An Author's Guide to D&D

Many SFF authors writing today grew up playing Dungeons & Dragons. The game is experiencing a resurgence today. Hear some of today's most popular authors of science fiction and fantasy talk about how the classic game of the imagination inspired their own writing. Dungeon master Naomi Novik (Spinning Silver) guides authors Lila Bowen/Delilah Dawson (Treason of Hawks, Kill the Farm Boy), Kevin Hearne (Kill the Farm Boy), Matt Forbeck (Dungeons & Dragons: An Endless Quest series), R. A. Salvatore (Timeless, Child of a Mad God), Raymond E. Feist (King of Ashes), and Kyle Newman (Dungeons and Dragons Art and Arcana).

CBLDF Live Art Jam

Celebrate the legacy of underground comix by seeing art made right before your eyes! The CBLDF Live Art Jam brings together a panel of comics artists, including Denis Kitchen, the legendary underground cartoonist and publisher; Emil Ferris, whose My Favorite Thing Is Monsters is the most acclaimed debut in a generation; and Tom Neely, of Henry & Glenn Forever and The Humans, whose work carries the anarchic tradition of underground comix into the 21st century. Watch live art being created, learn about censorship, and bid to win the pieces made during the panel! All proceeds benefit the important free speech work of CBLDF.

Cover Story

More and more, the cover of a comic book exists both to sell the product and as a standalone work of art. What goes into designing a cover and what constitutes a good one? Those are the questions that your moderator Mark Evanier will put to this dais of gifted cover artists: William Stout, Joƫlle Jones, Veronica Fish, Matt Taylor, and Joe Jusko. They'll analyze and discuss some of the covers they've done in this informative session of "shop talk."

David Rosing (NASA JPL Mars Sample Return system engineer), Shonte J. Tucker (JPL thermal engineer), Robert Lock (JPL Mars Sample Return Orbiter manager), Kobie Boykins (JPL mechanical division engineer), and Laura Kerber (NASA JPL Mars research scientist) discuss how they go boldly where there's no one around to fix it.
