AMD vs Nvidia
« on: March 16, 2022, 08:14:47 AM »
After the lengthy chat about You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login new build, it got me wondering about my own PC.

Right now I have a Radeon RX 580 and thinking it might be time to start looking at new graphics cards.

Obviously, they're super difficult to acquire at the moment but I'm curious what ya'll have and why you like one brand over the other.

I have Nvidia and I love it.  Everything I had before I was not impressed with but those were also prebuilt.

Tough question and not an easy one.  For my build, aside from CPU, this was the thing that took the longest.
I leveraged You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login and You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login.  The site is awesome.  It's what led me to the RTX 3090.
As for GPU availability, I was just able to put an RTX 3090 from Gigabyte in my cart not long ago (hour) after I got an alert from @TheSiteSupply on a Best Buy restock.  They can be had if you have the right alerts.  These guys are great.

Fun! this recommends I get a 3070 or a 6900XT

i've been an AMD boy since as long as I can remember. In fact, my old roommate and I used to drive up to ATI's headquarters north of Toronto and get their stuff in person. BUT Nvidia has a lot going for them so it's a tough choice.

At this point in time just get whatever you can get for a decent price.

But if you had the choice NVIDIA has better ray tracing, NVIDIA's DLSS is better than AMD's FSR, and NVENC encoding with NVIDIA is better for streaming than AMD's GPU encoder. If none of those matter to you and you just want a GPU for pure rasterization only AMD is still pretty competitive with NVIDIA. But I would get NVIDIA just for DLSS alone its pretty game changing for performance to render at a lower resolution and being able to output a higher one and still look good especially as the GPU ages and you start to struggle rendering games at native resolution.
