Disney Plus Streaming Platform
« on: November 08, 2018, 01:46:48 PM »
Hot off the press.... Disney Plus is coming.

Disney will pull its content from Netflix in 2019 and this is probably why they cancelled  Luke Cage and other series.

Personally I think there are too many ‘pay’ streaming platforms and we are approaching a breaking point to prove value through content offerings. CBS All Access is a great example.

What are your thoughts.

I believe people will move from platform to platform depending on what is released and when.

What about the Marvel series? It specifically said movies with no mention of the series.

Read the tea leaves. They will want them in-house but they will be careful how they approach making those moves as they would impact current agreements and negotiations.

Heroes for Hire could happen on Plus as it is a clean cut from Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

Expect the same for Hulu for Runaways eventually. (Vegas Bet)

There are too many streaming platforms. I think it will be that way for a while, and then a lot of the smaller ones will condense and/or merge into the bigger ones in a few years. FGor example, Amazon Prime already offers extra 'pay' channels.

Our method is to move from channel to channel, only ever having one a month (except Amazon Prime, which we have for 'free' shipping, and rarely watch). While IMHO this is the most frugal way to watch everything, there are a lot of people who will just subscribe to everything all of the time, like people who pay big bucks for those massive cable packages with hundreds of channels. I'm just glad that those of us who want to be more selective will have a choice.

Been reading loads of articles about this but nowhere does it say if they will be releasing it outside of the US.
Hope they aren't shortsighted enough to not put it worldwide.

I’m started doing this jumping around to subscribing to binge watch a show, at 6.99 for Disney+ I’ll definitely do the yearly buy. If I add all my streaming up it comes to $70 and I don’t watch a lot of tv so it’s time to cut the streams

Disney is projecting 60 to 90 million subscribers by 2024, two-thirds of which it says will be international.

$70 for the year, will all the Marvel & Star Wars I can handle?  Plus a relatively cheaper cost when bundling with Hulu (as I've already that)?

At such a cheap price this is a no brainer for me.  I was going to get it anyways for all the new star wars stuff alone, but now I'll keep it all year no question.

That's a really good point.

I'm excited about the original content they've announced so far, and we may be forced to subscribe just for the Simpsons, (my daughter's favorite show.) I'm hoping they do a better job with tech integration than DC Universe. With that we're just going to do a month every now and then, partly since it is so annoying to have to chromecast to our tv since they don't have a samsung app. I know it's fine on other devices but these days I just want to park it on the coach and geek out.

I watched the Disney Investor's Day webcast (where all of this Disney+ information was announced) and while it was very brief, SDCC was specifically mentioned/shown as a venue through which to promote Disney+ (alongside Star Wars Celebration and D23). I don't have a screenshot saved, but I went through their very, very long investor's day You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login and found the slide that was shown:

So I am keeping my fingers crossed for Disney (and especially my beloved Marvel Studios) to give SDCC some love this year.
post quoted from the Panel Speculation thread

Hopefully a sign up promotion (similar to DC Universe last year).

With SDCC being explicitly called out, here's to hoping that maybe stopping by their both gets you a discount code for first year...
