I'll echo what others have said and say I rarely if ever come here. The slightly out of the way doesn't do it any favors. It's a cool concept in theory, but in practice, I don't know if they make people think it's a worthwhile jaunt over the bridge. If they could convince some of the other outdoor areas that are closer to the convention to set up shop there (say the FX outdoor areas like in years past or the Dragonball Z tour), they could get a lot more foot traffic to head over there.
I've gone twice in past years and had a good time, some photos, nice activations and good food trucks!
Last year they upped the game and had live music during the day and night time movies on the big screen. They want to make it more than a place to hit a food truck or do one of the small offsites there. They want to make it a place to hang out. They had plenty of lawn furniture around to sit on.

Outside the convention, fans can enjoy sweets from the Hello Kitty Cafe Truck on site at Comic-Con Interactive Zone at Petco Park. The cafe truck will sell an exclusive 5-piece macaron set with limited quantities per day during the convention. The macaron set is in addition to the amazing offering of Hello Kitty goodies - including cookies, petit fours, bow-shaped water bottles, and more. Find the truck on Thursday, July 18 to Saturday, July 20th from 10am-7pm and Sunday, July 21st from 10am-5pm.
