Title: Looks Like Member ID Creation Has Been Reopened
Post by: tarrbear on April 20, 2012, 06:38:17 PM
Somehow I ended up on the Member ID site, and it looks like Member ID creation has been opened up again, just thought I'd share this little find.

Interesting... I wonder why they're bothering? Why not just hold off on it until Fall? Basically open it up once a year for 3-4 weeks and that's it.

Hmm, quite true, I guess they want to give those who missed out on Member ID's the first time (which I still don't get, I'm pretty sure it was open up for more than enough time...)

I'm just really surprised on how silently it opened, I would have thought it would have been announced the moment it was opened...

Thank you SO MUCH for posting that new member ID registrations have reopened.  I had a "DOH!!" moment the first time around because I thought I could use my own member ID like I did for registering for WonderCon with Comic-Con.  They probably didn't announce new member registrations because Comic-Con pros, etc. have been chomping at the bit about when they'll be able to buy badges.

I think others had mentioned email responses from CCI stated that it'd be re-opened as part of pro and press reg.  No reason not to have it open though I guess the people who did register during the initial 8 weeks feel like they should get a 3rd exclusive chance at getting badges.

Just from a logistical point of view... why increase the number of people vying for the remaining resale badges? That can only make things worse.

Totally agree Transmute! A mad stampede for the last badges.

I got a message from the art show co-ordinator to supply a face picture for my volunteer badge, so that he could get my badge ready when member ID was reopened, so it probably is for internal use for now I'm guessin.

So people in the art show have their pictures on their badges?

I don't know if its staff-wide, or just for the art show? They did ask if we would be interested in getting a shirt made for the art show volunteers so we look like a team instead of a bunch of rebels  ;)

Oh, for the volunteers! I thought you meant people who had submitted work to be in the art show!

Well, it looks like Member ID registration has opened up again, so it will be available for next year's convention.

just as a data point; kids who are 12 can have a member id, it will not mess with their ability to get into the con as a child.

How about kids who are 11? ;)

As of right now, anyone with a birth year of 2000 (or before) can sign up.

If you have a 12 yr old, it might be a good idea to set one up because CCI could announce pre-reg plans for 2013 at anytime and may also close Member ID reg at random times for maintenance or anything else they may have planned.

Thanks! My DD was born in November 2000 so I was just able to register her. Theoretically she won't need a junior badge until 2014, but you never know...

that is exactly why i signed my son up for his even tho he's 12.  Then i got paranoid that they wouldn't be able to deal with him having a member id but getting a child badge for 2012...<eyeroll>

I've never had to register a child so I don't know the process but I assume it's as basic as them asking for the child's name and maybe some type of ID? I don't think they'd dig all too deep and look up the child in the system or anything?

All they've  ever done for me is look at the child and pull out a generic child badge, then register the child's name and an emergency phone number in the system (connected to the parent's badge).

Alyssa, if they do look up the child in the system and find a member ID, that member ID will ALSO have the child's birth month/year, which if anything only 'proves' your case that a child badge is deserved for 2012.

it's simple to get a child badge-  *except* if a member id somehow prevented getting child badge but it does not.
