I'm old enough to remember that if you stayed home just because you had the sniffles, you were considered a slacker.  It is absolutely what people should do.  Even before covid.  But as has already been pointed out, not everyone has that luxury.  Many people would get fired for taking a few days off.  A small business owner gets no sick days.  They don't have a choice.

Go work in oil and gas, that is still the mentality, though I think it's changing to if you are sick you still have to work just from home.

In an ideal world, sure. But people often have to go to work or get fired, or absolutely need to go somewhere for some other reason. Also, not every cold (or is it an allergy/hayfever? who knows?) you get is going to kill other people if they get it, and staying home 100% of the time for 3-5 days until you're reasonably sure (but still basically just guessing) you're no longer contagious is pretty unfeasible for most people.

Masking when you've got minor symptoms seems much more realistic and doable.

Yes, I believe this is what they do in a lot of asian countries specifically Japan and China. Someone who is from those areas and/or culture can correct me if I'm wrong but they were diligent about mask wearing during cold/flu season, in large crowds and if they were sick because the show must go on. I always admired that for years before COVID. They also have as bad as a workaholic mindset as we do in America, if not worse, so there's that.

Since I don't know what you mean I went looking for announcements, but found someone on twitter who asked for good luck with "exhibitor hotel reg this week".  The tweet was on 1/31.  Is this right, they're starting to book the hotel rooms for exhibitors??

They have gone down before....we just have to hope for no more major variants/waves.  I so want it to be summer in San Diego again....but with no Hotel Lottery info yet it seems even SDCC is waiting for a better forecast.

Hotel lottery info is never this early.  In 2019 I don’t think they even gave us a week’s notice of the hotel lottery in April.  But if you mean early bird hotel info, I don’t remember when that usually goes out.

Generally, CCI gives out the hotel lottery information 4-9 days before the lottery, and the lottery itself happens anywhere between late February and early May. So it's not at all odd not to have heard anything about the main hotel sale yet.

Early bird hotels have been announced anywhere between NOVEMBER OF THE PREVIOUS YEAR (2018 only; I have no idea what got into them just that one time), to late March. The recent (pre-pandemic) trend did seem to indicate January - the announcement on the Toucan Blog was 1/9/19 for 2019 and 1/21/20 for 2020. But in general I wouldn't be worried that no hotel information has been announce by the first week of February even in non-pandemic times.

The way I understood it was they sent an email to exhibitors confirming their spot and that hotel info would be coming later.

However, I also think CCI has shown itself to be *more cautious* as an organization than most (not just about the coronavirus, but in general), so I'm somewhat unsurprised that they're still holding off on Wondercon/hotel sale/etc announcements. Fingers crossed we get some information soon.

I wonder if they've finished fixing up the backend database and structure. In prep for wondercon tix and sdcc hotel pocolyps

That is an excellent point this could be they just haven't gotten the new system working.  I have worked for plenty of companies that had to keep pushing dates out because they were not ready.

To the conversations above, more along the line of people/artists/etc. confirming that they're attending, so "official" in quotes then, but I was holding off getting plane tix until I started seeing things of this nature.

I can't wait to hang out, especially since we didn't get to see each other at NYCC!
