No badge shipping for this con! Hopefully pick up won’t be too bad for all of you!
IIRC they were suggesting folks pick up badges at their leisure during the day on Tuesday or Wednesday before.  This is relatively easy for locals that can get time off (as a teacher who's off all week, that seems very doable for me at least), and anyone who is looking at flying in before Thanksgiving to make a holiday of the event.  FWIW, CCI did badge distribution for years once sold-out/pre-badge shipping with incredible efficiency: like, the easiest/fastest-moving line all week!  Same with WonderCon.  While we've been kind of spoiled the last few years with badge shipping, I think CCI will be able to manage this fairly easily!

I wondering what it's going to be like if it's a cold wet con.  There was a time when Nov weather was still pretty good in San Diego.  Right now there's rain, lightning and thunder at the end of Sep.  It's only 3pm but it's as dark as it is at 7pm.  Climate change.

They are holding this con because they need the cash inflow. If they can make money on merch, there will be merch.

IIRC the last Thanksgiving I went to someone's house in 2019 was pretty rainy.  Don't remember the rest of the weekend, though it is rare to have multiple days of constant wet weather here.
I agree Friday's weather was trippy!  I was in the Carmel Mt./Rancho Bernardo area (I guess technically 'central county?') in a meeting inside a windowless room, and the thunder was LOUD!  We didn't get much rain at all, but there were flood warnings on my phone

so weird to think there is a Comic Con coming up in just over a month and a half.  Normally i would have already ingested about 4 months of twitter, SDCCblog, and FOCC posts.  I've got a pass and hotel room but feel like i know nothing about this event with very little time to go.

From the San Diego Union-Tribune, re attendance.

Comic-Con International, though, decided it would still attempt a smaller-scale in-person event this year, scheduling it for Nov. 26-28. The normal, pre-pandemic conventions typically attract 135,000 attendees over four days. Comic-Con spokesman David Glanzer, during a July news conference, said it’s difficult to predict attendance for the November event, but gave a rough estimate of 60,000.

That is about WonderCon size!  I hope they have good programming!

It doesn't feel like it's going to make it to 60,000.  Pretty much the big demand dropped off an hour into the sale.  Then there was no wait.  I don't think there is an ongoing mid to high level of badge sales.  Has anyone bought a badge today?  What's the order number up to?

It could still later. You just never know, but I am starting to think the same.

Ticket sales will probably go up closer to the con, as people especially locals, have a better idea of their Thanksgiving plans.  But it’s not going to sell out.

NYCC has announced they will be checking vaccination status beforehand and issuing wristbands.  This makes so much more sense than checking it at the door.  That would be a nightmare.  I hope SDCC does the same.

My guess is that they will be checking at badge pickup, which is one of the reasons they are requiring everyone to pick up their badges in person.

This is gonna be a logistic nightmare...one location to have peeps check in (except for Wednesday) is gonna be insane.  I remember the lines of peeps as we'd just make the walk towards Javits, imagine how this is gonna happen for say Saturday tix, when folks can't get there during the week?

Love the idea, as it'll make it easier to leave/return, but dang, I am not looking forward to that first line of the day...ho boy...
