I don't think I've completely unpacked from last year

One year, a wonderful FoCC person gave me a Fantastic Beasts wand (from the Hall H panel) at the Sunday dinner. I carefully wrapped it in a t-shirt and put it inside a pair of tall boots my husband was using for cosplay. When I went to pack costumes for SDCC the following year, I found it again...  ::)

I've got various portfolios where I put comics, small prints etc. Usually I'll have gone to another con by now and emptied them out beforehand but not this year.  But yeah, there are always some nice surprises that I've totally forgotten about.

So what do you guys use for condensing your stuff while packing? I'm going through my two suitcases this weekend to get an idea of which is bigger to take/can fit the most items in them if I get either a compression pack of a packing cube, but I don't have the best luck with compression packs?

I use...

another suitcase...I pack a small suitcase, then put it in the larger one, and bring that w/me, so that I have a big suitcase for swag when going home.

Or, same kinda thing, put a collapsible back in your suitcase, then you can use that for coming home.

Suitcase in a suitcase, only way to SDCC.
Plus my 4 year old daughter gets 2 suitcases....and her clothes are tiny.
But then again 2 years ago when we went she got so many damn free Ugly Doll toys that it filled up like half a suitcase alone.

I use both packing cubes and other "bags" to segment things so they fit neatly.  I find it easier to put rectangles on to of rectangles and play a sort of Tetris style game with my suitcase than just letting everything float loosely.  It's also easier when arriving to my destination since I know exactly what is where instead of just swimming through a sea of things.

Also? I roll my clothes when placing them in my packing cubes/bags.  I've found that takes up less space than folding clothing.

If you are bringing an extra pair of shoes, you can also store things inside those shoes.

Buy travel sized toiletries or small bottles to put just enough of your toiletries in to take with you.

Bring an empty bag with you (like a duffel bag) so that when you come back you have more space for all the stuff you accumulate,

Rolling clothes and packing things inside your shoes are both good suggestions. I do the Tetris thing too. After enough Cons, I’ve got a system down to fit everything just so and with space for swag in my go bag that I use daily at the Con for on the way home.

We do the opposite. Bring the smallest roll-a-board that can reasonably fit just the things we need. Our goal is to deter ourselves from acquiring too much. We already have too many wall length shelves filled with toys that kids can only look at. The museum as they call it. And, not really any more room for art on our walls.

Although last year, we just ended up shipping a box via fed-ex, soooo...yeah, didn’t quite work out.

Yeah, for some reason it’s not working when sharing on the forum, yet on messenger, texting or on another forum the link is working fine. I don’t know what is going on... :/

Oddly if you open the link as a private window it works, at least for me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
