Heads up, Marriott just cancelled a reservation I had for the Moxy for next year's dates. I wonder if they're going through and purging to prepare to offer rooms with the sale next year?

Say What???!! Not good news at all. :(
It is 2024, and I am still asking...where's my flyin' car??!! @fannishmarcia

I called Marriott corporate, they didn't have an explanation and suggested I call the Moxy front desk. I did, and I'm awaiting a call back, but we shall see!

Isn't that sort of the norm?  Aren't there times when some hotels 'forget' that's the week of Comic-Con.  When I checked it for availability that week, it said 'sold out'

Does anyone have any experience staying either north (on the Coaster route) or south (on the trolley blue line route) as opposed to in SD? The reason I ask is that I'm An Old Person  ::) and honestly am done with the con by 8pm nightly, or at least I was this year. I wouldn't mind staying up (or down) the coast a little bit, and maybe even avoiding con at all on Saturday.

This year I stayed (by choice, early bird) at the Doubletree Mission Valley, right across from the trolley stop. It was fine, if getting a little worn. There are also no fridges in the rooms and if you want food, you pretty much have to get it delivered. However, I am not a con nightlife person anymore, and I can't see myself camping out for Hall H. So, it might be nice to stay away from the maddening crowd a bit.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Unless you want to stay far away, the Coaster is not an option.  It's a regional train and not really metro.  So it doesn't stop very often and the stops are wide apart.  It does stop close to a beach in many places though.

The Blue Line Trolley also goes North with more frequent and shorter stops.  In particular the UTC stop is in an area with a lot of hotels and a big shopping center so has plenty of places to eat.  Being UCSD/La Jolla though, it's not cheap.  It's reasonably close to beaches and my favorite La Jolla shores.

If value is what you are after, the Blue Line south will take you there.  I've said it before, but if I wasn't local I would seriously considering staying at the border.  There are places there with good reviews at a bargain price.  Of course that area has lots of cheap and great food as well as a huge outlet mall.

Did you have a reservation, or are you hearing that other people did, and they're getting cancellation notices

Were the reservations for the Residence Inn that have been cancelled scheduled directly with the Marriott or through another site? This is disturbing...

Both.  I booked directly through Marriott.

Thinking about this past year, I do not remember hearing about this many folk getting cancellations of directly booked early  Marriott hotel reservations. I admired those who were able to book early. Looks like those days may be gone.  :(

Yeah, the Residence Inn didn’t cancel for this year, even though I was concerned they would.
