Post by: Lancez45 on March 19, 2013, 10:34:31 AM
Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige and many surprise guests provide an inside look at the ever-expanding Marvel cinematic universe.

Saturday July 20, 2013 6:00pm - 7:00pm
Hall H

Marvel has confirmed a 2 to 3 hour panel at sdcc on twitter so we can all rest easy

Here's a post I put together featuring the tweets sent out today via @elmayimbe

He's pretty legit and I believe him. Of course we'll have to wait 4 more months but it seems accurate. GoTG will probably depend on when they finish casting news and if they've actually started anything.

Thanks for posting. Very interesting!

Iirc, Marvel did skip hall h in 2011 so there is a basis for the fear. But yes, I do blame everything on the mouse, perhaps irrationally.

I do agree that skipping wc doesn't necessarily mean anything re Sdcc. I can not imagine marvel and cci having a falling out.  Maybe it is as simple an explanation as Easter weekend.

Well, look at WC in general. Is there anything REALLY huge there this year?

I haven't been and can't confirm, but I saw someone saying that Marvel has skipped WonderCon something like 3 of the last 4 years - so I agree, it's really not that big of a deal.

Seems unlikely for Marvel Studios to have a 3 hours panel, He's probably assuming panels for amazing Spider-Man 2, X-Men: Days of Future past and Marvel Studios to run consecutively. If that's the case I think I'll have to camp out to get a seat.

Agent M (Ryan P of Marvel) tweeted saying that Marvel hasn't had a real strong presence there the past few years.

I think it depends on what movies are 100%. I can't imagine just 3 hours of Winter Soldier but if Thor & GoTG are there, that's not a huge stretch. They could do some random little news things too, maybe announce Ant-Man or something.

If they do panels for Captain America, Thor, and Guardians of the Galaxy it doesn't seem beyond the realm of possibility.  I'd be rather surprised if Spider Man and X-Men were included in this as it's hard to imagine Marvel/Disney, Fox, and Sony all coordinating that  closely.  Additionally, @elmayimbe did say it that the start time was current up in the air--it might end up only being two hours.

In my fantasy world they'd also include S.H.I.E.L.D. but I doubt it'll actually happen.

If S.H.I.E.L.D. gets picked up - and I think it might - I imagine it might have its own panel in Ballroom 20. Even with the built in fanbase, I can't see them doing a new TV show in Hall H.

I imagine S.H.I.E.L.D doing Ballroom 20 or maybe Hall H on Sunday since it's not Marvel Studios, it's ABC.

It's still Marvel Studios - just their television division. Marvel and ABC are both owned by Disney, so it's really under all the same umbrella.

Even with that it's hard to imagine the panel being longer than an hour and a half. Captain America will be halfway through filming but GotG will only be a few weeks into shooting. Even if they have an Ant-Man update and announce more phase 3 movies there would be an extreme amount of question and answer to get to 3 hours.

I am a man of character, honor, and honesty, and have zero problems saying "I was wrong" (hell, being married for almost 15 years you learn to say, 'I'm sorry, I was wrong you were right'  :P) and as of right now I'm elated to admit when I'm wrong.

I'll say this:

1) Marvel has never had a three hour panel.  Not last year when they did their 'AVENGERS' victory lap + announced ALL of Marvel's Phase 2 movies AND did the full nine-yards for IRON MAN 3.  Not in 2010 when they did the combined panels for THOR & CAP. AND intro'ed THE AVENGERS.  This is definitely new territory for Marvel films.

2) I can't imagine Latino Review or elmayimbe lumping Fox films with marvel films.  Latino Review is the absolute BOMB when it comes to breaking Marvel exclusives, and there is zero chance that either Fox or Marvel would let the other (rival) studio hog their glory.

3) by July, THOR 2 will be done filming I think, CAP 2 might be close to finishing, and GUARDIANS will have MAYBE just started.  In 2010 when Marvel had THOR & CAP in the pipe, they should quite a bit of stuff for THOR w/most of the cast, then ushered them offstage and brought out the CAP cast to show a fully edited scene after five days filming.  I just throw this out for reference

4) WORLD'S END is being released August 2013.  This is a sci-fi/comedy for Comic-Con hero Edgar Wright, and it would not surprise me to see him have a panel (he did panels for SHAUN OF THE DEAD, HOT FUZZ, and of course SCOTT PILGRIM).  Perhaps he might pop in to the Marvel panel, as ANT MAN would likely be in pre-production by July.

5) I've seen every Marvel SD Comic-Con panel, and without a doubt I can tell you that they really know how to do Comic-Con.  If you've never had the pleasure of attending, you're in for an entertaining treat.

I'm fairly certain Thor is already done filming.  They started filming last fall and pretty much all the cast is doing other things by now (Chris was vacationing in Australia a few weeks ago).  Cap is supposed to start next month, so there should be plenty of footage for that as well.  (Iron Man 3 didn't start until May and we got a fairly meaty trailer complete with effects last year).  Guardians is pretty much the only wild card--I know that June was a rumored start, but that was a while ago.  Even if they don't have much (if anything ready) by Comic Con, I wouldn't be surprised if they brought out the cast anyways.

That's what I'd expect - close out the panel w/ a cast into. Probably won't have the star power Avengers had but would be a big way to leave a lasting impression and build momentum...

What's betting that Marvel wouldn't mind playing the same card they played for The Avengers in 2010? Wheeling out the 'Guardians...' cast in a big flourish? It's the biggest gamble that Marvel can possibly play - they HAVE to go all in and play the biggest hand ever to win over the crowd.

Now, can they actually keep the cast a secret for that length of time? Helps that they're filming out of the way in Shepperton...

You let The Man get you down, The Man wins - I say, Damn The Man.

I don't think they're actually trying to keep casting a secret.  Chris Pratt is confirmed for StarLord and Dave Bautista just got confirmed for Drax the Destroyer (I'm pretty much never going to get over Jason Momoa/his people screwing up those negotiations :'().  It doesn't look like they're going to cast anyone big name, so bringing them out even for a mini-panel could help build their profile/get fans on board.

Out of all of the Marvel movies, I have a feeling GoTG will probably be the easiest to keep "secret" when they start filming. I imagine most will take place in studio unlike Thor or Iron Man.

A little cynism is warranted. Until an employee of Marvel Studios or Disney announces a panel it isn't official. El Mayimbe does not work for Marvel, so anything originating from him can only be viewed as speculation or an unsubstanciated rumor at this point. I remain optimistic at this point because of the amount of things they have to present this year that need exposure, but I'm unwilling to call it a done deal at this point.

Edgar wright showed a brief clip of Ant Man here in the UK on Tuesday night, when he was a guest at Q&A with his friend Adam Buxton. Wright also tweeted a pic last week that showed that he had finished shooting.

Think its very likely he will be there, and if he turns up I expect Mr Pegg and Mr Frost to make an appearance as well

I'd love a panel for Marvel because yes but if it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen. I'll be super disappointed but I won't let it affect me for long. That means I get more freedom to walk inside the convention center, around the area and not miss other panels or happenings to stay in Hall H all day. Plus, in 2011, the Marvel booth had swag for DAYS and it was all around awesome.

If there is one, I totally wouldn't mind us all coordinating in the line as buddies so that we can optimize for good seating.

I lucked out and ended up in the first row last year when 3 of my friends ducked out after the Django Unchained panel. I was really polite/friendly to security for the front and when someone moved, they let me in to take it after another panel. I also managed to get my other friend a seat right behind me when someone left a little while later so we were both in great seating by the time the WB and Iron Man 3 panels rolled around.

If you can't get up front immediately, try sitting on the end and being patient and being polite. Politeness goes a looooong way in a lot of people's books and they'll try harder to help you out.

But coordinating works better too. XD I was so far back in the original line because my friend and I were in the Item 47 screening and our phones were taken away so we didn't know people were lining up for Hall H till we got out and were eating dinner.

That's awesome :).

I'd definitely be interested in coordinating for Marvel Hall H.  I'm already planning on getting in line as early as possible (like the moment they start letting people in for the next day), but having a network always helps (all my SDCC friends are exclusive/autograph hounds and barely do panels, much less 12+ hour Hall H lineups).  Such alliances helped the people directly in front me in the Much A Do line at WonderCon end up two rows ahead of me once we were let inside :'(.

I may be down for a Doctor Who alliance (not sure if my body can handle a Saturday Hall H camp out followed by a Sunday Hall H campout :-\) and I'd definitely be down for S.H.I.E.L.D. alliance irregardless of where it ends up (H or B20).

GOT and TWD are usually Friday and Doctor Who is usually Sunday, if I recall correctly.

I lucked out Saturday because I parked myself for Django Unchained at the beginning and Iron Man 3 at the end, but also ended up with the WB panel which had the Hobbit. Camping out also allowed for me to meet Sir Ian McKellen seeing as he walked through the line that night (and got SWARMED, poor guy XD).

Also got to see the Godzilla trailer which I actually screamed outloud about once I realized what it was LOL. That STILL has yet to leak.

There was so much stuff on Saturday so I don't regret it but I know I can't do Hall H more than once the entire con so if Saturday is Marvel day then Saturday is my day. Pick your battles and your days wisely because even though some of those days don't line up as fast or deep as the others, I guarantee you that you won't want to be a repeating presence in the Hall H line.

I'm all for alliances for Hall H lineups! But why stop at Marvel? What about BBT, Dr. Who, GoT, Walking Dead, etc.?

I'll throw my hat into the ring for Hall H alliance consideration...

My first SDCC and I'm flying solo. Someone should probably be assigned to hold my hand XD

Not to play Debbie Doubter, but all this confirms is that a Marvel short will premier at Comic-Con.  Here's the exact quote:
Quote
“Item 47 was on The Avengers Blu-ray DVD, and I can’t really tell you the next one yet. It’s still top secret, but we will be premiering it at Comic-Con.”
That could mean another Marvel scavenger hunt like last year, that gets you a ticket to the short's premier: ala ITEM 57 last year.  I have oodles of faith in Latino-Review, and if they say there's a panel I'm like, 90% confident Marvel will have a panel.
HOWEVER...
now that information is being fleshed out we now know that Marvel will have a short (one-shot) featuring a character from CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER.  Latino-Review tweeted:

Quote
4 months from tomorrow, Saturday July 20th. @marvel will have a hall h panel presence at #sdcc Tentative start time 3-4pm till 6pm. RT
9:45 AM - 19 Mar 2013
Quote
Confirmed for 7/20/13 Hall H @marvel panel: Captain America: The Winter Soldier #sdcc RT
9:47 AM - 19 Mar 2013

Taking those two sources together, is it possible that elmayimbe got part of the story (Marvel at CCI presenting something to do with CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER), and then made an assumption that it would a) be in Hall H (obviously if Marvel is presenting a panel it will be in Hall H: however last year's ITEM 57 screening was held offsite) and b) it would be an actual panel?  I think it's a possibility.

Like I said, I trust Latino-Review when it comes to Marvel scoops more than anyone else on the web.  But it's all too often that web writers get part of a scoop and then fill in the gaps with their own stipulations (which are sometimes presented as fact).  Again, Latino-Review does not typically do this, but I think it is still a possibility.  I guess until Marvel confirms/flat out says "yes, we will have a panel at Comic-Con 2013" I'll still have a tinge of doubt.

** also, FWIW, actor Derek Luke who played Howling Commando Gabe Jones hinted that he too might be involved in either CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER and/or the one-shot.

More info on the previously announced Winter Soldier panel. Looking like it should be from 3-4PM:

http://darkphoenixinc.blogspot.com/2013/04/captain-america-winter-soldier-to-be.html

While I'm sure I speak for most when I say I hope this is true:

1) NO ONE has officially said Marvel will hold a film panel in 2013: no one from Marvel films, Marvel, Disney.  No actor has said for sure, "yes I'll be at a Marvel films panel this summer.  Yes, Hayley Atwel has said WINTER SOLDIER will have an presence at SDCCI, but she said that in context of what sounds like a Marvel 'one shot' short film. It could be on off-site screening of the short film, it could be footage played at the Marvel Booth. But as of now we've seen no confirmation from anyone connected with Marvel that Marvel will have a film panel.

2) I mentioned this somewhere else, but this 'more information' seems no more than regurgitating a tweet from elmayimbe. The MrDarkPhoenix blog is not a well known blog that I've heard of before, and without them adding new info to this scoop I don't put a lot of faith into its validity.
Elmayimbe is THE master at scooping Marvel, and I mostly have faith that his scoops are legit. BUT, this is hardly "confirmed" in any conceivable way.

At best, this could maybe be marked as "possible," maybe an optimistic "probable:" definitely not "confirmed," and it seems unwise to place it here until it is officially announced by someone other than an Internet writer.

I thought I had read somewhere, too, that Hayley will be at SDCC because she asked about the size of the convention and how many attend. I'll have to find that article. My fangirl heart is happy about that because a.) she's a flawless curvy queen and b.) if she's on breaking filming Close Enough with Tom Hiddleston (I ship Loki/Peggy, sure!!), then maybe he'll be there too. In which case, my husband can further develop his man crush on that perfect, adorable human being.

I'd be amazed if there wasn't a Dark World panel.  Cap is apparently getting one and that isn't out until April.  I think the bigger question is whether or not we'll see anything for Guardians of the Galaxy.
Title: Re: Marvel at sdcc

It'll be one big MCU panel. I expect Cap 2, Thor 2, a little GOTG (maybe Rocket Raccoon info?) and I believe a few announcements about future movies.

And with this: https://plus.google.com/115218132505862044097/posts/eiWh55pYdhX

I think I can allow myself to go from cautiously optimistic (after Latino-Review's report of a Marvel Films panel several months ago), to expectant.  There is zero chance that a film promoted on the SDCCI banners will not have a panel, so I think it's safe to say with no doubt that Marvel Films will indeed have a Hall H panel next month!!!

For those of you who have been saying this with confidence for months while listening to debbie doubters like myself this is officially me saying you were right, I was wrong (relish the moment, as my wife will tell you this doesn't happen often  :P )

Iirc, Marvel did skip hall h in 2011 so there is a basis for the fear. But yes, I do blame everything on the mouse, perhaps irrationally.

Completely rational.  The mouse is to blame.

After owning the room for a couple of years (especially that brilliant 2010 Avengers cast roll out) and then being utterly schooled last year by WB / Legendary, I'm betting on Kevin Fiege pulling out all the stops for this panel.
