Just announced!
-
Details?
-
All I know, is he is releasing his new album a week before SDCC.. Not sure how it will tie in, but Ive been to one of his shows, and it was the best concert ever. He really gets into his sets!
-
Will look forward to more information.
-
Details?
He hasn't released any, just this on his website. http://www.weirdal.com/home.htm
You know that this is going to be insane.
-
Weird Al concerts are a BLAST. He does lots of costume changes and has funny videos on big screens to occupy you during the changes that will tie into the next song. Highly entertaining show.
-
Awesome! Looking forward to this.
-
Saw him a couple years ago in Phoenix. If I can work this into my schedule and get tickets, I am definitely going!
-
I'm teaching a comic book course and my students had never heard of him; they're really young. I played Eat It for them and they're hooked. :)
-
I would definitely like to hear him sing. I really liked the song he sang on the Simpsons
-
I remember my dad and I walking around on the floor and we saw him perusing comics. I looked at him and thought, "Nah...It can't be!"
Then I looked at the badge and realized it was Al Yankovic. :) It was definitely a holy crap moment between me and my father, who knew who Wierd Al is.
-
I would like to take this moment to state that I spent both my 14th and 16th birthdays at Weird Al concerts and I have no regrets. While my peers were seeing pop concerts, I was seeing Weird Al. I think I saw him like 7-8 times total between 12-18. Haven't seen him since then though. Almost a decade! Doubt I'll have time though with all the craziness I already have planned.
-
I've never been to any of his concerts but now you all got my interest piqued :D
One more thing to the to-do list.
-
Still no confirmation on when it will be?
-
Still no confirmation on when it will be?
I've been checking his webpage multiple times a day, and it still has the same message.
(https://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi129.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fp206%2Ftransmutejun%2Fal.jpg&hash=ce286fa4b8623810dc572359a41dbd19075660f0) (http://s129.photobucket.com/user/transmutejun/media/al.jpg.html)
Keep in mind that this does not say that he will be giving a concert, only that he will be there. It could be anything. Keep in mind that this summer marks the 25th anniversary of the release of UHF. It could even be related to that.
(If you're curious, the link just goes to CCI's web page.)

His new CD, Mandatory Fun, comes July 15th.

Oh God, that movie... Suddenly all my teenage obsessions are coming back to me and I'm getting nostalgic. I may also have Spatula City stuck in my head now.

We sell spatulas... And that's all!
It probably says a lot about me that I still giggle when I pass a cabinet that says 'supplies'. :D

There was some info on today's Toucan Blog post. He will have a ticketed panel at the Horton Grand Theater on Saturday:
3:30—4:30 The Wonderful World of "Weird Al" Yankovic-The legendary musical satirist, “Weird Al” Yankovic is here for a discussion and Q&A session on his amazing life and career and his new album, Mandatory Fun.

Wow, tickets handed out at location TBA? I've never heard of that before. Did they do this last year? I really want to go to this.
-
Yes, they do ticket distribution upstairs in the Sails Pavilion. If there's really no line, the people usually let you draw until you get a ticket. They aren't supposed to, but I've witnessed it before first hand. ;)
Last year we got tickets to see Bill Paxton, Anne Rice, Mythbusters and Pinky and the Brain.
-
But is there really no line?
Hmmm... Trying to see how much time I'd have to invest to do this. Would I have to get there at 6 am when the Sails opens up and then wait for 3 hours to draw for tickets? Or is getting there at 8:30 am sufficient? Would I be able to get there at 6 am, draw for some autograph ticket lines, then wait until 9 am for the CCI panel drawings?
Thanks for letting me know of your experience, Miss Kitty!
-
I'd also link to know how to get tickets!
-
Some people lined up early, but some of the the ticket drawings, you could literally just walk up with no real line. Serious. It just depends on the thing. Mythbusters had the longest of the lines that I got into and I still got tickets, but those weren't the most popular of the ticket drawings.
We we also sandwiched inbetween the WB signings ticket distribution and that was UGLY!! People lined up for hours to get SoA and when they got there, all that was left was something that they totally didn't want. One guy nearly flipped the table over, he was so mad!
-
So for last year, what time would you have recommended getting in line for the CCI ticket drawings, Miss Kitty?
-
And also, do you win 1 or 2 tickets? Weird Al would not be as fun without my SO.

Each winner will receive entry for two.

Sweet!

Badwolf, sounds like we should team up for this one! I'd love a line buddy!
-
Well, if you are already waiting in line for signings, that would be the best deal. Last year, I think it's safe to say 30 minutes would be fine if you are just going for these tickets. Smaller panels, literally minutes before hand. Remember, they haven't announced all of the ticketed things.
IF I get to pair of tickets, I will have an extra ticket if anyone wants to join. :)
-
Thank you so much for the information, Miss Kitty! It is much appreciated! There are a few of us who would *really* like to go see Weird Al, so I suspect we'll all be there trying to get tickets! Hopefully we will see you there too!
-
I think he's a perfect fit to do this at SDCC!

It's possible. Need to see Saturday Schedule. I'm guessing tickets would be then since the show is Saturday.

Yep, that's my guess as well.
Pyramid, want to join the line-up party? :D

More than likely! :). I'll be able to give a definite answer when I see Saturday's schedule. Doubt there will be anything better but that will be a walk for sure.
-
Well the line for tickets is before the con opens, so the main thing to trump it would be if you're planning on Hall H or Ballroom 20 that day. But we should know tomorrow what the Saturday schedule is.
-
Badwolf, sounds like we should team up for this one! I'd love a line buddy!
Yes sweet! Just tell me where to meet you and when!

It looks like we might have some others. Let's wait until the Saturday schedule is released tomorrow, then arrange something with anyone who is interested.

Okay, so now that the Saturday schedule is released, who's interested in being line buddies for the Weird Al ticket drawing?

Sucks that Marvel is at 5:30 . Ok, I need to get this straight. There will be a drawing for tix in the Sails Pavilion for Al, right? So, TJ are you thinking that there will be a line for us to get tix there? Is that how CCI is going to work this?

Yes, there will be a drawing. Officially the location is TBD, but last year it was the Sails, so chances are it will be this year as well. And yes, there is a line for it (similar to the autograph lines, from what Miss Kitty said earlier, except that this drawing is at 9 am).
If you're going to Marvel (Hall H) then you won't be able to line up to get tickets, but then, you wouldn't be able to see the panel if you're in Hall H either.
-
I'm still down to wait for tickets

Sounds good! So are we! How about you, Pyramid?

I'm narrowing down my options but I really want in Hall H for Marvel on Saturday. What time will you be getting in line for Weird Al, TJ?

Weird Al's versions are better than the originals.
(Was that proper grammar?) :)
-
So much love for the mention of the resume done in Comic Sans on "Tacky"! Now I wish I could make this panel!
-
Tacky and Word Crimes are hilarious!!!
-
Word Crimes. Finally I can listen to that melody I like without the shame.

Just. Plain. Awesome. What a great video!
-
Aluminati.
;D
-
Looks like Al will be having a ticketed autograph session on Saturday as well! If I get panel tickets, I'm going into the Weird Al autograph ticket line next!
-
Weird Al is great! May I join your ticket line party (if there’s still space?) ;D

The more the merrier! It's not so much a 'group' (not exactly overnight camping) but a 'let's chat in line while we wait because we're all so excited' thing. ;D Just look for the hyper people with FoCCI lanyards!

Next video is up (Handy)

That one is good, but the first 3 were better.

Yeah I feel the same way. It was kinda meh.

Best part was the handyman backup dancers. ;)

Totally agree. This song is kind of a dud for me. Loved the first three, so sarcastic and great social commentary.
-
Anyone planning on getting an airbrushed "Tacky" shirt to wear that day? ;)
I have been to a Weird Al concert a few years ago at the MN State Fair. It was awesome. He is a great live performer.

Outside of the concert, I don't know where I would wear it. :( Sucks too b/c I want a Weird All T.

Anyone know where the tickets will be at in Sails Pavillon?
-
Anyone know where the tickets will be at in Sails Pavillon?
Not sure but there will be a sign.
-
I am in line...hope it's the right one! :o
-
Got here early at 6:45 or so and security wasn't letting people in. When I got up to the Autograph line for limited signings, it went down the stairs and around out back.
-
Are tickets still being given for his 3:30 panel?
-
No luck for me. :(
Word is, at this time they only have standby left.
-
Ok, I'll guess I'll do something else. By the time I get there, might not work out. :/ Oh well, I'll try the nerdist panel at 3. Looks like no tic needed for it. A rest from the floor is the reason.
-
Got the winning ticket this morning, so pumped to see him.

We were lined up and toward the end of the first 'blue curtain walls' lineup area across from B20. Shortly after we got there, everyone was sent outside to continue the lineup.
When our group got to the front of the Weird Al drawing, we got one lucky pull for the second last row in the theatre. On another go-around we got one standby. That was it. But we were in the first group. Weird Al was so popular that almost everyone was going for him first.
The theatre was REALLY small. Maybe 250 people max, so about the size of Nerd HQ. I was shocked that they put Al in such a small place. On the good side, it looked to me like all of the ticketed standby people got in. I think they left the back row empty for standby. Why they didn't just ticket that too, I don't know.
Anyone else make it in?
-
I was struggling to find the line for the panel. I ended up about 15th in line for the LIMITED SIGNINGS line, and was sitting against the glass. Must have been 5th for the panel raffle. Wasn't a winner :(. Wished it was a guaranteed ticket, especially since the raffling didn't start till 9:30am.
Lost out getting to the Mattel or Hallmark booth early in the morning for this. Was outside the convention center at 1:00am
-
For those who went, how did it go? Was it super duper?
-
It was terrific! Al was very funny and interacted well with the audience (not really a surprise).
-
I took a few videos during the panel. Sorry they're a bit 'red'. I was at the back of the room and had to zoom in pretty far.
