Hello guys. It's tax season which means my mind is on hotels and airfare. Before I book my airfare I'm trying to figure out if I should arrive on Tuesday in San Diego just for SDCC or maybe the Saturday/Sunday before to do Disneyland. I really want to see Star Wars land, but there is no confirmed opening date for it. I talked to a friend of mine who is actually a Disney vacation travel agent, and she says "summer," which is vague. Of all the people that would know, she would LIKELY be the best. And yet she doesn't. However, that doesn't stop me from coming here to see if just MAYBE one of you guys has heard anything.
So what's up, folks? Anyone know or heard rumors that it might be open before SDCC? Anyone have plans on going if that's the case? I plan on buying airfare in maybe February or March so I'm hoping for a definitive answer before then. If not... I guess my 20/20 trip is gonna be hecka huge instead.
-
As you say, there is no official date. However, I know they're aiming for summer. 'Summer' *usually* means June. They like to have stuff open before the July 4 weekend. But no one knows for sure.
I have a room booked for 1 night at Disneyland (the Friday before SDCC) just in case... but it's cancelable, so no skin off of my nose if it doesn't happen. That's trickier to do with airfare.
You *should* be safe with mid-July... but the question is, how much are you risking if you are wrong?

I'm missing 8 additional hours of PTO and risk landing in an airport really far from where I want to end up (San Diego). Trying to find a way from Orange County to San Diego is a struggle to begin with, but it's a struggle I'm willing to make for Star Wars lol

For transportation, I believe the general recommendation is to take the train.
https://www.wanderu.com/en-us/train/us-ca/anaheim/us-ca/san-diego/
-
Yep, if you don't have cosplay-levels of luggage the train is definitely the way to go. The Anaheim train station is a short Lyft from the park, or possibly bussable/walkable depending on where you're staying. And then the train will take you straight into downtown SD. A one-way ticket will run $30-45 depending on if you want business class or not.
-
Ohhhh thanks guys! Two years ago I did a big complicated thing where I was bumming rides off of two people to get from one place to the other. Went to Disneyland one day, went home with a friend, then my cousin picked me up from the friend's house and drove me the rest of the way. It was complicated and took two days and perfect scheduling lmao. I appreciate this tip.
-
I third the suggestion of taking the train. A couple of years ago, I went from D23 in Anaheim down to SDCC by taking the train, and it was very easy. I had my biggest suitcase with me and managed okay - I checked it because it was so big. I picked it up in San Diego at the luggage area at the train station when we got there.
-
I wholeheartedly endorse the train. I’ve used it between LA and SDCC. It’s easy and much more comfy than a plane or car.

Regarding Star Wars - Galaxy’s Edge. I’m going to skip the crowds of the opening weeks and save my energy for SDCC 50. I plan to stay an extra day or two after WonderCon 2020 and visit it then. But I totally get not wanting to wait. I hope you have a great time!
-
Sara has done the train the past two years, and Megan and Justine rode it with her last year. There was a delay on the way home but other than that it was easy peasy :)
-
I'm doing Disney after Comic Con so hoping that it's ready too. It makes sense they would get it done for the whole summer season.

I'm flying into Long Beach a couple days ahead of SDCC with the purpose of hitting up Galaxies Edge. I know it will be insane with the area just opening (hopefully) but really only time I'm ever in CA is from Comic Con so going to try and pair them up. Was planning on taking train down after Disney as has been suggested by the awesome FOCC folks.
-
Awesome feedback everyone. I took a train from Portland Oregon down to LA once (it took like 40 hours lol) and I totally don't remember how the luggage worked. It was way back in like 2012. Do you just store it overhead like on a flight?
I'm setting myself a hard deadline to decide on if I want to risk it for mid March. I get a bonus check from work then, which I'll use to purchase my flights. Hopefully in the next 3 months we get some confirmation on if it'll be open by then or not. If not... idk man I'll flip a coin.

If your baggage is small enough, there are usually overhead racks and sometimes racks near the doors where you can put your luggage. If you have something big like I did or just don’t want to bother dragging it around, you can check it at the baggage area at the train station and then your luggage can go in the baggage car. They’ll load it and unload it on carts like they do at the airport, so when you get to San Diego, you go to baggage claim at the train station and pick up your bag. I had to get there earlier than normal (maybe 45 minutes before departure) in order to check my bag. I don’t know how strict they are about that. Checking my bag was free though!
-
Just in case anyone else is following this thread - checked baggage service is only available at selected Amtrak stations. Anaheim and Downtown SD are both on the list, but not all SoCal stations are. So if you're considering taking the train from a different starting point, check the Amtrak website before you pack your bags.
(The luggage situation is the main reason I don't take the train to SDCC. I'd love skipping traffic but with big luggage + cosplay props it's too much to deal with, and you can't check luggage at my home station.)

This is all super helpful. Thanks everyone!

Yeah now I'm debating my schedule. Fly in Saturday, do Disneyland Sunday, have a recovery day Monday, then SDCC starting Tuesday. OR remove the recovery day and fly in Sunday, Disneyland Monday, and go to SDCC Tuesday. Gonna take some time to consider this. ???

Disneyland just announced a ticket price increase and it takes effect now. If you go to an online broker fast, or maybe your local AAA office, you can still get tickets valid throughout 2019 at the old price. If you want to look online, I recommend Undercover Tourist as a place that is reputable (I have used them before).
There is a promotion going on now for special tickets that expire at the end of May. Obviously those can't be used in July. Make sure yo uget the ones that are good through the end of the year.

Thanks, man. Someone sent me the news article last night about ticket increases and I went on the Disneyland app to see if I could buy in advance. I noticed the end of May issue as well. I'll check out what you've recommended! Thanks!
-
They had a Canadian resident discount that's now only valid until May too. That's a big price increase.

I've checked Undercover Tourists, Mouse Savers, and the Disneyland website itself. None of them go past May 23rd. Guess we know what date ticket prices increase! :o

Disneyland website will have the increased prices.
Have you tried your local AAA?

I'm not an AAA member, but based on research it seems their discounts aren't too great to begin with. But yeah since I'm not a member I can't contact them to confirm.

Their discounts on Disney tickets are meh, but they will sell their old stock of tickets at the old price, until they run out.

I have something to post here that is relevant to the topic of this thread! :D
A few nights ago, I dreamed I went on a Star Wars ride in Disneyland and Harrison Ford was one of the riders. He insulted me for not knowing what city his Han Solo character was from. I told him I watched all the Star Wars movies. He told me "yeah, well it sounds like you don't pay attention."

I can totally see Harrison Ford doing that. Reminds me of when he went on Conan and Conan offered to pay him for Star Wars spoilers. He took the cash and said something like "I'm in the movie" or something as equally non spoilery as that (I can't remember the exact quote lol). That man is a troll and I love it.

This is my favorite instance of Harrison Ford avoiding Star Wars questions...

I read somewhere there will be announcement of the actual day this week 3/4 - 3/10. There is going to be the annual Disney shareholders meeting where Bob Iger will be speaking on 3/7 so maybe that's when he'll drop dates for Disneyland & Disneyworld. We just know it's summer for now... :-\

can't wait for it to open here at Disneyland.
Guests planning to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park between May 31 and June 23, 2019 will need valid theme park admission and will be required to make a no-cost reservation, subject to availability, to access the land. Information on how to make a reservation will be available at a later date on Disneyland.com and the Disney Parks Blog.

At Disneyland:
FWIW Mark Hamill hung out for a bit at Disneyland's Star Tours to play the 'part' of tour guide/"make sure you're seat belt is fastened" person, leading up to LAST JEDI.
And Johnny Depp hung out on an 'island' in Pirates ride to surprise guests one day leading up to the last Pirates film.
Also, on Dick Van Dyke's 90th he was hanging around New Orleans for a bit and (I think?) he might've ridden the carousel with 'Mary Poppins' as well.
Celebrities 'pop in' at Disneyland frequently to have fun with guests, so anything's possible with Disneyland magic!

Prize* to whoever find the details about when the entire thing will be open. Seems like not everything will be open in May, but what about July right before con?

Ugh, I can only imagine how crowded it is going to be! I am guessing the reservation thing will be extended to July, when I plan to check it out...

yes the reservation idea is really smart on their part. i can't imagine how busy disneyland will be all year around once it opens.

I am bummed it won't all be open!

Good news! Tickets are now available past May!
Also there's now two different Galaxy's Edge threads. This one and one down in Off Topic. Merge perhaps? cc [member=317]Zero[/member] ? Oh don't. I'm fine either way lol

Yes, just the ticket! Not the reservation. The websites and articles say a reservation isn't required after Jun 23rd, though I suppose some things could change.

Haha yep. I'm grateful so many people are looking out for me though! Bought my ticket yesterday. So I've got my airfare both to California and back, my hotel for Disneyland, my Disneyland ticket, my SDCC badge.... now just waiting for the Hotelpocalypse and I'll be set.

I'm from out of state...how hard is it to drive from San Diego to Disneyland? How long would it take? I'm from a rural area but have some experience driving in Chicago traffic and on one vacation around San Diego (non-Comic Con time) but you hear so many horror stories about driving the California freeways. I was thinking of going for a day on the Tuesday after the Con. Do you think everyone else will have the same idea?

I think you'll be fine. Yes, California drivers are jerks, but just take caution and you'll be fine. It's about an hour and a half to two hour drive so if possible I'd stay in Anaheim. Personally, I'm doing the trip BEFORE the con. So I think there will be a good mix of people doing it before and people doing it after. And many just not doing it at all. Pulling a number completely out of my butt here, but I wouldn't expect it'd affect capacity by more than a couple thousand? Which isn't noticeable at Disneyland really.
-
Thanks! I am excited about the opportunity to go! I've never been to Disneyland, just Disney World so I don't know the area at all. I think I will take your advice about staying in Anaheim. I imagine it will be lines everywhere still in July but after SDCC I'll be a pro, right?

Forum Housekeeping:
Merged newer thread ("Star Wars Galaxy Edge opening May 31 @ Disneyland, August 29th @ Disneyworld") into older thread ("Will Star Wars land at Disneyland be open before SDCC?") to avoid confusion between two threads on the same topic.
As this isn't actually related to SDCC discussions, this will be housed in the Off-Topic Chat (where the newer thread was created).
Retained newer thread's title to indicate actual opening dates for clarification. ^__~

Agree with @Angel_! The drive isn’t bad at all; just allow buffer time for traffic and use caution.
DLand is easier to navigate than WDW! There are many non-Disney hotels within walking distance!

I've done the drive a few times and it's not too bad actually. You'll need to do a few u turns but it's not insane.
We're going Tuesday as well and we've done it twice. It's busy but not bad.

I live in San Diego and I'm a Disneyland Annual Passholder. I live in kind of central country and from my place it's around an hour 20 depending on traffic. From downtown probably closer to an hour 45ish. Disneyland is off the 5 N freeway (from San Diego), and if you're coming from downtown it's almost a straight shot on the 5, depending on which freeway you jump on first downtown (or 163-5N). Driving-wise it's very easy to get to, and with google maps or maps, or whatever smart phone maps app you use you should be fine. Depending on how early you head up (in the summer you want to get there close to opening), you can possibly still have the Mickey garage open, which isn't far from the freeway exit. There are signs up around Anaheim to point drivers in the way to the nearest parking; they're the electrical signs that change constantly to update where to go for parking (as opposed to just a stationary sign on a post that might take you to a lot that is full or something).
The Disney employees around Anaheim, and the city, REALLY to relatively well getting traffic to the park as painlessly as possible, IMO.
I know people in my line-up group who are planning on going to D-land the weekend before Comic-Con so I suspect there will be a fair amount of people trying to go then.
BUT...
mid-July is a pretty busy period at Disneyland anyway, so regardless of Comic-Con peeps it's going to be crowded.

I have caused much unneeded heart attacks on this day and for that I apologize lol

Hey, now! My $.02 on CA drivers (or which I'm one so take that as you will) in general circumstances:
1. we're not great at merging, but so are many many other drivers all over the country
2. we go the speed limit or faster ( 8) ). If you drive the speed limit stick to the lane inside the far slow lane; if you drive slower then the far left slow lane. The middle lanes are for, like 70-75+ mph on freeways, with the far right passing lane being, well fast and passing. It's not unusual to have a CHiP or PD riding your tail with you going 75 in a 65, only to annoyingly pass you going 80+ as they go about their business (w/no lights).
3. we generally give you a decent assured clear distance for the most part, and if you use turn signals you'll generally find polite drivers to let you over
4. we have carpool lanes! This is great if there are 2 or more in the car, and sometimes drivers treat the passing lane in the HOV lanes as the "super fast lane."
Obviously, all bets are off in rush hour, or for special events. Driving around downtown during Comic-Con is not a good representation of CA drivers (and there are obviously many non-CA drivers in the mix), obviously. The traffic on freeways typically sucks during rush hours: especially the closer you get to L.A.
IDK; when I moved to Southern CA from OH 21+ years ago one think I really liked was the driving 'attitude.' It's not for everyone, for sure, but I'd say it's part of the CA character :-P
-
I grew up in California and got my license in California and now I refuse to drive in California lol But New York and Miami were worse. So I'll give you that. You aren't the WORST. ;D
-
Thanks! I'll start looking into hotels!
If you have the $$ to stay at a Disney resort you can position yourself to be ready to 'rush' Galaxy's Edge right when it opens. Disneyland has a "Magic Morning Hour" for guests of their resorts (Disneyland Hotel Resort; Paradise Pier; Grand Californian), where you can get into a park an hour early. Galaxy's Edge won't be open early, but Fantasyland will. The entrance to Galaxy's Edge is the walkway in between Fantasyland (the far corner by the Burger Haus restaurant and snack stands) & Big Thunder Canyon Railroad (on the edge of Frontierland). You can hang out in Fantasy land the hour early and line up by the far 'exit' and then when the park opens you can skedaddle right to Galaxy's Edge.

Hahahaha; no worries! It actually jolted me awake which got me going to teach :P

I can see that. My experience was coming from the midwest where drivers drove me nuts (and the freeways are often both tiny - like two lanes on the major freeway from the state capital to Cincinnati, w/slow drivers & always always construction) to CA where drivers are a bit more aggressive and faster-paced. CA is more my style, but I get how it's not for everyone

Is this the regular Disneyland app or something special? Because I've been poking around the regular Disneyland app for months and watching it update with info, but I didn't know it had this ability. It sounds amazing but I feel like I must have the wrong app for it lol

Not a pass holder but sounds like the normal app. Heard a podcast talking about the games and challenges to do while in line at space mountain so think it must be the same that opens up in that area. Also heard about the droid you can get to take around with you to interact with things and people. Kinda like the wand and wizarding world. The more I hear the cooler it sounds. Just REALLY hoping rise of the resistance is open by sdcc time.

Disneyland website is saying you will need a reservation to go into Galaxy's Edge. Have they said how one would be able to secure a reservation at this time? If it's like all other hard to get Disney reseverations, it's by phone and you just hope like hell you get through. I am also going to assume they will give priority or early bird to D23 and/or Deluxe Passholders.....but who's to say. I am just curious how they are gonna do this......

my daughter is curious how they are going to do this as well. she keeps bugging me to be on the ball for when they do. she knows she is too slow, and i might have a better chance getting her a reservation when the time comes. LOL ;)

No, haven't heard anything about the reservation system yet, other than guests of the 3 Disneyland hotels get a reservation. Last I checked, those start at $412/night during that time frame, so no thank you, haha. I've been checking the various Disneyland forums to see if I can hear any rumblings about non-hotel guest reservations, but still haven't seen anything yet. Being an annual passholder, I am hoping they'll give us priority, but no word on that yet either.

I booked a hotel a block away for about $110/night. I guess if you quadruple it you get to have Disney extras and stuff like that. But meehhh.
Of course I say this as someone who's hotel for SDCC was $400/night last year. There's some cognitive dissonance here perhaps lmao.
-
USUALLY the big benefit you get from staying at a Disney hotel is early entry. You can get early entry to one of the 2 parks every day. This gives you a HUGE leg up on the crowds, and you can get a lot accomplished in that hour, plus in the second hour, you can move on to the 'second tier' rides, staying ahead of the big crowds all morning.
OTOH, for the first few weeks of Galaxy's Edge opening (until June 23) the only advantage staying at a Disney hotel gives you is a reservation to get in. That may not even be that great, if the reservation is for a busy time of day. We don't yet know what kind of advantage they will give for dates after June 23, but I am holding onto my Paradise Pier reservation just in case...
-
An hour of early entry doesn't feel worth $300/night extra to me, but I'm also an absurdly thrifty person lol.

It can be if you have lots of people in that hotel room. But yeah, for one person, clearly it's not worth it.

As long as you're already in line before park opening, that's advantage enough. As APs, we make sure to arrive prior to park opening, then we are typically only there 8am-10am (because 10am is when it starts to get busy) and get a tremendous amount done. But yeah, with Star Wars Land thrown into the mix, not sure how that's going to change things... haha.

I had an annual pass as a kid and loved to get there when they dropped the rope on Main Street. My mom? Not so much. She's like... we have annual passes we can just show up whenever and do whatever ;D Eleven year old me did not care. I had to be there the moment it opened haha. It's been forever though. I might do that for Galaxy's Edge though if I can shove my roommates out the door at the buttcrack of dawn.

I feel like 20 years ago, your mom was probably right! Even 10 years ago it was a lot less busy than it is nowadays :(

Except for Indiana Jones and the new Tomorrowland. I remember waiting 5 hours for Indiana Jones and at least 3-4 for Rocket Rods. My friend had an accessibility pass the first couple years Rocket Rods was open, though, so we got to skip the line a lot. But then she got better haha. I mean... yay obviously. But oh god that line didn't die down for years.

I'm going the Monday before con. I fly in Sunday, do Disneyland Monday, head down to San Diego Tuesday, and then SDCC.

I can't go on opening day, because of work/family obligations. Both Angel and I have plans to attempt a visit just before SDCC.

I’m a Disneyholic, but I’m from Minnesota. It’s going to be difficult, but even though I’ll be in California for SDCC in July, I’m going to wait until next year’s WonderCon before visiting Galaxy’s Edge. I’m excited for you all though. I hope for full reports.

I plan on doing a full write up for my website, hopefully publishing it before SDCC. But idk how much time I'll have between the two lol. I'm going to try though.

Just let me know if you decide to come during my time period. I've already got my hotel room booked and full so I can't split a room, but I'd be happy to meet up.

If you are coming, just LMK, Alyssa!

All Disneyland resort hotels are completely booked the night before Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens[ (https://www.polygon.com/2019/3/21/18276212/disneyland-resort-hotels-booked-star-wars-galaxys-edge)/b]
Those looking to stay on Disney property before they head to the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge better try a different hotel location — or another weekend entirely.
All Disney properties at the Disneyland resort are completely booked the night of May 30, the day before Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens. Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Paradise Pier, and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel are all full. A booking agent confirmed this with Polygon, and mentioned that partner hotels still have availability.
(...)
As evidenced by the booking situation, hype for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is intense. The full hotel situation comes not only from the excitement, but from how Disney hopes to manage it.
From May 31 to June 23, not only will visitors have to purchase tickets for Disneyland, they will also have to make reservations to enter Galaxy’s Edge. While Disney has yet to release the information on how to make those reservations, thay have said that each registered guest staying at the Disneyland resorts will receive one reservation.
-
Am I odd? The first weekend it opens is the one weekend I wouldn't want to be there. I know they will go all out but ugh the crowds.
-

Nope, we're planning on staying far away from that area on opening weekend! haha
-

Not to mention that there will be issues and I want to give them time to work out some of the bugs.

Guess I'll go against the grain here, but I love being "first." If I lived in SoCal I'd have likely booked one of those rooms. Sadly airfare is expensive and all my time off is used for SDCC (and uh health issues) so I won't be there then. I was the first guest to enter Innoventions when it opened back in like 97/98.
But I'm weird.

no, it's a thing, being first.
personally, the crowds will be hell for the first year or two imnsho-
but i guess the fast pass option might kick in after a while BUT being first especially in the blogging write-up arena is a thing

https://www.ocregister.com/2019/03/28/disneylands-bathroom-pass-will-make-hours-long-lines-more-bearable-for-new-star-wars-galaxys-edge-attractions/
When Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run opens in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland the highly anticipated attraction will have hours-long lines and an all-important new feature: A bathroom pass for those who can’t wait that long.
The new bathroom pass will be available in the Smugglers Run queue when the ride opens May 31 at the Anaheim theme park and the Rise of the Resistance queue when the second Galaxy’s Edge attraction debuts later this year.
https://www.ocregister.com/2019/03/28/want-to-visit-disneylands-star-wars-galaxys-edge-brace-yourself-for-big-crowds-and-long-lines/
Disneyland will restrict access to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge from May 31 through June 23 to visitors with reservations. Each registered guest staying at the Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel or Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel during the initial 24-day window will receive one reservation to Galaxy’s Edge. A limited number of theme park visitors not staying in one of the three hotels will be able to make reservations for Galaxy’s Edge. Disneyland has not yet released details on how the free reservation system will work.
There will be no standby access to the land and we want to make sure that that’s clear for guests,” said Disneyland Vice President Kris Theiler. “We don’t want guests coming to the park thinking, ‘I don’t have a reservation. Maybe I’ll just get in the queue and I’ll be able to get in.’ We’re not going to have a standby line. So it will be limited solely to those guests that have reservations.”
A reservation probably won’t give visitors unlimited access to the new land for the entire day, Theiler said.
“We will be giving guests a window of time, but we’re still working through what that looks like and the duration for that,” she said. “We know guests might want to stay in there all day, but we’ve got a whole big group that wants to get in there. We’re just trying to balance all those things and really deliver the right solution for our guests.”
-
Ha, I hadn't even thought about the bathroom situation. I vaguely remember when the Indiana Jones line was like 5 hours long we would run to the restroom and have trouble finding each other in the line again. My mom got yelled at because people thought she was cutting in line. lmao it was vicious.

FWIW most, if not ALL, of the rides w/indoor lines have a bathroom in the que: you just need to ask the employees (I've been in the bathroom in the Indy ride and in Space Mountain). Glad they're already anticipating that issue for Galaxy's Edge.

The lines will be insane for quite awhile. I've been an AP holder for the better part of 2 decades and when Carsland opened up the Racers were 2+ hours of waiting for several years later: and even know during peak times of the year 2+ hour wait isn't uncommon.
This is not only going to be crazy, but since there seems to only be one way in or out for attendees it will likely be worse than most places in the park.
Other places in Disneyland that are one-way in/out:
* back corner where Splash Mountain & Winnie the Pooh picture place is
* Toontown
Neither of those are really bad at all (maybe the area by Splash Mountain in the summer), and they're both pretty wide-open areas to make it feel a little less congested. But I suspect Galaxy's Edge will be a LOT more popular than those areas were since they first opened.

Yeah, I'm with you for the most part. I'm a teacher so I'll have all summer to find lesser-crowded days during the week to check it out, but I def. want to be there ASAP. As a kid growing up in OH I would see the Disney specials on TV that celebrated the opening of a new E-ticket attraction and I always wished I could be one of those lucky people experiencing the new ride. Disney used to be great about giving Annual Passholders a sneak-peak the week leading up to Opening Day. Got to do Carsland, Toy Story Midway Mania, Little Mermaid, all had AP sneak peaks. It's not uncommon for Disney to do "soft openings," where they'll open up a new ride a weekend early just to do a test run. They won't announce it, it's one of those "in the right place at the right time" type of deals. I got to do this the year they changed Space Mountain to the SW version: I was there on a Sat. or Sun. and one minute it was closed like it had been for months and literally 15 min. later it was open with zero line. So maybe I can get lucky and ride it on a secret soft opening before it opens. I'm hoping to catch it opening weekend, and I'm staying at Paradise Pier in mid-June so I should at least be able to ride it then. But I'm with you Angel: I like to ride it first as well

Huh... I had an annual pass for about 5 years (1997-2002) and I did not know this.

On the maps it looks like there may be a possible entrance near Splash Mountain/Critter Country for this. But. as noted above, I'm clearly not the most up to date on Disney stuff. I've just been stalking maps on the app and Google maps and noticed some construction near a path in that corner.

Back in 1998 there was a soft opening for Innoventions and I was the very first guest to step foot in the doors ever. I wear that badge with pride lmao. I was stalking the "new" Tommorrowland every day for months. Also wow the "new" Tomorrowland is two decades old now. I FEEL OLD.

Yo I'm quoting myself and double posting I'm sorry. But this made me want to go stalk it on Google maps again to make sure I wasn't making it up in my mind lol. This is the construction in that corner in which I speak of:

We were just at Disneyland last weekend during WonderCon. There will definitely be an entrance into GE in the old petting zoo area (underneath the railroad tracks) and also another one next to Big Thunder (again, underneath the railroad tracks). We saw the 'doors' and walkways. The doors are currently boarded over, but it's clear that these will be entranceways.
So with 2 ways to access the land, hopefully crowd flow will be a little better than a one-way in-and-out access.

Hmmmm so I wonder if the Critter Country construction I'm seeing is a third entrance, or just some backstage stuff.

Disney definitely mentioned three entrances-- one through Critter Country, one near Big Thunder Mountain and the other near Fantasyland.
I found this map--

Looks like the closest entrance to the Millennium Falcon ride would be the Fantasyland entrance.

I didn't see the one in Critter Country, but honestly, when I'm there, Pooh Corner (and Tigger/Cheshire Cat tails) is my primary focus. ;)
But those other 2 sound like the entrances we saw. The old petting zoo is just outside of Fantasyland.

I know that area as the old Festival Arena where they did the Hunchback of Notre Dame show. I miss that show. So it like hundreds of times i stg. That place was my childhood. But anyway, I'm off topic lol.

Yeah, I've been an annual pass now for about 15 years. I only know because...well...I have stomach issues and if I don't really carefully regulate my diet I have problems. And...you k now...sometimes you just HAVE to stop into Carnation Plaza for some moderately greasy fried chicken, or to Pizza Port for some more-than-moderate greasy pizza :P

Oh, thanks for that: I hadn't noticed that before. That looks almost like the sneaky back-door or something (LOVE it) :P

Thank you all (and Jun) for the clarification. I haven't poured over any of the maps or anything, so I appreciate everyone steering me right here! I haven't thought too much about this; for the last couple years it's been more of a "oooh: look at the construction zone!" thing than anything else. I'm super busy with work the next few weeks (hosting a three-day event on campus; taking a group of around 70 kids to perform in Ireland), plus as an avid Padres fan (season ticket holder) I've been more wrapped up in them as far as extra-curricular brain-thought. I've been more focused on "when the H does the reservation process go live?!?!?!?!" aspect of SW: GE than anything else.
I feel a lot better knowing there are multiple ways in/out: thanks!!
-
FWIW I was just told there will be no soft-opening for Galaxy Edge: Disney is considering the May 31 date as a soft opening. There'll be a press preview the weekdays leading up to May 31, and maybe an employee preview.
-
I wish I would’ve seen this before I booked our airfare cause I would’ve gone with you @Angel. We were planning on going when we were in LA for the Thor premier but we ran out of time.
My friend just moved to Orlando so we are probably going to wait till it’s open there.

We reached out to our friends at Coca-Cola, and along with Lucasfilm Ltd. came up with specially designed Coca-Cola bottles that are designed to fit authentically within the Star Wars universe.

This is awesome ! See you on ebay lol.
This pains me to say living 15 minutes from Disneyland. But we just got back from vacation at Disneyworld I am now #teamdisneyworld. We all know the constraints of Disneyland due to land and space. And while Disneyland is the OG. God the ability and the use of that ability and space of Disneyworld is indescribable.
The "wideness" of the walkways was so refreshing compared to Disneyland. I dread when my boys want to go on Jungle Cruise at Land because of the bottleneck to Adventure Land due to the narrowness and the DoleWhip Line.
Anyhew. I didnt want to create a new thread about it so I digress here. My boys now want to ride Thunder Mountain more so they gets views of the building of the land. And they like "hanging out" at the Mickey Parking to see the Star Wars Galaxy progress. Anyone else knows Disneyland locals who are staying at resort hotels to secure entry when Star Wars opens in May ? Crazy we funatics are.
So surprising when you combine Star Wars and Disney Funatics together lol.

I was at Wizarding World opening week and it was AWFUL. I do not recommend doing that. Though, granted, there wasn't a reservation system so in that sense it might be better. I wouldn't have minded so much if they had purposely kept attendance down.

The hype will die down a little, but expect this to be the number one attraction at both Disney parks until another major attraction opens. Witness Carsland, Avatarland/Pandora, etc.

agree with this 100%

I'm going right before SDCC, so 6 weeks after it opens, and I'm planning on my entire day being spend waiting in lines for the one (two?) rides and to make a lightsaber. I've accepted that I won't be seeing anything else in the entire park and I'm fine with that. I've trained for this lol

just a practice run for waiting for hall H right ?

Pretty much though. Hall H has skewed my opinion on what a "long line" is. Back when Indiana Jones opened, the line was like 5 hours long. At that time it was the longest I'd ever been in. Now? Not even close. Thanks Hall H.

I think another good trainer for long lines is the DMV. In CA, I've seen the DMV line span outside and wrap around each of the 4 corners of the building. It's brutal. Luckily I've recently bought a Nintendo 2ds to make the waiting a bit more bearable. I'll definitely bring it with me while waiting in line for all the Galaxy Edge attractions in the future.

I too have done the Calfornia DMV experience. I watched an obscene number of Office episodes on netflix. Had to bring the charger too.

Yikes! I don't think I've ever had one that bad. Longest in a DMV line was about 3 hours. And that was bad enough.
I'll have my phone and enough power banks to power a small city lol.

The hype will die down a little, but expect this to be the number one attraction at both Disney parks until another major attraction opens. Witness Carsland, Avatarland/Pandora, etc.
For real, there's a "new" ride at Disney World that my mom has been wanting to go on (Florida resident pass) but every time they go, Fast Passes are gone immediately and the line is almost never less than 2 hours. This ride opened at least four years ago.

Would this be Flights of Passage in Pandora/Animal Kingdom?
In Magic Kingdom the hot ride (FP gone immediately) is Seven Dwarves' Mine Train. In Epcot it is the Frozen ride, and in Hollywood Studios (until Star Wars opens) it is Slinky Dog Dash.

Seven Dwarves' Mine Train. I think they may have gotten to do Flights of Passage but I'm not sure. Dad is a big fan of Avatar for some reason.

Looks like there are some rooms left at Disneyland for the premiere weekend:
Rooms that sleep up to five were available for $763 a night at the higher-end Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. No rooms were listed as available for opening day at the Disneyland Hotel or Paradise Pier Hotel. Spots at all three hotels were still available later that weekend for prices starting at $561.
Source (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-04-22/-763-disney-rooms-are-all-that-s-left-for-star-wars-opening).

Yep i have a room as insurance. Hoping for the free reservation may 2nd

I found the avatar ride one of a kind amazing. and i am hardly a fan of the movie or cameron lol.
Huge fan of Slinky Dog.
Dwarves ride is just so darn short.
Frozen ride at opening is a pretty short wait. Because most at opening are heading mainly to test track.

A friend of mine who works at the park has stated that employees aren't allowed to "sign themselves in" (basically they get a certain amount of free days for themselves per year) from May 31st through September. A lot of employees who are Star Wars fans are incredibly mad. YIKES.
-
I can imagine that the Star Wars area is going to be overcrowded as it is, and a lot of regular guests aren't going to get to see it because of the reservation system. Not having cast members sign in makes sense, although I understand why they are mad.

I understand they are mad. But I personally dont think they should be able to go. If anything maybe have after hours for staff even the night before I would understand (would be even better for them). But to take spots in the general day I would lean no.
-
I mean, I too would like the crowd to be smaller, but it definitely feels unfair to employees who have never had this type of blackout block in the history of the park. They've had a few blackout days before, but I'm fairly sure four months is unprecedented. They work hard for the park, so this feels a bit extreme.

I didnt knowing was 4 months. Wow. Maybe limit the number of cast members per day ?

Yep. As quoted, May 31st through September. That's very extreme. Again, black out days happen. But I don't think it's ever been for this amount of time before. I COULD be wrong. But yeah.

I spoke with a disney rep a day or 3 ago, they stressed that the following info was hearsay & strickly from personal experience.
the rep said, she went to the first day of the cars exhibit under the same type of plan that's seems to be in place for SW. There was also a 4 hour block of time, 8am- noon, noon to 4 etc. Her family had a 8am slot and was able to do everything- 3 rides and see all the exibits-
this gave me great hope that disney would be realistic on the amt of people allow into each time slot. I said, 'It would suck to have a 4 hour slot & stand in line for 3.5 hours of that time' While she didn't say that wouldn't happen- i got the strong impression that it was unlikely

Waited about 30 min before they let me in. Many time slots for the weekend I'm visiting so I'm happy it worked out :)
-
Got in queue and got in to get my friend's daughter opening night.
I messed up and didn't see the add names. Luckily though they said she is the one with the season pass!
-
Doesn't seem to be much wait to get a reservation now,
Looks like you can still add your name as a guest on a second reservation and go more than one day.

I did not see an 31st 8am slot available. maybe it was there for a minute.
-
This was like Budapest all over again for me...get 4 devices running at 8am, wait anxiously for 2 hours.
I messed up too, blazed right through the adding of names. Fortunately I got in later on my sister’s account.
-
And that's that.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190502/da6e09adcc3b95b8aeb26923963e5b23.jpg)

Congrats to everyone who got a reservation! Please leave some lightsaber materials behind for those of us not arriving until July ;)
-
I am anxiously awaiting news of what they're going to do after June 23. I suspect that they will wait and see how the reservation system goes, and then make an announcement as to whether or not it is continuing.

I hope they don't continue the reservation system. I've already told my travel companion that I plan on spending the entire day in Galaxy's Edge and that he's free to ditch me if it gets boring lol. With lines expected to be several hours long for, like, everything I'm sure I won't even get to do all the things I want to do. Though I suppose the reservation system is intended to prevent that. *shrug*

I've read that after June 23, they'll implement a virtual queue and you'll be notified when there's room for you to come into the land.

Hmmmm... I wonder ig there will be an advantage for guests of the Disney hotels in the virtual queue... I guess I will have to wait and see!

I already have a non-Disney hotel booked off site and likely can't afford the price difference, but oh man if it helps I may reconsider.... maybe. Wonder when we'll hear more about the post-reservation system.

Hall H has skewed my perception on things and this doesn't seem too off to me. But again, Hall H has MESSED ME UP MAN.
Honestly, this is unprecedented. The Disney parks have added new lands before, but this is certainly the biggest property to have a new land in my lifetime (I mean, DCA was an entirely new PARK but that's different). So the standards are kind of gonna be set by those who show up. But like Hall H, I wouldn't state what time you're showing up.
This does bring up the question on how they'll handle early birds on opening day, though. Usually people start lining up at the turnstiles before sunrise anyway. Then Main Street opens and people line up at the rope. Then it's a free for all. But this is unique. I'll be super curious to see what you encounter.

i would say i am in line already. but that is so cliche and 2018.
well. its a new "thing". but the time slots have to help. its just a matter of how much time of your slot will be taken by waiting through stuff to get in. i think if i can get through security should be "okay" anywhere inside the park at 8 is my goal. will give a update.

Wouldn't it be cool if on opening day they lined Main Street with Stormtroopers to control the crowd. If they can bring all those Stormtroopers to comic-con, they should be able to round some up for opening day of Star Wars Land.
-
Just a word about early lineups....
The entrance plaza and downtown Disney are secure areas. You can enter the areas overnight, but they will sweep the area in the morning and remove everyone. Then they will start clearing people at security checkpoints and letting them in. So your 'early morning arrival' is actually at the security gates.

HA yes. It's been a long time since I've done an early morning line up. I think circa 2000 or so. Before the plaza was what it is today. From my understanding the Main Street and rope drop systems are the same, but the plaza I'm a bit lost on how that'll function.

We are going with CorgiKohmander on June 8th! We agreed that we didn't want to deal with the chaos of opening weekend. Plus this gives us the opportunity to see how things go for a week and figure out what the best strategy is ;D
-
So ready to try to get a Sith robe that is crazily expensive. >:D
If available of course... ;)
-
I'm wondering how much the custom lightsabers and droids will be. My guess is hella expensive. But I wanna do it anyway.

that was a secret !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! jk. i hope this helps many of us. they really needed a walk through like the hotels. now they have to deal with what they created. but its disney and doesn't surprise me at all that they are trying to make it right. disney rules lol.

Heads up, looks like Star Wars fans won’t be able to cosplay while attending Galaxy’s Edge. Even if you bought an item there.

It is going to be worth it. ;) Even if Disney was charging $500, I probably would still get one. Lol Yet I hope they don’t.

Agreed I needed a walkthrough.

In Colorado, if you go in right before they close, they have to serve you and thus work a LOT faster. You can also check wait times online.

With the exception of the 24 hour day Disneyland does annually, they (and Anaheim) are fairly hard corps about waiting in lines over night or super early in the morning or what not. Even so, when they do the Rope Drop you're right: it IS a free-for-all so it's possible someone who slept over night is STILL going to be behind an obnoxious family who just kind of pushed their way to the front.
With the pseudo-'Fast Pass' Reservation times, I think crowds will be manageableish (certainly moreso compared to general populace when it opens). If anyone on planet earth knows how to handle huge crowds and lines, it's the Disney Parks logistics crew, so I'm not too worried about it (meaning: I'm not worried at all). I was 'not chosen' early in the reservation process so I had to "settle" for a day that was later than I wanted but it is what it is.
Part of me is still hoping/thinking they'll do a soft opening like they often do. I know employees have gotten a "surprise" pseudo-walkthrough last weekend unexpectedly so maybe regular attendees will as well as we get closer to that late May opening weekend!
-
Fyi. I called the number to add one to my reservation last sat. The person said there was nothing in the computer about adding but she could do that right now and it is automatically approved. No email confirmation will he sent.
Scary

I keep hovering over GE on Google Maps hoping they update their Satellite images to a more complete version of the park. I am ANTSY. Surely it must look more complete than that now lmao. Come on Google maps hurry up. This is all I have right now :P

Thankful they don't! It's pretty cool. Even though the images are clearly several months old, when you zoom in the spires have a moderate 3D effect. As you kind of shift around on the map you see them at different angles. Way cool.

Meanwhile, I’m trying to be spoiler free and am trying to resist any drone videos ;)

Update if it helps anyone. Here is my timeline.
1) I was lucky to sign up for the opening day May 31st the 8am slot. I am not saying this to brag please dont think so. I say this because it applies to what I have to share.
2) Either I didnt see it (I am positive almost that I would have) or it wasnt there to add other people to my reseration. So I got an email telling me that I have a spot for me and only me. I was like ugh did I mess this up or did they not provide the button.
3) I got sent a notification from Disneyland from friends that Disney was addressing this issue that the button was not obvious or there was a "glitch" and they were allowing a "plus one" to any reservation of one person by calling them.
4) I called the number last Saturday. The person on the phone said it has been noted and it was not set in stone but if approved I will receive and email the following Tuesday or Thursday. And to make sure to call back in a week.
5) I called on Monday just to see if I could get any more information. The person said that there was no update of my reservation in their system. A little unnerving. But she said she took care of it and that it is auto approved. And that was the end of it. I should not expect any email confirmation because it is done.
6) I got a confirmation email today (Thursday) lol
7) I also asked about the conflicting reports about lining up overnight etc.... You are allowed to lineup overnight as far as the person on the phone knows. And she also put me on hold to get answers from other people during the call. BUT there will be DIFFERENT lines for those with reservations to Galaxy and general admission. And people will not be allowed into the esplanade or in an attendee made line beforehand until 6am. She also said that the parking lots will be open at 530.
That is the latest information that I have acquired. I do not know how much of it is true or if it will change. But hoping this might help.
;D

That's only slightly more expensive than I was guessing. I was thinking $80-100. So I think I can justify paying more for the experience of building it myself. Sounds fun.

Sorry to double post but this thread has been dead for several days and I have new info to add. I apologize.
I'm seeing some chatter on Disneyland forums that Rise of the Resistance is 1) cool but 2) encountering a ton of technical difficulties. One person on the forum said it'll work for 15 minutes and then go down for hours. They currently have cast members test riding it. I'm having horrible flashbacks to Rocket Rods but, from what I can tell there's no fire involved lol. But ugh. Hope they fix whatever is going on there and it comes up within a few months. Might have to do Disneyland again next year if it's not open by July 15th.
Edit: Side note, Disneyland forums are weird. I prefer here. Y'all are my home. I miss you guys when I'm over there lmao :'(

Disney forums are cool AND scary ! Some are uber cliquey. I only feel comfortable in two forums and this one is one of them.
The ROR ride (yes I made that acronym up so smart) is my main thing I want from the land. That and a custom fancy lightsaber. So I am looking forward to it. Would be funny if it crashed and there was fire and we thought it was part of the ride.
Actually typing that out. That is not funny at all...... I love it on Buzz when the ride stops due to loading or glitch. Put my pod in front of a triangle !!!!!

You local or plan on making a trip out there? I can really only afford to do Disneyland at the same time as SDCC due to airfare so I'm hoping it's ready by then or I have to put it off to next year. But if you're local you might hold out until it officially opens.
And yeah I'm tooootally going to get a lightsaber too. Maybe a droid. I'm going to hemorrhage money basically.

I am local. 13 minutes away. We got reservation tickets by chance/luck for opening day May 31st.
Before you go in July. Look up youtube videos about people experiences etc. You will have a lot more data by that time. I have already looked at the one where you choose which lightsaber and the options lol. I will check in with my experience as well. Probably what NOT to do lol. I just found out on a video yesterday that there is another entrance near the Winnie the Pooh ride. Had no idea.

Have you guys tried the Mice Chat forums? I think it's probably the best. I've been a part of the Disney Parks online communities since they were all on Usenet (rec.arts.disney.parks and alt.disney.disneyland). Most of the people who post at Mice Chat have been around for ages and know their stuff.

Micechat is where I got the info that the right keeps breaking actually haha. It's near the bottom of the post here (https://discuss.micechat.com/forum/disney-theme-park-news-and-discussion/disneyland-resort/8587565-entertainment-cancelled-in-star-wars-galaxy-s-edge).

I added a guest to my reservation yesterday and they said to be expecting another confirmation email with the added guest's name sometime in the near future.
On the topic of Disneyland forums, I used to be extremely active in one but gave up when it no longer was a positive experience.

Ahhhh, yep. Doesn't surprise me. That's definitely the forum to watch to keep your eyes on insider information and intel.
-
So the lightsaber's are going to be $200 (https://www.wdwinfo.com/news-stories/handbuilt-lightsabers-in-star-wars-galaxys-edge-will-cost-199-99/). Which is a bit more than we were speculating back a few pages.

John Williams in Disneyland: The Story Behind His ‘Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge’ Theme
For only the second time in more than four decades of “Star Wars” music, legendary composer John Williams has written a new theme for a “Star Wars” project that is distinct from his film scores for those galaxies far, far away.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the much-anticipated attraction that will open at Disneyland on May 31, inspired the five-time Oscar winner to pen a five-minute “symphonic suite” that musically encapsulates the remote outpost on planet Batuu along with the various outlaws and rebels that parkgoers will encounter there.
Interviews with those closely associated with the project say that Williams’ participation was a long time in the planning stages. Matt Walker, executive in charge of music for Walt Disney Imagineering, tells Variety that since the outpost didn’t exist in the films, it would need “its own score, one that belonged to it, but of course lived within the universe of John’s writings for the films.”

This site has price listings for a lot of the Galaxy’s Edge merchandise. Looks like most of my purchases will be from the Toydarian Toymakers.

Oh darn. The website is blocked at work. But I can feel that emoji that's a dollar sign with wings flying away DEEP IN MY BONES. I'm going to hemorrhage so much money there before I even get to SDCC. I'm already aiming for the $200 lightsaber and I really really should not.

You can bounce off of a Web proxy to get around blocks. That is unless the Web proxies are blocked too. Beware to never type any personal information into a Web proxy.
If you are into FX lightsabers, a couple are on sale at Barnes and Noble right now for less than $50 that normally sell for $200. Stock is gone online and low in a store now since it's been this price for a few days. But it never hurts to check your local store. You do have to order it online for in store pickup to get these prices.

Someone over on a Disneyland forum posted a detailed write up of the land from a cast member preview. Full thread here (https://discuss.micechat.com/forum/disney-theme-park-news-and-discussion/disneyland-resort/8588099-swl-cast-member-preview-random-observations).

I can't set up proxy's on my work computer unfortunately.

There's nothing to setup with a Web proxy. It's just a website you go to. You go there and then enter the URL you really want to go to and it acts as the middle man. For example a well known Web proxy is translate.google.com. You used to be able to use it as a general Web proxy but Google got hip to that and now only allows you to use it if the target language is different from the source language. Before it would let you translate form English into English so it could be used as a general proxy.

Not to derail too much, but I'll just say I don't currently know of any unfortunately. I apologize if I got us off topic. Was mainly just saying even sight unseen I know I'm going to be dropping loads of cash haha

There are plenty of them. Just type in "web proxy" into your favorite search engine. I just thought I'd mention it in case anyone has problems looking at something because of blocks.

Checked a few proxy sites and they are all blocked. But thank you! Sorry for the derail!

just a heads up
both me and [member=2389]Mario Wario[/member] will be doing GE tomorrow, opening day.
I will be posting in this thread pic's etc all. We do plan on doing a write up for the blog but i usually like to include folks as it's happening.
we've got reservations between 11am to 6pm PT.

Looking forward to your report, Alyssa!
Seems like you guys have 2 slots, an 11-3 and a 2-6? I’ll be curious to know how they handle this and whether you’ll need to go 2 separate times to pick up wristbands? I have the same situation with an 11-3 and a 2-6 when I go in June.

but have you built a lightsaber or droid yet [member=1]alyssa[/member] [member=1233]jopari[/member]
in the last photo looks like a bit of walking space behind you, lol
-
Thanks for the photos so far, Alyssa! Looks like you all are having an incredible time. Also looks like your cast member source was correct and that it’s being run like the Cars Land previews a few years back. We had ample room to wander around and could even ride Radiator Springs Racers as many times as we wished.
So if there is a need to pick up wristbands for the 2nd of consecutive slots (11-3 and 2-6), an hour will need to be sacrificed and maybe it’s more advantageous to leave from 2-3 and come back to re-enter SWGE as quickly as possible?

regarding the 2 over lapping time slots, we decided to leave early for the first slot, and return late for the second slot- we needed to do some pin hunting and package drop off.
in general i would say there are 4 main attractions, the ride in the falcon, the light saber build, oga's and the droid build. my order of enjoyment was
1) light saber build
2) oga's
3) Falcon ride
4) droid build
it seems as tho it's possible to do either the light saber build OR oga's. we went to oga's first then tried to do the light saber- it was booked for the time block. we tried periodically then committed to doing it and applied sdcc techniques -- line up early & fast walk straight there.
the falcon ride was fun enough to do it twice if the line isn't long- just keep an eye on the app!
the droid build didn't seem worth it and was skipped.
Oga's was a blast! but was went with folks who enjoyed that sort of thing ;) iow- ***great*** company makes this place the most enjoyable!
food and drink evaluation;
love love love the blue milk! - the green is odd--- it was ok but not for everyone
according to my buddies the drink Jet Juice tasted like jet fuel - but they seemed to like it LOL //i did not try it
I tried the Fuzzy Tauntaun- it was really interesting- i am still having a hard time identifying the flavors
there was mixed reviews on the beer but the general consensus is that it was normal craft beer- As folks can see from the menu the souvenir glasses are expencive- they seem to all be made of plastic.
shopping;
k, wow can disney do merch. I went in saying i may get a fridge magnet & a tee shirt.... (don't laugh) and ended up spending at least
$150 on clothing & hats (3 t-shirts and 2 hats)
$210 on the light saber
$60 on food & drinks,
$100 on a Jyn necklace -- which totally was *needed* for my Jyn cosplay ;)
$70 on pins & a coffee cup

The plain pin above is the pin that came with the light saber.
Yes I did get the 'Power and control' kit to build.
I had intended to get the 'Peace and Justice' kit but the P&C kit (black/gray/red) called to me.
the light saber is 2 lbs and 8 oz approx. unlike any other light saber i've held before, solid. If i had a fighting blade on it.... ;)

figured there would be some opening day pins!
[member=1]alyssa[/member]
Probably wouldn't buy as many shirts and the necklace but would consider a second lightsaber after I built my own
looks like you guys had fun
At celebration I remember at the GE booth them saying some items at black spire are just placed anywhere and that like not everything is out and you can talk to people to trade for items or you had to ask a certain way to get something specific. Any of that?

one of the other folks knew about the pins- i just tried to get the ones that were unique. the flip down one with the MF and 2019 is, we thougt the real unique one- there was another one we missed tho.
we didn't encounter any 'things to ask for' aside from the light saber build place- that was a little hidden- not really tho ;)
yeah i know- to many shirts but
the black one is super special- I'll probably wear it at con - it's just really neat & i didn't see it till late in the day.
the blue shirt is the opening day/week/month shirt. and the red one is just me-
the two hats--- well i forgot my hat so was getting burnt - then i found the rebel hat...
i cun understand a guy not wanting a necklace ... but think of it as the *singularly perfect* accessory to the cosplay outfit- I've been looking for a Jyn kyber crystal for a year & a half
-
Wow, that is an SDCC worthy haul there [member=1]alyssa[/member]!
Looks like I won’t be doing the overlapping slots after all, just going to the earlier one as my grandmother went to be one with the Force this week and I’ll need to cut that visit short in order to pay last respects to her.
As a pass holder, I’ll be back many times and will aim for a monthly visit. Just looking through photos and videos, I know I’ll enjoy simply walking through Galaxy’s Edge even if I don’t do any of the attractions.

i am sorry to hear that- its never easy when someone leaves this plane of existences- please accept my sympathy
my recommendation is to pick the one thing you most want to do, apply sdcc rules and focus on that- the longest line was for oga's - the hardest reservation was the lightsaber build

That's the video that changed my mind. I was lukewarm on the lightsabers due to the cost. You can get FX lightsabers for a quarter of that on sale. The ability to change the kyber crystals sold me. Now the hurdle is being able to get up there.
Did you get a SoCal pass?

i'm thinking of getting a SoCal Flex pass for $455- it gives 2 reservable days within a 30 day period during black out season-- I KNOW i will want to go again for ROTR opening..... ;)
ok i caved and bought a flex pass-- If anyone has an extra spot open in their reservation this week and wants the pleasure of my company... LOL let me know. it might be possible to add me to your open rez.

Don't forget that you can also easily go again during WonderCon. It's about a 15 minute walk from the Anaheim convention center to the parks.

Also, welcome to the Disney annual passholder club! I just renewed mine a few weeks ago - was considering the flex but because it's a new process, decided it might be better to hear how others are faring with it and the advance reservations. My work schedule always varies week by week and I don't usually know when I'll be off until 2 weeks in advance.
For anyone that's visiting soon, a little secret I read just today - if a Resistance member starts yelling out "we are the spark!" and you reply with "that lights the fire" (I think either Poe or Holdo says this in TLJ), they'll hand you some sort of card that you can keep. Just like secret SDCC swag!
Also, as Alyssa alluded to, it seems that if any lines get capped, just do the old SDCC "walk around in the vicinity but keep a close eye on the line" trick and you should see the lines for Oga's or Savi's or whereever else open up. The only thing is that here they don't have fire marshals dispersing you :)

thx
it made sense to do it this year. I think it works out to be about 5 trips to break even. I've gone once. I looked at the ability to book a flex day & nothing was blacked out.
The rest of the 4 trips will be taken 1) before SDCC with friends, 2) When RotJ ride opens 3) I try for another Savi's build experience and 4) I try for another Savi's build experiences.
yes, i may be developing another collection habit ;)

i'm waiting to hear how a member of the board faired this morning, he was trying for Savi's..... fingers crossed for [member=2389]Mario Wario[/member]

I’m going to say it, the reservation system works! This morning never felt crowded at all, even when including the 11am group. If you had a chance to go now, do it. 4 hours is enough if you make a plan.

I was able to build my lightsaber. :)
I was group 1 and got done 20 minutes after paying.
-
everyone building their lightsaber, I'm jealous.
I want to go but being nowhere near the West Coast and with the FL one not open until August I have to make sure everything is open. So for me at least I am waiting until all the rides are open in the park!
But I still want lightsabers

I got my lightsaber in my profile pic from UltraSabers, great guys! Picked mine up at a convention and saved some money that way. Looks like you guys had a great time and I love those hats.

i've got my eyes on a setup with a ultraedge heavy duty blade. so i can get into the heavier sparing- plus that blade weights more. i'd rather not go from light to heavy later on. no sound in respect to my wallet.
this is the hilt

Oh that’s super nice! The sound option can get really expensive but I’m glad I have it on mine but I won’t be using mine for combat, lol!

Lightsabers ARE on topic
I want replicas of the film props; bums me out those don't seem to be an option for whatever reason (maybe there's some sort of exclusive deal w/FX?). I get the custom-making thing, and I'd maybe even be interested in mixing/matching different parts from different lightsabers of the movie. I can't personally justify dropping $200 on a non-movie lighsaber, as cool as these seem (and they do seem REALLY cool, and I might change my mind upon going to Galaxy's Edge and seeing that coolness in person).
The (cheaper) remote controlled droids, on the other hand... ???
-
They have replica sabers for sale at dok ondar’s. There’s Luke’s (ROTJ), darth maul (TPM), Darth Vader (ESB), obi won’s 1st saber, rey’s, Mace windu, Ashoka tano (white version), Asajj Ventress and Jedi temple guard.

I'm more curious in how many Kyber crystals everyone bought. Those change the Savi's, right or was that the holocrons?

They can be used in both
-
i've heard the red's are sold out. i suspect because of the 1:100 black crystal thingy.
-
It is due to the black crystal. The staff are limiting on the amount of crystals someone can buy.
Btw, I can’t stop thinking about Galaxy’s Edge. I love Batuu!

Fair warning, you'll want to go back....
I was going through tsa in San Diego. The tsa guy flagged me .... The guy at the bag check suitcase X-ray Machine was playing with lightsaber and saying he'd seen 'a lot of these recently' and asked me if there was a convention in town. Lol

Next week at this time, I will have wrapped up my reservation!
If all goes according to plan, things should be as easy as SDCC w/out doing Hall H, Ballroom 20, WB autographs, GOT offsite, TWD offsite, Funko line, Hasbro line as I’m not going for Savi’s or Oga’s.
Already planning a second visit on 6/26 and then hopefully a 3rd before SDCC.
Also been working at reading Aurebesh better.

from what i hear the reservation system at Oga's might acutally be nice- pop in for a beer type of thing- iirc the beer is $13 for a pint

The reservation system for the cantina works. Best thing ever; CM will guide everyone to the spot to make one. No need to run to the cantina.

I went last Friday and I don’t even know where to begin as far as sharing impressions, reviews and thoughts except that it is one of the greatest Star Wars related experiences one can have!!
If I weren’t local to DL/DCA and a passholder, I would definitely trade 4 days + PN at SDCC for equivalent number of days at Galaxy’s Edge. It really is that impressive!!! It impresses in huge ways like the super super detail you see all around you but also impressed you in little ways like First Order demonstration rallies being held while shopkeepers are imploring you to not listen to any of that propaganda. It impresses in subtle ways too - while you see droids everywhere and an X-wing and an A-wing not to mention the Falcon, they’re never showpieces in the way they’d be if they were at SDCC. Rather, they feel like they’re “supposed” to be there and part of the environment.
I’ll probably have more to add at a later time as everything is still sinking in! I had a really, really great time if that wasn’t evident already.

Know Before You Go: Planning Your Visit to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Resort Beginning June 24
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has been sharing the unique sights, sounds, smells and tastes of Batuu with off-worlders with reservations since May 31. As this epic new land opens starting June 24, there is so much to see and do including strolling the Black Spire Outpost Marketplace, tasting blue or green milk and taking the controls of the Millennium Falcon. Here are some great tips to help you plan your visit to the far-flung destination of Batuu, beginning June 24!
Boarding Groups
For guests wishing to live out Star Wars adventures and access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge beginning June 24, Disneyland Resort may utilize a virtual queuing system, as needed, to help everyone have a great experience. Download the Disneyland app before arriving and check the app or signage the day of your visit to find out if you will need to be part of a boarding group to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge that day. The boarding group will save you a virtual spot in line so you can enjoy other experiences while you wait to be notified of a time to enter.*
You may use the Disneyland app to request to be part of a boarding group after entering Disneyland park, if implemented that day. Simply link the theme park tickets of everyone in your party together on the app to request the same boarding group for your entire party. To see which boarding group is currently being admitted to the land, look on the app or digital signage in the park.
If you enable push notifications on your mobile device, you will be notified when it is time to enter the land. If not, continue to check the Disneyland app or digital signage in the park, and enjoy other experiences, while awaiting your boarding group. You have up to two hours to enter the land after your boarding group is called for admission, so there is no rush!
For guests not using the Disneyland app, a boarding group may be obtained with a park admission ticket at select Disney FASTPASS Service locations such as Haunted Mansion, Indiana Jones Adventure, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain or near the Matterhorn Bobsleds.
Reservations for Savi’s Workshop and Oga’s Cantina
Beginning June 24, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will no longer require a reservation to access the land, although reservations will be required for Savi’s Workshop and Oga’s Cantina, which have very limited capacities. Guests wishing to book a reservation for these experiences may do so on the same day of their visit, beginning at 7 a.m., with a valid credit card Reservations for both experiences will allow access into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at the time of the reservation, so it will not be necessary to join a boarding group, if applicable, to enter the land to participate in a reserved experience. Please visit Disneyland.com/SavisWorkshop and Disneyland.com/Cantina for important details.
Go forth, adventurers, and make the most of your visit to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge by planning ahead with these new innovative digital planning tools to access Batuu, resulting in more time to enjoy the Disneyland Resort!
*Admission to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is subject to capacity and joining a boarding group does not guarantee entry.

We’ve got some exciting news to share today with the galaxy. We’re opening Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Dec. 5 at Walt Disney World Resort. If this date sounds familiar, many of our fans will recognize it as Walt Disney’s birthday. What better way to honor the ultimate storyteller than by introducing the most immersive and advanced attraction ever imagined in a Disney Park.
When it opens, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will blur the lines between fantasy and reality and will put guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance. Guests will be recruited to join Rey and General Organa at a secret base. Along the way, they will be captured by a First Order Star Destroyer. With the help of some heroes of the Resistance, they break out and must escape the Star Destroyer, protect the secret base, and stay one step ahead of Kylo Ren.
As soon as work is completed at Walt Disney World, Imagineers will head back to California to complete their mission at Disneyland Resortwhere Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will open on Friday, Jan. 17.
Between now and then, we’ll have lots more to share about this immersive, multi-platform experience so keep checking the Disney Parks Blog for updates.

I went this year the Sunday & Monday before Comic-Con with a bunch of people in my line-up group. We had a blast! My family was in tow, so I didn't hang out with them 24/7 (they all got a BnB house I think) but it was a great time to hang out before SDCCI. A few folks bought lightsabers, and they all went to the Cantina one evening.
I highly recommend it; we all had a blast (though I don't know how comfortable the rental SUV was from Anaheim-SD with all those folks crammed in) :P

Yeah I'm an Annual Passholder and I've been to D-Land WAY more this summer than I typically go during the summer! I've easily gone 5 times (though twice with Reservations before it opened to the public); I rode he Falcon ride 6 times the first day I went during the 'soft opening' alone! It really is a fun place for a Star Wars nerd; can't wait for the other ride to open!!
-
We're going to Galaxy's Edge next weekend, yay!
Of course I'm just now looking into the details and was only able to get a reservation for the Cantina at 8:20am. I took it, of course, but I'm wondering if there's a chance we can get in later in the day?
The lightsaber experience has availability before 9:15am. But I don't need a $200 lightsaber, lol.
Does anyone have any tips from a recent visit?
-
That's odd... when we went just before SDCC they only took Oga's reservations on the same day, starting at 7 am. You may want to try logging in at 7 am on the day you want to visit and looking for a reservation.

Reservations and Cancellation Policies
https://disneyland.disney.go.com/dining/disneyland/ogas-cantina/
Reservations
The Oga’s Cantina experience is subject to availability and reservations are highly recommended as walk-ins will be very limited. Separate theme park admission is also required.
A valid, accepted credit card number is required at the time of booking. You must cancel at least one day prior to your reservation to avoid a per person cancellation fee. If you fail to timely cancel and are a no-show, the credit card provided at the time of reservation will be charged $10 per person.
Reservations for Oga’s Cantina can be made up to 14 days in advance. Additional same-day reservations will be made available each day at 7:00 AM Pacific Time for visits that day, subject to availability.

Cancellations

Yeah they changed the policy when crowds weren't as crazy as they originally anticipated. Now that process is similar to their regular reservation process.

That's a great idea! Cancellations have to be made a day in advance so maybe we can snag a later entry. If not we'll go with it and enjoy our bloody marys :D

I can concur we had a blast!!!! Just added to the whole SDCC experience meeting up with friends from all over the world to do Disneyland for a couple of days prior. Believe after us talking it up at the con our numbers will double for next year, especially with Rise of the Resistance and (hopefully) the new Marvel land open. Think after SDCC would be just as good as well, all depends on timing.

Yes, my understanding is that they are going to make it like a cruise experience, where food and entertainment are included. The cost per person goes down significantly if you put 4 or 5 people in a room.

If it's $3300 per person or a 5-person cabin for $7200... that's still $720 per person per night at the cheapest. Wow. Well, never doing that unless I win the lottery.

I already started saving for it. It may take a while but I am going to this resort!

If you all are willing to fly and spend that much money on a trip, do a real cruise. As much as I love Star Wars, that price is pretty ridiculous. Yes, I will try this special hotel in Orlando one day, but I bet there will be deals to try it later, so be patient.

I don't want to do a cruise though, I want to do a Star Wars Hotel. ;)

When's Designer Con? I'm in the early-middle stages of HS marching band season and it feels like I'm in need of my D-Land fix in the near future (albeit on a Sunday since that's my only free day between now and the week of Thanksgiving :-X )

Dcon is the weekend before thanksgiving. I've got an ap flex pass so i can book Sat & Sun admission & just go in for a couple of hrs- not the full day. I don't think the second ride is open till Dec. tho.

Rise of the Resistance is scheduled to open at Disneyland in January. It will open in December at WDW.

We had a small little lightsaber gathering last Friday night in the Galaxy's Edge FB and discord groups (I'm team blue way in the back underneath the right red light of the Falcon. We had taken a photo already when the stormtroopers arrived to ask for our identification ;) When none of us complied, they decided to just join us.
Any DLR locals interested in our next one? You're more than welcome to join in! A significant number of people in the photo weren't even members of either group but random people that passed by or that the organizers had invited on the streets of Batuu.
Since my last post in this thread, I've gone an insane number of times (over 10!), built my first droid, built my first Savi's saber, fixed my Savi's saber with teflon tape since my pieces did not align very well. I'm still a terrible Millenium Falcon pilot however, never getting more than 5,000 on 3 attempts. Although I did have terrible gunner and engineer crewmates, I still take the blame.

Ughhh I can't wait til this opens in Disneyland in January. With the various ride mechanics and from the videos I've seen so far, this has to be the most ambitious ride that the Imagineering team has ever created. I'm so hyped now!
-
Have you guys heard about the massive crowds and 'instantly sold out boarding passes' needed for Rise of the Resistance at CE in Florida? Amazing! I will be very curious to see how it works when the ride opens in California in January. Amusingly, the things people at WDW have to do in order to get onto this ride sound like child's pay to we SDCC vets. ;)
In more amusing news, these are the new GE baby changing station signs...

Disneyland to use virtual queue for new Rise of the Resistance ride
Star Wars fans anxious to experience Rise of the Resistance will need to book a time to ride the highly anticipated new attraction just after they step foot in Disneyland.
Disneyland plans to use the virtual queuing system when Rise of the Resistance opens to the public on Jan. 17, officials said.
The ground-breaking new Rise of the Resistance attraction in the 14-acre Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge themed land combines four ride experiences into one.
The Rise of the Resistance virtual queue at Disneyland may work differently than the system employed at Disney’s Hollywood Studios since the attraction debuted on Dec. 5, Disney officials said.
The Florida theme park initially allowed visitors into the park early and issued Rise of the Resistance virtual queue boarding passes before the official park opening time. Walt Disney World later adjusted the policy and waited to issue boarding passes until after the official opening time of Hollywood Studios.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios has also begun issuing “back-up” boarding passes for the virtual queue to create standby groups if time and space allow for additional riders at the end of each day.
Disneyland visitors will need to log into the Disneyland app to secure a Rise of the Resistance boarding pass in the virtual queue. Push notifications will be sent to Disneyland visitors when it’s time for their boarding group to ride Rise of the Resistance.
The goal is to allow visitors to explore Disneyland attractions, restaurants and shops while waiting to experience Rise of the Resistance without having to stand in a long line. Visitors must be inside the park to select a Rise of the Resistance boarding group using the Disneyland app.
-
Our SDCC group just booked our place in Anaheim for our pre-SDCC Disneyland trip. SO excited to hit up Galaxies Edge and hopefully the new Marvel Campus before the con.
-
The Rise of the Resistance ride looks great! I'm excited to check it out. I'm glad Disney is taking steps to limit the amount of time spent standing in line.

Interesting article regarding the RotR virtual queue. It feels like it's treading into SDCC territory...

Well not sure why they keep calling it a lottery when its not....but beyond that.
Would like a virtual queue like this for panels at SDCC. Seems similar to what SXSW does with their panels. No need to wait in line for 12 hours and still not get in....wait in the virtual queue and then go in when your boarding group has room to enter.

It's a lottery in the same way that the old system for SDCC badges was a lottery... it's all based on way too many people hitting a button at an exact time.

I think it would affect the SDCC experience. You would also have the potential unintended consequence of everyone trying for every panel. You would also have to clear the rooms.

Yes clearing the room would be needed. But you could not try for every panel you would get a certain amount allowed similar to how funko and signings are handled.
Here is how SXSW does it for example (Which is way larger than sdcc). https://www.sxsw.com/attendee-services/#sxxpress

You would also be punishing people who signed up for back to back panels. They would lose their seat and be at the end of the line to get back in the room.

They would be welcome to leave the panel early....or pair up with someone not in the panel to hold their spot.
It's not perfect, nothing is. I'm just stating that this method that both Disney and SXSW use could be implemented at SDCC to help eliminate lines, especially lines you may be standing in and have no chance to get into.
For example I know I have stood in line over an hour for a panel that I did not get into, mater a fact no one in the line got in as people had filled the room 2 hours early and didn't leave. So not only did people wait with no chance to get in, but many people didn't get to see the earlier (lower demand) panels as people were just filling seats to have them later in the day.

I tried for the ROTR boarding groups this past Saturday and got group 128 which was never called.
I’ll be trying again this Friday and then again next Tuesday. I just have to say though that it’s an extremely stressful process, almost like if you had to do SDCC registration with hundreds of people around you and then within 2 minutes the process is over.

From 1-82(ish) are guaranteed, and then they also give out a slew of "only up to 82 is guaranteed but if things go well _maybe_ we'll get to your number" - kind of like a 'standby' number. I think they go up to about 110 before they start issuing the "we're all out for the day" messages, and it looks like they sound messaging out to the effect of "we're not going to get to your number today" to the standby numbers by a certain time. I have Annual Passes for the fam (for now; when they expire in a few months I don't think we'll renew) and I'm on a few different FB groups following all of this stuff.

the rest of disney holds very little interest for me.
i keep thinking i'll head up someday mid week & try for it. But i'm going to try and time it for a dead day //HA

My visit was at Disneyland btw. I’m off from work tomorrow and will be attempting again, this time with 2-3 devices trying to get into the server. Since you can be let into Main Street 30 minutes before opening, I’ll try to use the time to run connection speed tests and hopefully that will help. Gotta put the extensive experience with virtual queues to use, right? I just have to get on the ride, especially if I overhear so many Star Wars Muggles screaming about how it’s one of the greatest things they’ve ever experienced.

How do you use multiple devices? Is it just you or will there be other people in your group?
I'm going next month and should probably figure this all out before I get there, lol
-
So I got on Rise of the Resistance last Friday with boarding group #38. Turns out that I didn’t even use the extra devices I brought to try to log on.
Easily, easily one of the greatest Star Wars related, or any fandom for that matter, experiences one could ever have!!!! The level of immersion is unbeatable and when you see things like the Rey’s mission briefing to you via holonet , you’re convinced it’s real. It’s not special effects of Daisy Ridley playing Rey reading a script to you, it’s Rey herself addressing you the Resistance recruit. Easily one of the greatest fandom experiences you can ever have, do everything you can to have a chance to experience it!

Pretty happy Smugglers Run was added to fast pass. Switched to that on Thursday before they all filled up for my trip in March.

Just talked to a reliable source/employee who tells me it'll be open in June: they said, "_DEFINITELY_ open before pre-Comic-Con weekend" (I asked about specific dates).
-
Typically, when Disney says 'summer', they mean around memorial Day. At least, that is their target., This is true for both the California and Florida parks.
This being said, there is always the possibility of construction delays, technical issues, etc. So nothing is official until it is announced. But I think it is likely that it would be open late May/early June.

Since they announced they were closing I went ahead and cancelled my hotel and flight. I know it says just til the end of the month but there’s a good chance it would be extended, at least enough of a chance that I don’t want to risk it and end up in California with nothing to actually do. Ugh. Now to figure out where I’m going to fly to by the end of the year to use my Southwest credit.

Never say never! We are holding onto our reservations and plan to be at Disneyland if the park is open. As of now, April is a go, and therefore so are we.
-
Looks like we won't be going to Disneyland... all Disney parks in North America closed 'until further notice'.
-
i'm still paying on my Annual pass. it's due to expire at the end of May.
If the park is closed till then, I'll have at least be 2 months of disney once it opens up again.

@Louie_rob_m (https://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2173) thanks for the kind words
just be sure that if Rise is a goal to make sure to know how they are doing the first sign up. Like I said they just changed it so that the queue opens at 7AM and you don't have to be in the park but just need a ticket registered for HS that day
also with regards to Savi's make sure to play around with it a lot in the park, I am having a few hiccups with what I bought, I am in contact with CS so expecting a positive resolution but I would be hesitant to go as hogwild as I did, definitely get 1 though
