Title: WonderCon March 31-April 2 2017 Chat
Post by: alyssa on May 01, 2016, 04:55:14 PM
So... I was looking at hotels for WC and i don't seem to be able to book either the Marriott or the Hyatt on convention way.
Is this normal?

Sort of. Sometimes they hold onto the rooms for a bit. Try checking every day. Eventually they will open up. I'm waiting for the Disney hotels to open for 2017.

You can make reservations at the following hotels now (No discount though):

1. Hyatt Place
2. Doubletree
3. Courtyard Anaheim
4. Sheraton Park Hotel

So when do the discounted con rates go up? Is it through travel planners/CCI? And do the Hilton and Marriott adjacent to the con center sell out quick or do I have a chance?

Normally the con rates are announced much closer to the convention itself, around the time badges go on sale.

Wow, that's a lot of WonderCon information... considering they haven't even had SDCC pre-reg announcements yet!

Still, I'm glad to see the WonderCon info going up!

I'm also glad to see some activity regarding the 2017 shows on CCI's site! And I'm even more excited about it because I'm actually planning on attending WonderCon this year  :D

But an SDCC pre-reg announcement would be nice... ;)

So when the hotels DO go on sale, is it a mad dash to get the Marriott or the Hilton? Or can I just log on when its time and a get a room?

LET'S GET READY FOR WONDERCON 2017!
Setting the Stage: WonderCon 2016 Photo Galleries!
We’re getting ready to launch our coverage of WonderCon Anaheim 2017, to be held March 31—April 2 at the Anaheim Convention Center. And to put us all in the proper mood, let’s look back at the fond memory that is WonderCon 2016.

As you may recall, WonderCon moved to Los Angeles for the 2016 show due to construction at the event’s Southern California home, Anaheim. We’ll be moving back for 2017 and next week we’ll start announcing our confirmed special guests (4 at a time) over the coming weeks, so check back often for more info. Our WonderCon Anaheim Front Page and Toucan will be your OFFICIAL source of info for the 2017 show. Bookmark both pages for the latest information!

But first, let’s look back at WonderCon 2016. Below are some “outtakes” from our set of 3 photo galleries that we’ve also launched today. To see each day’s galleries please click on these links:

WonderCon 2016 Day One (Friday, March 25)

WonderCon 2016 Day Two (Saturday, March 26)

WonderCon 2016 Day Three (Sunday, March 27)

(and coming soon, the WonderCon 2016 Masquerade Photo Gallery!)

There’s over 150 other photos in the galleries listed above … go see them all! And visit us next “WonderCon Wednesday” (Oct. 12) for a look at our first 4 guests for WonderCon Anaheim 2017!

For those who fly in to WonderCon - when do you normally book your flight? I just did a quick search, and it looks like my ideal "return" flight with Southwest is already sold out...sigh  :-[

Check alternate airports. You can fly from LAX or SNA. Also Long Beach, but that's a Jet Blue hub and Southwest doesn't fly there.

Got mine too.  The site was a little hinky at first, wouldn't show the badge purchase section and when it finally did it didn't take my payment and I had to go through it again.  Hopefully I didn't get charged twice but I'm stoked that we get WC in Anaheim again!  ;D

i saved my cc info and just got a text from Stripe thanking me for using their service.  granted that's just the cc saving feature and it still could be epic processing the sale- but the entire interface seemed upgraded

LOL, we got an alerts on our credit card for 'repeated charges'. That's because I had to purchase each of my family's 4 badges as a separate transaction, because of the Member ID login requirement.

Not a fan of this new requirement. I find it silly to do this extra step when buying for others, but hey, they must think it is important to have, so whatever. :p

FYI - Southwest just posted a sale for flights between Jan 10 and May 18. I am now planning on flying into LAX instead of driving down from Northern California. Of course, the best deals are for weekday flights and flying into Orange County/Anaheim is not as good a deal. However, it worked out great for me as we are staying beyond the weekend to visit Disneyland and eliminating drive time means we can save $$ on our hotel room :) Thought I'd share in case others had similar plans.

I was in the hospital when the badge sale went up (always fun) and then had a diagnostic surgical procedure the week after and had to work on scheduling another two surgeries. So needless to say, my mind has not been anywhere near the topic of any conventions.

I suddenly remembered that I hadn't bought my badge or looked into hotels at all for WCA and rushed to the site. So I've finally gotten my badge. I need to bother my friends to find out who is going to determine how much space we need.

Hopefully my second surgery doesn't conflict with WCA or I'll probably be slightly devastated.

If all goes well, I'll probably be driving up to Anaheim from SD. I usually pick up a friend on the way if I'm coming from down here.

You can make a reservation at some hotels such as the Hyatt now but at a non-WonderCon rate.

Would prefer to stay at Hilton or Marriott, but just reserved the Travelodge thru Hotels.com.
At $79 per night, I didn't want to miss this deal. Plus, it's taking waaay too long for WonderCon to post Hotels at their convention rate.
It wasn't clear, but I think parking is FREE at Travelodge! If that's the case, I won't need to take the bus to Anaheim- cause I won't be victim to outrageous parking costs!
I just hope it's a decent hotel. I'm tempted to drive up there one weekend to check it out- just to make sure its acceptable. Have any of you stayed at the Travelodge?
I feel good about this decision. And I can cancel w/out charges as late as 3/30/17.
When WonderCon finally does release their convention rates, I can compare and, if necessary, cancel my Travelodge reservation in favor of a better option.

I'm definitely going to stay alert for convention rates on the WonderCon site. But dang! This price is so nice.

On the way home from Universal Studios and just stopped to check the Travelodge hotel I reserved for WonderCon.
Glad to report the hotel seems more than acceptable for a two nite stay.
It's nothing special, but honestly, we won't be spending much awake time in the room, anyway.
It's also only .3 miles from the convention center.
With the proximity and the price, I'm pretty sure we're gonna keep the room.
Feeling a lot better about this resevation!
SCORE!!!

Ack! I still need to go ahead and request the days off from work (though I'm not sure how much longer I'll be staying with this firm), but I'm a bit afraid to because I've been out from December 7-at least Feb. 11 due to severe health issues.

I'll need to grab the request form and maybe fax it over after the newest confirmations that I should be out @.@

So, the WonderCon Hotel rates have finally been posted...
The least-expensive option is double the cost of the room I've reserved at the Travelodge.
...And the desired option (Anaheim Hilton), is TRIPLE what I currently have reserved.
When selecting a WonderCon hotel stay, my main concerns are: safety, cleanliness, proximity to convention center, and a comfortable bed.
I think I'm gonna be ok with the Travelodge...

The rooms are going somewhat fast and only the Hilton (which I wanted) was gone when I last checked, which has been booked since November when I called last month. (Staying there for D23 though!) So for WonderCon, staying at the Sheraton nearby. Been there before and it's enough. Could have done the Marriott but got a better room deal at the other hotel. Btw, not a fan what was offered this year; and likewise for the rates. Seen better and only two that I liked were offered. Glad I didn't wait. Any who, all set here.

While keeping an eye out for the Hilton, while it is not with WonderCon, the rates, you could get on the waitlist by calling the hotel, if you have not already. That said, the hotel wouldn't update you until 3 weeks before the con so there's that little problem.

the hilton isn't sold out for all nights it's just sold out for check in on thursday. check in friday- monday is available for 2 doubles.
yeah the marriott is the pricy hotel -   we ended up moving from the thursday at the marriott to the clariton  for half the cost.

thx for the suggestion to call the hotel for the wait list.  I just got off the phone with onpeak & they're trying for us.... i'm ok with how it is- it's not too far to wheel the luggage ;)

Yes, the Marriott was $50 less two years ago when Wondercon was last in Anaheim.  Even though the Marriott isn't the Wondercon main hotel, Thursday has already been sold out.

Should be fun to see this site's seventh expansion in progress...

From http://www.ocregister.com/articles/space-738180-center-convention.html

David Meek looked up at the scaffolding and marveled at the construction workers balancing on narrow steel beams as they hammered away on the towering new wing of the Anaheim Convention Center. Standing outside on what will be a 1,350-space parking garage, Meek, a manager at the Convention Center, said he enjoys checking out the daily progress of the site, which is slated to open in September. “I’m just one of those guys who loves watching how things get built,” Meek said during a recent tour. “I can’t wait until the steel goes up.” The $190 million expansion will add more than 200,000 square feet of meeting space. It is right on schedule, Meek said, and already booked for several big shows a month after it opens, including by the American Heart Association in November. The Convention Center hosts about 190 conventions year and attracts more than 1 million guests. The 1.6 million-square-foot facility is already the largest convention center on the West Coast. Since it first opened in 1967, the center has had six expansions. This is the seventh. The latest 450,000-square-foot expansion features additional exhibit halls, meeting spaces, a balcony and a lobby area.

From http://accexpansion.com/

How will Anaheim pay for the ACC expansion?

The ability to expand the ACC was made possible by the creation of the Anaheim Tourism Improvement District (ATID). In 2010 hoteliers within the Resort and Platinum Triangle agreed to self-assess 2% of hotel room rent to pay for the Visitor and Convention Bureau’s (VCB) marketing and promotion of the Anaheim destination. Since the city is no longer responsible for paying this cost (approximately $6 million in 2010), the city committed to re-dedicating those funds to the expansion of the ACC. Ultimately, the amount of city funds formerly committed to marketing and promotions will, over time, cover the entire cost of the new expansion.

Additionally, the city will be able to take advantage of historically low interest rates — which are lower today than they are 90% of the time.

Taxpayers will not have to pay any additional funds for the expansion of the ACC and the General Fund will not incur any added annual debt service.

http://www.comic-con.org/toucan/comic-creator-connection-returns-wondercon

WonderCon Anaheim will once again host the Comic Creator Connection, an event that puts writers and artists together to see whether they can find their creative counterparts. Here's how it works: in two 2-hour sessions-on Friday, March 31 and Sunday, April 2-writers and artists can sit down and meet each other in a neutral environment. In 5-minute sessions, you can talk one-on-one with individual prospective collaborators about their ideas and skills. At the end of each 5-minute period, you will get up and move on to the next person. If you're interested in furthering the conversation, you place your contact info (name and email address) on a supplied card for that prospective partner.

Click here to visit the WonderCon Anaheim CCC page for complete info on how to participate. We recommend signing up in advance to reserve your space. While space may be available onsite, preferred seating at WCA’s Comic Creator Connection is given to pre-registered writers and artists.

(Please note: All participants in WonderCon Anaheim Comic Creator Connection must have purchased a single-day badge to the day in which they would like to participate or a 3-day badge to WonderCon Anaheim.)

http://www.comic-con.org/toucan/wondercon-anaheim-2017-updates

We’ve updated our WonderCon Anaheim Games page with some exciting news about the tournaments and game demonstrations you can look forward to at the big event, March 31—April 2 at the Anaheim Convention Center. Twenty companies will participate in game demos, and there’s a full schedule of sanctioned tournaments, including all your faves, like HeroClix, Magic The Gathering, Pokémon, and more! Click here to visit the WCA Games page for complete info … and get your game on at WonderCon 2017!

Our special guests list is now complete, but there are a couple of notes you should be aware of when you’re buying badges. Most of our guests will be appearing all 3 days of WonderCon, but there are a few that have limited schedules, which you might want to keep in mind when purchasing badges. They are:

Kevin Eastman - Appearing Saturday and Sunday only
Jim Lee - Appearing Friday and Saturday only
Gerard Way - Appearing Friday and Saturday only
We will update guest info if it changes. Click here to see our complete WonderCon Anaheim 2017 special guests list. Also, see the last paragraph below to follow us on social media for updates!

Speaking of badges, they’re still available, but going fast! More info on buying badges for WonderCon Anaheim 2017 is available by clicking here, but lock in your WCA visit now so you can make sure you get what you want. Each year the show sells out, and usually the 3-Day and Saturday badges are the first to go. We thoroughly recommend the 3-Day badge … it’s going to be a great show this year as we return to Anaheim!

Likewise, there are still some WonderCon Anaheim 2017 hotel rooms available, but they’re also going fast with at least one hotel already sold out. If you’re coming for all 3 days, or planning a 2-day stay, now is the time to get that hotel room reserved. Click here for info on how to reserve a room!

Don’t forget the WonderCon Anaheim 2017 Masquerade! The deadline for applying as a contestant for the big Saturday night event in the Anaheim Convention Center Arena is about a month away on March 17, so get your application in soon, as the Masquerade tends to fill up quickly with contestants. Complete info is on our WC 2017 Masquerade page … click here to visit it!

And finally, add us to your social media apps! WonderCon is on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Follow or like us on all 3, and bookmark Toucan for all the latest info on WonderCon Anaheim 2017 (and, of course, Comic-Con International, too!).

PS … Stay tuned for next Wednesday (Feb. 22) when we reveal this year’s amazing WonderCon Anaheim 2017 Program Book cover art and T-shirt design!

this really is not a good sign for the sdcc hotel sale...

I'd like to retract my winky face for this one:  ???

I'm wondering if they're rushing WC stuff to get to SDCC stuff...?

Hmm, that's definitely possible. It wouldn't be surprising, since SDCC badge sales appear to be uncharacteristically late this year. Perhaps they're just really overwhelmed...?

I'm pretty sure they're very overwhelmed right now. I'm overwhelmed by the amount of stuff they have yet to do... or even announce! No wonder WC is getting short shrift!

Oh dear, CCI's site says we only have until today at 4pm PST. Somehow, I'm not surprised by this discrepancy

Well I'm glad I cancelled my excess reservations (2 days at doubletree and wed night at hilton) at 2:00 PM today then so hopefully I'm good for any deadline they want to use!   ::)

eta:  wow now there are no days available at the Hilton or doubletree!

I'm staying with a bunch of friends at the Residence Inn. A suite that sleeps 6 was the same price as Hilton there AND you get free full breakfast every morning.

That's correct.  ^__^d

Whatever address is listed on your Member ID account is the one that they'll be sending the badges to (as long as the badges are purchased before February 27th).

WonderCon Anaheim 2017 special guest Michael Cho is the illustrator behind this year’s amazing WCA Program Book cover. And best of all, you can wear it, too! The cover art is just one of three incredible official WCA 2017 T-shirts (more on those in the weeks ahead)!

This year’s cover/T-shirt combo includes the original, Silver Age incarnations of some of TV’s most popular superheroes, including (clockwise from upper left) Rip Hunter, Time Master, Supergirl, Green Arrow, The Flash, Black Canary, and J’onn J’onzz, Manhunter from Mars. Modern day versions of these DC Comics heroes appear on the CW each week, in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Arrow, and The Flash.

Cho is best known for his variant cover work on titles such as Marvel’s Civil War II, and his covers for DC’s graphic novel collections of Golden and Silver Age stories, such as the Flash, Justice League of America, Superman, Batman, and many more. He’s also the writer/illustrator of the graphic novel, Shoplifter, published by Pantheon in 2014. Michael will have a table in WonderCon’s Artists’ Alley this year, so make sure and stop by and get your book signed! Michael’s art will also be featured in an ad for the convention appearing in DC Comics publications during the month of March.

This year’s official WonderCon Anaheim T-shirt will be available for sale at the show only. Cho’s design (shown below) is just one of three official WCA 2017 shirts that will be offered this year. The other two T-shirt designs will feature the WonderCon Anaheim logo and will be revealed soon … check back here on Toucan for more info as we get closer to the show, along with information on some other exciting WCA merchandise we'll be offering at this year's event!

COMIC-CON INTERNATIONAL... is definitely and absolutely on the horizon, the same sort of horizon that, in a comic book or blockbuster film, might bear the vision of a shimmery spaceship or unusual alien moon. Horizons, in short, are important in the stories that fill our favorite television shows and movies and graphic novels, because, so often, the characters we love our gazing out into the distance, searching for what they'll soon face. But mavens of popular culture, and intricate storytelling, and fabulous costuming, and adventuresome cosplay only need gaze into the nearer horizon, and not quite as far as Comic-Con, to see another major happening: WonderCon, in Anaheim. Yep, this convention was formerly in San Francisco, and, indeed, it is in the Comic-Con International family. But calling it prep for the Julytime San Diego jamboree isn't nearly the whole story, given that WonderCon has long been on the colossal, cram-in-lots-of-cool-stuff side of things, as it should be, of course. It's been delivering all sorts of pop culture delights for three decades. The 2017 dates are...

MARCH 31 THROUGH APRIL 2, the list of special guests has filled out (hello to the legendary Sergio Aragonés and Mark Evanier), there shall be the beloved, gussy-up Masquerade, as is tradition, and oodles of vendors, too. If you need fresh comic books, new toys, new tees, new action figures, or to replace an old favorite (a book you loaned out to a pal and never got back), WonderCon has a way of having what fans are seeking. Badges are on sale, artist Michael Cho's retro-tastic t-shirt and cover art is live and the whole shebang is just a few weeks out. Have your room in Anaheim? This is, after all, right around spring break, when Disneyland Resort is humming. Best book what you have to book, then get to work on that Masquerade costume, the one you meant to start sewing in November. You have time, but go, go, go.

WONDERCON 2017 TOUCAN TIP OF THE DAY! #01: Get Ready for WonderCon Anaheim 2017!

It’s the first day of March, which means we are now just 30 days away from the start of WonderCon Anaheim 2017, March 31—April 2 at the Anaheim Convention Center! We’re back in Anaheim, and we’re excited for what’s shaping up to be another great show!

2017 marks the 31st year for WonderCon. Since its small beginnings in 1987 in the Bay Area, WonderCon has grown to become one of the most popular comics and pop culture events in the country. As the sister show to Comic-Con International in San Diego (and hosted by the same team who produces that event), WonderCon Anaheim brings together comics creators, authors, artists, filmmakers, stars, and many other creative people from the popular arts for a fun-filled weekend. This year, for the first time in many years, WonderCon is not positioned on Easter weekend, but we are smack-dab in the middle of spring break for some of you, so we hope you’ll take advantage of your time off and the usually beautiful Southern California weather (but no guarantees on that!), and join us for this amazing weekend. For attendees, WonderCon offers a unique chance to interact with fan-favorite writers and artists and to meet other fans, see some of the best the comics world has to offer, and also get a peek behind-the-scenes at some top TV shows and upcoming movies.

We’ll be running daily tips from now until March 30 that will help you better plan for your visit to WonderCon Anaheim 2017. Check back each day for a new tip and start making your plans NOW. Badges and hotel rooms are still available, but they’re going fast; click on the links below for more information. We hope to see you at WonderCon Anaheim 2017, just 30 short days away!

WONDERCON 2017 TOUCAN TIP OF THE DAY! #03: WCA Exhibit Hall Do’s and Don’ts

With the announcement yesterday of our WonderCon Anaheim 2017 exhibitors and the Exhibit Hall map, we’d like to take this opportunity to remind you of some very important “do’s and don’ts” to follow while you’re visiting the Exhibit Hall at this year’s event.

WonderCon’s 2017 Exhibit Hall is bigger than ever before, with over 900 total exhibitors (including Artists’ Alley and the Small Press Area). This year’s WonderCon encompasses ALL of the Anaheim exhibit space on the ground floor (Halls A through D, with most of A and all of B and C dedicated to exhibits, with D and a portion of A used for registration and lines). With a space that size, you’re going to experience crowd issues. Here are some tips to help you better understand and navigate this massive space. Please keep in mind that SAFETY is our major priority. Following these tips will help us have a safe and fun convention.

No Running

There is absolutely no running anywhere at WonderCon. That includes the programming rooms, the lobbies, outside the Anaheim Convention Center, and in the Exhibit Hall at all times, but especially in the morning when we first open the hall. We understand that you want to get to your favorite booth (or program or anime screening or food truck) right away, but running is a safety hazard for EVERYONE, not just you. People caught running may have their badges taken away from them and may be ejected from the convention. Don’t run … it’s not worth it!

Please Keep to Your Right

A simple way to easily move through the Exhibit Hall is to follow one simple rule: please keep to your right.  While this isn’t imperative in areas where there is no aisle congestion, in crowded areas of the hall having the traffic flowing easily on both sides of the aisle can prevent bottlenecks and potential safety hazards. If you hear a Floor Manager asking you to “Please keep to your right,” we would very much appreciate your cooperation!

Do Not Sit in the Aisles

You may notice some large open areas around the pillars in the Exhibit Hall. These areas have to remain clear by order of the fire marshal. Please don't sit or block these locations, or in any of the aisles in the Exhibit Hall. Only sit in designated lounge areas (check the Exhibit Hall map in the center of the WonderCon Anaheim 2017 Program Book or click here to see it online), near the food concession areas throughout the hall, by the Author Signing Are in Hall A, and by Games at the back of Hall C.

No Doublewide Strollers or Rolling Carts in the Exhibit Hall

We know you want to bring the wee ones with you to WonderCon Anaheim, but due to safety reasons, we cannot allow doublewide strollers in the Exhibit Hall. We will have stroller parking at the Anaheim Convention Center; location information will be available as we get closer to the event. We also don’t allow rolling carts in the Exhibit Hall. Please don’t bring them.

Snap That Photo Fast … and Keep the Aisles Clear so People Can Move

If you’re going to stop and have a Kodak moment, make it fast. There are hundreds of people around you, all of them trying to go somewhere, so stopping to take a photo and clogging up the aisles is a bad idea. Be aware of the people around you, especially behind you, when you stop to snap that photo and do it fast and step out of the way. There are 3 WonderCon Anaheim Photo Areas with backdrop featuring our logo … see the Exhibit Hall map for exact locations.

Pay Attention to the Aisle Signs

They’re above every aisle, hanging from the rafters. So when you spot that item you want to comparison shop, mark down the aisle marker number and whether it’s in the front, middle, or back of the hall. It makes it so much easier to find again. You can also compare the aisle signs to the Exhibit Hall map in your Program Book (and mark it with a pen) or on the official Comic-Con app, which will be updated before the show.

The Fastest Way to Anywhere Is the Lobby

In a hurry to get to the other end of the Exhibit Hall? Don’t go through the crowds inside the Exhibit Hall, walk out into the lobby and stroll on down to the other end’s doors and enter there. And if you get lost, it’s the best place to get your bearings.

No Retail Sales Unless Exhibit Space Has Been Purchased

No retail sales are allowed anywhere in WonderCon Anaheim unless you purchased or were allocated exhibit space. This includes the Exhibit Hall, common areas such as lobbies, program rooms, and outside venues, such as the Anaheim Convention Center grounds, our headquarters hotel, the Hilton Anaheim and any other convention sites. Retail sales are strictly limited to the exhibitors in the WonderCon Anaheim Exhibit Hall.

A Reminder to All Colonies of Kobol: WonderCon Anaheim 2017 Badges Begin Shipping Soon!

The Quorum of the Twelve doesn’t want you to forget about how we are shipping badges this year! If you purchased a WonderCon Anaheim attendee badge prior to February 27, 2017, your badge will be mailed to you in advance! Your badge will be shipped to the address on file in your Comic-Con Member ID account as of February 27, 2017. The deadline to change your address was February 27, 2017. Comic-Con International is unable to accept address changes after this date.

Badges (for those who purchased by February 27) will begin shipping at least 2 - 3 weeks prior to March 31, 2017. Badges will be shipped in batches, so please do not be alarmed if a friend, family member, or Viper Pilot receives their badge before/after you! Badges not delivered for any reason (lost/stolen/destroyed by Cylons) must be picked up onsite at the Attendee Registration Area in Hall D.

As a reminder, we are shipping badges directly to the attendee associated with that badge, instead of the buyer. For example, Katee Sackhoff paid for her badges, your badges, and Edward James Olmos’ badges. Katee’s badge will be shipped to her, your badge will be shipped to you, and Edward’s badge will be shipped to him. However, international attendees will still pick up their badges onsite.

If you purchase your badge after February 27, 2017, or are an international attendee, you will be able to pick up your badge onsite at the Attendee Registration Area in Hall D. You may pick up your badge during the following hours:

Thursday, March 30: 12:00 PM — 7:00 PM
Friday, March 31: 10:30 AM — 7:00 PM
Saturday, April 1: 8:30 AM — 7:00 PM
Sunday, April 2: 8:30 AM — 5:00 PM

As always, children age 12 and under are free with a paying adult! You may register a child onsite for free at the Attendee Registration Area in Hall D. For more information about our child badge policy, click here (http://www.comic-con.org/wca/2017/child-badge-policy (http://www.comic-con.org/wca/2017/child-badge-policy))!

We look forward to seeing you soon! Thank you for your continued support. So say we all!

WONDERCON 2017 TOUCAN TIP OF THE DAY! #06: Your WonderCon Anaheim 2017 RFID Badge!

http://comic-con.org/toucan/06-your-wondercon-anaheim-2017-rfid-badge

To help prevent scalping and counterfeit badges, WonderCon Anaheim 2017 badges will once again be enabled with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags! At various access points in and around the Anaheim Convention Center, you will encounter gates with a large “Tap Here” indicator. All you need to do is tap your badge briefly to the indicator. When you do, you’ll get a green light that indicated that you’ve been validated and are okay to enter. When you leave, you must also tap your badge out so you may re-enter when you return.

It is extremely important you remember to tap your badge when you leave, or you could be denied re-entry and sent to the customer service desk in a different location of the Convention Center. If you are sent to customer service to resolve a badging issue, you will need a photo ID to validate that you are the badge holder of record.

WonderCon Anaheim badges will be mailed in advance to all attendees who purchased a badge prior to February 27, 2017. Badges will be mailed to the address on file in your Comic-Con Member ID account. We are unable to ship badges to an international address. If you are an international attendee or if you purchased your badge after February 27, 2017, here are the badge pick-up hours:

Thursday, March 30: 12:00—7:00 PM
Friday, March 31: 10:30 AM—7:00 PM
Saturday, April 1: 8:30 AM—7:00 PM
Sunday, April 2: 8:30 AM—5:00 PM
Badge pick-up will take place in the Attendee Registration Area in Hall D of the Anaheim Convention Center. If you received your badge in the mail, please come to Hall D to pick up your lanyard, WonderCon Anaheim 2017 Program Book, and bag.

WONDERCON 2017 TOUCAN TIP OF THE DAY! #07: Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive at WCA 2017!

http://comic-con.org/toucan/07-robert-heinlein-blood-drive-wca-2017

The Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive returns to WonderCon Anaheim in 2017 for its 11th straight year, and expands to all 3 days of the event. You can donate blood at the event and give the gift of life by taking just a short amount of time out of your convention schedule. You can even schedule an appointment in advance right now! The Blood Drive, held in conjunction with WonderCon, the Red Cross and the Heinlein Society, will be happening on Friday, March 31 from 12:00 until 6:15 PM, and Saturday and Sunday, April 1 and 2 from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Onsite, you can visit the Blood Drive desk in the lobby in front of the Exhibit Hall for more info on how to donate, or you can click here to visit our Blood Drive page and follow the link there to schedule an appointment in advance. Heinlein is one of the greatest science fiction authors ever, and his ongoing gift to all of us is his “pay it forward” attitude of donating blood. Live his legacy and do a good deed at WonderCon Anaheim!

WONDERCON 2017 TOUCAN TIP OF THE DAY! #09: Spend a Day in WonderCon’s Artists’ Alley!

http://comic-con.org/toucan/09-spend-day-wondercon%E2%80%99s-artists%E2%80%99-alley

This year’s Artists’ Alley will be the largest ever featured at WonderCon! 367 separate exhibitors will fill this massive space in Hall C at the Anaheim Convention Center, and you could fill your entire day going from table to table to see what each and every exhibitor has to offer. From new, independent artists to the artists you know and love, the variety and talent you will discover will astound you. Try a new comic or two, buy a stunning art print as a souvenir, or just immerse yourself and be inspired! With all the great talent at WonderCon Anaheim, you’ll be have plenty to choose from!

For many attendees, the chance to buy some original art has become one of the highlights of the WonderCon Anaheim experience. If you are considering buying some original art this year, be sure to think about how you will safely transport your art back home. While some vendors may offer plastic bags to protect your art from the weather, you may also want to consider bringing poster board, poster tubes, rubber bands, or packing material to make sure your art stays safe. (Some (if not all) of this essential material is available in the WCA Exhibit Hall, too!

Navigating this show within a show can be a bit tricky-and you can almost spend your entire day in there!-so here are some tips.

Make sure you browse through portfolios and binders on the artists’ tables. They can't display everything on their tabletops, and you never know what kind of hidden treasure you might find.

Many artists will do sketches (for a fee), and most will sign published work such as comics and books. A lot of artists offer prints of some of their work, which you can get signed with a purchase.

Be courteous and don’t ask them to sign every issue of that complete 100-issue run that you brought along.

Remember other people want to see their work, too, so be aware of the people around you and whether or not you’re blocking table access for others.

Collect the business cards of artists whose work you like, so you can visit their websites or social media later and purchase something you missed. And check social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, etc.) hashtags to discover artwork and merchandise that's been posted. Find out what their table number is or ask the person who posted the art on social media who they purchased it from. Use the WonderCon Artists’ Alley and Exhibitor Lists on our website and the official Comic-Con App to do some advance research and check out what people may be selling at the show.

Our regular Toucan contributor, artist Steve Lieber (Whiteout, The Fix) has offered his own unique perspective of sitting BEHIND a table in Artists’ Alley and some advice on how to visit this massive part of the Exhibit Hall floor. Click here to read it!

WonderCon’s Artists’ Alley is a literal treasure trove of great art … set time aside to explore all of it! Click here for our Artists’ Alley list of exhibitors and click here for a map of the Exhibit Hall!

WONDERCON 2017 TOUCAN TIP OF THE DAY! #10: Remember: The Fun Continues into the Night on Friday and Saturday!

http://comic-con.org/toucan/10-remember-fun-continues-night-friday-and-saturday

WonderCon Anaheim doesn’t stop at 7:00 PM when the Exhibit Hall closes! On Friday and Saturday night, the fun continues at both the Anaheim Convention Center and our Headquarters Hotel, the Hilton Anaheim, located adjacent to the Center. On both Friday and Saturday nights, panels will continue late in some of our upstairs programming rooms at the Center (our complete programming schedule is coming soon!). And on Saturday night, it’s the famous WonderCon Anaheim Masquerade, back for its 13th big year. This annual costume competition will take place on the giant Arena stage, beginning at 8:30 PM (all you need to get in is your 3-Day or Saturday WCA badge, providing seats are available!). And on both nights, the events at our Headquarters Hotel include nighttime Anime screenings, Games, and our Hospitality Suite, a great place to network and meet new friends.

We also highly encourage WonderCon Anaheim attendees to take the opportunity to meet new friends. After all, how many chances do you get to hang out all weekend with so many people who share your interests? There are plenty of restaurants and bars in the area, so check out the town and make with some new friends!

Don’t leave at 7:00 PM … the fun is just getting started!

WONDERCON 2017 TOUCAN TIP OF THE DAY! #11: Comic Creator Connection at WCA 2017!

http://comic-con.org/toucan/11-comic-creator-connection-wca-2017

Comic Creator Connection returns to WonderCon Anaheim in 2017! This fun program, which teams up writers and artists as prospective collaborators in short, 5-minute, one-on-one discussions, will have two separate events, on Friday and Sunday, in Room 206B. Online registration for participating writers and artists took place before the show, and preference for space is given to those that pre-registered, however space for artists may be available onsite, so you should check in at Room 206B about a half-hour before each event. Friday’s CCC is 7:00—9:00 PM; Sunday’s is 12:00—2:00 PM.

In addition, there will be two special “Comic Pitch Review” events, which help you prepare before the CCC and offer free coaching. They’re scheduled in Room 206B for Friday, March 31 at 5:00 PM and Sunday, April 2 at 10:00 AM. Take advantage of the great tips offered in these 3- to 5-minute individual coaching sessions to help you hone your pitch before going into the Comic Creator Connection! (Coaching sessions are allotted on a first-come, first-served basis, while space is available).

For more information on WonderCon Anaheim’s Comic Creator Connection, including how to sign up in advance, please click here. (Please note that at this point, the CCC is full for writers; however, there is still space for artists.)

WONDERCON 2017 TOUCAN TIP OF THE DAY! #12: Programming Tracks at WCA 2017!

http://comic-con.org/toucan/12-programming-tracks-wca-2017

This week our Toucan Tips will be focusing on programming at WonderCon Anaheim 2017, as we lead up to the big reveal of our complete Program Schedule on Friday, March 17! Stay tuned for some important information about attending programs at the event and maybe even an advance sneak peek at some of the programs you can expect to see at this year’s show … like:
Check Out the Avalon Room at the Anaheim Hilton for Fan Culture Panels

When selecting our lineup of panels for WonderCon Anaheim, one thing we strive for is variety. Whether you’re interested in hearing about comics, films, TV, or games, getting industry insider tips, or learning about your favorite writers and artists, there should be something for everyone at WonderCon Anaheim.

In recent years, we’ve noticed an increasing interest in “fan culture” panels. These are the panels that enable fans to talk with each other about the things they love, share ideas, develop their creative skill-sets, and even pick up new hobbies. As these panels have proven more and more popular, we have started to add more each year and have developed a special Fan Culture track.

At WonderCon Anaheim 2017, the Avalon Room at our headquarters hotel, the Anaheim Hilton (adjacent to the Convention Center) is our designated Fan Culture room. At any point throughout the weekend, you can visit this room to see panels designed to appeal to the fan in everyone, including panels on cosplay make-up tutorials, fan-driven discussions, and creative new ways to incorporate fandom into your daily life. We definitely encourage attendees to check out a Fan Culture panel as it’s a great way to meet people with similar interests and passions.

Comics Arts Conference Returns to WonderCon!

The Comics Arts Conference, the nation’s leading academic conference devoted to comics, is once again a part of WonderCon Anaheim. This year the CAC will present programs all 3 days of the event. The line-up includes:

    Politics and Memory
    Comics and Fandom
Fans, Academics, Creators, and Educators in Conversation
Do Genre Definitions Limit Comics Storytelling?
    Focus on Genevieve Valentine
    Gender and the Superhero Narrative
    Queering Comics
    Aesthetics
The Psychology of Teamwork Dynamics in Comic Books and Cinema
    Continuity

The CAC offers fascinating discussion on comics and related topics from some of the country’s leading comics-oriented academics. Stop in and sample a panel during WonderCon Anaheim 2017!

As you may remember SDCC does not recommend you use a tablet or a smartphone to purchase a badge.  Last year, being that purchasing a WonderCon badge is no different from any ordinary online purchase, just for fun, I decided to use my iPhone to see if I could purchase a WonderCon badge and was able to do so!

WONDERCON 2017 TOUCAN TIP OF THE DAY! #15: Only Line Up When You’re Ready to Sit Down

http://comic-con.org/toucan/15-only-line-when-you%E2%80%99re-ready-sit-down

Just about everyone who visits WonderCon Anaheim comes with their list of top priority events and panels, and so planning and waiting to see these panels can dictate the way you spend your weekend. And if you just have to be at that must-see panel at 3:00 PM, you might think it’s a good plan to get in line as early as possible to be sure you will get in. However at WonderCon Anaheim, please remember that the line is for the ROOM and not for specific panels. If you’re in line you must take a seat as soon as one becomes available. So if you get to the front of the line before your panel starts, please be sure to enter the room because the people in line behind you may be waiting to get into the panel that is currently happening. If you don’t want to enter the room, you will have to leave the line. You will also not be allowed to form a separate line for any room in order to wait for a later panel.

Also keep in mind that you can sit through earlier panels in order to have a seat for the one you really want to attend. Since we do not clear rooms after each panel and our panels run back to back in most rooms, you are welcome to hold your seat through multiple panels.

Going into a panel that you hadn’t planned on seeing isn’t a bad thing … you might even end up discovering something new you’ll want to explore later, whether it’s a comic series, a TV show, or “now for something completely different.” One sure way to have a memorable WonderCon Anaheim is to be open to trying some new things!

So, let’s review:

Not ready to take a seat? Don’t get in line.
Want to wait around for a panel later in the day? Get in line and take a seat in the panel room as soon as one becomes available.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind in Panel Rooms ...

While you are welcome to hold your seat in a panel room after a panel ends and stay as long as you like, you may not “reserve” that seat. If you leave the panel room at any time, you will have to stand in line again if you want to go back in. (Bathroom passes may be available in certain rooms, at which point you can get back into the room by showing the pass.)

Certain seats are reserved. They will be clearly marked, so please avoid sitting in those seats.

In addition, though we do not clear rooms between panels, we will clear rooms at the end of the day, so you cannot keep your seat in a panel room after hours or overnight. (No, you can’t sleep in the panel rooms!)

Badges are available online only and will not be sold onsite at the Anaheim Convention Center.

WONDERCON 2017 TOUCAN TIP OF THE DAY! #19: Costume Props Check Desks at WonderCon Anaheim 2017!

http://comic-con.org/toucan/19-costume-props-check-desks-wondercon-anaheim-2017

If you’re coming to WonderCon Anaheim in costume and that costume includes any kind of prop or weapon, you’re going to have to have it checked and tagged at one of our Costume Props Check Desks at the event. There are two separate locations this year: in Hall D (where you pick up your lanyard, bag and Program Book if you had your badge mailed to you, or your badge if you registered online after Feb. 27), and in Lobby B/C in front of Exhibit Halls B and C. Both locations are on the ground level of the Anaheim Convention Center. Here’s some things to keep in mind when going to WCA 2017 in costume:

No functional props or weapons are allowed at WonderCon Anaheim.

Simulated or costume props and weapons are allowed as a part of your costume, subject to prior approval by security and compliance with the following:

All costume props must be inspected at the Costume Props Check Desk. There are 2 locations this year: Inside Hall D, and in Lobby B/C (locations are subject to change).

All costume props and weapons must conform to state and federal law.

Projectile costume props and weapons must be rendered inoperable.

Functional (real) arrows must have their tips removed and be bundled and zip-tied to a quiver.

Costume swords must be tied to your costume in such a way that they can’t be drawn.

After each person’s costume props have been checked, they will be tagged by security, and you will be given a wristband to wear to designate that your props have been checked.

Security will escort you to the security station for inspection if your costume prop is not tagged.

If you do not want to have your costume props inspected or tagged, or if you are not willing to comply with these policies, please do not bring your costume props to WonderCon Anaheim.

http://comic-con.org/toucan/22-read-our-updated-convention-policies-wca-2017

It takes a lot of work to put together a giant show like WonderCon Anaheim, and to ensure everyone has a great time, we have to have some basic guidelines to help you enjoy the event. We’ve updated our Convention Policies page for 2017; please click here to read it. It includes important information for everyone attending the show, including those in costume who may have costume props (guns, bows and arrows, swords, your basic giant Harley Quinn hammer). Post-Masquerade food/dance/party?

First-timer @ WonderCon here. Is there a food/dance/party after the Masquerade on Saturday night (like there is at CC in San Diego)?

Thanks!

For those familiar with the area around the convention center or the hotels, is there a hair salon nearby that's open really early on Saturday? It's a longshot, I know. Within a Disney hotel maybe?

There is a salon/spa at the Grand Californian, but I don't know how early it's open.

WONDERCON 2017 TOUCAN TIP OF THE DAY! #29: Are You Ready for WonderCon Anaheim 2017? Let’s Review!

http://comic-con.org/toucan/29-are-you-ready-wondercon-anaheim-2017-let%E2%80%99s-review

(bold = theirs)

We’re already onsite at the Anaheim Convention Center, building the WonderCon Anaheim 2017 Exhibit Hall and programming rooms, so now the only question to ask is: Are YOU ready? Here are some helpful tips to get you ready for actually being at the big show!

Remember to Bring Your Badge or Your Info to Pick Up Your Badge!

If you purchased your badge BEFORE Feb. 27, you should have gotten it in the mail. Make sure you bring it with you, and stop in Hall D to get your lanyard, WCA 2017 Program Book, and bag.  If you purchased it after that date, you can pick up your badge in Hall D, too, along with everything else mentioned in the previous sentence! 3-Day and Friday badgeholders can begin to pick up their badges on Thursday, March 30, from 12:00—7:00 PM. Visit our Badge Purchase FAQ page for hours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Wear Your RFID Badge at All Times and Remember to Scan In and Out!

To help prevent scalping and counterfeit badges, WonderCon Anaheim 2017 badges are enabled with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags! At various access points in and around the Anaheim Convention Center, you will encounter gates with a large “SCAN HERE” indicator.

Your WonderCon Anaheim badge must be worn at all times in an easily visible place on your person, so our security people can see it. This badge is what gets you into the building, not to mention the massive Exhibit Hall, panel rooms (while space is available), and even the nighttime events and areas-Anime, Games, our Hospitality Suite, and our new programming room in the Avalon Ballroom-at our Headquarters Hotel, the Hilton Anaheim, right next door to the Convention Center. So keep that badge prominently displayed at all times, and wear it proudly!

Review Toucan Tips and Convention Policies

Review our complete set of Toucan Tips by clicking here or on the link of the same name in our Categories box in the upper right corner of this page. There’s a wealth of info in there (we’ve been doing this for almost a month now!). Also review our Conventions Policy page for information on certain guidelines and rules that will help you have a better time at WonderCon Anaheim 2017!

Plan Ahead!

Going to WonderCon Anaheim with a group of friends? Be sure to designate a place and time to meet in case you get split up. With all the great photos you’ll be taking, your phone battery may run out a lot faster than you anticipated and you’ll want to know how to reunite with your group. There are many spots to regroup, including the lobbies outside of Halls A B, C, and D and the plaza and walkways outside of the Anaheim Convention Center; even the hotel lobbies of the Marriott and the Hilton, right next door to the Center, and they come with handy food and beverage choices. Think ahead and plan a place to meet!

Exhibit Hall

While the Exhibit Hall is larger than it’s ever been this year, making it an extremely busy place. Please be aware of the people around you and try not to stop and clog the aisles by taking photos. Do not sit in the aisles, and remember there’s no doublewide strollers or rolling carts allowed in the Exhibit Hall. Click here for some more "do's and don'ts" for the WonderCon Exhibit Hall.

Essentials

Remember your collector essentials: Want lists, bags and boards, sketchbooks, pens, poster tubes, etc.

Remember your personal essentials: Phone charger, camera, batteries, water bottle, backpack, snacks, comfortable shoes and a jacket or hoodie for the air-conditioning in the Convention Center. No rolling luggage or carts in the Exhibit Hall; no strollers in the programming rooms, including the Arena. The maps in the Quick Guide will show you where stroller parking areas near the programming rooms are located … click here to view or download the Quick Guide.

Portfolio Review

If you’re showing your portfolio, remember to bring printed copies of your work (never give out original art!), business cards, and resumes. Click here for more info on our Portfolio Review schedule!

Prepare Your Own Personal Programming Schedule

Review our complete Programming Schedule to see what you want to see. Remember you probably won't get in to see everything you want to see, so having some alternate plans is always a good thing! Use our My Schedule function to highlight and keep track of the panels and events you want to attend. It’s easy and it’s free, and it syncs with our App. Speaking of which, don't forget our Official Comic-Con App, which includes updated WonderCon info! Click here to get it from the App Store for iOS, or here for Google Play for Android!

The 2017 Quick Guide

Read online or download our 2017 Quick Guide. It contains maps of the Exhibit Hall, Anaheim Convention Center, and our headquarters hotel, the Hilton Anaheim. The Quick Guide also features the complete 3-day Program Schedule grids, plus listings of all the exhibitors at the show. The Quick Guide comes bound into the center of the WCA 2017 Program Book, which all attendees will receive (while supplies last) when they pick up their badges (or pick up their lanyard, book and bag if they already have their badges) in Hall D.

Social Media #WCA

If you’re posting photos or Tweeting about all the great things you’re seeing and doing at WonderCon Anaheim 2017, please share the love and use our official hashtag: #WCA … share your experiences with the whole wide world!

Anaheim Convention Center Wi-Fi

There is FREE Wi-Fi in the Anaheim Convention Center. Look for “Anaheim Free Wi-Fi.” Please note that this is not high-capacity Wi-Fi … it’s best used just for checking email, Tweeting, and the like, not for uploading or downloading large files, such as videos.

Please be Kind and Courteous

Treat people the same way you’d like to be treated. That includes fellow attendees, exhibitors, cosplayers, staff and volunteers. Remember, we’re all here to have a good time!

Remember to Have Fun!

Actually, we sincerely hope you don’t have to remember that one …every comic convention should be fun! Go with the flow and enjoy everything WonderCon Anaheim 2017 has to offer!

Click here for info on how to buy your WonderCon Anaheim 2017 badges! Badges are available online only and will not be sold onsite at the Anaheim Convention Center. 3-Day and Saturday badges are sold out.

Wow, that's fairly horrible. I've never had a hotel charge me for luggage storage, and I left 2 bags at a London hotel while I went to Paris for a weekend once.

We're driving through downtown LA right now and we're on the Grapevine an hour ago. I can confirm that it was super windy up there. We also saw lots of dust clouds and tumbleweeds driving down 5 through the Central Valley.

The 99 was the same thing, but the Grapevine for me wasn't so bad when I went through? Weird. It didn't feel like it was so bad, but the more open spots of the 5, different story. I know back home, really windy still. Eating dinner at Santa Clarita before hitting LA traffic. That should be fun...

Btw, I am glad you made it through the Grapevine ok.

Anyone doing the AoS signing tomorrow? Likewise for WW?

Front page news

(bold = mine)

Quote
There's a fake black dragon draped over Janet Alvarez's shoulder. Barf from "Spaceballs" is roaming around, and so is a child - with a plastic knife, splattered with play blood in hand and dressed as Chucky, that creepy doll that comes alive in horror movies. After a one-year hiatus in Los Angeles, the popular WonderCon is back in Anaheim through Sunday, and that means fans are out in force for one of the largest comic, science-fiction and pop culture conventions on the West Coast.

"It's hard growing up a nerd," said Crystal Schaefer, 22, of Riverside." You get bullied and harassed. But here, I feel free." She had on pointed dog ears and was carrying an empty Milk bone box, dressed as Barfolomew, the half-man, half-dog played by John Candy in the 1980s science-fiction spoof "Spaceballs." "I'm at home," Schaefer said.

A smaller version of San Diego's Comic-Con, organizers are expecting 60,000-plus to converge on the Anaheim Convention Center this weekend. Here, they'll geek out on everything nerd - buying toys and the latest comic books, participating in panels, and learning how to expertly play a card game, Magic: The Gathering. They will see a premiere of "Class," a spinoff of the British sci-fi TV show, “Doctor Who,” and get a preview of what's coming at Warner Bros.

"There's a lot of camaraderie here," said David Glanzer, a spokesman for WonderCon, in existence since 1987. "I've been coming to comic conventions since 1978, and these conventions ... have grown considerably. "It's a place where people with the same common interest and appreciation can come together," he said. The convention moved to Los Angeles last year because of construction at the Anaheim Convention Center. Glanzer said WonderCon will remain in Anaheim for at least the next couple of years.

On the exhibit floor, comic artwork and merchandise hang in various exhibit booths. A Newport Beach retailer, Toddland, has a booth decorated like the hamburger counter of the Fox animated TV show "Bob's Burgers." Indiana artist Terry Huddleston has his pop culture booth festooned with the colorful faces of comic book and video game characters. Fans lined up with a toy in hand to grab a signature from Ashley Eckstein, the voice of Ahsoka Tano on "Star Wars Rebels," an animated TV show and the founder of HerUniverse, a superhero clothing brand for women. The Hollywood Science Fiction Museum decked out its booth like the Enterprise from "Star Trek"; fans can sit in the captain's chair and take pictures with life-like wax models of Mr. Spock and Dr. Leonard McCoy.

Meanwhile, droves of fans walked around dressed in cosplay as their favorite movie or television character. Think three days of Halloween. Wearing a blonde wig with curls and a red jumpsuit, Vincent Robinette, 54, came from Ogden, Utah dressed as Ralph Hinkley from "The Greatest American Superhero." "I'm here to show these youngin's what a real American hero looks like," said Robinette, an electrical engineer in real life. "Ralph Hinkley was a special-education teacher and helped saved the world." Alvarez, the woman with a dragon on her shoulder, wore a robe, a pointed hat and walked with an emerald-colored walking stick. She was a dragon wrangler. At age 70, it's never too old to dress up. "I don't believe in fairies and dragons," said Alvarez, who lives in Santa Ana. "But I'd like to think if I were to ever go there, it's a safe place, far safer than here."

The backbones of WonderCon, and Comic-Con, too, are the artists and the comic books they produce, and those who buy them. Although some only know the characters from TV and the movies. "People don't really get to know these characters well, only from the movies they watch," said Giovanni Borunda, 33, of Los Angeles, who started collecting comics at 9 and has amassed 3,000. "But now, it's more accepted," he said. "I'm no longer the unpopular kid in the comic book store. Girls will actually talk to me."

In the far end of the Convention Center, the lines weren't as long and a small dedicated few gathered. Dustin Nguyen, an artist known for his work on Batman comic books, and Mark Waid, who made his name for his words for The Flash, Superman and Captain America, signed autographs. Nearby is Gerimi Burleigh, a toy designer from Woodland Hills selling his self-published comic book, "Morningstar." Burleigh remembers as a four-year-old sleeping on Spider-Man bed sheets and nodding to sleep while reading a Spider-Man comic. "WonderCon and comic conventions have become really popular," he said, "There's more fandom and movies but it's expanding the world of comics to a wider audience. It gives kids and people a chance to explore art and opens a world of wonders."

My daughter got the email, but none of the rest of us did. I guess it was random.

Low attendance? That has to be some kind of record for shortest Talk Back panel.

I finally got around to grabbing all the footage I took at WCA and pulling some into Premiere. To start tonight I just decided to make a little clip from my footage of Nichelle Nichols signing.
