the food was great and being 24 hours helps when you get out of panels at weird times

On a side note, the guy who owns Studio Diner (which has been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives), also owns the television studio next door. This studio used to do a lot of filming for the TV show Hunter, and was also the same studio that did Renegade and Silk Stalkings.

It's good eating there, but I would recommend that you stay away from the chili...I ordered it and it came out looking like dog food. Everything else is pretty good, though!

I'm taking some out-of-towners to Tacos El Gordo in Chula Vista even though I live north of downtown because I'm local like that. The adobada tacos are quite possibly the best tacos I have had in San Diego.

Oh Hodad's!  I love that place and gave it a try after seeing them on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives:

It's Hodad's (You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login); they have several locations around town now. The first location is in Ocean Beach, near the pier; there's also one in Downtown San Diego that opened up last year, I believe. It's located on the corner of Broadway and 10th. If you're walking, it's quite a ways from the Convention Center, but it's only about 2 blocks from the City College trolley stop. This place has KILLER burgers, and if you have a chance, definitely a place to visit. :)

True, margaritas and Mexican food are almost a must after a long day at the Con...If I weren't so far out from downtown, I'd invite you and your husband out to my apartment for some margaritas after Con, Alyssa! :)

And slightly off topic, but we should try to plan a get together for those of us attending Con from the Alyssafranks forums...

I make a habit of doing this for lunch on preview day, since the dinner is way way out of my price range. Its a Brazilian churrascaria, and you get your fill of the different types of meats that they serve. I think the dinner menu only adds two or three skewers of meat, so you don't miss much for lunch. Me and my con bud usually get out the door for 40 bucks, including drinks. It keeps me going for the rest of the Con, since my diet will then consist of pop tarts and cracker jacks :P

Sounds like I should head there for lunch on the Wednesday as well, because you never leave a Brazillian restaurant hungry. And that's a good thing. (Especially since there's no way I'm leaving Preview Night early just to go do a silly thing like eating supper.)

So were reservations necessary? And when you say the $40 tab, was that per person? (Hey, knowing the Gaslamp dining district and some of their prices, I almost believe that even for lunch it could be possible.)

No, we just walked on up, have for a few years in a row now. I think lunch is served from 11 to 2, to take care of the downtown cube-dwellers. 40 bucks was for the two of us, he had a beer and I has a Guarana drink. Gotta take a nap before attending preview night after eating this big of a meal, though...

Broken Yolk Cafe usually has a to-go breakfast burrito special during the con. They are a good size. We were able to enjoy while line for ballroom 20. They are about 3 blocks from the con @ 355 6th Ave (between K St & J St) San Diego, CA 92101

The Subway had ready-to-go foot longs last year. Fast & about 2 blocks from the con. 611 K St # A, San Diego, CA 92101

Brian's 24 has HUGE pancakes 24/7. Last year we went for a HEROES fan meet-up that never happened, but the food was decent. less than a block from the Andaz hotel which is on the CCI route. 828 6th Ave (between E St & F St) San Diego, CA 92101

Nearly forgot about You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login great dive of a taco shop, seems to draw a big crowd from the local schools, and a dinner crowd that is heading to the comedy club down the street from it. It is quite tasty! North of the convention center, by the airport with  trolley stop a couple blocks away.

I usually bring my own food and get Subway for lunch. I'm definitely going to check out one of these burger places!

Every year, though, I make it a point to go to Chocolat. It's a small crepe and gelato place, but they serve great savory crepes. They're a little pricey but not too bad. Amazing crepes, fast service, and they've got a really nice patio for people watching.
