you can purchase trolley tickets now and not deal with the machines.

Although it doesn't appear to include the buses so I guess I still need to find a Compass Card. I CAN get one of those at the Park & Market trolley station, right?

You can get one at any trolley stop. The machines dispense them.
