I’ve done both and parking under convention center is nice, you can take all your stuff back to your car and relax for a bit. You save money by having a hotel that’s not downtown and cheap con parking. If you have a hotel downtown it’s nice you can relax just walk back and forth. Sometimes you may get a little too comfortable at your room and take a nap that leads to missing out on some things. Raise your hand if you’ve done that

Been there, done that too. I missed a panel I wanted to go to because I was just going to lie down for a few minutes because of the beginning of a migraine and boom I was out. Love how I can't get to sleep in ideal situations, but get me in a situation where I can nap and I'm out.

___

I really just want to know when the sale is so that I can alert work that I'll be in late that day. Sure, I could do it FROM work, but it doesn't feel the same and I'd be stressed about even more than just the sale (which is ALREADY stressful enough.)

Edit:

Yay new hotels. I'm not sure they'll be on my list, but any amount of additional rooms is helpful at this point.

Assuming they'll actually be in the lottery OR available for direct, reasonable reservations (which it looks like at least one isn't directly available.) I'm still unclear as to what actually happened with the Pendry and hope this is not another repeat.

I'm definitely not putting any of the new hotels on my list, if they're available. I'm going for tried-and-true hotels, and only after I've heard others have had success "winning" one of the new hotels will I consider them for next time.

Also, apparently the exhibitors have already had their hotel sale. I saw a couple tweets from some of them getting their downtown hotels set for SDCC already.

Yea we all have a reason to be close to the con..<----- New Dad.... So everyone good luck! Does everyone here have a backup plan or everyone on this site extremely lucky with hotels and parking?

My backup will be Shelter Island (which gets NO love).

I stayed there my first year because I didn't know anything about the hotel sale.  I stayed at Humphreys Half Moon Inn.  It was a very nice hotel, and it's on the shuttle route.  I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get a room if I absolutely don't get anything downtown.  And that's even waiting for cancellations up until the end of May.  I know this because my first year, as I was checking in, a couple MADE A RESERVATION AT THE DESK!!!    ??? They paid $100/night more than me (I couldn't help but over hear this).

So...that's my backup plan .  :) :)

I was just on the Guild hotel website, and it says they're not opening until May 2019, so it seems unlikely they'll be part of the CCI sale. There's no place to reserve a room at all yet. If May 2019 was an estimate, they might not even be open quite yet by the Con.

For some reason I had no idea that exhibitors had a separate sale until just now.  Anyone know what that’s like? Are all the same hotels available?

Yep, same hotels with a limited block per hotel for them.

Good to hear there are limited blocks! That makes sense or otherwise the Bayfront would be entirely booked before the rest of us got to it.

I totally will give Shelter Island love. The first ever time I stayed at a hotel for SDCC (that wasn't part of the lottery), was when I stayed at Shelter Island. I was at Humphrey's Half Moon Bay. Great place!

Dec 5 sounds super early.  Nice for them to be able to get all settled and get prepared before con.
It is 2024, and I am still asking...where's my flyin' car??!! @fannishmarcia

If things go like last year, there will be plenty of chances to grab a downtown hotel or adjacent to the convention center. I have some numbers and dates from last year:

May 3rd - HBF MGH go up, 5 plus rooms

May 10th - 11th MGH goes up, 5 plus rooms

June 6th HBF goes up, to 4 rooms

June 7th HR, Andaz, Embassy, courtyard 5 plus rooms

June 25th HR, GRANT, INDIGO, OMNI up 4 rooms

So yeah :)
I had gotten the U.S. Grant on the second wave but then cancelled and grabbed  MGH on May 3rd.

Hope this helps:D
