Why is it called the trolley if it's essentially a lightrail? Does it run on the same area that the trolley cars used to?

Trolley is just another name for a tram or light rail used in North America and because its powered using a trolley pole.

Passes for the trolley for SDCC are now available. $20 for a five-day pass.

If you don't care about the special edition pass you can use the app. $5 a day is the normal fare price so it's not like it was a deal in the first place.

you can buy them online and on the app - it's a bit tricky as their app is very unintuitive, but it's handy because if there's a spot check for tickets on the trolley, you just can show your phone.

I'd just use the app if you're from out of town and just delete it after you leave. They make you buy a mts card for two bucks to reload as you go. Or you can buy the con pass at a mts booth.

It is a deal. You get a day free. It's $20 and it covers Wed-Thurs. All the special SDCC ones are discounted, but it's less a discount as you drop days.

All the multiday passes are discounted.  Including the regular ones.  In fact, if I remember right, the comic-con passes are more expensive than the regular multiday passes up to 4 days.  There isn't a regular 5 day multiday pass but a 4 day multiday pass + $5 for the 5th day is the same price as the 5 day comic-con pass.

To everyone who hasn't ridden the trolley lately, somethings have changed.

1) You can buy a compass pass for $2 directly from a machine now.  No need to go to the supermarket anymore.
2) The machines only give $5 worth of change.  So paying with a $20 isn't a good idea.
3) It should work, but the machines don't accept any of my credit cards anymore.  They used to.  So I don't know what's going on there.

I have read uber/lyft will be impossible to catch d/t the high volume of ppl catching them. Will lyft and uber still be available during comic con week?

I usually take Lyft from/to the airport and have never had issues getting one, even on Sunday afternoon when basically the entire downtown populace is trying to catch a flight out. As to during actual Comic Con hours, with all the road closures and slow ass traffic, it's best to be picked up / dropped off a few blocks away from the convention center. For instance, around Manchester Grand Hyatt.

I have had no problem using Uber/Lyft during SDCC hours. I just set pick up/drop off to a few blocks away.
