If you're new to lyft or the lately controversial uber keep an eye out for incentives. Last year we got a new user credit that covered everything we needed.

Does anyone know about shuttles with the downtown hotels? Only one I know of is the Residence Inn Downtown (the Little Italy one) but while they will take you to the airport I don't know if they would pick you up. (It's not an airport shuttle, just an anywhere-reasonably-close shuttle, pretty cool.)

I stayed at the Residence Inn Downtown last year and they would have picked us up from the airport, but they close their hotel shuttle down at around 10pm if I remember correctly.  They did reimburse us for the cab ride.  I thought that was VERY nice of them!
It is 2024, and I am still asking...where's my flyin' car??!! @fannishmarcia

Take the bus.  There's a line that runs from the airport through downtown.  Normally, it's about a 10 minute ride from the airport to Santa Fe station.

There's an airport stop for the Trolley.  It is at the airport kinda.  It's on the other side of the tarmac from where the terminal buildings are but there's a shuttle.  It's the midtown stop.  You should be able to walk it too.  Often I thought about hoping off there and walking to the terminals before it became the official airport stop.

Thanks! That isn't too bad. Uber was about $10 there and $6 back. (They have a surcharge for rides originating at the airport, but not drop-offs.)

That seems about right.  I recently had to take a taxi from Old Town to the Gaslamp and it was about $18.  Old Town is further away.  Beware of surge pricing on Uber which can really jump the prices.  It might be pretty surgy during Comic Con.
