After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia's life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it's only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice's name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.I certainly can’t guess the answers to the above questions of mine, but this certainly LOOKS like the original BEETLEJUICE vibe, and I’ve been a big Michael Keaton fan since seeing NIGHT SHIFT and MR. MOM on cable TV in the early 1980’s; I was a Tim Burton fan from the beginning, since seeingPEE WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE in theater when it was first released. I saw BEETLEJUICE in theaters opening weekend, and I must’ve been the rare middle schooler in the late 80’s when it was announced Burton would direct and Keaton would be BATMAN that I was legit really excited to see what they’d do. So I’m cautiously optimistic!

Giving the traffic situation I'm still not sure about driving. Even Uber drivers, who know the area, seem to have trouble getting close to the convention center. It's tough; I live in San Diego so I drive every year, and you DEFINITELY need to plan things out as far as parking, time (ie super early), etc. if you're driving in. All of the 'best' parking sells out well in advance, but there is quite a bit of 'fringe' parking that's a walk. I have a little kid I take with me, so I hope to get decent parking, otherwise I'll take the trolley.
Movies have to stand on their own and not rely on the viewer to be familiar with the book (I read Dune in H.S. but I don't think I finished it). Having the film end by having everybody taking off for a big climactic space battle seems like a cheat or just a set up for a squeal.Yeah I don't recall how the book ended, at least as it pertains to going to all-out galactic war (a star war, if you will ), but I think that was a movie convention. I remember the first novel (which I too read in HS, or at least started in HS and picked up in college - it is hard to get into!) def ended with Paul realizing he was indeed abandoning the Fremen while ascending up the ranks to rule over all, but I don't remember setting up an all-out Fremen war against the Imperial forces. I kind of think the book ended a bit more sinister w/Paul, but I could be wrong (it's been, like, around 30 years). One thing that IS obvious about the Dune novels is the heavy "beware of 'heroes;' don't give everything over to the charismatic, hero-type!" which I suspect many people will miss, equating Dune with a much lighter sci-fi theme such as Star Wars w/the "hero journey" theme.
I was disappointed. Part one was exciting and spectacular. Part two was beautiful but dull. And the ending seemed rushed (if a nearly 3 hr. movie can be rushed). Based on the ending, I guess a third film will be out in a few years,There are, like, a ton of novels to pool from: maybe half a dozen from the original author/creator (and these two latest films = just the original novel). I'm sure Dune: Messiah is coming next at some point down the road, but likely not for a little while, according to the writer/director. It'll be fun when all of the casual fans see Messiah and realize "Paul is the bad guy actually" and realize all of their snarky commentary about the character from Dune films is kind of actual harbinger of where the character is headed (like how he blows off the Fremen to take over as big ruler guy).
