We used to eat a lot at the Fox Sports Grill when we stayed at HBF. Is that still open?

I don't think so. It looked closed.

What I thought was strange is that when I checked the Hilton Gaslamp they were not charging this fee.

At MGH the daily fee wasn't charged during SDCC in 2019.  For sure something to watch for on the bill in the future!

MMM started charging a resort fee a couple of years ago, but that only includes a $10 F&B credit out of a $30 fee. I also found out the hard way that the $10 has to be every day... you can't spend $40 once on a 4 day stay (although I have gotten the front desk to 'fix' that for me). So at least you can get the entire $35 back as F&B. We used to eat a lot at the Fox Sports Grill when we stayed at HBF. Is that still open?

hmmm...

I stayed at MMM this year.  I didn't see a resort fee on my bill.  Do you remember how it was characterized on the bill?

[member=5681]sessionka[/member] I was also at MMM. I was expecting the fee, so I checked my bill when I got home. It wasn't charged. I think they waived it for SDCC like MGH did.

It seemed like the extra fee was only charged on nights booked outside of the onPeak reservation system.  Probably because the fee was already included in the onPeak rates.

That is good to know. The only hotel I stayed at that charged a resort fee was Hard Rock and they charged both for On Peak and non on peak days.

It was only charged on the days I booked direct with MMM. The OnPeak portion of the reservation didn't have it. But I always book my bookending days direct with Marriott, so I had it on those outlying days.

What is the range of days before and after the con dates that OnPeak will take reservations for?

This past year, it was Sunday to the following Tuesday, or 9 nights.

You can usually book directly through the hotel for cheaper for anything prior to Wed and after Sunday.  We usually get Wed-Sun through the lottery and buy Tue & Sun night after the sale straight from whatever hotel we get to save a few $$$.

Add to what [member=5606]tsnyder[/member] said, the days outside of Wed-Sun are usually highly available directly through the hotel. For example, I've been able to book Tuesday night at the Omni just a few weeks before SDCC. And from my experience, the front desk are happy to combine multiple reservations at check-in so you don't have to swap rooms or check out and immediately check back in. Unless you happen to book different room types (eg. single king vs two queens), and in that case, your mileage may vary as to whether they let you stay in one room the entire stay (I've experienced both ends of that spectrum).

i'm hoping for springhill suites downtown again this year, i've stayed there 2 years and was lucky enough to get mmm last year, i loved how close it was to walk back and forth from the convention, but i think it was a bit overwhelming for the rest of my family, it was like you never left the con, which was great for me but not so much for my wife. I really liked springhill suites, it was easy to take the shuttle, uber or trolley in the morning and had plenty of room and always smelled nice  :P

I still like the Westin San Diego.  It is a bit of a hike but it is a nice hotel.

I have been so unlucky this year as far as my codes getting chosen for the lotteries. If not for my group, I would not be going to SDCC. So, hopefully that means it's my turn to score for hotels.
