Comic-Con 2020 Volunteer Registration
A big thanks to all of the volunteers for making Comic-Con 2019 a success!
Comic-Con 2020 Interest List registration will open in September 2019. Be sure to keep an eye on our social media for important updates!

Comic-Con Volunteer Program
The Comic-Con 2020 volunteer program will open in the fall. Please check our social media sites regularly for important volunteer registration updates.
To register as a volunteer for Comic-Con, you must be on the Volunteer Priority List or the Volunteer Interest List. The Volunteer Priority List is comprised of returning volunteers who completed at least one volunteer assignment at Comic-Con the year prior.
If you are interested in volunteering for Comic-Con 2020, you will have the opportunity to sign up for the Volunteer Interest List shortly after Comic-Con 2019. If you are already on the Volunteer Priority List, you do not need to sign up for the Volunteer Interest List when it becomes available. The Interest List is limited and does not guarantee admission into the volunteer program. Please check this page regularly for updates on the Comic-Con 2020 volunteer program as they become available.
There will be another opportunity available for you to volunteer at WonderCon Anaheim 2020 (April 10 - 12, 2020)! Information regarding volunteer opportunities at WonderCon Anaheim 2020 will be available on the WonderCon Anaheim Volunteers page, and on our social media sites, in early 2020. Watch for it!
We thank ALL of our volunteers – past, present, and future – for their help and enthusiasm in making Comic-Con and WonderCon Anaheim great experiences for all!

Member ID Closing for Routine Scheduled Maintenance
The Member ID system will go offline beginning at 10:00AM Pacific Daylight Time today for some routine scheduled maintenance. Please exit the system by that time.
Question: if I volunteered in 2019 (which I did), should there be an indication that I'm on the 2020 Volunteer Priority List under the Volunteer tab of my CCI account? I can't remember previous years but I thought it had been indicated under my Member ID registration info in the past.
The tab (and your checkmark for Priority) will update when CCI announces the opening of the 2020 Interest List (for first timers). Thanks Sam. I asked because this year's volunteer gig was a little weird. I was holding a sign directing folks to the blood drive but no 'supe ever came to relieve me after my shift was up. When I finally went back to the room after 30 minutes had passed, they were very nonchalant about it and said that I should have just left after my three hours was up (I felt really bad for leaving my post after 3-1/2 because it was busy!). And, no-one checked me off a list or anything. Contrast that with 2018 when my shift supervisor was present for a good part of my shift, relieved me promptly when I was done and also thanked me + made a point of telling me she was recommending me for next year because I'd done a good job.
Last year the tab updated on Sept 20th.
So I was (maybe still am) a bit worried my shift didn't get recorded and/or get the supervisor's thumbs up for next year. Probably worried about nothing, but that's just how I am ;)
A friend in our group volunteered 4 days last year and DID NOT get the Priority Registration status. When we told him that we had signed up in the October Priority Registration period, that's when he noticed the omission in Member ID and that he got no registration email. After resigning himself for missing registration and thinking he had missed his chance to Volunteer, he finally contacted the Volunteer Department, weeks late,r and got reinstated for 2019, luckily. Thanks for that info, Sam! I will definitely be on the lookout later this month and verify that my Returning Volunteer status is correct. I do still have my Volunteer badge AND my t-shirt as proof. ;)
Yes, it does happen, and once the Interest List begins, that's when to double check Member ID and get your Priority Checkmark! I didn't volunteer last year, after having Priority the last few years, and am looking to re-up myself.

That's not good. Do you still have your C card then? That's what a supe should take from you and sign to verify that you did your shift. Did they at last take it when you went back to volunteer HQ?So I pulled out my Volunteer badge from this year (yeah, I keep them - the ones from WonderCon, too!) and the only thing in the badge holder was the paper volunteer badge itself. Also the Volunteer On Duty sticker still stuck to the badge holder. I had no C-card or t-shirt sticker/card in there. To be extra certain, I also checked my regular badge holder and every pocket in my Con Survival bag. No C card.
It's not unheard of that people don't get their C cards turned in. The fact that you got a t-shirt means that you are probably OK. Since you should only be able to get a t-shirt after you've done at least one shift. That is unless you are doing one of the last shifts, then they give you the t-shirt sticker when you check in.

Thinking back, I'm now *kind-of* remembering that after we were separated into two groups (those that would stay in the Premium room and those that would go hold signs outside) - I sort of remember being told to turn in our cards to the gal sitting by the lockers before we headed out to our stations. She did have a check list with our names on it so maybe she signed the cards right after we left. When I came back to the room after no one relieved me I didn't think about the C-card. I was more concerned about having to leave a busy post and said as much. Then I grabbed my t-shirt and went on with my day...
You should be good then. The fact that you got a t-shirt means that you should be good. Since they only hand out the t-shirt sticker once the computer says you've done a shift. Unless it's as previously noted.Thanks. This was a 9am-noon shift, not later in the day, so it sounds like I’m good. In any case I’ll be double-checking my status once the interest list opens up. Thanks for your input!
It really depends on the supe, some of them take c cards right away. Others wait until the end of the shift. All that matters is they have your c card and turn it in to volunteer HQ. Regardless, someone should have come around and released you. That's only polite.

That’s not totally true. I went to get the t-shirt sticker on Sunday after the con closed. I showed my volunteer badge at the entrance to the Volunteer room at MMM, and they just pasted my sticker on. They didn’t do any check.
So at least in my case, I can’t be 100% certain my shift got logged. But I am mostly certain since I did hand my C card to an official along with a bunch of other volunteers.
New name too. No longer priority volunteer. Now its returning volunteer. . . . Guess that was a thing lol ive always said returning volunteer.
Got my email, logged into my account and verified that I now have a green check mark and the “you are eligible for Returning Volunteer” status under my Volunteer tab. Well that’s one less thing to stress about! :)
System is Offline
The Comic-Con International Member ID system is temporarily offline for some routine scheduled maintenance. Please try us again later. Thank you for your patience.
Remember to check the pre-con box. It doesn't hurt, it can only help.Indeed ;)

This isn't the pre-con signup. This is the volunteer registration. There's no benefit to getting in early. The only thing that matters is you get in before it closes.
Volunteers
Comic-Con 2020 returning volunteer registration is now open! Returning volunteer registration is only for those who completed at least one assignment during Comic-Con 2019 or were pre-approved by the volunteer department.
To avoid confusion regarding the "Priority List" and the "Interest List", we have made some changes for 2020!
Previously, volunteers who completed assignments at the last Comic-Con were put on the "Priority List" for the following year. We will no longer use the term "Priority" or "Priority List". These volunteers will be called returning volunteers and will register for the volunteer program during returning volunteer registration. Returning volunteer refers ONLY to those who completed an assignment during the previous Comic-Con.
The Interest List will remain the same. Anyone who has not volunteered before or is not considered a returning volunteer and would like a chance to register for the Comic-Con 2020 volunteer program can sign up for the Interest List. Signups are taken on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is reached. There is no guarantee that getting on the Interest List will get you into the volunteer program. Returning volunteers do NOT need to sign up for the Interest List.
If you are a returning volunteer, log in to your Comic-Con Member ID account, select the “Volunteering” tab, and click the returning volunteer registration link. Returning volunteer registration closes on Monday, October 7, 2019 at 5:00 PM Pacific Daylight Time (PDT). You must register online prior to this deadline if you want to redeem your guaranteed admission to our Comic-Con 2020 volunteer program.
Volunteer Interest List
Sometime after returning volunteer registration is complete, signups for the Volunteer Interest List will open. The Interest List is for those that are interested in volunteering at Comic-Con 2020 but did not volunteer the previous year. Signups for the Interest List are open on a first-come, first-served basis until it reaches capacity. Check this page frequently for updates about Interest List signups.
Once the Interest List has reached capacity, those on the Interest List will receive an email notification with the date and time that Comic-Con 2020 volunteer registration will be available to them. Registration will remain open for the Interest List as well as any unregistered returning volunteers, on a first-come, first-served basis until the program’s capacity is reached. At that time, the volunteer program will close and there will be no further opportunities to register to volunteer for Comic-Con 2020.
This isn't the pre-con signup. This is the volunteer registration. There's no benefit to getting in early. The only thing that matters is you get in before it closes.

Comic-Con 2020 Volunteer Registration
Comic-Con 2020 returning volunteer registration is now closed.

To sign up for the Interest List, follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or check this page regularly for updates! We will announce here and on social media when the Interest List opens. "
This sounds like they're NOT going to send out emails to solicit people for the Interest List.
Is anyone else getting that impression?
NEW FOR 2020!
We have made changes to the daily volunteer registration program to make the registration process easier for our returning volunteers and fans who are interested in volunteering for the first time.
So correct me if I'm wrong, but there doesn't actually seem to be anything new process-wise. Only terminology changes, correct?Yes, process looks the same.
The Comic-Con 2020 Volunteer Interest List will open for sign-ups on 10/14 at 10 AM PDT! You must have a Comic-Con Member ID and be 16 years or older to sign up. Signing up for the Interest List is on a first-come, first-served basis. For more info, visit https://bit.ly/35nsJFP

The Member ID should still show the Returning Volunteer checkmark instead of an Interest List one.
I think it's CC'20 Returning Volunteer Reg??
See image from twitter, below.Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
yup, exactly that, thanks!
FWIW You're now considered an unregistered returning volunteer!
Just a reminder, the Volunteer List is now open. Just go to the Volunteer Tab in your account on comic-con.org to sign up.
I couldn't find the information here but does anyone have any info on how pre-show volunteering works? I usually arrive early on Preview Night and have nothing better to do so I would love to do some volunteering on that day to at least get me back into the returning pool for the following year. Also are there any perks to volunteering on that Wednesday?

I'm a little confused. Which volunteer registration is this. I'm a returning voluteer.
This is my first year signing up for the volunteer interest list and the "daily volunteer registration" opens tomorrow. What exactly should I expect? Am I just putting my name into another pool to hopefully get to volunteer this year? The email wasn't very descriptive. HahaHere's a post from last year https://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/index.php?topic=9851.msg256486.msg#256486 about what type of info you will be providing tomorrow. The Daily Volunteer Registration tomorrow will also ask (via a check box) if you want to be on a list for a volunteer shift on the days before the convention, what is termed a pre-con assignment. I don't have any experience doing a pre-con shift, though I've checked that option during the online registration.

I just saw an email from CCI regarding @Home Volunteer Challenge. It's urging us to volunteer for a non profit during the week Comic Con would have occurred. I don't know how I missed it.
Did anybody else get an email?

It also mentioned something about still having the blood drive in San Diego, but place and time for the drive are still TBD.

COMIC-CON INTERNATIONAL SuperVolunteer Series Volume 1
In early June, we issued a challenge to our daily and department volunteers registered for Comic-Con 2020 to find a non-profit in their community and spend some time volunteering there. We are happy to report that many of our volunteers accepted the challenge! They were asked to email us a photo or two and a little bit about the experience to earn a "SuperVolunteer" badge. Starting today, we'll be highlighting some of them in a series every Tuesday and Thursday leading up to Comic-Con@Home. We are so proud of their efforts and know that Comic-Con volunteers are truly dedicated to making the world a better place.
COMIC-CON INTERNATIONAL SuperVolunteer Series Volume 2
Welcome to the second installment of our SuperVolunteer series! If you missed our SuperVolunteer debut, you can check it out here. Fostering animals is of great benefit to the animal shelters that are over-crowded, to the animals themselves and to the people that become their forever families.
Was browsing the comic con merch store and found a "my volunteer jobs" section under account. Maybe implementing signing up for assignments online so you don't have to wait in line for next day assignments next year?

I have mixed feelings. On one hand I would love to not have to go to Marriott every day to sign up but at the same time it would feel like another ticket sale and I don't want that.
I can't get to this link.

Since it lists your assignment and even the team lead, there will be a rush for the good assignments like Hall H. It will turn into another mad online rush.
They could just make it so you can only pick your preferred time slot instead of allowing to pick your assignment. Listing the assignment and lead could just be for reference to where and who to check in with.
They would also have to not allow for cancellations and reassignment or people will just keep spinning the volunteer roulette wheel until they get the assignment they want.
I don't think doing away with the central checkin staging area would be a good idea. Many volunteers don't know where a lot of places are. I've met some that don't know where Hall H is. I don't see how many people would find that one place out on the sidewalk that a volunteer coordinator is for line management.
I think not having a central staging area would lead to mass confusion. In the existing system there is no need for a volunteer to know who the lead is. The lead can change in an instant. If a volunteer is tasked with looking for one person in particular, that's going to be a problem. It's even hard to tell what your assignment is in the current system. That brief description on the card is obscure many times. What your job is when you get Line Management can be so many different things. I've gotten assignments where I couldn't even begin to figure out what it is from what it says on the card. With central staging I don't need to know. I'm just told what sign to stand under after I check in.
