sdcomicfest Comic History: The Supermobile and The Spider-Mobile.A couple years ago at San Diego Comic Fest, Special Guest @buzz_dixon_writer treated us to a very amusing lesson in comic history. Some fans may remember the ill-fated Supermobile and Spider-Mobile toys. These were done by toy companies to advertise products. The companies came to an arrangement with Marvel and DC where these vehicles must be present in the comics for a set number of months in order to reach the deal.DC crafted a full story in the pages of Action Comics where Superman lost his ability to fly and made full use of a very goofy Supermobile that had fists that punched out. He used the Supermobile in all its ridiculous glory until the obligation was met.Meanwhile, in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man. Spidey encounters a pair of men who offer him a sum of money to drive a Spider-Mobile. He ends up crashing it into walls because he doesn't know how to drive, it gets destroyed by super villains and just ends up in a junkyard for most of the scenes. To this day the Spider-Mobile pops up every now and then as a joke being mocked by kids, traveling across the country in Old Man Logan and it showed up in Into The Spider-Verse. But he did fulfill his obligation to the toy company even if he did make fun of them for being a sellout.
