Title: SDCC Funko Fundays 2019
Post by: mattytreks on April 16, 2019, 03:16:36 PM
When will Funko Fundays 2019 be announced?
What will the theme be this year?
Will Funko use a lottery system for this year's Fundays sale, versus the current "fastest finger" method?

All of these burning questions (and more) should be answered in due time.

Meanwhile, this is our placeholder to talk about anything & everything Fundays 2019!

Haha! I was just looking at the off topic funko thread and wanted to post about Fundays but refrained! Last year they released tickets in May, so at least that looks like it's the next thing on the SDCC list!

Yes, indeed!  Tix went on sale in 2017 on 5/17, and last year on 5/22 – so it’s right around the corner.

Been lucky enough to go 3 out of the last 4 years and hopefully! Will be able to again!

I hope the theme is better this year..I loved the 80s vibe but I don't want stranger things so lost and uninterested for a good part of the party

If we're lucky (and we get in again) I can see a Star Wars motif...Pop!s running the range from all the movie's as the last one is December...

excited to hear about this as well.  been pretty fortunate to go to the last 3.  my mentality is much healthier that going is a bonus not a right.  like driving.

driving privileges.  not driving rights lol

Am I really weird in thinking that it would go down easier if it was creamed corn? Would still be really disgusting though.

Not weird at all, creamed corn would have been a lot easier. The main issue with the canned corn is that they drain the liquid out so it's pretty dry and gets difficult to swallow.

Last year was the first year I tried, just refreshing that twitter account. Is there something else I should be doing? I already had an evenbrite account. This year I also made an account at funko.com and signed up for the newsletter. Where is this forum to get status/presale entry? Thanks

With no post I am not sure if the forum will get presale anymore.  Historically you had to be on the board 1 year and have 100 posts.

It's been flooded lately though so I wonder if they are going a different way.

I cannot handle another year of refreshing for 4 hours,  they should be ashamed of doing that.

Last year was complete madness, and I'm sure there are so many similar stories out there.

During sale day last year, from like 9:30am Pacific Time on, I literally sat in a conference room at work, blocked out the rest of the day, and stared painfully into my laptop screen which had Funko's Twitter page up, doing my very best not to blink or even look away.  Running to and from the bathroom around Noontime was among the most stressful moments of my con career.

I ended up scoring two tickets, but my eyes hurt that evening...and I felt drained from the experience.

I'm certainly up for doing that again, but if Funko does in fact decide to go the route of a lottery system, I would not be terribly upset at my chances diminishing considerably.  I mean, I've gone twice in a row now, and there are quite literally tens (perhaps hundreds) of thousands of people that yearn to attend.

A significant part of my good memories are not even from the event, but rather dressing up in 80's gear and hanging out with you and the rest of the FoCC crew in line :)

LOLOL!  I totally remember that!  It was during the sales window not long before the actual Eventbrite Tweet went out.  One of the greatest troll moments of all-time.

We all looked great!  The line time is the best part, once you get in it's hard to socialize.

The music was so much fun.  I think [member=3729]racheva[/member] and I danced the entire night!

I hope I can be more lucky and get a ticket this year... I remember having to be up all night and not sleeping before going to work last year and missing out anyway. Its hard to be fast enough when you are half asleep because its the middle of the night. Hopefully they won't make us wait for so many hours this year haha

Tell us something we don't know, haha!

Quote
Who would be interested in some quick details?

When? July 19
How much? $140/ticket
Will a group of Funatics have a chance to purchase tickets before the general sale? Yes

Funko is being very generous in setting aside a subset of tickets for engaged Funatics. More information to come very, very soon!

Please allow me to debunk that myth.  I am neither a Funatic forum power-user, nor have a fiber connection.

I was just very diligent last year in monitoring Twitter.  The TUMBLEBEE password requirement very nearly got me, but I recovered in time to get tickets.

This is not true.  Anyone can be a Funko Funatic member, it's a group of people like this community that has come together.  I have met so many amazing people on the forum.  A lot overlap with this forum.  No privileged needed, just a love of the product and the community!

It is, but a year and 100 posts can pretty much be done in your sleep.  It's not that the people are privileged, it's that they want to be there.

But like any other forum you really only benefit from being around and participating.  That is true of this forum.  Anyone can join and read the information but your life is enriched by sticking around and talking to people.  The more you get to know people the more they want to help you out and vice versa.

As for the first come first serve public sale that is just how anything for con is.  You have to be fast or it sells out.

what she said lol.

what does draw on the nerves though is people joining there (or maybe here) almost purely to get perks and not being veiled about it at all.  but that is a 2 hour power point presentation i can give at another time.  entitlement in situation in life bothers me.

To be fair, the year and 100 posts is just the basic requirement.

Last year people with less than ~500 posts didn't get offered a ticket sadly. (me included)  :'(

My friend had under 400 and got tickets.  But yes I think they then take an average of all posts to determine who will get tickets.  This makes sense because they are looking for those who are active on the forum and not someone who created an account to just get tickets every year.  100% not saying that is what you did, but we both know a lot did.  I do realize that their method will still exclude some, unfortunately, that can't be prevented.  It is a fair way to distribute the tickets though.

The minimum post count has varied from year to year. I’ve seen 100 and 500...one year it was 500 at first and then they did not get as many people to sign up as they thought, so they lowered it. As NCDS said, there has also been a minimum time...sometimes one, sometimes two years. I have also seen them make exceptions but those are usually people they are already friendly with, not people who join at the last minute in the hopes of making the cut.

Their minimum requirements are not any more of a sign of privilege than, say, the FoCC minimum requirements to join the hotel exchange, in my opinion.

Absolutely, I only had ~300 posts, I wasn't saying I was at 500. Just that the 100 is a very very bare minimum to even enter.

Well your only option this year is general sale.  And 2020 as well.  If it is like previous years you would need to have registered for an account this year in 2019 before May 1st.  Because no matter how many posts you plan to make you will still not have a star by May 2020.

So if you go by this year and previous year's criteria you won't be eligible until 2021.  And that is just to be eligible for the lottery.  Just because you meet criteria to enter does not mean you will get tickets either.

Also keep in mind there still exists the possibility of a lottery for the Fundays general sale, as well.

being active helps for sure, but nothing is guaranteed till you actually get an email. also they only started doing funatic presale in 2017. 2016 was my 1st year going to fundays and i got lucky during the public sale and got 2 tickets. also in 2016 i just started collecting and hadn't heard of the funatic forums till someone on FOCC mentioned it that year.

I am not sure if I understand your definition of jumping through hoops.  Funko is the most fan-friendly and engaging toy company I have ever seen.  They are trying to give priority to those that they consider their most die-hard fans who also contribute to their fan community.  Being on their official forum for one year and having 100 posts is not really outrageous and hardly a hoop but maybe we have different definitions or expectations.

I just base  my two cents on availability and comparing them to Lego. I believe they still base their business model on artificial availability and hype. Again that is just my opinion.

Sounds like the funatic community isn't the place for you and that's fine.  Just remember to be respectful of those who have found it to be a great place to be.  If we were all into all the same things life would probably always just be overcrowded and exhausting. Dare I say even boring.

Respectfully I would like to comment on this if you don't mind.

1)  not sure what you mean about artificial availability.  i find the funko website similar to the "requirements" here declared or not in terms of sdcc hotel sharing.  its not the perfect way of addressing people who come here or there only when sdcc hotels or fundays comes around.  but it's better than nothing.

2)  what business model are you referring to ?  in my opinion (and yeah it's just mine).  if funko wanted to have a "better" business model aimed at attracting new customers they wouldn't do it this way.  for a lot of us we feel like they are trying to take care of their core fan base and it is more than appreciated by most of us.  the problem comes down to entitlement over there, and here to be honest.

oh i have been here for x number of years with x number of posts.  i "deserve" something.  if anything it's this population of people that would make me want to stop doing it.  because it's something (here and there) they do to try to take care of people who contribute to the community and then they get crapped on.  i really see a lot of similarities between the fundays situation over there and the hotel help situation on this forum.

Last year, the Funatic pre-sale closed on Mon 5/7 and the general sale was on Tues 5/22.

If the same timeline holds true this year, we are looking at a general sale date of two weeks from tomorrow -- Tues 5/21.

Tentatively mark your calendars, people :)

I will say that the post had 5/7 instead of 5/6 (today), which was updated sometime during the weekend. I even have proof it was 5/7. Oh well...

I will say this: email confirmation is a must for next year after submitting.

Good Points.. Comparing the way Lego of do things. Lego seems more accessible and friendly. It's gear toward new fans and also target young fans. But then I see Funko as more of a Collectible Company(like a baseball card company) then a Toy Company.  Yea maybe I am just comparing apples to oranges...

Thanks for the bumps here!  I hadn't been on Funko all weekend!  Hope I make the cut this year.  Didn't last year, but went the two years before and had a blast.

I hope that the calculation is a bit more systematic.  I mean, someone creating an account, say five years with a count of 500 from five years ago and no recent activity seems to have a better chance of getting picked than someone new with recent activity of 100 count, that is trying to get to know people and be active.

Just like I say this is one man's opinion...and also trying to get first timers to understand that it is not that easy to get into this event and plan accordingly.

Can't the same be said about Comic-Con itself? You need to register for a member ID by a specific time, jump through hoops in order to make sure you know the rules (and to get a better chance, jump through even more hoops to join a buying group and figure out how they work), and people who went the previous year get an extra privilege.

I would love to actually see how they do it!  However, my guess is the marketing team does it and not math majors.  So I guess it really depends on how data can be pulled from the forum.  I am assuming that it just pulls final post count and day last active.   If it can pull activity by year then things could really be different.  But then can they set the time frame or does the system automatically do calendar year.  They could also just decide we are going random this year.

So really all we can do is enter and hope for the best.  I do like guessing how it's done though.

Thank you to those who have shared their waitlist stories I am glad that there is hope when you don’t buy tickets. I have been one of the few who have gotten tickets into the cart but have not been able to check out in time before they sold out. Waitlisted and haven’t gotten in. Just my luck but praying I get a chance to get tickets this year

Lol I can assure you that you are not one of the few but one of the many who've made it to the cart only to have them sold out.  I'm in the same boat hoping for an email for presale this year or worst case try for general sale when that opens up and hopefully luck out.

The thrill of getting tickets to Fundays is quite memorable.

The thrill of getting tickets to Fundays off the waitlist?  I can't imagine the emotions, but I'm sure an epic freakout would be in order!

Some of it would be fun, but there is a decent potion of the night taken up by product announcements and the awards ceremony for the funkofunatic board.

That sounds so spontaneous and fun!

See, I’m a local and with that, am rather spoiled.

I truly, deeply appreciate the effort out-of-towners put into the planning and logistics needed to make attending a Comic-Con a fun and memorable experience.

I mean, I spend plenty of time each year posting to Twitter, FoCC, and the Robot Japan forum.

I guess I need to spend more time posting on the Funko forums, as well, if I want to significantly increase my chances of attending Fundays (via the pre-sale).  Only a few posts each day, for the next year -- that's not too hard, is it? :)

I didn't get in - 1 star, little over 300 posts - but since next year is my last SDCC and FunDays is on my bucket list, I am going to do the same thing. 3-4 posts a day for a year will get me over 1000, hopefully that's enough :)

Very nice!

I’ll see you there! And yes, so glad Funko does this. I am curious to see what happens next year, though.

A quick heads up, if your going to Fundays keep your car parked where it is unless your Hotel is closer to the MGH as they charge $100.00 for guest parking. Just a heads up.

Wut?  I parked in the MGH garage in 2017 on Fundays night and very clearly remember being charged $60 – which by all accounts isn’t cheap, but it’s also not $100, haha.

Current rate if bought through Parkwiz/ABM is $65.  Maybe day-of or drive-up prices are more?

I can tell you exactly when: it was at 1:01pm Pacific Time last year, which was 3 hours and 1 minute into the 4-hour window.

With this year’s window “only” being 3 hours, it appears Funko has chosen to be a bit more merciful :)

Really not necessary, because you will have 15 minutes to complete your purchase after getting lucky. Tickets are on hold for that amount of time unless things have changed. So far, it hasn’t.

hi, this will be my first (and probably only) time trying as coming from the UK to SDCC and probably wont do it again, so I'd really love to go to fundays, although I think its looking unlikely.

I've read through this whole thread and was wondering if anyone had any tips?

better to use phone or laptop?
Refresh twitter every 5 seconds or just have notifications on for Funko? etc...

Thanks

Where you do it doesn’t matter just make sure you’re on WiFi. the password will be random prob one of their products but your idea is as good as mine. No real tips other than make sure you spell it exactly as they post it.

I mean, a hardwired internet connection is probably your best bet, versus being on wifi.

But for sure, you definitely need internet

I’ve never tried but from what I’ve read last year was about 3 hours into the 4 hour window they gave. This heat it’s only a 3 hour window though. I suspect they’ll go later rather than sooner into the 3 hours as the whole point of it is to not have so many people all trying at once as they would have if they gave one specific time such as the start time they’ve given. Hope this helps

PW has only been done once and it was 3 hours into a 4 hour window. That said; the windows been reduced to 3 hours this years so who knows. Hopefully early some people have jobs asking to carve out 3 hours mid day to monitor is obnoxious.

There is irony in the chilled atmosphere at my office today.  Perhaps a bit of parallelism with the calm before the storm of the general sale tomorrow?

Although I must say...the build-up to last year's general sale felt bigger -- much bigger.  That surely had to do with the fact it was a 20th Anniversary year coupled with the imminent release of Funko's documentary, 'Making Fun'.

Another distinction this year is that we had a full-on theme reveal prior to the general sale, whereas last year the Prom theme wasn't unveiled until just a few weeks prior to the event.  We then only received a week's notice about the epic Stranger Things tie-in (I still think about that coveted Gold Hopper, haha).

On that note, what are your thoughts on the Tiki theme?  Do you think that will translate into Tiki-themed Freddy's, or just be the theme of the decor/drinks/entertainment?  I am certainly intrigued by it!  I can totally see hula hoop contests, fire-dancing, hula dancing, etc.

You cannot change them. The name on the ticket must match the name of the attendee per their rules. Also I find it a little odd that a twitter account with a similar name to yours  is doing some suspect fake eventbrite setups.

Nope, last year they asked me for my ID and the card I paid with at the door to verify. They also checked my +1's ID to make sure he hadn't bought tickets.

Apparently people last year somehow botted tickets and they were making sure they couldn't get in.

It's been a couple of years since I'm gone for Funko tickets (and I've never actually succeeded in the years that I've tried), so apologies in advance for this ELI5 question:

Does every ticket come with a +1, or is that a separate ticket (and thus an additional charge) that one can purchase?

Someone took the time to photoshop a fundays poster to say fandays for some reason. Also changed the text in the description to be almost verbatim what funkos was. It’s just super sketchy.

Hey [member=4657]nootheroptions[/member] that is mine and those are just test events that I use to practice. I’m not sure how they were found though bc I don’t have followers and this account is solely used for me to practice. If the images are inappropriate bc of the likeliness, I will change that moving forward. Again, I’m being fully honest bc I’m not trying to screw anybody over, all I’m doing is trying to practice for tmro with as much detail as is think there would be tmro.

Thanks for your reply but I think my original question was misunderstood. I didn’t plan to change the name after purchase or try to have someone attend in place of.. my question is can a parent buy the ticket (with their cc info) but list the child’s name as the attendee (who doesn’t have a cc). All address info would still be the same. It’s just the owner of the credit card being used is not the person who will be attending. I’m not sure if this is even possible, but this is why I was asking.

Why did you photoshop the poster? That looked super sketchy. You are clearly setting up scripts. It’s not hard to spot.  As far as billing goes I don’t know I believe the billing needs to match the acct.

I really don’t know how to do scripts lol, I wish I knew just for my own benefit but I really have no idea. The picture was just bc I really didn’t think anyone was going to see it. If I’m good at anything, it’s photoshop so don’t mind my personal reasons of trying to do something I’m good at to make me feel better lol. Anything beyond that, there is no reason. I’ll go ahead and take that off for any future testing I do.

With that said, and related to scripts, was I really close? Lol, I really don’t have any idea but I thought scripts is more related to coding.

And thanks, I won’t try to deal with another account. Hoping to just get two then instead of just going for one

You’re overthinking this whole thing way too much.  Setting up Eventbrite Accounts?  Photoshop?  My head is spinning at the very thought.

Amigo, all you need to do is react quickly to a Tweet.  There’s nothing else to practice other than speed and diligence.

hey guys one question, eventbrite wont let me add CC info before the event, (I have never bought a ticket on eventbrite) but testing on other events, when I click buy, it says it protects my ticket for 10 min so I can enter my info without a rush, fundays works this way too? If I get in on time, click buy and get in, will it protect my ticket or do I have to speed type everything?

thanks!

If by lottery you are referring to the Funatic Forum presale, yes, those were also through Eventbrite.

Was the password case sensitive?

Another assumption here, but if you are referring to last year's password, yes, I would say it was.  It was tweeted out as 'TUMBLEBEE', so I didn't take any chances and entered it into Eventbrite in all caps.

I would definitely treat any type of password with case sensitivity.  The easiest way to guarantee your entry would be to simply copy/paste.

hey guys one question, eventbrite wont let me add CC info before the event, (I have never bought a ticket on eventbrite) but testing on other events, when I click buy, it says it protects my ticket for 10 min so I can enter my info without a rush, fundays works this way too? If I get in on time, click buy and get in, will it protect my ticket or do I have to speed type everything?

thanks!

Anyone knows something about the question I posted earlier?

If you actually get to the buying page you are supposed to have 15 minutes to complete the purchase, so you should be fine.

Why did you photoshop the poster? That looked super sketchy. You are clearly setting up scripts. It’s not hard to spot.

That's a lot of paranoia for a simple billing question.  ???

I really hope that ppl don't try and run scripts and bots later today.  Not to imply thats what the intention was behind that test page, but it does seem sketchy for sure.

Regarding those questions with changing names, etc - it just opens one up to questioning.  I know with sneakers, ppl buy "slots" and can pay someone to buy something limited.  Not saying that this is what's happening here, but all it leads to is more questions with the changing of the name thing.

Glad to hear that Funko is very strict with checking names, CC info on the tickets.

In any case, good luck to everyone trying today!

I dont get the scripts and bots thing how does that even works with a password and merely seconds to get in? isnt this sale almost bulletproof against those? password, cc check, id check...

Mondo poster drops, for example, are fraught with bots because they don’t password-protect.

I applaud Funko, however, by introducing password protection.  It virtually necessitates the human element.

To try and write a bot/script to perform that type of precise operation increases the difficulty significantly – to the extent that I doubt any will even be effective, if attempted.

ppl can easily run scrips to do all of that - I have no idea how to do it, but I know for a fact ppl do all kinds of shady stuff to get an advantage.

Ppl can look at the back-end of websites even to know beforehand what the password is, what the exact URL is...all shady stuff.

All of these reasons make it crucial that Funko is diligent about making sure they check names. CC #'s, etc etc etc at the actual event

there were plenty of shady people who got through with no hassle.  it's random.  they just can't check everyone due to time constraints.  i wish they did it during the hours in line and put a bracelet on those verified.  that would be so easy to do.

That would be a great solution!

It would also stop the ticket takers from being distracted as much. I heard that last year someone stole some of the bags of fun while they were checking IDs.

Funko also need to consider beefing up staff or security, as well.  I was there extremely early in 2017 and they had sky-high stacks of Boxes'o'fun sitting out in the open, totally unattended.  Someone could have backed up a Brinks truck and no one would have noticed.

That said, there are bad eggs out there looking to take advantage of someone or something.

Taking a vacation day in order to stay at home and try for tickets.

Anyone else take the day off?

I have failed every year but still I persist. One day I'll get lucky.
Just have to remember to actually read the password before clicking on the link and then realizing that I needed the password.

If you are at home with dynamic IP, it's easy to get a new IP address.  Just change your MAC and power cycle your modem.

If not, bounce off of a Web proxy.  Beware to never type any personal information into a Web proxy.

It's weird, when I clicked on the link the first time it went straight to waitlist.  When I clicked on my phone it asked for the password that it didn't ask for when I clicked from my desktop.  Not sure how this affects me on the waitlist.

5 seconds and a cloud of dust.  My God, those went in absolute record time.

I copy/pasted FAMILY with an extra space on my first attempt "FAMILY ".  All it took was one failed login and on the next screen, the waitlist had already appeared.

We now live in a world where Fundays tix are going to go in sub-5 seconds.

While I was not able to directly purchase due to my error, I was graciously given someone's +1.  Very happy for those that scored!! CONGRATS!

They said the same thing last year. Not true. You are competing against hundreds of thousands of other browsers, refresh rates, and server distance (on top of auto-scripts).

Per Funko last year, they decide on the password right before they tweet the link. Not decided days/weeks before.

I'm assuming that eventbrite doesn't kick someone out after the first payment failure.  Most merchants will let you cycle a few times before that.  They don't want to lose the sale.

I think the best hope of tickets right now is from cancellations.

The odds are definitely slim when you look at the previous posts funko was tweeting and how over 1 k responded. So definitely luck of the draw with refresh and seeing the word pop up. I know when I typed in the password it was definitely freezing on the page that it went right to waitlisted.

Being fair, they update the eventbrite page with the password, then tweet it out later (about a minute). So there is time where a password could be sent to someone and bought before it's supposed to be public.

On the fanatic forum it looks like 2 members saw the link ahead of time with the code, but they are not providing their source yet so until they provide it, you can't really say info was leaked. But I think they were saying it was a few minutes before funko tweeted the link out.

Now when you click on the funko link for eventbrite you don't even need to put in the code to be added to the waitlist either.

I had the link like 20min after the ticket sale started.  Funko slowly updated the page adding the graphics, etc.  Around 2:49pm the PW prompt showed up.  Regardless, I still didn't get any tickets.  The PW hung up for a bit after I submitted, when I added to cart it also hung up and then just kicked me out to wait list.

Dis.Pops posted a screenshot of his tickets before the password had even been tweeted out.  There's also posts from Twitter Bots showing the "success" they had botting tickets.

It really is frustrating.  The password prompt was only up for about 5 seconds before the password was tweeted out.  But we all know 5 seconds is a huge amount of time to checkout for Fundays tickets if you had the password beforehand considering tickets sold out in about 5-10 seconds once the password was made public.

I think we all need to assess our level of desire to go to Fundays each year, and if we truly do want to attend, by far the easiest path is increasing our Funatic forum post count.

I, for one, will be committing to getting my post count WAY up over the next year.

Relying on the general sale or gracious friends offering their +1 just isn’t going to cut it, anymore.

I have no desire to stare at a monitor for 2+ hours again for a five-second mad dash.  Especially if the system is being exploited.

Can't see them going full lottery on both sides especially since the funatic side has a lot of people who meet the threshold but only become more active during this point in time.  Can see them offering up more tickets to highly active/long time member funatics and lowering the number for general.  It is a private party after all so they make their own rules in the end and only have to answer to themselves.

There was definitely chatter going around during the past year of Funko possibly going to a lottery this year -- something I alluded to in my very first post in this thread.  That clearly did not happen and I'm fine with that.

But I want to take a bit more control of my destiny and focus on the Funatic forum.

One thing's for sure though, upping my posts at Funatic is not going to cause me to post here any less.  This is my favorite forum for so many reasons :)

No one has the PW before and even if they did it wouldn’t have mattered. The PW page didn’t change till directly before it went up for sale. You guys gotta call down. There’s no conspiracy here; there was just ALOT of people who wanted tickets. Sneakerheads love getting people worked up over nothing.

It’s called fake success. It’s fairly common. Sneaker groups do it all the time. It’s to boost their membership numbers. Funko garage has already been caught lying before. Funko Dojo only knew when the eventbrite page changed because they were tipped off. That’s an advantage but no one had the PW early. Even if you had it IMMEDIATELY after the PW prompt uploaded you had less than 30 seconds advantage.

I had a choice on whether to spend 3 hours looking at a screen and refreshing all the time, and I decided it was not worth it. I also thought it was really annoying of funko to post non stop during that window.

Phone alerts are too slow. The twitter app has a roughly 6-7 second delay after being live. By then it was too late. Funko did it much worse last year they kept trolling.

Here? Or where? Funko no off topic does not count. I believe some forums here posts don’t count either.

I believe posts count for the products of funko categories: pops, vinyl, dorbz sections etc, within those posts are sub categories that count what other members are posting if you reply to those comments.

What if it comes with a Venti Chai Latte, non fat, no water, no foam?

As for me, I may already be dead. I haven’t checked my pulse recently....

That's what did me in. My PC snagged while refreshing and I got the password via the phone notification. I was fast enough to get the two tickets prompt but got caught on the Eventbrite error page. Still bummed about it hahah.

For the record, is anyone able to confirm nor deny that inputting “family” in lowercase (versus uppercase) actually worked for the general sale's password yesterday?

He said *after* the ticket sale started – not before.

Someone from Funatics board leaked the link after the ticket sale started but before Funko tweeted the link and password

I was hoping to go because SDCC aligns with my bday (the Saturday before) and I'm a bridesmaid all that weekend so I was going to celebrate in San Diego. Will have to find something else fun to do (shouldn't be hard at all).

thanks!

If you want a good seat, then plan on getting there about 3 hours before hand.  If you are fine sitting wherever get there about an hour early, that gives you time to get food and do any pre-show games they may have. Then I want to say it lasts till 11ish.

Agree with Ben.

I will add that Funatics are a passionate bunch; as such expect a line to start forming as early as the morning – although I’m not advocating for this.

Our group will line up no more than two hours prior to doors open :)

I agree. I would estimate the event to finish around 1115pm-1130pm.
In 2018, they let us linger for a while in the ballroom until approximately midnight while the workers cleaned up.

Just a little memory of how brutal it used to be at Funko Fundays! I had it in my hands and some jerk ripped it away from me, this is all I have left from my Wacky Wobbler. It was Savage! 2 POPS landed near me and I grabbed one and let someone else grab the other. The other person told me to give him both and tried to rip it from my hands. I was like nope. The box is somewhat damaged on my old school Freddy The Hulk. I'm so glad they don't do that any more.

Horrible !!!  Talk to the hand that you were left with.

I've been to 15 Fundays and this'll be my 16th this year going, for the first 11 Fundays it was always 200 or less people, until they started selling tickets online and then it kept doubling every year till we are at max capacity, for the first 11 Fundays it was always the same people except a handful newer people, when it opened to selling to everyone it let all the college crazy people in, and flipper galore. I know it was going on before that but it was civilized you could leave your stuff on the table and get food socialize and even use the bathroom without ever having to worry leaving your stuff on the table. Today I keep all my stuff secured under the table tied to my legs, there's lurkers everywhere, and it's way to many people to control or police. I personally wish they would go the old way, everyone was aboard member, rather than who had a faster connection, so you could banish people getting out of hand, and other stuff trying to steal others stuff. At least they are making it fair bringing bags to each table so it's fair for everyone, before people were jumping on chairs, diving for them, and the old fashioned it's mine tug of war.

flipper galore

Last year I was standing in some random line for some random event with people who paid for their entire con by selling what they got at Funko Fundays.  Everything was sold by that night of.

My brother and I were both fortunate enough to get tickets to Fundays this year. Unfortunately due to some unforeseen scheduling conflicts our plus 1's can no longer attend Fundays. However, our plus ones are still willing to pay for their tickets as long as they get their box of fun. Therefore, we are willing to give our two +1's to somebody else for free (since you are a plus one you will need to enter the event with me and my brother) .

Even though we will need to take the Box of Fun for our friends, you will still get the appetizers, the drink tickets and any prizes you win at the event (in the past few years reports are EVERYBODY got atleast 1 giveaway item outside of their box of fun). Once again, you will NOT need to pay for the ticket.

If you are interested please message me. In the message tell me a little about yourself and your Funko collecting. We'd prefer to take dedicated collectors. You can send photos of your collection if you'd like. Also we will need your contact info eventually so we can coordinate meeting so we can enter the event together.

very interested but I guess I wonder if I will get anything besides food and drinks.

I'm assuming when they say they want "their box of fun" they mean all the items given away, not just the box.

Seems fishy to me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I can send you photos later tonight but we will be at SDCC and staying at the Manchester.  This would seriously be the cherry on top of our trip for our group.  We have 2 new people who have not attended Fundays so this would just make their trip!! Plus we have a pretty epic group costume idea!! :D

there's folks who want the 3 pop's in the box-
I'm actually going as a plus one and would prefer to not pay for a tix- so the ticket holder is paying for it & will keep the pops- One less thing for me to worry about ;)

Yeah it is kinda weird how it is the Exact same post from two years ago! LOL

I guess at the end of the day it's not a "scam" per say and it's clear what their terms are. Anyone that just wants into the party is able to this way.

The downside is it promotes the obvious behavior of ticket(And Funko?) hoarding though. I'm not a Funko collector, so don't have a horse in this race. I think people should be aware of what could be going on here though.

exactly, it's actually a little better deal then i made with my friend. But, i am not a collector, i do not want the funko's, etc.  I have been offered to keep one- and i might if it speaks to me - not for resale but because i want to remember the night.

I guess to each their own, but I see it as profiteering off of the event.

Since without someone he can't use the ticket, but with someone he gets $400+ in profit. Yes the person gets something out of it, but wouldn't the same be for a hotel room?

Ex: I have hotel A and you can have the room for free, just give me all the liquor in the minibar. (A stupid example I know, but it's the same concept of only wanting it for something that is desirable.)

I've been collecting for a few years and sure, I've encountered a few jerks but the vast majority of collectors I have met, both in person and online, have been awesome.

What rubs me the wrong way is the dishonesty. Just say that you want the items and need someone to get them, I bet ppl would still be willing. Lying thought...

i wouldn't have a problem taking the hotel room- my friend get the liquor ( assuming i din't pay for it) & i get the room. I would suggest tho that a better annalogy is if the room was under their FF number ;)

the point is, i don't want to take the funko & have to resell them- i don't know what to charge- i'd have to deal with the ebay stuff etc all- I have a LOT of items i need to ebay and i don't want to add to that pile!! so the reality is my friend who i've know for many years is doing me a favor. i get to spend the night with free food, lots of good friends and both drink tickets ( i did bargin for those LOL)

I don’t have a dog in this but playing devils advocate, when you have an account on the forum for a few years and that’s literally your only post, you have to understand where people can get skeptical. Especially after we all failed to get into Saw Con.

when did people start getting off the wait-list last year?
Title: Re: SDCC Funko Fundays 2019

My son got off the waitlist on the 28th in 2017 which was 24 days till the event. So I’m feeling like people should’ve been hearing by this point.

I get the sense far fewer will be getting in off the waitlist this year.  That could just be a perception thing, though.

My wife got a ticket from the waitlist on July 13th last year, so you never know. Of course, last year I was lucky enough to get tickets at the on-sale, and this year we both got shut out. I'm expecting nothing but hoping for the best. I just try not to think about it so I don't spiral into a deep well of sadness and loss.

In less than 3 weeks, this space will be transformed into “Freaky Tiki Fundays”.

The anticipation and excitement is building!

When you got the email (or was it an Eventbrite alert?) that you made it off the waitlist, how long did you have to purchase?

Fake success. The PW didn’t leak and even if it did it wouldn’t have mattered as the PW splash page went up seconds before it was tweeted.

Yeah but if the password was known to a select few then those seconds is all it takes to get a jump on everyone else.

How I like to put it,  it is more like a black Friday sale as I was one that got caught up in this later to read how it went down.

1)  Everyone is sitting at the doors waiting to rush in.   For this example, I was standing in the front and have been there for the 1:30 minutes like everyone else playing fair.
2)  There is a pile of Funkos about 100 feet past the doors.   This represents Funko...  The Store is Eventbrite.
3)  A couple of seconds before the doors open,  they open a side door and a group of people runs in grabbing the funkos.   They did not waste the 1:30 minutes
4)  Doors open, I start to run in but get tripped by the owner of the store (Eventbrite)

Of course, the folks that got in a few seconds later did not have to deal with the stampede, did not have to waste time, and did not get tripped by the owner as they walked in because they were led in early.

Yes, life is not fair,  I don't know how many of these folks took slots from the people that were playing by the rules but if it was one there is a problem Funko needs to address.   What made this experience even worse was because of the crash I got swept in,  I am sure I am further down the wait list and most likely will not score.   Oh.. Wife go the same trip as I did. ;)

Sad story, but my friends thought she didn't get off the waitlist and was telling us she was with us on not hearing back. I told her about how some people had to dig through their filters and she checked during the con. Turns out she DID get off the waitlist. She just never saw the e-mail.

Always check all your folders, haha.

Funkos might be tanking due to their own mob mentality. The collectible for the masses is now a collectible for a few.

Not sure what your definition of tanking is.  But one freddy pop covers the price of a ticket.  Instead of a ridiculous amount of profit they are just making a lot of profit.

That being said I hope the prices do go down.  Good for me and people who collect versus sell.

I seeing on the bay that its like 100 bucks for the whole unopened pack..or like 30 each.. wasn't tickets 150 this year to get in?

You might be seeing the online box of fun ?

At the event you got three pops in the box of fun.  Most got two freddys.  Those are currently selling from 200-500 each.  And then a proto.  And then the golden freddy at the end.

Actually never mind.  The stuff you get there is garbage.  No need to go if you are a scalper.

 ;) ;)

I didn't mean you sorry for the misunderstanding.  Just a general declaration to the public that hey you can't get rid of fundays stuff haha.

If you search fundays you will see the dark side...............

For the common Funkos and shop exclusives it will be nice to have the new store in Hollywood. Just afraid tickets to the grand Opening will be just as hard to get as Funday tickets.
