For those who have seen some of the new series...

Do you think someone who has never seen any of the prior movies, nor read any of the books,, etc. would be able to follow this?

I want to dig this series: and House of Dragon & Game of Thrones.  I think I'm just not really into fantasy stuff.  For whatever reason I really enjoyed the original Lord of the Rings films & books (though I admittedly only read the books after Peter Jackson was announced as director of the films, having been a HUGE fan of his New Zealand horror films), and even the Hobbit novel, but I guess that's where my fantasy bonafides/fandom ends?  I turned on the first ep. of Rings of Power and it just couldn't keep my interest.  I tried watching GoT as well, and just couldn't quite get into it for whatever reason.

Maybe I'm just a sword and sandals and spells kinda guy?  IDK, but right now between Rings & House I'm feeling FOMO not really being into this stuff!  Can't fathom why I wouldn't dig GoT: I like violence, zombies, etc. and from what I've seen that show should be up my alley.

IDK.  My wife is a HUGE Tolkien fan so I suspect I'll watch this with her (FWIW I wasn't really interested in The Crown until I started watching that with her and then quickly grew to really like that series).  If anything can break the "not into fantasy stuff" doldrums for me it'll likely be the most expensive series ever produced based on Tolkien's work.

i've only seen the first 2 eps
Yes, you'll be just as lost as the rest of us mere mortals. There's a lot of characters and switching from place to place. However they do it well and seem to be keeping it straight.

I'm LOVING this show!!  And I'm really glad it's a weekly show and not streaming, I have something to look forward to each week!

I mentioned this on Discord, but I got to see the first two episodes in Cinemark XD, and this show is MEANT to be viewed on the big screen. This is the most expensive show in history, and it shows, and the only way to truly appreciate it is to view it on as big a screen as possible.

I saw episode 3 last night on my LG 55” 4K QLED, and though it was still impressive, I felt it wasn’t quite the experience of the first two episodes.

As for the show itself, I wouldn’t call myself a Tolkien purist, so I can appreciate it for what it is. The changes & liberties taken don’t really bother me.  I like the characters, especially Elrond and Deesa. Galadriel, though the casting is great, I’m still not totally onboard with her arc thus far. But I’ll give it time.

I do hope meteor man is not who we all think he is, and that it’s a red herring. But it’s looking more & more like it’s exactly who we all think he is.
