I always thought this event was always for the privileged...Funko Fanatic Forum Members or People with Fiber optics internet.Never bother trying really.
My understanding is you need to be a member for a certain length of time and a large number of post in the their forum. Is that not true?
It is, but a year and 100 posts can pretty much be done in your sleep. It's not that the people are privileged, it's that they want to be there. But like any other forum you really only benefit from being around and participating. That is true of this forum. Anyone can join and read the information but your life is enriched by sticking around and talking to people. The more you get to know people the more they want to help you out and vice versa. As for the first come first serve public sale that is just how anything for con is. You have to be fast or it sells out.
To be fair, the year and 100 posts is just the basic requirement. Last year people with less than ~500 posts didn't get offered a ticket sadly. (me included)
My friend had under 400 and got tickets. But yes I think they then take an average of all posts to determine who will get tickets. This makes sense because they are looking for those who are active on the forum and not someone who created an account to just get tickets every year. 100% not saying that is what you did, but we both know a lot did. I do realize that their method will still exclude some, unfortunately, that can't be prevented. It is a fair way to distribute the tickets though.
how do the general sales process usually go?
So, new guy here trying to get in, what should I do? for this year try the 20 second general sale and join the forum, get 500 posts to get a chance to get direct tickets for next year?
Well your only option this year is general sale. And 2020 as well. If it is like previous years you would need to have registered for an account this year in 2019 before May 1st. Because no matter how many posts you plan to make you will still not have a star by May 2020. So if you go by this year and previous year's criteria you won't be eligible until 2021. And that is just to be eligible for the lottery. Just because you meet criteria to enter does not mean you will get tickets either.
