So is the ticket booth upstairs for all the booths? Or just some?

Mostly at the booths. I know Lego and Gentle Giant hand out the tickets at the booths at a certain time. People line up to get the lotto ticket. Hasbro I'm not sure of for this year.

Sometimes they also have 'pre-sales'. For example, last year Mattel had a great Stay Puft Marshmallow man. You can see it in this blog:

Marel had a presale online a few weeks before the Con, and I was able to buy Staypuft then. I was given a receipt and I had to go by Matel's fulfillment room at the Marriott Marquis to pick it up.

Interestingly, the other exclusive I wanted last year was the Comic Con Gizmo.

This one was being sold by NECA and I was able to just walk up and buy it, no line. I was so thrilled about that I actually thanked the salespeople profusely. ;)

LOL, the Comic Con Gizmo came with a Pro badge. We were joking that the badge alone was worth $175!!!!

Back when the first preview night was introduced it was a bonus for people who purchased a 4-day pass. Just in the last couple years it has been separated into a different kind of exclusive 4 day pass.  Back then the preview night floor was wide open, not a whole lot of people. Since then the preview night has grown rather large and attendance is capped ( I heard 10,000 attendees). The floor does get very crowded since there is no panels opened to help siphon off the crowds (except room 20 when a t.v pilot is shown).
Preview night is the best time to pick up those exclusives before they sell out and it can help clear up your shopping so you can attend the panels or browse.

Preview Night is capped at 20,000 paid attendees. That does not include the volunteers that are invited to the event (5,000 to 6,500) as a reward for volunteering.

They will post the list of exclusives on the official site about one week before the con. :)

There's usually a better list of exclusives available that are listed on 3rd party action figure sites that's more complete and concise. The list that CCI provides usually leaves out around 20 vendors that have exclusives at SDCC.

Be aware that some booths do not sell exclusives on Preview Night...I seem to remember a Star Wars exclusive that wasn't being sold until Thurs. morning from one booth.

Also, not all booths are open on Preview Night, but you'll at least get an idea of where everything is.

What exclusive was this if you remember?

Some vendors will limit sales of exclusives in order to not sell out the first day. They may also limit the qty. purchased per buyer. Some larger booths like Mattel, Lego will give you a raffle ticket and you must check back at certain times to see if you qualify for the right to buy the exclusive from them.

Mattel no longer does raffles for their exclusives. They haven't had raffles for their exclusives since 2007.

speaking of hasbro- they hand out tickets on pv nite, right? so the first stop if a person wants to buy something is at the ticket station upstairs?

On Preview Night you don't need a ticket to purchase their exclusives but there are already hundreds of exhibitors in line once the doors open on Preview Night.

I want to say it was a Clone trooper bust from Gentle Giant, or maybe it was the clone trooper SDCC exclusive. I don't remember exactly, but I remember it had something to with a Star Wars SDCC exclusive...

Unless you know the exact item then it isn't true. Know the entire facts before you chime in.
