2 cousins from Canada coming down to the Comic Con looking for anyone who has a place for the whole convention including the preview night.
Just your typical fun nerds, we like comics, games, magic and movies.  We are planning to do cosplay on one of the days, so someone who is doing the same would be cool.

Looking for not just a room but people to meet and possibly hit a club or the beach (Lego land even!) with, so not just the con.
would like a place that is short walking distance from the convention center we'll have a car but I suspect parking will be stupid.

Send me an email to [email protected] with rates and what you are offering whether its a couch, bed or floor.

Thanks for reading
Cheers

Title: Re: Room Shares (500 West Hotel)
Post by: BustAGroove on March 03, 2012, 10:43:40 PM
I have a dilemma:  I was able to purchase a Comic-Con pass for myself but unable for a family member :-(  I'm waiting to hear from Comic-Con when they'll release returned badges for resales.  If I'm unable to get a badge for my family member, I'm interested in sharing the following accommodations.

I'll be at Comic-Con from July 11-15, 2012 and have reserved a standard double room (non-smoking) with city view at 500 West Hotel:  http://www.500westhotelsd.com/.

This room is furnished with a flat screen TV and a wardrobe for a maximum of 2 people.  There is no meal option with this room.

There is no capacity for extra beds/cots in the room.  Public parking is possible on site (reservation is not needed) and charges are applicable.
Wi-fi is available in the entire hotel and is free of charge.  Pets are not allowed.

San Diego Convention Center is a short 5-10 minute walk from the hotel's front door. The 500 West is an urban, European-style hotel with 260 contemporary guestrooms, fitness center, and cafe.

You'll be able to cancel up until July 6, 2012 8:00 am at no charge.

Hi everyone !
This year will be my first Comic Con, I'm going with a friend.
We would be interested in sharing a room with 2 other persons, considering the prices of hotels.
We are both 19-year-old-french boys, particularly found of TV shows like Lost, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, The Walking Dead...
Send me a PM if you are interested ;)

EDIT : Sorry, but i have bought the hotel yesterday (just for the two of us)

I'm also a culinary arts student, not that I see myself cooking this weekend. I'd like to talk to the person I'm sharing a room with ahead of time, dont wanna crash with a complete stranger. e-mail me anytime.

Hey, Dijetu
Did you mean Holiday Inn Rancho Bernardo ? If so, that's quite a bit farther then 1/2 mile from the Convention Center. I'm a San Diego resident/native, and I'd estimate, that it's at 15-20 minute drive....just an FYI

I've managed to get a  room, (2 beds, I believe, but bring your sleeping bag and we'll sneak you in past security if there's lots of you}  about a half mile from the Con.  It's a little too soon to be making anyone any promises, but if you're interested in sharing, I'm down with that.  I'm at the Holiday Inn Ranch Bernardo.  I've booked for the 11th to the 15th.  No free breakfast or anything, but it's within walking or a cheap cab fare.  Email me at [email protected] if you're down.  I'm volunteering this year, so I'll be there for the duration.  Cheers!

@Alyssa: May I suggest including this formatting in the first post?  I think it'll really help with organizing posts in this thread (it might even make it easier for people to look for roommates).

Hope it helps! ^_^d

Mr. Donuts
500 West
4 days Thursday through Sunday
Smoke yes/ Drink no
One space left (possibly two depending on security)
The room has a single & double bed, but I only have my guest w/me.
18+ yrs, organized, clean, responsible, and respectful. I don't mind any cosplay gear, costumes, tourist stuff, or what you get at the CC. I'm in my mid-thirties, have lived in SD for over fifteen years, know what a carne asada burrito is, and remember the days when you could walk up to CC, and buy a badge. If you like Star Wars, Robotech, anime, movies, zombies, and Big Sonic Chill...then I'm sure we'll get along. I'm responsible, and believe that respect goes both ways. Also, NO drugs, underage drinking, or anything illegal. I don't, and hope you will do the same. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

So if you have read this far, here is my offer:
I would like two badges for Friday and/or Saturday for my guest and I. I'm aware that badges are non-transferable, however, if you were to purchase these (resales/refunds in May) for me then the space is yours. Now here's the kicker, I am willing to pay the purchase price of the tickets (if you get them), and the room is yours for free. Yes, this may sound too good to be true, but some people have good luck, or are just ahead in line. I will try to purchase them on my own, but if I can't and someone else comes through, well then whomever has a place to stay. If you have any concerns, questions, or what-have-you feel free to ask.

Also, I think it would be appropriate to communicate before hand that way we have an idea of who the other is.

Looking for a place to sleep, shower, and store my items Thursday - Sunday.
Within a mile or so of the Convention is fine, plenty of shuttles, and I don't mind walking.
Easier to make this trip if there is a way to share lodging costs.

I'm a non smoker, responsible late 30's. Star Wars fan & collector, love comic books, movies, and art. Not much of a party person, SDCC will be a little break from paramedic school. I am neat and organized, and trustworthy. (firefighter/paramedic student)

If you have a room booked and want an extra person to share costs with, please get in touch. Sharon

Hotel - 500west
Dates- July 7- 14
Single person occupency
Not looking to share only to "sell" a nonrefundable hotel booking that I had already paid for in full.

Ok so tried to get a badge and didn't.
Now I have a paid for hotel reservation that is non refundable because I was reeeeeaaally optomistic. I am aware there is a chance that I could get a resale but I've had to alter plans since the main sale.
If any one is interested it's at the 500West hotel/hostel from July 7th - 14th. It's a single occupency room. 15 min walk to the convention centre.  I would be willing to work out a deal with someone to recover some of my cost and (try to) switch the reservation to another name. I'm asking $400. Which is less than what I paid for it.
If your interested please send me an email and we can discuss it.

    * Include a brief description about yourself: I am a 1st time Con attendee to SD. I love comic art but I am a complete newbie to comics. What I know its from cartoons, movies and articles here and there...in other words, I know nothing!I will be volunteering at the con.
    * Specific behavioral preferences for roommates? I prefer one that is happy!, clean, and a non-drinker, not loud while I'm trying to sleep, does not bring a crowd back to room.
    * Any additional notes/comments you would like to add? I'm easy going, laid back, but not a partier. Love meeting new people and if you can draw AWESOME!

I'm considering a different approach for lodging for Comic-Con San Diego 2013. I'd like stay in a private home, condo or apartment within a few miles from Convention Center. I've researched options which seem to be more reasonably priced than staying in a major chain hotel near the Convention Center. Most of the options I've found don't charge for double, triple occupancy, etc. which is a savings.

For example: Condo in the heart of Gaslamp Quarter that sleeps 4 with a queen bed in master bedroom and queen sofa bed (air mattress) OR sleeps 5 with twin mattress pad. Cost would be $899 divided by 4 = $224 per person from July 17-21, 2013.

I'm focusing on rental options providing a full refund at least 5 days prior to check-in date, in case I can't get Comic-Con badges. At this time, I don't want to post a link in this forum to the sources since I'm discovering that some private homes and apartments are already being gobbled up. You're welcome to send me a PM.

Plan "B" -- Budget, hostel accommodations.

two different people i know have gotten a condo close to the con & neither of them have had *any* problem filling them!
I think if you get a good price on a condo without hidden fee's etc  you'll have no problem filling them.  Good luck!

Hi Everyone,

Just a general reminder to use the following formatting.  (The easiest way is to copy and paste the layout and then enter your information as requested.)

Please edit/modify your post if your room is full, or if you made any changes to the room. This is so that people can see which rooms are available and which aren't.

It'll definitely make it easier to find roommates in the long run, especially as we get closer and closer to Comic-Con.  Good luck!

Thanks,

Was thinking it might help as part of the template to include if there will be a bed available or space on the floor or sleeping bag or if the plan is to get a rollaway or  sharing beds!

Room full!

Name: oneroomdisco
Hotel: Westin Gaslamp
Days Booked: July 11-15
Prices: $250 for bed spots, $225 for floor spot
Smoking/Drinking: No/No
Space left: 3 (2 bed spots, 1 floor spot)

What type of room is it, and how many people can it fit?
This is a two bed room.  Right now, it’s just my sister and myself, so there should be plenty of room for 3 more people (I won't go above 5 people in the room).  If you want the floor spot and want to request a roll away bed, that’s fine, but you will be responsible for the cost.

Roommate Preferences:
I prefer girls but either gender is fine as long as they’re respectful of others.  I don't care much about age, although I prefer 18+.  Roommates should be capable of being clean, organized, and mature.  Also, if you’re a light sleeper, be forewarned that my sister and I will likely be heading out very early each day.

Cosplayers are fine, but please no storing HUGE props in the room.

About Us:
23 year old female graduate student and my 15-year-old cosplayer sister.  I’m pretty calm and friendly, if a little shy at times.  We’re both very neat in hotel rooms and generally keep most of our stuff in our suitcases, unless we’re using it.  This is our first Comic Con, but I’ve run rooms multiple times for Anime Expo.

Payment: 1/2 due in order to reserve spot.  The second half will be due by June 15th.  Paypal is vastly preferred, although I will also take checks.

I don’t do at-con payment.

If you interested, e-mail me at sakurajade @ gmail . com.  You can also PM me.

Either way, please make the subject of your message: Comic Con Room.  In your message, please include the following:
-   Name
-   Age
-   Sex
-   Which type of spot you want
-   Plus any other questions you might have  :)

Thanks!

Include a brief description about yourself:  I'm a 34 year old gentlemen who doesn't smoke and rarely drinks (even at cons). Not a cosplayer. Just a chilled veteran anime and comics fan who wants his mind blown by meeting great guests like Scott Snyder.
Specific behavioral preferences for roommates? Be reasonably clean. The rest will work itself out.

If interested in having me as a roommate, email me at tstidman at verizon dot net. Put SDCC Roommate in tag line.

Name: Morgan (a guy, not a girl, lol)

Hotel: Westin San Diego Emerald Plaza Downtown

Days Booked: 11th - 16th.

Price: If the room is divided by 3 the room will be $383 for the full 5 days. If the room is divided by 4 people the room is $287 for the full 5 days.  Also, if you are not staying the full 5 days we can work something out for a shorter time.

Smoking/Drinking: No/Yes.

Spaces Left: It's currently me and my cousin. We are looking for 2 extras. Read above for the cost of splitting it.

What type of room is it, and how many people can it fit? A double room with double beds. It can fit 3 - 4. Possibly 5 with a rollout.

Do you have an age or gender preference for roommates?: 18 - 25. Female or Male.

Include a brief description about yourself: We're very laid back, respectful, open minded and clean. This will be our first time to the Con or out west so we're looking to have a good time and meet new people and enjoy San Diego. We are into all of the typical con stuff but we like to have fun and party. Nothing crazy, but we will be checking out the local nightlife while we're there.

Specific behavioral preferences for roommates? Clean, non-smoker. Drinking is fine. Organized (don't leave your things laying everywhere). Respectful. We'll be partying so no early birds who want to call it a night at 11PM. Cosplayers and their gear are also fine.

Hotel: Embassy Suites San Diego Bay - Downtown

This hotel is a 10m walk from the convention center:

http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=San+Diego+Convention+Center,+West+Harbor+Drive,+San+Diego,+CA&daddr=601+Pacific+Hwy,+San+Diego,+CA+92101+(Embassy+Suites+San+Diego+Bay+-+Downtown)&hl=en&ll=32.71034,-117.166733&spn=0.007574,0.009645&sll=32.712344,-117.159963&sspn=0.030295,0.038581&geocode=FYsY8wEdfjYE-SH3y2bJGMQWxQ%3BFbAm8wEdZR4E-SGQAO3tVlh_8g&oq=san+diego+con&mra=ls&t=m&z=17

I didn't exactly want the more expensive bay view suite, that's what I got stuck with from the hotel lottery. I'd love to split it up with 3 or 4 people, there is a place to sleep for 3 already.

- This is a big 2-room suite with a balcony, facing the water
- There is a sofa *AND* a sofa bed
- It's a 1 king bed. If there are 3 of us, we could alternate each night. Or, if you're a couple, I'm willing to give up the bed for you guys. There's plenty of floor space too, since it's one of the larger bay view suites, but if you're not on the bed there's still the sofa and the sofa bed.

You can see all amenities here:

http://embassysuites1.hilton.com/en_US/es/hotel/SANDNES-Embassy-Suites-San-Diego-Bay-Downtown-California/room-type-desc-popup.do?roomtypeId=KSVN

Days Booked

I have it from Wednesday 11 - checkout on the Sunday 15th.

Price: $292 + 12.58% tax

I have 1 roommate so far, so:
- Us + You: $109.58/night ($438.31 total)
- Us + You + 1 Other: $82.18/night ($328.73 total)

Smoking/Drinking: No smoking, drinking is OK

Spaces Left: I have 1 roommate so far, so 2 spaces left.

Preferences and Description:

- Parking: If you need parking, the hotel offers valet only, which is $29.00 USD per day.

- Preferences: I have no gender/age preferences as long as you can pay your share and you're a legal adult. No underage children please. Again, if you're a couple, that's great, you can have the king bed.

- Paying: I have to call to confirm what the hotel allows with respect to splitting the bill; if we can each put our card on file for check out, that's fine, but if not, then I may need everyone to pay the hotel in cash on check in. I'll update once I find out.

- About Me: I'm a male twenty-something web designer from Boston. Big on hygiene and personal space. Cosplay stuff is okay as long as you're not insane about it. Neatness and politeness goes a long way. Please no big messes, leaving your stuff everywhere, or parties in the room (unless we come up with something brilliant and everyone is okay with it).

Finally, if you're interested, please send me some kind of evidence that you're not a crazy person or a superintelligent dog, like, I dunno, a LinkedIn or Facebook profile. Happy to share mine.

Hello, I just obtained a professional pass from SDCC yesterday. This will be my 1st SDCC.

I am a designer from North Carolina, 44, married, non-smoker, don't drink, neat and tidy. I want my own bed for sure. I do snore.  :P

I haven't book any airline tickets yPlanning to arrive on the 11th and depart on the 15th.

I am looking for something very close to the convention center. Not interested for hostel.

Want to share space in a room at the Marriott Marquis and Marina, right next to the Convention Center?

Here's the plan. I have a confirmed reservation at the Marriott Marquis for 4 nights, 7/11-7/14.

The cost for all 4 nights is currently $300 per person, and it's due by June 27th, 2012 to guarantee your spot. You'll get details via e-mail on how to pay your share using PayPal, credit/debit card, money order or check (checks due by 6/20/12).

This cost may change as people are added to the room. If the cost is lowered below what you have paid, you will receive an immediate refund of the difference. The $300 amount is based on the cost of the hotel, estimated to be around $1300, and the number of people who have expressed interest, currently 4.

If I can get more people, any reduction will be applied evenly and proportionally - so everyone pays the same amount. I'm hoping to get at least 6 to 8 people - maybe even more.

If you're not comfortable with paying such a large amount up-front, you can reserve your spot with a partial deposit of $50. The remainder is due on arrival and can be paid via cash, paypal or credit/debit card. Sorry, no I-O-Us.

Rules:

- Storage of unsecured cash, jewelry, electronics, irreplaceable items, other valuables and prohibited items (including controlled substances you might legally possess) is not permitted; the room coordinator(s)'s liability for all purposes, over the entire time, is limited to $200.

- 50% cancellation penalty after 6/4/2012, no refunds after 6/11/12 for no-shows. Your space is transferable.

- A full payment by 6/27/12 guarantees access to any room I receive. In the unlikely event that the reservation is "bumped" at check-in (for example, due to flooding at the hotel), your space will be honored for whatever room I stay in on that weekend.

- Also, no smoking in the room, pay for any room charges you create, and drink responsibly.

E-mail techpoc at gmail * com for information on how to reserve your space.

Hotel: Looking for a room for two!!

Days Booked: Thursday thru Sunday
Price: n/a
Smoking/Drinking: Smoking no, drinking maybe (I don't want a party room...)
Spaces Left: 2 people

Preferences and Description:

I'm looking for a room for two people. It's for me and my girlfriend, we are both female and are a couple. We would like our own bed (don't worry, we won't have sexytimes or anything).
Preferably would like to stay with other female(s) ages 18-30 (negotiable), NO kids or tweenies.
We are both 22 yr olds working in the fashion industry, and its our first comic con (though we have gone to plenty anime cons). We are looking to stay with normal, non-crazy/creepy people with preferably a max of 4 people in the room.

I would like to stay with people who are clean (but not psycho about it), practice proper hygiene, don't talk too much and like to turn in at a decent hour (staying up late is fine, just let me sleep please)

I have a gold card for the Marriot.  That means free access the the concierage floor and all the nice amenities that comes with it.( free breakfasts, upgraded room, drinks , snacks, desserts at night, grazing rights all day long) e.t.c.   So if you have a room to yourself, and would consider just one room share, contact me.

I already have one night gratis, but have to leave for another Marriott if I can't convince them to extend the stay.

Made the last minute decision to come down. Now I need roomies!

Name: Aurra
Hotel: private condo

Days Booked: Wed. - Mon.
Price: $350 per person (for all 5 nights)
Smoking/Drinking: Smoking - No, Drinking - fine
Spaces Left: 2 (condo sleeps three)

Preferences and Description:
Condo is within walking distance to the Con - though a bit of a longer walk than some. But only a couple of blocks away from the shuttle if you have lots of stuff to carry. Has the benefit of being a full condo with kitchen, so might be able to save a couple of bucks on food. I'm looking for two people to take the bedroom - queen bed, and your own bathroom. Private and quiet! I'm looking for female roomies, or possibly a couple. Looking for people who are tidy and respectful of others. Seriously, I just want to sleep at night! I'm fine if you're into cosplay - there should be sufficient room to store stuff. Myself - I'm female, early 30's, who is heading down for NerdHQ.

Editing this post as we are now looking to transfer our reservation!

Name: Chaka!
Hotel: Holiday Inn San Diego Bayside. There are two double beds!
Days Booked: July 11-15
Price: We were offered a spot in a different room with more people in it and are looking to transfer our reservation to someone else. We paid a $400 deposit on it and are looking for $240 to recoup at least some of the deposit. So your cost would be $240 to us for the deposit, and then once you get to the con, two nights at $179 to the hotel, for a total of $595 before tax for the weekend. Not a bad price!
Smoking/Drinking: N/A
Spaces Left: Whole room will be yours!

Preferences and Description:

Basically it's just a regular hotel room with two double beds at the Holiday Inn Bayside, which is apparently about 5 miles from the convention center, but is on the shuttle route. We are looking for someone to take over our reservation so we don't lose the entire deposit we paid on it. PM me if you are interested! First come first served as we are looking to get rid of it pretty quickly!

Hotel: Looking for a room/any accommodation for myself. The closer the better.

Days Needed: Weds-Sun
Price Range: $0-$350 for all 4 nights. The cheaper the better.
Smoking/Drinking: Smoking - Just quit, hurray for me, Drinking - Don't Care

Preferences and Description:
I'm 22, I have a 4 day badge + Preview night, I was under the impression for months that I had a spot in someones room only to find out this past week that his room is full and now I am stuck with no place to stay during the con. Anyway, I am not picky, as long as I have a place to sleep, shower and store my swag for the weekend, then I am a happy camper. I am taking the train so I wont have a car, so preferably something close or with transportation/shuttle to the convention center. I'm not annoying, I don't think. I do enjoy meeting new people and hanging out. I enjoy the social scene but I know my limits. Oh and most importantly, I don't stink. Thanks guys!

Alright, I'll give this a shot even though I'm apprehensive to share a room with a stranger off the internets. I have a room roughly four miles from the convention center. Dates are the 12th through the 15th. Near the airport and beach if I'm not mistaken. My nightly rate is $250 and I just may need a person to share the room with. Message me for further details...and to talk me into not staying in this room alone. This is the hotel: http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/sanal-courtyard-san-diego-airport-liberty-station/

I'm in my 30s and am of the male persuasion.

Thanks.

For those looking for a room to stay in, I would recommend reading thru the thread and reaching out to the folks who have posted that they have room available.

Another potential option is to get in contact with others looking for rooms as well as there are some people looking to transfer rooms and you may be able to share the costs and help someone out at the same time.

Days Booked: Wednesday night-Sunday afternoon (4 nights)
Price: $195 per person if 4 people in room, $155 per person if 5 people in room
Spaces Left: 1-2

I have a room reserved about 20 minutes away with two other people in their 20s, one male, one female.  We are looking for 1-2 others, no age or sex preferences, to share the room with to help lower costs.  I WILL have a car to take everybody to and from the convention each day.  I ask that if you use the car, you do help chip in a little to help with car/gas costs and that you pay for parking downtown on ONE of the days (I believe it was $20-$25 to park downtown last year).   We are all laid-back, easy-going people coming from Omaha and very easy to get along with.  It is my 9th con so I am a knowledgable veteran who can help out with questions.  Message me if you are interested!

Hello, I was wondering if there are any rooms is still available. I am coming with 2 friends. We are all male, ages 29, 32 and 32. We are regular Comic Con attendees and have attended for the past six years. We are very easy going, courteous, somewhat nerdy, clean, polite, fun and chill. We will only be staying for 3 nights (Thurs, Fri, and Sat).

We unfortunately waited too long to book our rooms and now we don't know what to do. We have made arrangements to stay with some family members as a last resort, but we prefer to stay close to the convention.

Feel free to email me at [email protected]. You can also search for me on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/mark.a.guirguis) if you want to get a better idea of who I am (and check out my past Comic Con photo albums while you are at it.) You can also call me at 818-307-6342.

Thanks for your time,
Mark

Hello!  One of the people in my room had to back out last minute due to a work conflict so we have 1 space left!  I have a room reserved at a Marriott Courtyard about 20 minutes from the convention center.  There are currently 4 people in the room (3 males, 1 female).  We are looking for 1 more (2 can be discussed but it will be pretty cramped).  The room is reserved from Wednesday night until Sunday. The cost for all 4 nights based on 5 people in the room is ONLY $153!  So it is a good deal.  I will have transportation to/from the convention center.  If you carpool, I ask that you do contribute a small amount for gas as well as help to split parking fees downtown.  If this will work for you, email me asap and we will get you in!

I had something fall through so I still have space in my room.  Below is the info and feel free to email me if you are interested at [email protected] or on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/vivalafranzig

Hotel: Best Western Seven Seas in Hotel Circle.  **I have bed and floor space available (roll away beds are also available)**
Days Booked: July 11-15
Price: $350 for one person, $250 per person if 2 people wish to stay
Smoking/Drinking: Smoking is fine and I am ok with drinking (just not in excess)
Spaces Left: I have up to 2 spaces (3 if necessary) left in my room for the week of Comic Con.

Preferences and Description:
*The room is 300 square feet and there is bed and floor space available.
*I have no preference to the age or gender of my roommates.  However, I would like someone to be tidy with their stuff.
*I am a press attendee and may be cosplaying, but my items are not very big.  Also, I am an early riser for Comic Con (usually around 7 am)
*My preference for roommates are ones who are not too wild and are clean.  Smoking is OK since there is plenty of space outside of the room.  Drinking is fine as long is it is nothing excessive.
*The hotel itself is right around the corner from the Fashion Valley trolley station (literally a 2 minute drive) and just down the freeway from Downtown SD.  The hotel is also a stop for the Comic Con Shuttle.

This is not a room share but a notification we have ONE room that we can no longer use that have had the non-refundable deposit paid on them. We'd like to see the rooms go to use and get some if not all of our money back.

Name:Adriane/tufkittn
Hotel: Best Western Island Palms http://www.islandpalms.com/island-palms-guestrooms/index.cfm
Days Booked: check-in Tuesday July 10th check-out Monday July 16th (this can be altered to fewer dates if needed)
Price: $256/night plus tax it comes to approx $288/night
Smoking/Drinking: requested non-smoking room
Spaces Left: all

Preferences and Description:

What type of room is it, and how many people can it fit?
It's a King Suite. The website says it can accommodate up to 6 people. There's a sleeper sofa in the living room and either 1 King or 2 Queens in the bedroom. Unfortunately, the reservation is vague on what will be in the bedroom and we didn't care at the time we booked since each hotel room was only going to be used by 1 person.

Do you have an age or gender preference for roommates? N/A since I won't be using the room
Include a brief description about yourself: N/A since I won't be using the room

Specific behavioral preferences for roommates? N/A since I won't be using the room

Please feel free to email me ([email protected]) or Glenn ([email protected]) with questions or to take the room off our hands. The $512 non-refundable deposit has been paid and would like to get that in exchange for turning the reservation over to you. The person who's name and cc the room is reserved under (Glenn)is still going to SDCC and will be staying at the Island Palms.

Hello, just wondering if anyone on here is in need of a roommate to help fill their comic-con 2012 hotel? I'm a male age 25. I tend to think i'm good company, clean and won't bother or get in your way. Floor or bed is fine for sleeping. I probably won't be at the hotel too much, mostly at night to sleep and shower.
Ideally i would like to stay in the gaslamp or a hotel with shuttle service since i plan to take a train down to SD. Please let me know if u have room. Which hotel, days and the price. Thanks!! :D

Looking for a place to stay!
I've PMed a couple contacts out there, but still 'shopping' around. I plan on being in SD 11July2012-16July2012.
I was unsure of my ability to attend, until, about a week ago when my employer green-lighted my days off.
I am a 25y/o Male, this is my first con EVER.
Drink/smoke? yes, and yes when i drink...
I'm not very rich and do to PPPP(piss poor prior planning) i haven't got much saved up. So, I'm just throwing this out there in case there is a last minute crunch and someone could use an extra roomy and someone to split some of the cost on their room.

Okay, it looks like we have one open slot in our room-- A Marriott Courtyard about 20 minutes away from the convention center from Wednesday night-Sunday morning.  Total cost for all 4 nights is only $153! We will have transportation to/from the con.  Currently there are three males, and one female in the room.  If you are carpooling with us, I also ask that you chip in a little extra money for car/gas and help pay for parking downtown.  Let me know!

Eric
Motel 6 in El Cajon...  (looked on map and it's near Trolley station
Booked for the 11th and 12th (Wednesday and Thursday
Half the room is $50...  If we have more people we can split it...
Drinking is fine, not sure if it's a smoking room...
I prefer one roomie, but I'm going to San Diego to have fun and I think we could fit a many as 3 (including me) inside...  There is only one bed bed but I think we can get a rollaway if needed and I'm personally willing to sleep on the floor if you wanna buy me out or if you are female...  Thanks all!

So now that CCI 2012 is over, I am wondering how all the room shares worked out?  I'm thinking about doing it for 2013 and I'm curious of others' opinions.  Feel free to PM me if you have something negative to say that you don't want public.  ;)

Myself and my wife got a room at the Hilton Gaslamp through the CCI hotel sales for Thursday through till Sunday - but, before that, we stayed at a condo a mile and a bit away from the Convention Centre, arranged by Rachel Bueno and Khahn Thai, staying there Tuesday and Wednesday night. I'm hoping to jump in with any arrangements they may make again next year (if we don't get hotel rooms in the sale) as they couldn't have been more gracious, friendly and enjoyable hosts. Khanh stocked up the condo with plenty of snacks, nibbles, line supplies and water for everyone to jump in on; an amazingly generous touch. If we do get a hotel this year, and if they have any spare places in their plans, if you can, I can't recommend staying with them highly enough.

(Oh, and Jesse was staying there, too. He was okay, I guess. Snored a bit.)

Thanks!  I will probably be in the "host" position, as I have a junior suite at the Hyatt that I won't be able to afford if I can't share the cost with others.  And I snore a bit too so I'm not holding that against anyone  :)

So given that, I'm a little bit nervous to have to rely on others who may decide to back out at the last minute, leaving me holding the tab for the entire thing.  If you shared your room with others, how did you work it out?  Were their names added to the reservation?  How did they pay you?  Anything other relevant info?

PayPal is good. Would recommend exchanging contact info prior - it helps diffuse some of the natural awkwardness that goes w/ meeting new people.

I was really unlucky with the TP hotel sales (didn't get anything downtown - only Mission Valley) and because my (female) best friend and I were flying in from overseas with no plans to drive, we ideally wanted a room in either the Marriott Marquis or Hilton Bayfront. Furthermore, my best friend is not comfortable with sharing a room with strangers at all, so being in charge of securing accommodations I was stressed over trying to buy over a room to ourselves at twice the price, but nobody was willing to give up their room entirely - even at our offer.

In the end, I found a guy and his best friend looking for more people to share a large double room at the Marriott Marquis. Managed to persuade my BFF to give this arrangement a try (so it was 2 persons to 1 pretty spacious queen bed) and as a safety precaution, I booked another room further downtown (Worldmark on A Street) in case she felt she had to sleep by herself.

I had about 1.5 months to get to know my roomies, and we struck up an easy friendship over long emails and whatsapp texts (it's not difficult when there's so much in common - hello, Comic-Con!). I am very prompt with payment so I paid for 50% of the room upfront via PayPal right when we finalised this deal, and the remaining 50% in cash the moment I met up with him upon landing in San Diego.

All in all everything was a blast, I made two new friends, and because my BFF and I ran on very different schedules compared to our roomies we hardly even used the hotel room at the same time, so it was like having the room to ourselves anyways. We partied till late, then queued for panels at 3am, and only slept in the afternoons from 4pm-7pm, while the two guys went to the Exhibit Hall at 9am and had earlier nights out, so by the time they came back to the hotel to sleep at midnight we were long gone.

This is the first time I have room-shared with "strangers" (well they weren't by the time we met in person) and to everyone who said that my best friend and I were crazy/reckless to do something like that (and trust me, it was everyone we knew IRL - and my best friend herself), I say: No, I did not get murdered in my sleep/robbed and while I would definitely prefer not to have to share a room again, it's nothing to do with my roomies and more to do with the fact that I am way too comfortable walking around the room in the nude/undies, and I sleepwalk, so yes. Wouldn't want to blind poor innocents with that. :d

^ You know you just got every guy in here ready to be your roommate for next year right?

It certainly does take some blind trust to stay w/ random strangers. Just be smart about it and make sure you get real info and always let someone know where you'll be at all times...

I've never hosted but it does seem as tho you've got a good price/location, you shouldn't have too much of a problem finding people. Given the circumstances of the Hyatt deal, it will be interesting but if you charge $500/person for a total 4 people in the suite, it seems to me you won't have a problem.
I'd be tempted to start looking for people now, only accept them if they have a badge.

Hahah, that is if they're looking to be blinded. :p

I agree that it does take a leap of faith, but I naturally place a lot of automatic trust in people and strangers and for some reason it has never backfired or betrayed me. To be honest, everyone I knew reacted really badly when I told them my best friend and I were sharing a room with two dudes but it never struck me that I'd be putting myself in actual danger.

To be honest when it comes to room shares I think cleanliness/manners would be a more realistic and pertinent issue. Some common gripes to be aware about:
-Hogging the bathroom and using all the towels/toiletries
-Shoes - on or off? Some people walk around sleeping areas with their dirty shoes on. I never bring any footwear indoors in a living area. Hotel slippers and mutual compromise does the trick though.
-At SDCC you have people who want to wake up and queue for panels at wee hours in the morning, so they should take care not to make too much of a din preparing to leave the room if the other roomies are still sleeping.
-Creating a mess in the room, leaving your stuff on someone else's bed, eating pungent-smelling food in the room.

Excellent pointers, dogberry, and pretty good advice, especially the one about being flexible around others who may be heading off for an early start and line queues - I'd also include, choosing somebody to be the 'alpha' room buddy, especially if there's only one or two keys for the room. This year, I felt especially guilty with our roommates as there was only one key and, if I were returning to the room late, I felt bad waking the holder up. But, if it's the only way in... Either way, I think buddying up with dogberry would be a blast for anyone participating in this thread, sounds like she's got it all covered!
