Title: Game of Thrones: The TV Show, Hall H, 1:40pm
Post by: ice9 on March 26, 2013, 09:44:01 AM
Are there any other GoT fans around?

I'm super excited about season 3. Sword of Storms was my favorite book and reading interviews with the producers they even said their goal when they started was to get to this season so they can put the plot of that book on screen.

Less than a week to go!

We finally will get to see the Reeds, Mance, and the Blackfish in the show. As well as the Tully's!

I'm so excited. We finally get the Reeds, Ramsay & Reek (rhymes with freak), and the Tyrells in full glory.

I'm partial, I'm a huge Tyrell fangirl, and having more Loras/Finn Jones is going to make me so happy.

We don't have cable/satellite, so I'm usually a bit behind on the show. I've read all the books though, and I enjoy picking up the series on DVD after the fact.

I saw that on twitter/facebook I'm going to do that tonight.

Glad their are a few fans here. I almost forgot about Reek!
I think for a most part they have done a good job. they have stayed "mostly faithful" in their adaptations. Some changes i don't understand, but most i get that it is a different medium and you have to make adjustments.

Big fan.  This is probably the #1 panel I'm hoping to see at Comic Con.  Love the show.  Plan to read the books at some point, but am holding off for a few reasons.

that is a great pic with Hodor, i've listened to some podcast interveiws with Kristain he sounds like a really nice guy.

I read this morning that the Actor that plays the Great Jon was attacked at his hotel and one of the guys bit the top part of his ear off  :o

Sounds like he is okay, but i could not help but think two punks could never do that to the Great Jon.... a direwolf perhaps but not two punks

Can we make a "no spoilers" pact in here?

Would love to hear people's thoughts on the episodes after they happen but want to avoid hearing about something that happened in the later chapters in the books but not yet in the show.

Good start to the season!

I love that Ser Barriston the Bold is with Dany now. He is a great addition. The dragons looked fantastic.
Giants! They looked good too and i love the guy playing Tormund he is going to be great. not as sold on Mance but he'll grow on me.

It is interesting to see Magaery and Joefrey inteact

Loved Tywin and Tyrion! Such a powerful piece between them

Overall i was happy and okay with the changes.

I continue to have Nerd Rage that Ghost is not with Jon Snow. Looks like i'm just going to have to get past that.

The Ghost situation may change, I remember him being with Jon and also times when he disappeared. I'll have to re-read that whole part :D

You are right, If i recall ghost would go out on extended hunting trips and would be away for a while then. I'm guessing it works for the show so they dont have to cgi him all the time and spend money. I assume that is the same reason the battle for the fist of the northmen happend off screen :( that would have been fun to see.

Yeah a lot of things are going to happen off screen, just like the first two seasons, just to save time and money.

I don't even remember Robb going to Harrenhal in the books

Barclay is having a screening? That sounds so fun! I hope someone here in SoCal does a screening for it. I'd love to see it on a big screen though with fellow fans.

If you're going, hope you have a lot of fun.

By Barclay's, I mean Barclay's center, home of the Nets.  Not Barclay's the bank (which has naming rights for the arena).  They are also doing the traveling exhibition with their props there.

They just had the premiere last night at Lincoln Center (complete with a large scale model of a dragon), so hopefully some of the stars stuck around to make an appearance at the event.  I know Peter Dinklage lives in Jersey so it wouldn't be much of a trek.   One of my favorite con memories was standing right behind him while waiting to board a plane from Newark to SDCC.

That would be cool if they did do a SoCal screening. Has anyone heard if there is a possibility?

If the screening tonight goes well, maybe they'll put together a similar event for SoCal.  But these activations take some time to plan so perhaps next season.   I actually think fan screenings are a great money making opportunity.  The Doctor Who Anniversary screenings raked in a lot of money and it wasn't even an advanced screening like this GoT event.

Here's a description of the event. Ticketmaster tickets are gone but you can get some through resellers.

If you guys are looking for a cool Game of Thrones related event and are into beer.  Ommegang Brewery is doing a launch for their new GOT beer line and also for season 4 premiering the following week.  They are doing several launches across many cities.  I am going to the one in Cleveland Ohio and they are doing a Medieval Feast style dinner.  Worth looking into if you are a fan of the show.  Here is a link to the Cleveland one on Facebook but it is now sold out.

The Barclays screening was very cool.  I didn't get a chance to walk around the exhibit because of the crowd, but the show they put on was great.  They started off with a behind the scenes and then brought out Common for him to sing his songs from the GoT mixed tape.  Then they had a mini panel with Kristian Nairn moderating (and "hodor" chants when he was introduced).  GRRM,  Maisie Williams, the actor who plays Samwell and the actress who plays Shae were there.

All in all, a very Ballroom 20 like atmosphere and I am very excited for the season to start.  As for the ep itself, all I will say is that Pedro Pascal should hopefully put the "wah wah, he's too white" complaints to rest.

If it makes you feel better, there is one in San Francisco, but it's while I am in Seattle for ECCC. Also, it's just the beer tasting (no dinner or other special event) and since I don't drink, that's not much of a draw for me anyway.

I have so many feelings.  Love the relationship between Arya and Clegane.  It's like a murdering father/daughter duo.  It's like the movie The Professional sort of (if you ignore the deleted scene from that movie anyway).  Ugh yes love it.  Ygritte is just so awesome and doesn't take crap from anybody.  Daenerys is still my end game, but her story is slowing down until she hits Mereen.  Must have PATIENCE.  Looking forward to more awesome from her.

As much as I would love for him to have a slower, more painful death I was kind of like "YES! Now die! Quick! Before anyone has time to try and save you!"

I was happy with his death because he doesn't deserve an epic death, he deserves a pansy death - like poisoning.

Last night GRRM tweeted "I'm the real Kingslayer, b***h!"

It looks like he took it town, but it was hilarious.

to get his comeuppance and was kind of bittersweet.  Don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled that he's gone but like others I wanted him taken out in a more "in your face" manner so to speak.

Still...thought last night’s episode was stronger than the premiere.  As someone who hasn’t read the books and does their best to stay away from spoilers...I have to say it is a story that continually surprises me, and after 30+ years of reading fiction/comics/watching movies and TV,  I can’t say that too often.

I didn't realize they'd get to Joffrey/Margaery's wedding so early on in the season. It looks like they're going to combine elements of A Feast for Crows along with A Storm of Swords. That said, as someone who's read the books too, I really can't wait to see Tyrion's story unfold on the show.  >:D

I am also in the know here but I feel like I shouldn't answer. Although for the people who haven't read ahead, I urge you to go back and watch that scene after the assassin(s) is revealed. It's pretty cheeky. I was highly amused.

If was so well done!

I always laugh when HBO shows the warnings for GoT, tonight there was plenty.  Great episode.  I keep rooting for Sansa despite her cluelessness.  She has no idea what Little Finger did to her.  The champion fight reminded me of Raiders of the Lost Ark.  Great scene.  Can't wait for next week!

I didn't know he was ill. That explains why in the series they have Bronn teaching Jamie how to fight with his left hand, rather than Payne. I thought they were just condensing the roles.

Dave, thanks for the info. I agree, why would anyone have anything else to do? And if they did, why wouldn't they just DVR it? Sigh... network executives and their stupid ratings/advertising revenues decisions....

I watched Sunday's episode in a fetal position with a blanket over my head and my hands clamped over my ears. The book did not prepare me properly.

Somewhat off-topic, but if anyone lives in or around NYC, Pedro Pascal is playing Don John in Much Ado About Nothing for Shakespeare in the Park this summer. I saw it on Tuesday and got my picture taken with Pedro after. He was excellent, and very nice!

that would be pretty great, Pedro has been such a great Oberyn

I've talked to so many folks who said last weeks episode was the most disturbing one to them of the whole series. and too think we have two more epsidoes this year.

It still might happen at the beginning of next season, not sure if they are dropping the whole story line or not. I would think it would be kept because it does involve a character who is currently in the show. And for the book readers they did show a related plot line.

I am always a fan of reading the books because you just get so much extra, but I also get super annoyed everytime they defer from the storyline, so I bet it's good to live without that annoyance, but yeah I say read the book!

I read the first one, I loved it, then I got to the 2nd one and I was really frustrated because I couldn't get my head around who Davos was, like, who he was related to or how he related to the storyline. I know he was on the show but I just can't remember him or his plot line. Every time I got to one of this chapters I had no idea what was going on, so I just quit.

Ahhh Davos is one of my favorite characters! He's a ex-smuggler and Hand of the King to Stannis. Kind of like his Jorah Mormot in that he is Stannis's moral compass (more or less).

For me the worst thing is I just can't keep the books straight in my mind now with the shows, me and my book folks are always trying to bring up things that will happen, but the conversations are like, "are you sure." "yeah it was that guy." "no it wasn't it was that guy." "are you sure." "Who are we talking about."

Thursday night/early morning hours Friday. Most people in the Hall H line for Friday are there for Game of Thrones, so the hall won't empty much beforehand.

You will have to choose. GoT autograph tickets are done by drawing in a different part of the convention center. The drawing will be in the morning, but you have to line up early to have a chance, and by the time the drawing is done, it will be too late to get into the panel. This is what happened to my friend and I two years ago. We missed both. :(

After seeing Pedro Pascal here again, I just realized how much I am going to truly miss him on the next season. Granted, his run has come to an end (his watch has ended) but he was truly brilliant in the role and he has so much natural charisma that I am just eager to see him again.
