It's that time of the year... lots of TV new series pickups, and drops, as well as cancellations.

Given the healthy number of pilots with black leads that we've covered over the last 3 to 6 months, expect more posts like this.

The CW has picked up the post-apocalyptic series The 100, which is based on an upcoming novel written by Kass Morgan.

Isaiah Washington co-stars in the thriller from creator Jason Rothenberg, which is set 97 years after a nuclear war has destroyed civilization. A spaceship housing the lone human survivors sends 100 juvenile delinquents back to Earth to investigate the possibility of re-colonizing the planet.

Washington plays a character named Jaha, who's described as the leader of the remaining human race now living in the orbiting spaceship.

He's a member of a cast that includes Henry Ian Cusick, Bob Morley, Eli Goree, Marie Avgeropoulos and Eliza Taylor.

The drama is produced by Warner Bros. Television & Alloy Entertainment.

The pilot was directed by Bahrat Nalluri, with Rothenberg, Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo serving as executive producers.

A good start to the year for Mr Washington, from his starring role in the critically-lauded drama Blue Caprice (which was acquired by Sundance Selects after its premiere at the festival in January), to his signing with new management (announced in March), to the release of Russ Parr's The Undershepherd (which Washington stars and excels in), a book that's selling, and more to come which will be announced soon enough, I'm sure - including today's news.

Is it too early to call it the beginnings of a comeback, 6 years since Grey’s Anatomy?

Talent cannot be denied.
