« on: June 30, 2017, 12:11:18 PM »
Use this thread to discuss any hidden gems you find on the Sunday, July 23rd schedule!

Here are some of mine:

10:00am —  11:00am
Spotlight on Paul Dini
Room 7AB
Comic-Con special guest Paul Dini (Batman: The Animated Series, Dark Night: A True Batman Story) is joined by his good friend David Mandel (writer/executive producer, Veep, Seinfeld ; co-author, Star Wars Art: Ralph McQuarrie) for a lively discussion on the many facets of Paul's career, ranging from comics to Star Wars to Harley Quinn and maybe even to their short time working together on the Clerks animated series. Bring your questions about cartoons, comedy or whatever-these guys will rattle on about pretty much anything.

10:00am —  11:00am
Steven Universe: Art & Origins
Room 29AB
Join Steven Universe creator Rebecca Sugar for her first San Diego Comic-Con intimate conversation as she discusses the making of the official behind-the-scenes art book, Steven Universe: Art & Origins, for the Emmy Award-nominated TV series. Accompanied by Ian Jones-Quartey and the book's author, Chris McDonnell, she will lead a conversation covering a wide range of topics, including influences; the process in developing the characters, design, and music for Steven Universe ; and art from the new book, plus a fan Q&A.

10:00am —  11:15am
The Annual Jack Kirby Tribute Panel
Room 5AB
Continuing the celebration of the Kirby Centennial, this is the annual panel about Comic-Con's first superstar guest, the man they call "The King of Comics," Jack Kirby. Jack left us in 1994, but his influence on comics, film, and this convention has never been greater. Discussing the man and his work this year are Jim Chadwick (editor at DC Comics), Paul Levitz (former president at DC Comics), Mike Royer (Kirby's favorite inker), attorney Paul S. Levine, and several highly surprising surprise guests. Naturally, it's moderated by former Kirby assistant Mark Evanier.

10:00am —  11:00pm
Food Network's Chef Duff Goldman Returns
Grand 1 & 2, Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina
Food Network's Chef Duff Goldman (Ace of Cakes, From Duff Till Dawn, Cake Masters) returns to SDCC with a special surprise to talk about the explosion in popularity of nerd-themed cakes and weddings, how Instagram changed the way we view food, and what's in store for him as he continues to take over the culinary world one cake at a time. The celebrity chef will discuss with Jessica Tseang (founder Girl on Geek, Fangirl Foods) about how comics and superheroes made their way into his food presentation and the love of baking.

11:00am —  12:00pm
Comics, Beyond the Wall
Room 29AB
Eisner Award winners/Brazilian wonder twins Gabriel Bá (Daytripper, Two Brothers) and Fábio Moon (Daytripper, How to Talk to Girls at Parties) talk about the things readers can learn with a wide variety of foreign comics and how everything can be mixed together to end up with something unique and outstanding. They invite you to a session that will bring down the walls that kept you from discovering new and awesome stories.

11:00am —  12:00pm
Spotlight on Bruce Timm
Room 7AB
Emmy Award-winning animator/producer/director (and Comic-Con 2017 special guest) Bruce Timm talks about his career in animation, including the 25th anniversary of the ground-breaking Batman: The Animated Series, his latest project, Batman and Harley Quinn (which had its world premiere at Comic-Con on Friday night), and his comics work. Questions and answer session, too!

11:15am —  12:15pm
Science Fiction, Science Future
Room 6DE
SpaceX is developing a reusable passenger rocket, and self-driving cars will soon be in everyone's garage. Science fiction has become science reality. Where are we heading next? Join the Fleet Science Center as they bring together Andy Weir (author of The Martian), Mike Johnson (writer, Star Trek comics), and other science fiction writers to discuss with local scientists and engineers what the future will hold.

11:30am —  12:45pm
Cartoon Voices II
Room 6A
With the smash-hit success of yesterday's Cartoon Voices I panel, there's no choice but to do another one-with different but equally talented actors from the world of animation voicing. Once again, moderator Mark Evanier has assembled an all-star dais that will include Neil Kaplan (Transformers, Voltron), Nickie Bryar (Family Guy, American Dad!), Bob Joles (Puss in Boots, SpongeBob SquarePants), Debra Wilson (MADtv, Family Guy), Chuck McCann (Fantastic Four, DuckTales), and probably someone else.

12:30pm —  1:30pm
Women of Marvel
Room 6DE
From Ms. Marvel to the A-Force, from Twitter to tumblr, the subject of women in comics has been one of the most talked-about in comics recently. Join the conversation as women from multiple disciplines in the creative process at Marvel discuss what it's like working as a woman in comics today and what it means for the future of the industry. Panelists include content development director Sana Amanat, producer Judy Stephens, and more special guests to be announced.

1:30pm —  2:30pm
Stephen King's Mr. Mercedes
Room 8
Jack Bender (EP/director, Lost, Under the Dome), Harry Treadaway (Penny Dreadful), Kelly Lynch (The L Word), Holland Taylor (Two and a Half Men, The Practice), and Breeda Wool (UnREAL) discuss their new original series on AT&T Audience Network based on the bestselling Stephen King novel, which follows a demented killer who taunts a retired police detective and the crusade to bring the killer to justice before he is able to strike again.

Cover Story: the Art of the Cover. 4or5 artists talk about several covers they have done. The good, bad and the ugly. I go every year here and at Wonder-con.Mark Evanier is the host. My only complaint is he has too many artists and they get rushed at the end.

11:00am - 12:00pm
Comics, Beyond the Wall
Room 29AB

Eisner Award winners/Brazilian wonder twins Gabriel Bá (Daytripper, Two Brothers) and Fábio Moon (Daytripper, How to Talk to Girls at Parties) talk about the things readers can learn with a wide variety of foreign comics and how everything can be mixed together to end up with something unique and outstanding. They invite you to a session that will bring down the walls that kept you from discovering new and awesome stories.

11:30am - 12:30pm
A Conversation About Inclusivity and Diversity in Comics and the Comics Market
Room 8

Hear a diverse mix of creators and booksellers discuss diverse characters in comics, finding and audience for them, and the impact that the push for inclusiveness has had on the comics both creatively and financially.

12:00pm - 1:00pm
DIY Reboot: The Restorative Power of Fanfic
Grand 1 & 2, Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina

In a discussion moderated by Jen Stout (fanfic editor, beta reader), panelists Kaylie Allen (multifandom writer), Shannon Conover (fandom blogger), and Phoenix Mendoza (fan artist, writer) explore fanfic's roots in zine and queer culture, variations across decades and fandoms, sexism concerning how fan works are perceived by the general public, and fanfic's healing, restorative qualities for readers, writers, and fans.

4:00pm - 5:00pm
Full-Time Creative Work on a Part-Time Schedule
Room 24ABC

Having a quality finished project may be the most important ingredient to its success, but it's not the only vital ingredient. Avoiding issues when creating your project and then knowing how to get it to your target audience are vital-and rarely ever discussed. These panelists will tackle group management and working dynamics, networking, time management, exposure, and pitfalls. They include Topher Davila (art director, GeekdomWear.com), Sean Glumace (Adobe Education Leader), James Frye (managing editor, TheConGuy.com), Gene Turnbow (general manager, KryptonRadio.com), Javier Soto (senior dimensional artist at Garner Holt Productions, freelance artist for Disney Theme Parks), Ron Coleman, Ph.D. (molecular geneticist and comic book writer), and Mario Martinez (co-creator, TomatoTV). Every person who attends will get two postcards of some of the collected tips, wisdom, and potential pitfalls discussed. Also, one lucky attendee will win a 12-month subscription to the Adobe Creative Cloud, a $599 value courtesy of Adobe Education Leader Sean Glumace.

Top 3, in order:
1. DIY Reboot: The Restorative Power of Fanfic
2. A Conversation About Inclusivity and Diversity in Comics and the Comics Market
3. Full-Time Creative Work on a Part-Time Schedule (though this panel needs women tbh)
