I'm pro-camping for the same reasons others have said. I preferred the 2017 system where you camped, and pressed an ipad for a time slot. it kept the vendors out, and also limited the potential success of line cutters. In 2016, there was in ipad press, but "sorry try again tomorrow" was an option, which was terrible. That said, I still got the Funko stuff I wanted this year since 95% of stuff was shared and honestly the last couple of years the releases have had fewer appealing pieces to me.

How does camping keep the vendors out? If anything, it makes the vendors more able to get things since they have earlier access to the exhibit hall than attendees, and if the booth has a policy of not allowing exhibitors then they can just switch out the badge with an attendee badge. With the lottery, they can specifically exclude vendors if they wish. (It still won't do anything if the vendor also has an attendee badge, but at least then everyone's on equal footing.)

Exactly, vendors are huge problem in my opinion, how does an exclusive just go OOS for the day 2 minutes after the doors are open?

The first 50 people - 100 in any line are vendors, there is no equal footing even with a regular badge, since when doors open there already in the line, versus coming down the escalator and walking fast to the booth only to find it already capped, and that's 95% all vendors. It's been that way since I've been going 16 years. The only thing that helps me is to preorder and pick up or have shipped from the convention, the only thing that also helps us is the lottery.

outside the sails pavilion? I wasn't aware of vendors going out to participate in the physical ipad funko lotteries that didn't happen on the exhibit hall floor. I guess it's possible, i didn't hear about it or see it. i remember the biggest issue with the ipad lotteries were people rushing the back of sails and cutting people who camped out, but I didn't hear that those were vendors.

Yep...and I didn't see how that's a detriment to vendors.

Because vendors have early access to the floor, not to the Sails Pavilion where the lotteries were all held.

2017, they finally had it down and perfected. Sails was locked down but for the very specific and narrow entrance that was filed in orderly. Super smooth and fair. They finally locked down the back and other entrances and narrowed the pathway into sails and had lots of security keeping it all in order.

They still run it this way now, just far less people funneling in as there are very few things that draw in the morning these days.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I didn't realize it was in Sails Pavilion. From what I am getting based on the description, it sounds like this system neither benefits nor deters vendors (at least not any more than the online lottery does) but benefits people who are interested in camping without necessarily giving vendors an extra advantage.

Yeah, it benefitted those of us who have line groups. It was incredibly satisfying to be able to work together and get everyone the things they wanted. Those days are over.

Right, in this scenario a vendor would need to line up in the everything else line with the rest of attendees and take the same chance with the lottery. I liked it because I was willing to camp for the chance at a good time slot and vendors were to longer able to rush the booth before attendees were allowed on the floor. Based on what I can tell SDCC likes the online lotteries.

should i split this thread ? LOL

I can name the other thread something like like, 'Lines & how they work' or 'how lines have evolved'. i'm open to suggestions.

or we can leave it alone since the funko portal is over. the drawback for this would be the  inability to find this conversation later on.
