Space must be reeeeeeeally limited, because there are no hotel rooms at all.

Any world on the guests/events at this con?

Oh wow, I just checked an hour ago and they still had rooms, hahaha. Perhaps the # of guests is a factor? Because if not, that sold out FAST  :o

Looks like they are still in the early stages of setting things up, so I haven't heard any official announcements on guests or events - but you can be sure that I will keep you guys posted  ;)

I thought so too, so I tried all the way down to 1 guest. Nada.

Oh my, those rooms went incredibly fast, haha! Thanks for the heads up. I am considering attending this, but I don't think I would book a room prior to having a badge due to the fact that the hotel apparently charges you for one night immediately upon booking (someone on Facebook was discussing this - unfortunately, I guess I can't verify that at this point, haha)!

*Edit: I just realized that it's because I changed the dates! I was only thinking of going from 7/29-7/3, and it looks like rooms are available then.

Okay, I was looking at going for the entire con, which may be the difference.

Hmmmmm, if the guest list becomes good, I may do it. Maybe. That said any threat of this con selling out soon?

The "early bird" ticket sale starts August 22. Since this is actually the first year they are doing this con, I'm not quite sure what the demand will be. They currently have a little under 950 followers on Twitter though, so I'm guessing that it won't be an immediate sellout: https://twitter.com/ConOfThrones (https://twitter.com/ConOfThrones)

*Edit: Their Facebook currently lists about 6,500 interested in attended, and almost 2,000 who definitely plan on going: https://www.facebook.com/ConOfThrones/ (https://www.facebook.com/ConOfThrones/). Still doesn't sound like an immediate sellout, IMO. Unless the con center is REALLY small.

It is inside a hotel, right? So definitely on the smaller side.

Yep, con center is in the hotel they have listed for booking. I did a quick search, and their website says that they have 700,000+ square feet of event space: http://www.marriott.com/hotels/event-planning/business-meeting/bnago-gaylord-opryland-resort-and-convention-center/ (http://www.marriott.com/hotels/event-planning/business-meeting/bnago-gaylord-opryland-resort-and-convention-center/)

So, comparing that to something like SDCC (where the exhibit hall is 525,000+ square feet alone: https://visitsandiego.com/facility (https://visitsandiego.com/facility)), it looks like this will definitely be smaller.

I'm certain that it will be smaller than SDCC, but I can tell you that the Opryland hotel is pretty enormous. There's an atrium in that place with 2 story water falls, whole buildings, etc.  it has a river in it that you can take boat rides on.  I remember going there at Christmas when I lived in Nashville, it was something to see.  Google Opryland Hotel and look at images. It's a pretty cool place. I didn't even know it was a Marriott property now.

So, I caved and booked a hotel room for the official dates of the con. The rooms were running out fast enough that they didn't have Thursday night available anymore, so I'm thinking that I'll probably stay near the airport for that night and then move from there to the Opryland on Friday morning (unless rooms open up at a later point). Now, I just hope I can secure badges... ;D

The Opryland hotel is amazing. When I was a kid, the only family vacation we ever took was to Opryland and we stayed one night in the hotel. I was 10 years old and I didn't even want to go to actual Opryland. I just wanted to stay inside and enjoy that hotel.

CALL FOR PROGRAMMING PROPOSALS

Like all Mischief Management events, Con of Thrones will set the stage for in-depth discussion and exploration of topics with a selection of programs created by attendees like you.

WILL YOU ANSWER THE CALL?

Rally the banners! We are looking for a select number of knowledgeable attendees to present on their favorite subjects from the Seven Kingdoms and beyond at Con of Thrones!

Do you have a presentation, paper, panel, or workshop on a subject related to Game of Thrones or A Song of Ice and Fire? Do you have a presentation about what the War of the Roses tells us about the next book, a theory about the House of the Undying that no one else seems to be discussing, a discussion starter about dragons throughout literary history, or a lesson about time travel paradoxes that will help us understand what the heck happened at the end of last season? We welcome all kinds of proposals from informal discussions to formal academic papers.

The Winds of Winter is coming, but when? George R.R. Martin's sample chapters from the upcoming sixth book have created endless questions about the future of the series; now is the time and this is the place for us to explore these theories together.

If you have a burning desire to share your ideas and research, this is the place to tell us about it so we can help you make it happen!

Programs will be accepted on a rolling basis. The sooner you submit, the better your chance of being selected. If you have any questions regarding programming please send your queries to [email protected].

Be sure to read the Rules and Questions on this page before submitting a program proposal.

The deadline for submissions is March 24, 2017.

RULES AND QUESTIONS

Q: Can I create a panel where we bring on a celebrity?
A: No, we're sorry! These are programs that Con of Thrones attendees develop on their own, we won't be able to facilitate celebrity guests for you.

Q: Is there one format I have to follow? Does it have to be a panel?
A: Not at all! You create the program you want to run. It can be a panel, a roundtable, a lecture, a meetup, a singalong, or whatever you envision! Just make sure you specify what you'd like to create in your application (i.e. "I'd like to moderate a panel of four people…")

Helpful hints: a panel consists of 4—6 people with a moderator who leads a discussion, and is often followed by a Q&A session with the audience; a roundtable consists of 4+ people discussing a topic amongst themselves as an audience listens and sometimes chimes in; a lecture consists of one or two people speaking to an audience.

Q: My presentation works best as a PowerPoint. Will I have access to a projector?
A: Yes. If your program idea is selected, Con of Thrones will work with you to make sure the room is set up for your panel. All programming rooms will have microphones for panelists and music playback capability.

Q: I have my idea but I'm not really sure how to put all the details together. Will someone from Con of Thrones help me develop my session?
A: Yes! We want the original idea to come from our attendees, but our team will definitely help you get it up on its feet so you feel ready and comfortable when the time comes to run your program!

Q: What if I'm not registered for Con of Thrones yet?
A: Con of Thrones presenters will be given a complimentary day pass for the day of their programming. If you have already purchased a registration, our team will be in touch to adjust your registration following acceptance notices.

If you have any further questions regarding programming, please email [email protected].
