As long as the rolling suitcases meet the carry-on size and weight requirements, you are fine. Weight limit is 50 pounds each and size limits are 28" x 22" x 11" at most. found here: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

EDIT: on Pacific Surfliners, the size limits are 28" x 22" x 11" not 28" x 22" x 14"

My cases meet the criteria, it's just the camera and the laptop bags I am worried about.

Oh, oops. My bad. It is my understanding that one personal bag is also allowed in addition to the carry-ons. I am not sure what exactly distinguishes a personal bag. I was planning on calling amtrak myself to see if my backpack would qualify as personal rather than carry-on.

What number train are you on? Surf liner 774 has listed checked baggage (from union station anyways).

Even if you don't find a cab there are plenty of pedicabs.

Do they take luggage?

I'm taking the train, and wanna go with business class this time. When do you guys think I should buy train tickets? I'm worried business class might sell out.

Honestly, I'd buy now. I bought my business class ticket as soon as I could given that a lot of people could potentially be taking the train and seats are limited, especially for business class. I don't think prices fluctuate like airline tickets do. I'm pretty sure, anyways.

I finally got an email from Amrak regarding what was considered personal baggage. All they did was copy and paste the website information that was unclear in the first place. It looks like i'll have to end up taking the later train with baggage checking just to avoid any confrontation the morning of. Shucks.

Aw, sorry. That really sucks. Have you tried calling them? I have had better luck in the past with their attendants on the phone rather than email. If you wish, I could call. I kinda have the same question anyways.

I've never seen the train too packed with people, and you can always find a door to a car that is unmanned so they don't know (or care) how many bags you are bringing onboard. We have a couple commuter trains in the north part of San Diego that get pretty busy, but haven't seen the same type of crowds on AMTRAK.

I like to eat food while I'm on the train but last year they ran out of food. Due to a lot of Comic Con attendees and people from the racetrack riding on the train, there was a shortage. Nothing was left except some candy and instant noodles.

So there's another side benefit to moving the convention to earlier in the month.
