Just checked MMM for next year, and the dates are all blocked off.

A new Marriott Hotel is opening up in the Gaslamp in October.

Should be interesting to see what it will be like when it opens and if it will be offered in the sale next year.

FWIW that's about a 15 min. walk/.6 miles from Convention Center.
For comparison Hard Rock Hotel = 4 min. walk/.2 miles; Omni = same

I'm currently reordering my hotel priorities based upon folk's reviews/experiences...net-net: Hard Rock goes to the bottom of the list.

I actually did the same, but moreso it's probably off my top list of 6 completely and not just to the bottom. I'll replace it with something of roughly the same distance anyway. The worst part, I feel like when I was reading the recent reviews I thought, "Oh this sounds very familiar," meaning I had probably heard things vaguely in that vein on the forum in the past (meaning before this year etc.) and it still never came off the list until now when I gave it more conscious thought. Considering Devorah mentioned that some of the restrictions had pretty much always been around during SDCC, I feel like I just ignored the negatives in past years when it was on my list. I told my friends to remind me if I forgot to take it off for next year. Honestly, maybe in the past I thought I could deal, but I definitely won't deal with restrictions like that these days.

In my younger days, I would've loved to have stayed at the Hard Rock. But I've become that guy that loves my peace & quiet at night. It's also why I've moved Omni a little further down my list (it used to be my first choice), because depending on the floor and direction your room is facing, you could be sleeping to the THUMP THUMPS over at the Hard Rock and/or Gaslamp. The loudest years were when NerdHQ was at PetCo.

All of this info is so important. The Bayfront has always been my number one choice, but sometimes things happen and you don't get your top choice, so it is good to know how other hotels are during SDCC.  I did stay once during SDCC at the Hard Rock (about 5 years ago) at that time the only issues I had was making sure I had my room key before trying to get in, and not having access to the hot tub, but after hearing all of these reviews it will probably come off my top 6.

It has never been on my list.  Too few rooms and too much hassle.  If I am not going to get my top choice then there is no use wasting my next chance there.  It's not strategic.

It’s why I never put Hilton Gaslamp on my list (or if I do, it’ll be in my second lottery submission). Despite its prime location, there just doesn’t seem to be that many rooms.

I always had it on my list, because of its location, but it was never my first choice.  Now that I hear about these issues, it'll definitely come off my list.

The info about the challenges of the Hard Rock, have me kind of sad about it.  I wanted to maybe be supercool and stay there once.  Perhaps they will make some 'attitude adjustments' and more soon.

What’s wrong with the Hard Rock again? I miss the gruesome detail.

Hmmm I think the main problem is Hard Rock is tailored to celebrities during Comic Con. Everything is about impressing and making sure these celebrities come back during Comic Con and continue hosting all the industry parties there. I don’t think it can be helped. I lived at the Wyndham Bayfront. It was nice and peaceful. The only celebrities were the waiters and server at Claim Jumpers. They were rockstars.

Heads up, Marriott just cancelled a reservation I had for the Moxy for next year's dates. I wonder if they're going through and purging to prepare to offer rooms with the sale next year?
