Two free comicfest offsites this Sunday.

It's happening at the same time as the Eisner event at the museum.  It bewilders me a bit since last year the event at the museum meshed right into comicfest.

yeah that puzzeled me too. i ended up choosing to go the two Rays.  Huge fan of Harryhausen (sp?-- yes i did that from memory), i can not count the number of times i watched the 7 voyages of Sinbad,

i don't think the overlap was intentional tho. or perhaps it was unavoidable.

Last year it wasn't just the timing, they gave away something at the museum event that paid off when we brought it to comicfest.  When I showed up at comicfest they asked me if I brought it and I said no.  There's a lot of overlap between people that show up at comic-con and comicfest.  They shook their heads.  I brought it the next day.  It did pay off.

sdcomicfest Bradbury is from Mars. The Eternaut is from Argentina: National Identity and the Invasion Narrative (Palm B) Sunday, Mar 8th, 2020 10:00 AM

The panelists will compare the narratives and themes of The Eternaut and The Martian Chronicles; discussing how aspects of national identity, such as the U.S.' foundational myth of Manifest Destiny or Argentina's history of military authoritarianism, influenced their respective narratives. Secondly, we will examine how their countries of origin responded to the cultural and political critiques presented therein. While The Martian Chronicles' "There Will Come Soft Rains" was adapted by EC in 1953, it is doubtful that story, or many other chapters, would have received a Comics Code Authority Seal by the end of that decade.

Panelists: @Alex Grand, Norman Scott Robinson and Jim Thompson.

Did anyone go to this today?  I stopped by shortly after 3pm and I didn't see anything.  I missed it.

sdcomicfest This Saturday at San Diego Comic Fest @thelegalgeeks are presenting the Child Custody Hearing of "The Child." Place your bets, will the Mandalorian keep custody or do we need to send in some child protective service guys on speeder bikes?

So with deep and profound regret I will have to sit out ComicFest this year.  I hate everything about that decision but it feels like the appropriate choice.  My apologies to all involved and those attending; I will atone in future.
