I didn't get a waitlist email, I am assuming since I got a hotel assignment (way out, not on the shuttle route, and only requested downtown!) My daughter did get the email. Can I use her link on Monday, or is it specific to one person?

You should be able to use it.

Got an email today for Hampton Inn DT at 11:59 (PT). It was my sixth downtown choice, did not pick any non-DT, and I got in at 9:02 and 30 seconds.  But I already got the MGH thanks to the exchange. :)  (Last year, I also ended getting the Hampton which was also my sixth choice, but I got in earlier, like 9:01:30-ish, and got the email the first week.)

BTW, I see Four Points up for 369 a night.  Wed-Sun.  What was it last year?

I want to say 220. It wasn't on the official list this year.

First year trying to do waitlist! Does anyone know if the Mission Valley hotels typically sell out quickly? Downtown looks to be pretty impossible this year, but I stayed at the Hilton MV a few years back and loved it (got it off Early Bird). Thanks!

No. From past years, there will always be Mission Valley hotels available, up until SDCC week.

There are more than enough hotels in the San Diego area to accommodate SDCC. Just not all of it is in downtown/Gaslamp.

Has anyone seen a Moxy assignment? It's a new downtown hotel but was on the list. I put it down as one of my top 6 but I haven't seen anybody say they got it or were assigned it.

Finally saw someone mention receiving the Moxy, on Reddit:

"Girlfriend got the Moxy downtown. Not on our list (and she did list 1 none downtown hotel) she got in around 2 or 3 mins after 9. I don’t recall exactly when."

My buddy and I both got in a 9:04. I got Hampton Inn mission valley and he got Crowne Plaza mission valley. Any thoughts on which one we should keep? The loser will probably be up for grabs lol.

I've made a "just in case" reservation at Sheraton Mission Valley through booking dot com. It's on the shuttle route. No prepay and cancellable till 7/14 (this was thru the app). Definitely pricier than the OnPeak rates (looking at $2000ish altogether for 4 nights) but better than nothing!!

Never stayed at either, but reviews across the board seem to be significantly better for Hampton Inn.

I will never stay at Crowne Plaza ever again!  They bumped me.  They knew they were overbooked days in advance of our stay (as evidenced by the date on the letter they handed everyone at the desk).  They sent us to a lower rate hotel without free breakfast and offered their shuttle to schlep us from the other hotel every morning so we could have breakfast at the Crowne, like convenience wasn't a factor in choosing a place with breakfast.  We had to demand compensation for that, which they finally relented on by giving us credit for their gift shop, where we bought out all their snacks.  I know they bumped others.  Those others were talking about it on the shuttle, but at least they got bumped up, not down.

Apparently, overbooking is what they do during SDCC, at least according to the lady at the front desk.  In case you're wondering, Crowne Plaza was booked through OnPeak.

maybe with the shuttle route changing from 24/7 to just till 1am, downtown got even MORE desirable? I mean in past years I wouldnt have stayed at Mission valley if not for the 24/7 shuttle

wow im just striking out everywhere this year. I didnt get any hotels not even a waitlist email so im a bit worried. my roomates also havent gotten any emails or waitlist emails. I dont remember the time i got in but it cant have been any later than 9:10. From the twitter posts some people who got in at 9:01 havent gotten a room and others who got in later have. this is a really weird system.

Just made my two night deposit on the hotel I got. I saved $409 from the original hotel reservation I made last fall as a backup, and this hotel wasn't in the lottery, hence its higher price. I'm so lucky!
